Chapter 1

Squirtle opened it's mouth as wide as it could and loosed a torrent of icy cold water onto the offending Charmander. It shied back with a hint of fear glinting coldly in its eyes; it had only come to the clearing to look for some berries and now it was being accosted for no reason. "That's right Squirtle, show it no mercy", Misty shouted. The Squirtle looked up at its trainer, nodded, and turned once again on the Charmander with renewed fury. Squirtle opened its mouth again and released another shower of water on the poor Charmander. The poor Charmander, too weak, to fight fell to the ground. "Alright Squirtle", Misty said,"I told you battles were good for you." "I'll admit I have slimmed down", the Squirtle replied,"and my water-gun was never that powerful before." "I just wish things had turned out as well for Charmander and Bagon as they did for me." "Ahh don't worry Squirtle, a visit from Nurse Joy and they'll be good as new", Misty said. Squirtle pondered this for a second and then nodded. "I'm sure you're right." "Have I ever been right?", Misty asked with exaggerated sarcasm. The Squirtle just laughed and fell into step behind her.

"Take him", the man shouted and shoved the injured Quilava across the desk to Nurse Joy,"He's a worthless weakling!" "Sir I can't allow you to leave a Pokemon like this", Nurse Joy said calmly,"It's against the law and it would be breaking my own moral code." The man got down into Nurse Joy's face and said,"I don't care about your goddamn moral code; that goddamn Pokemon is weak and I won't train a weak Pokemon." He looked down and spat on the broken and beaten animal that lay on the cool glass of the reception desk, before he stalked out the door. One look at the Quilava was more than enough to confirm Nurse Joy's suspicions. One of it's legs was bent at very unnatural angle and it's abdomen was covered in deep gashes. If this was the man's idea of a weak Pokemon she didn't to know what he considered strong. The poor thing looked like it had just gone through 10 rounds with a corn thresher or a very angry Rhyhorn. The Quilava looked up at her and cringed when she put her hands underneath it. "Don't worry, I'm just going to take you back into my examination room where I can patch you up and make you feel better", she told it in a soothing tone of voice. This was definitely going to be difficult.

Misty reached out to open the door, but before she could even grasp the handle a man burst through smashing the door in her face. "Hey watch where your going", she shouted. The man turned and looked at her with an expression so filled with rage and hatred that she didn't dare say anything else. Misty stepped inside and walked up to the reception desk. "Nurse Joy, could you patch up my pokies for me", she asked. Nurse Joy nodded and took her Pokeballs. "Misty.. would you mind taking care of an injured Pokemon for me", she asked. "I would love to but I've already got enough trouble on my hands with Squirtle, Charmander, and Bagon",Misty said. Nurse Joy sighed and picked up the Pokeballs. "Well... alright", Misty said with an air of defeat. "Thank you Misty, the poor thing is hurt badly and it really needs a loving trainer." "Come with me" Nurse Joy took Misty by the hand and lead her back into one of the ICU rooms. She opened the door slowly and whispered,"Be careful, he's a little shy." The first thing Misty noticed as she stepped inside the room was the strong smell of blood of disinfectant hanging in the air. A young Quilava lay on the hospital bed, wrapped in bandages and hooked up to in EKG monitor. "A man came in earlier shouting about his weakling Pokemon, and he left this poor little guy with me before storming out.",Nurse Joy said. The small form, buried in the sheets, lifted it's head and looked at Misty. "Quil quill", it murmered weakly. At the sound of those weak declarations Misty's heart was grasped by a pity and love so very profound that she just wanted to lift the little Quilava up and hug it. "I.. I'd love to take care of him", she said her voice choked with emotion. "Thank you Misty; I know you'll take good care of him." Nurse Joy disapeared into the front of the building, and when she returned she was carrying a small stack of papers. "I'll just need you to fill these out and of course he should stay here until his wounds have healed a little." Misty just nodded.

The next week flew by for the young Quilava. Periodically a woman with red hair and a clean white coat would come in to check on him. He rather liked her company, except when she would prick him with needles or give him liquid that made him sleepy. Sometimes another girl with red hair would visit him and she never had anything painful with her. She would sit and talk to him about her Pokemon and how much he would enjoy living with her. At first she had frightened him, he worried that she might hurt him like his last trainer had, but he quickly realized that she was not threatening in the least. In fact he even grew to like her. Finally the day came for her to take him and home and he was not the least bit surprised to find that he was elated. She was so kind and caring and her body so sleek and well built. He shook his head vigorously as if he could shake the dirty thoughts out of his mind. She was a human and he was a Pokemon, but he still felt an undeniable attraction for her. After considering it for a little while he decided that these feelings most likely stemmed from gratitude and that they were nothing to worry about. The door to his room opened and the one they called Misty stepped in. "Alright Quill, you're coming home with me", she said cheerfully. Quilava stood up, clambered down off the bed, being mindful of his injured leg which still hurt when he put too much weight on it, and walked over to her. "Come on buddy", she said",let's get you out of here and back into the fresh air." Together they walked out of the room and then out of the Pokemon Center.
Misty opened the door and ushered Quill in. He took a deep breath reveling in the scents that permeated the air in her home. Other Pokemon, fresh meat, spices, and the unmistakable scent of the wilderness. "Squirtle, Charmander, Bagon",Misty called,"there's someone I want you to meet." A trio of Pokemon, consisting of a Charmander, a Squirtle, and a Bagon, walked into the living room. "Who is i...", The Charmander began, but stopped short when he caught sight of the Quilava standing before him. "Why did you bring another Pokemon home", he asked,"is this some sort of joke?" Quill could tell he was not welcome and started to back away towards the door. "Where are you going Quill",Misty asked. She smiled. "You're not afraid of them are you?" Quill continued to back towards the door, the blood rushing to his face. Rarely was he so glad to have a thick cover of fur. "Come on, they'll get used to you eventually." "You're not bringing another Pokemon in are you Misty", the Squirtle asked. "Yeah, remember what happened when you let the Lucario in", the Bagon asked. Stop it you three", Misty scolded them,"this poor little guy was hurt and had no where else to turn. What else was I supposed to do?" "But Misty", they said in unison. "No buts, he's staying here and that's final." She scooped Quill up and held him close to her chest. Much to his horror Quill quickly noticed that this affection she was giving him was give him a rather massive erection. He curled himself into an even tighter ball and hoped that she wouldn't notice. Misty buried her her face in his fur and mumbled sweet nothings. Finally she released her hold on him and set him down. Quill, his face burning, raced off to hide under Misty's bed feeling as though he would rather fall down into the deepest pit on earth than be there any longer. Unfortunately he couldn't help but notice that Charmander's eyes followed him intently as he vanished from the room.
