Another way/Changing paths

Chapter 6: Too much work.

(Brian's POV)

I awaken to see the sun shining down on my face brightly. I quickly reached for a pillow that was underneath my head and used it to cover my face. The first thing that came to my mind was what will I do with Brandon today, what kind of training will I put him through.

That's when the thought of that girl Kelly came to mind. With her being around probably will slow us down; not only that, I know we can't just show up with her when father arrives. He sure to be furious to see someone like her with us, most likely she nothing but a groupie that Brandon can have sex with whenever he wants.

I'm going to find out what's her deal is even if it kills me, she will not interrupt what Brandon and I have going. Though speaking of which I need to go get him up and we need to head out as soon as possible.

Sluggishly I rose from out of my bed letting the covers and sheets fall from off of me. I threw my legs over to the side of my bed and let feet touch the floor. The carpet that was on my floor felt cool and then warm after a while of being there.

Standing to my feet I took a long nice stretch, and once I came down from I turned my gaze over to the door. From looking at that I began thinking about Diamond and Osha and what they did yesterday. I wonder if I should keep their punishment going or forgive and forget.

"Whatever, I'll think of something later." I said in a whisper to myself as I slowly made my way over to the door of my room.

Opening the door to my room I stepped out into the hallway. Checking back and forward to make sure no one was there I breathe a calm sigh of relief. Taking a step into the dark hall a very cold breeze flew by it brought my attention that I wasn't wearing any pants.

Armed only with my boxers I knew that I was far too lazy to go back and put some pants on. My first objective was to make it to the rest room that was on the other end of the hall. Pulling up both of my hands I simultaneously slapped both sides of my cheeks to fully awaken myself.

Stealthily making my way down the hall I found myself fast approaching the bathroom door. Once I was in front of it I stopped and looked backwards down the hall again to make sure no one had saw me.

Two minutes passed before I opened the door back into the hallway. Breathing a great sigh of relief I suddenly gasped at the cold breeze again that flew right pass me. I quickly made my way back into my room and shut the door.

Once I was in my room I lazily made my way over to my bed, and sat down. My eyes were half closed when I looked around my room as if doing some final inspection. I notice the black bag that I had packed from yesterday for our trip today. It was filled with clothes for myself and lots of items and berries for my Pokémon though at this time for the injuries that they inflicted on each other I will not waste them on.

Now that the both of them were in my mind again the thought on how I could punish them further came into mind. 'I can use them to help train Brandon's Pokémon; I know Diamond will absolutely hate that, but meh what she's going to do about it.' I thought to myself completely satisfied with the idea.

"Hmm...what to wear today?" I said to myself in a pondering state.

Another twenty minutes pass before I was done getting dressed. Again nothing flashy just a white tee, black jeans, and some black shoes. I made my way out of my room now sporting my black bag as well. I also had a belt that contained both Diamond and Osha's Pokéballs'.

Once again making my way down the hall I notice that Brandon door was open. I was pretty sure that he was still asleep so I didn't pay any mind to it. Plus since that girl was in there as well I know he's going to be extra tired.

Looking at myself in the mirror for the last time the thought of all we had to do before we meet father came into my mind. Shaking the thought from my head I turned back to face the door that led into the main hall. Just as I was about to grip it I felt the ground shake followed by a very loud explosion.

I immediately burst through the doors though I wasn't really sure what was going on. The thought of someone being in trouble soon filled my head as well, but hoping that wasn't the case. As I soon ran into the center of the main hall I quickly looked around and saw that nothing was going on in here.

"Outside." I said to myself aloud.

Running as fast as I could to the front door I instinctively reached into my back pocket with my left hand pulling out Osha ball just in case. Upon reaching the door I took a deep breath to calm myself, but not too much to slow my heart down. I need to remain on edge if things get messy.

Quickly I shove the door open to gain the attention of anyone who was out there. Once the door was fully opened I was able to get a clear look at who was causing this noise.

There stood Brandon and his Quilava Ruption in front of the house there was a huge burn mark on the hard cement ground. Ruption was standing in front of Brandon with all the flames on its body burning very high. I knew that it only did that when it was trying to intimidate its opponent with its display of strength. Though my question was; who was it fighting?

The question alongside with my curiosity was more than enough to make me want to go and check it out. Making my way into the front yard and making sure not to draw any unwanted attention to myself, just in case Brandon's opponent is playing for keeps I would have the drop on them.

Though it should have all been in vain simply because our mansion was on a flat surface of land in the near outer ring of the city. Plus with the clothes that I wore I know that should stick out like a shining Lucario tapping into its aura abilities.

I just used the fire that Ruption was emitting to use as a cover. Easing my way around the back of Brandon just enough as to where he didn't feel me behind him. Standing on my tip-toes I looked from a distance over his left shoulder, to my surprise to see a Cinccino.

'Who did it belong to though?' I thought to myself as brought my feet back to the ground evenly. I didn't know anyone around here that owned one and there damn sure wouldn't be a wild one running around here. 'Me sitting here wandering isn't getting me any answers.' I thought to myself again as I shook my head.

Walking to the left of Brandon I could hear him yell something about Flamethrower, but I wasn't sure though. As I continued making my way around him I saw his Quilava take a deep breath and spew forth a mighty flame. The large flame travel down the path that led to the mansion not to my surprise to see the Cinccino quickly moves out of the way. If I wasn't mistaken they were built for speed and quick attacks. A slow flame like that one would be easy to avoid.

"Cinnamon get close and use Tail slap!" I heard feminine voice yelled out.

Once I heard that voice I instantly recognized it as Kelly's voice, but it sounded more commanding and very experienced.

Standing on the outer edge of the make-shifted battle field I could get a clear view of what was going on. Things were not as going well for Brandon as usual, but he was rather calm. Even after watching his Pokémon received a savage beating from Kelly Cinccino.

Ruption flames kept burning hot he must have a lot of energy left because his flames kept rising higher and higher. Ruption almost looked like a rocket ship on takeoff the flames around him were burning hot, so hot the air around it was becoming very thin.

The Cinccino jumped backwards after the attack. I assume that the flames must be very intense so intense that it couldn't take the heat.

"Cinnamon Rock Blast and keep your distance." Kelly yelled barking a command again.

The longer the battle went on the more I figured that I severely underestimated her. Something that I shouldn't take lightly just in case she wants to battle me; I would have to take her seriously.

Brandon just sat there and remains silent and didn't say word. The medium size rocks made its way toward Ruption quickly. Ruption didn't move a muscle just the flames on its head and lower back grew to an unbelievable height.

All five of the rocks found there mark as they all made a small explosion as they collided. It was hard to see what became of the fire Pokémon because the entire area was coated with smoke. Knowing after taking such a brutal beating like that it should have feinted by now.

What came next near made my jaw drop from my face.

As the smoke start to clear stand a larger figure silhouette materialize. Though it was slightly bent over I could already tell that it evolved. A huge fire shot up into the air and a small shockwave blew through the immediate area around it. Ruption was yowling in pure ecstasies as he stood on his hind legs.

Brandon had a small smile on his face when he saw his new Pokémon. Lifting his right arm in front of him he commanded, "Ruption use Flame wheel." He said calmly.

Ruption clenched both of his fists together and bang them as hard as he could again one another. This cause a huge flame to engulf him though this one was much larger than it was when he was a Quilava.

At this point the battle was already decided.

Ruption charged towards small Pokémon at full speed, I guess he must be planning on taking it out in one attack.

Kelly just stood there and shook her head disappoint. Her Cinccino just sat there, but then lowered itself into a ready stance.

I instantly knew what she going to do, but I wonder if Brian knew.

The Cinccino jumped up as soon as Ruption got close, causing the larger Pokémon to pass right underneath it. While in mid-air Cinccino turned around to see Ruption still going.

"Rock blast." Kelly calmly commanded.

"Shit! Ruption stop!" Brandon yelled, but his words fell on deaf ears.

I was pretty sure with all that flame that's going around it was too loud where the command wasn't going to reach it.

After a moment or so Ruption inevitable collision with the large metal fence that boxed around our mansion had finally come. The flames around its body had gone away it sat on the ground rubbing it's now painfully sore head. Then the Rock blast soon followed with four medium sized rocks.

Just as I predicted the battle was seal at the moment that Ruption evolved. Because Ruption is just like its master very prideful and headstrong this causes it to be reckless at times.

Another explosion went off as the rocks again hit their mark.

Though that didn't end the battle because Ruption burst from the smoke like a zubat out of hell charging straight at the Cinccino; This fit of rage that Ruption had in his eyes caught everyone by surprise. It was as If though every kind of logical thought that may have once been in its brain was clearly gone now.

I could mainly say this because Brandon yelled out his name several times and there was no response. The Typhlosion was moving faster than it normally would and there was a strange red glow emitting from around its body.

Ruption reached out for the Cinccino with its left hand, but it nimbly dodged to the right. Ruption turned its head in the direction that the Cinccino was dodging in and use one of the most powerful flamethrowers that I've ever seen in my life.

The poor Cinccino was completely engulf in flames. No doubt knocking it smooth the hell out. Ruption continued blowing flames and when he showed no signs of stopping. The way the flames were pouring out of his mouth it was only a matter of time before the Cinccino natural defenses would give out.

"Brandon call him back he's lost it!" I yelled taking a step forward.

Brandon stood there in disbelief at what was going on.

"Cinnamon!" I could hear Kelly yell out.

I pulled out Diamond's Pokéball and threw it into the air and the burst of energy came instantaneously raining out of the round object.

"Diamond, Ice Beam let's go!" I yelled commanding her.

She complied without a second thought and instantly sent a bright blue beam into direction of the rampaging Pokémon. It collided with its back, but was almost in an instant was turned into water do to the rising fire on the back of its neck.

Once the water landed on its back it stopped its attack on the now burned Pokémon. Most of the Cinccino was black from flames that it endured. It was completely unconscious Kelly immediately dug into her back pocket pulling out its ball and recalling it back into its ball.

"Brandon you need to call him back into its ball!" I yelled again.

Ruption turned into the direction that Diamond and I were in.

Cursing underneath my breath because I wasn't sure if Brandon had heard me or not. Plus I didn't want to fight Ruption in the condition he was in. But what happened next was completely unexpected and caught me off guard.

Diamond stepped forward and spoke to Ruption in Pokémon language. Her voice was soft even though she only said her name. Not only because the fact that she said something, but the fact that Ruption instantly calmed down. The red glow had disappeared and he fell forward completely unconscious.

I ran towards Brandon at full speed with my right fist tucked away. Once I got in range my fist shot out like a piston and hit him square in the right side of the face. It was with enough force to take him off his feet.

He just laid there not saying a word. I made my way over to where he was; once I was above him I reached down and grabbed his Pokéball that belonged to his now downed Pokémon. Recalling it back into its ball I looked back towards Kelly who was just standing there horrified.

"Hey why you are still here get your ass to a Pokémon Center now!" I yelled towards her. Not to be mean but her Pokémon could be seriously hurt.

She nodded to me and took off running towards the center that was just down the street.

Looking at Brandon not in disgust but in confusion I ask him, "Why did you hesitate like that?"

"I don't know so much happened at one time I didn't know how to react..." He said disappoint.

"That something we are really going to have to work on. Though I can't really blame you I meant Ruption evolved right in the middle of battle not only that, he went into some sort of trance." I said holding my right hand out towards him.

He reached up for it and took a firm grasp upon it.

Pulling up with most of my might I was able to bring him to his feet. He stood up and looked at me with a dull expression and ask, "Is Kelly alright?"

"She's fine, though can't say the same about her Pokémon, hell you saw it." I said now turning my attention away from him and back towards Diamond.

Now that I'm thinking about it she shouldn't have been my first choice when dealing with a situation like that. I should have chosen Osha instead that was a careless mistake on my part. Then that reminded me of what Diamond had done to calm him.

I never heard Diamond say a word only growl when she's angry I've haven't so much as even heard her yell when she was in pain or anything. But this time she actually said something to the inflamed Typhlosion to calm him down.

Right now that was a mystery I would have to investigate later.

"Brian...what do you think happened to him?" Brandon asks.

"Not sure, but that was pretty cool. All Ruption have to do is manage to get all that power under control and he'd but a force to reckon with." I said honestly.

"Yeah now that I think about it was, but I think we need to get him to the center." He said taking Ruption's ball from my hand. "I hope Kelly's Pokémon is alright. It was supposed to be in all good fun before we left."

"I'm sure everything will be alright. Do you have everything you need packed?" I asked.

"Yeah I'm ready." He replied calmly.

"Ok then let's go."

Fortunately we lived just down the street from where the Pokémon Center was this also made the location for where we use to live prime.

Ten minutes passed of silent walking before we arrived at the center. The place was almost completely empty. There were few trainers sitting off to the side of the room, but no sign of Kelly.

There was a nurse Joy sitting behind the counter waiting for us to approach her. She was smiling the entire time which was sort of creepy.

Shrugging the thought from my head Brandon rushed right pass me and towards the counter of the Nurse Joy.

"Nurse Joy there's something wrong with my Typhlosion!" He said fast in a worried tone.

"Whoa! Slow down young man and tell me what happened." She snapped back.

After two minutes of an explanation she nodded to him and took the Pokéball from his hand that he held out. She spun around expertly on her heels to face the healing machine that was right behind her. I assume that it must have come years of practice.

Brandon turned around to face me, he no longer sported the disappointed look on his face. He walked towards me and stop about a yard in front of me. "Brian you seen Kelly?"

"Nah I was looking around for her when we first came in, but didn't see her. Her Cinccino was in pretty bad shape it's probably in the ER and I bet that's where we'll find her."

"Ok then let's go find her I guess I better work on the biggest apology in my life." He said somewhat cheering up.

I just nodded to him and followed behind him as he started walking off, in the direction of where the sign pointed around the Center.

Upon arriving in the ER we could see Kelly standing in front of a glass window with a worried look in her eyes. Her hands were holding each other in front of her chest, and her backpack was sitting on a chair that was right next to her.

Brandon suddenly stopped in front of me nervously I could actually see that he was involuntarily shaking. I guess he must have been really nervous on what to say to her, or what her reaction to seeing him might invoke.

But just standing here won't get him anywhere so I playfully shoved him in front of me which cause him to stumble closer to her. He turned to face to me and shrugged at me as if saying 'What the hell was that for?'

I nodded and use my right hand index finger to make a swirl in the air to tell him to turn around.

He did as instruct to face her only to see that she was staring directly at him. She had a concern look on her face. "I though you said you didn't know much to battling?" She asked him coldly.

"Well I don't...that wasn't me...I really don't know what happened..." He said as an answer constantly fumbling over his words.

"'Well' if you look inside the window here it should be self-explanatory." She said again in a coldly manner.

"Kelly I know there probably isn't anything that I could tell you that'll make this up, but say that I'm sorry. All I can tell you is that I really don't know what came over him, and that he's nowhere near like that..." He said still using an apologetic tone.

"Whatever dude..." She said again not letting up on the coldness in her voice.

After listening to the one sided conversation I decided it was time for me to intervene. Casually walking pass Brandon and then pass Kelly to the other side of the window where Kelly stood.

"Hmm...Kelly I can tell by first glance at looking at the way you battle that you're not an ordinary trainer. I can see that you've been through something's seen your share of adventure." I said while looking through the glass at her Cinccino who was now cleaned up from the burn marks and was now just resting.

"Yeah, what's your point?" She said half annoyed.

"Well tell me how many times you have battled a Pokémon that evolved right in the middle of battle?"

"This would be a first, but I don't see you what you're getting at?" She said placing her hands on her hips becoming irritated by repeating herself.

I then turned to face her and said, "Well I know my brother didn't lie when he said he doesn't have that much experience when it comes to battling. The same could be said for his Pokémon as well. You gave his Typhlosion quite the beating, but you were playing with it instead of defeating it."

"You're not making any sense right now..." She said closing her eyes and shook her head.

"Did you know that Typhlosion have a special ability called Blaze?"

"Blaze What's that?" She said opening her eyes raising a brow towards me.

"Basically mean next time you battle him you better go in for the KO or things may not have such a happy ending." I said closing my eyes half way giving her a bit of advice/warning. "So that also begs the question do you still want to come?" I said with a growing smiling on my face hoping she would say no.

"Yeah Kelly if you don't want to come I completely understand." Brandon said with a hint of seriousness in his voice.

Kelly turned back towards the window and smiled.

After a moment or two waiting for her reply; she turned back to Brandon and said, "I'm coming with you two, but only because you two have peeked my interest. It seems like every time I feel that I understand you something happens and you two become a greater mystery."

I looked to Brandon and nodded in approval.

She walked closer to Brandon and gave him a light kiss on the cheek, which seem to have made him brighten up a lot.

"Booooo, get a room you two!" I said intentionally trying to kill their moment. "Anyway your Pokémon shouldn't be too long before it makes a full recovery. So if you two don't mind I would like to get a move on. Need I remind you we're on a deadline here?"

Kelly looked back to me and said, "You two are too much work..."
