Chapter 2 The Lombranc Forest

It was the early morning as Langlas's group proceeded inside. The high trees blocked most of the light making the forest as dark even if they went in at night. Langlas was holding a torch in one hand and in the other a candle holder with some smoke emitting from it. He didn't like the idea of using pipe weed this way, but the sweet smell from it kept most Pokemon away. Although not many were even awake at the time, Langlas only saw a few weak bug Pokemon waking up and seeing also the Owl Pokemon going to sleep in their nests. He felt at home in the forest, it reminded me of the Old Forest. Not many people enjoy the forest but he always found the maze to be enjoyable. To be in a place of peace, walk around and end up knee deep in spiders or end up at the Willow man's tree. It always seemed like a good place to sleep but his frequent visits to Tom has taught him otherwise. As a ranger "I should always be aware of the dangers around me and always keep a look-out for creatures in the forest".

His team followed behind, Poochy and Dourin walking quickly behind the Ranger's legs and Crebain scouting ahead for any hidden dangers. His team was loyal to him but he found it strange that they never tried to evolve. He didn't push the subject, figured if they wanted to change they could do it when they were ready. "Alright guys, lets huddle up." Crebain came back to his master and perching on his shoulder while Poochy and Dourin sat at his feet. "We've entered here to look for an ancient gateway so I could go home. Apparently according to those who've survived this forest it should take about 3 days before we reach this 'Ancient evil' that protects the gateway. I don't know what will be up ahead so I want to make sure your all with me on this." Dourin stood with determination in his eyes, Poochy stayed sitting but after a minute stood up and gave a commendable 'BARK!'. Crebain flew in front of Langlas and cawed into his face with prepared expression. "Alright guys, no turning back lets go kick evil's ass," A rumbled cheer came from the Pokemon and ran/flew deeper into the forest.
(Unknown POV)

"So another human has entered my domain, but this one not like the others. They came in here with fear in their eyes and their hearts but this man. He shows neither but we'll see if he survives the first night." Two cloaked figures hiding a top the trees, spring from tree to tree, traversing the sea of trees beneath them. "Master if they reach the border we should be able to defeat them like the others right?" the smaller of the figures turned to the other. "I sense something greater in them. We shall let them see the gate then we'll strike." "Yes master!"

(Back to Langlas!)

They charged ahead but soon tiring due to the heat radiating from the forest. Langlas searched for a spring and settled down beside a small pond. 'This forest is beautiful' Langlas though, 'It reminds me of home. How these humans haven't ruined this forest must be because of those evils that are guarding this place. Nothing says fear like dark, shadowy creatures attacking from nowhere.' He took out of few pieces of bread for himself and pokefood for the others. His team started eating while he looked at the water. Langlas, from the corner of his eye could see something hiding a few feet away but had yet to move in. In a whisper, "Guys were being watched; stay here while I go check it out." Dourin was the only one who nodded at his statement and looked around for the shadow. Langlas slowly got up and proceeded into the forest but looping around to see what was watching them. As he got closer to where the shadow was he could hear a faint noise. He pried behind a bush to see a Drowzee watching the group, waving his hands at them in a charmed fashion. 'He trying to use hypnotism on them, but if I remember Psychic attacks don't work on dark types. He looks pretty tired too... perhaps I can catch while he's tried out.' He pulled on of the empty pokeballs from his pocket and readied himself to strike. Drowzee, still unknown to Langlas, had made another attempt and another failure. He sat down to rest when he heard something behind. He turned and all he saw was a red blur coming at him before it struck him and captured him inside. He tried to get out but being so tried he'd just decided to let it happen. Langlas walked up, picked up the pokeball and went back to his group. "We've got a new comrade!" he proclaimed as he got back to the others, pokeball in hand. Poochy and Crebain were already done there food and looked eager at the new friend, Dourin simply went back to his food when he got back. "Come on out." He said as he released the Drowzee from the ball. He looked at the group then at the human behind him; he bowed to the group and started speaking to them. Langlas didn't have a clue what he was saying but it looked to be an apology. Crebain patted the Drowzee's head while Poochy howled about the new friend that was joining them. Dourin simply went to Langlas and stared at him, showing a look of worry in his eyes. Langlas saw it and crouched down to pet Dourin's head, "Don't worry boy, he should get along with us just fine but if he does try anything, you'll be ready right?" He barked with a smile on his face and rejoined the others who were talking to Drowzee. "I guess I'll have to give you a name..." he walked back and forth while everyone else was either watching their leader or talking. 'He looks like a relaxed kind of guy but still has powerful moves he can use. He's kind of like Bryult, he's a strong wizard but anytime I see him he's usually high on his own drugs. Bryult Jr. Ha-ha no, no Bryult should be just fine.' "Drowzee!" he called, the Drowzee wondering up to the human, "From now on you shall be known as Bryult." He looked up at him, bowed and cheered with the others. Langlas looked at the forest, 'We've wasted enough time'. "Alright team lets move out, I'm sure you guys can fill Bryult in on what were doing ok?" Langlas packed up while Crebain flew ahead and Poochy and Dourin spoke to Bryult about what they were doing. He nodded and wondered ahead yelling at the group and swinging his hand. "Alright let's follow him, Crebain! Cover out rear!" Crebain turned around and followed behind Langlas as the team went into the darkness.

(Unknown POV AGAIN!)

"A resident of the forest showing them the way, how foolish, he'll lead them into our trap." The taller cloaked figure was standing in the midst of old stones and what looked to be an old fort. The smaller of the two came out of the ruins, "The pokemon inside have been warned they'll do their best to stay out of our way and theirs." "Good," the other turned, "They'll be here soon, make sure everything is prepared for their arrival." "Of course master," he bowed and hurried back inside. "It will open soon, but we must stop them here because if we unleashed the evil in this fort, we'll lose more than out lives. We'll most likely lose everyone." The other turned and proceeded with the fort.

(Langlas!)

Langlas's team were running through the night or at least what seemed like night, the trees in the forest blocked most of the light out, having to rely on the torches he had. Within the darkness, Langlas couldn't help but wonder but this ancient evil, 'Is it like the Devil or is it what our mind makes it out to be? If this creature is strong shouldn't it have escaped by now? It must be connected to something here; perhaps the gate was the answer. He then noticed how most of his team was slowing down, after all this running they were tired and if it was night, as Langlas though, they might as well rest for today. "Hold up guys!" most of the team stopped except Crebain who flew onto Langlas's shoulder to rest. "Let's make camp for tonight, maybe tomorrow we can continue. We've still got 2 or more days to get there." Poochy and Dourin slumped to the ground and breathing in deep after all that running, Bryult was helping Langlas with the set-up of camp thanks to actually having finger to assist with, and Crebain perched itself on a tree above and surveyed the area. About 10 minutes later, a fire was made and Langlas was making stew from the herbs/berries he collected along with some other ingredients he had in his pack. His team ate what they could and finished off each other's meals to make sure none was wasted. Soon they settled in for the night, Langlas being the last awake. He looked at the trees leaves around him but heard something from within the forest. Sitting up, at first all he heard was a low gust of wind but then words were carried by the wind. "I'm waiting for you, Ranger. Get here soon before bodies start lying around you." A small cackle broke through the wind making the hairs on the back of his hand stand up. Startled by this he covered himself up in his bedroll, and curled up to sleep with fear setting itself in his mind. 'This evil knows who I am!'
