Unexpected Hero by The Wandering Pikachu

Story Notes:

My first story. It's supposed to be a story which revolves around the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game. The current chapters aren't exactly my best work, though I believe I am slowly improving them and getting better. My newer stories and chapters after the first ten of this story should hopefully be better.

Transformation

This is my first Pokémon story. There won't be any sex in this right off the bat, but will have some as the story progresses. I chose to base the story on my experience of the game first-hand, but that may change depending on reviews I get. This story is also told in first-person, through the main character's eyes.

I'm not that familiar with writing stories where people talk and then another sentence expressing the scene is written, so I don't know if my punctuation is right, but I think it's good enough for right now. I'll try to get better at it though.

I do not own Pokémon. I do own this story and the characters. So ask before you write a story using one of my characters.

Chapter One: Transformation

"Where am I? Am I dreaming this? I feel a pleasant breeze. ...I hear a voice from somewhere... I wonder who it is?"

...

......

............

"...Excuse me. ...Please, wake up. Come on, wake up."

The voice that was talking to me finally aroused me out of my slumber and I yawned, stretching my limbs out to shake off the sleepiness.

"You're finally awake! Great!" I turned to my side to notice a Treecko, which I read about in my books on Pokémon. Something amazed me though, why was I at eye-level with this Treecko?

"Wh-Where is this...?" I turned around to look at my surroundings and saw that I was not where I expected to be; I was in a forest with trees surrounding the Treecko and me.

"You were passed out here. I'm glad to see you awake! I'm Stephanie. Glad to meet you!" I then noticed that from the voice of the Treecko and its name, that this Treecko was a female. Also, I just now realized that I could understand what this Treecko was saying to me.

"...And, you are? I've never seen you around before." I was really worried by now because somehow, I was at eye-level with a Treecko, in a forest I've never seen before, and could understand what this Treecko was saying to me. Fear ran through me as I deduced that something must've been wrong, yet I still hadn't taken a look at my body to see if something was wrong, convincing myself that this was just a really weird dream.

"I'm a human." I replied nervously. I wasn't in the mood to answer in a calm tone, because I was still worried about what exactly had happened to me. Also, talking to Pokémon was something I was unfamiliar with.

"Huh? You're a human?" Stephanie said with a confused look on her face. "But you look like a normal Pikachu in every way." Now fear really began to run through my body upon hearing those words. I decided to finally look at my body in an attempt to prove I was fine. I looked at my body and noticed my skin color wasn't white, but yellow. My arms and legs had been replaced with two short paws with small fingers and toes. I felt around my head and noticed instead of normal ears, I had two long ones sticking out of the top of my head. I looked at my backside and noticed I had a long bolt-shaped tail for which Pikachu are known for. Above my tail, I saw two brown stripes, which Pikachu are also known for. My eyes widened and my mouth was hanging slightly open from the shock I just received.

"It... It's true... I have turned into a Pikachu! ...But why? I don't remember anything..." Shock, worry, curiosity, and surprised were the feelings I was experiencing at this moment. For the life of me, I wish I knew what had happened to me to make me become a Pikachu, but I drew a blank. If this were a dream, I would've probably woken up by now, for seeing my body like this would've shocked me into awakeness.

"Um... You're kind of weird... Your name? What's your name?" The voice of the Treecko aroused me out of my confusion as I began to think about her question. Had I forgotten my own name as well?

"My name...? That's right, my name is..." I contemplated whether I should reveal my name, if I remembered it, to a stranger, much less a Pokémon. Would I be reported for being an intruder upon their world? Nevertheless, I sighed and thought, "What harm could it do?"

"Daniel." I replied now more calm and collect and noticed my voice was a little deeper than before. I rather liked it, since my old voice was rather kind of low. It was not the kind of change brought on by puberty, but I still liked it.

"Oh. Daniel's your name? Well... It's a funny name!" The Treecko replied laughing out loud now. I figured this one must be a jokester to think my name was funny.

"You said your name's Stephanie?" I asked, and the Treecko nodded. I decided to ask Stephanie to satiate my curiosity of where I was, "Where are we currently?"

"Oh, how rude of me. This is the Tiny Woods, you can see why it's called that, I hope." I looked around and noticed that the woods we were in weren't as big as a normal forest, so I nodded in understanding.

"Somebody! Please! Help me!" A voice I didn't recognize suddenly came from behind me and I wondered whether it was my imagination or not.

"Huh? I hear shouts from over there..." I heard Stephanie say and I realized it wasn't my imagination. I turned around and noticed a Butterfree flying towards us, with a worried look on its face. "What's wrong?" Stephanie asked.

"It's horrible! My Caterpie fell into a cavern! My poor baby!" I figured this must be the mother judging by its worried expression and shouting.

"What?!" Stephanie and me cried out in unison.

"A huge fissure opened in the ground, and my Caterpie fell in! He's too young to crawl out by himself! When I went to get my baby, Pokémon suddenly attacked me!" The Butterfree told us.

"Huh? You were attacked? By other Pokémon?" Stephanie asked with curiosity.

"They must be enraged by the fissure...and out of control! That's what I think. I'm not strong enough to fend off those wild Pokémon... What will become of my baby? Oh! What am I to do?! Oh dear, oh dear..." she must have been really worried at this point because she was frantically looking around for someone who would be able to help her. I turned to my side to see Stephanie with a ready expression written on her face.

"This sounds bad! We have to go help!" I nodded and she and I went further into the woods to find the Caterpie that was lost somewhere inside.

After entering the woods, we started walking looking around for the Caterpie we were searching for. I noticed a coin on the ground and picked it up. Stephanie said, "That's Poke. It's our form of money for buying things we need."

I nodded in understanding, and we continued walking. I kept walking ahead, occasionally hearing something behind me. I turned behind me and noticed a Pidgey sneaked up behind Stephanie. I shouted, "Stephanie! Behind you!" Stephanie spun around, noticed the Pidgey, and attacked it. The Pidgey attacked Stephanie back.

Then, Stephanie shouted "Pound!" as she pounded the Pidgey with her tail, knocking it out. After she gained her breath, she turned to me and said, "Thanks."

"No problem." I replied.

Shortly after that, a Pidgey appeared in front of me while we were walking and attacked me. Then, I started to feel electricity flow through my body, as I got a little angry.

I shouted, "Thundershock!" as I released an electric-based attack on the Pidgey, knocking it out. I was amazed that I could use Pokémon attacks without any prior knowledge of how to use them, but my amazement was short-lived.

I saw another Pidgey ahead and it attacked me. I felt the electricity inside my body flow through me and once again called, "Thundershock!"

I used it again on the Pidgey, knocking it out. I suddenly felt stronger, but before I could say anything, my body whipped around and my tail started moving in a whip-like fashion. I suddenly realized I had leveled up and learned the move, Tail Whip. I turned around to look at Stephanie and she said, "Good job!" I smiled in response to her enthusiasm.

Shortly after that, I came across an Oran Berry, picked it up, and Stephanie said, "That's a berry. Berries have a different number of effects. This Oran Berry restores your health somewhat and can satisfy your hunger a little bit." I nodded in understanding and held onto it, for future use.

Soon thereafter, I came across a different Pokémon this time. A Sunkern, and getting used to battling Pokémon by now, I called "Thundershock!" Then, the sparks flew off of my body and hit the Sunkern, knocking it out, being a surprise, since it's a Grass-type.

Being used to encountering wild Pokémon by now, I ran across an Exeggcute this time, and called "Thundershock!" To my surprise, the attack had missed the Exeggcute, then it started to use its own attack, and I noticed its eyes becoming hypnotizing. I realized this was a Hypnosis attack, but by then, it was too late and I was too wrapped up in it to look away.

I suddenly fell asleep for a brief period of time and took a few attacks, but while that was happening, Stephanie was trying to wake me up by nudging me. It soon worked, and I woke up, remembering what had happened.

I called, "Thundershock!" and tried shocking the Exeggcute, but missed again. Exeggcute attacked me again, and I called "Thundershock!" a little bit angry now at having missed it and being attacked quite a few times. I finally hit it and was happy with my victory.

I was about to move on when I heard Stephanie behind me, shouting with glee. I turned around and noticed she was absorbing energy from in front of her. I realized she had leveled up like me, and learned the move Absorb. I was happy for her and showed a thumb up symbol to express my happiness. She smiled at my thumb up symbol.

We came across another Exeggcute, and I called "Thundershock!" I shocked the Exeggcute and felt another burst of energy in my body. I had leveled up again, but instead of expressing my interest, I decided to move on.

Eventually, we reached the end of the woods, and there I saw the Caterpie we were looking for with its back turned to us, crying softly.

"Waaaaah... Mommy... Where are you...? Sniffle..." I heard it say when we were close enough to it. We walked up to it, but it was too upset to even hear us.

"We came to rescue you." Stephanie said once we were right behind it.

"Huh?" The Caterpie asked in response after turning around.

"Your mom's waiting. Let's get you out!" Stephanie said with a smile on her face.

"OK." The Caterpie replied, realizing that we were not a threat to it.

Eventually, we started backtracking our way through the Tiny Woods and found Caterpie's mom waiting for us.

"My baby's safe... I'm sorry, I don't know how I could ever thank you properly..." She replied, with a happiness in her eyes.

"Oh, that's OK! It has been dangerous lately with sudden quakes and fissures like that one. It was great to find your little boy unharmed." Stephanie replied with her eyes closed and a smile on her face.

"Please, may I have your names at least?" The Butterfree asked us, wanting to know those who had just saved her son.

"I'm Stephanie." Stephanie replied.

"I'm Daniel." I replied.

"............ Cool..." I turned to notice the Caterpie staring at me with sparkling eyes like I was his savior.

"He's, uh... Staring at me adoringly... Those sparkly eyes... It's a little embarrassing... But, this doesn't feel bad, either. It's like I'm a hero. Helping Pokémon in trouble might be a good experience." I said to myself.

"Thank you! Stephanie and Daniel!" The Caterpie suddenly exclaimed out loud.

"I know it isn't really enough, but this is a token of our thanks. Please accept it." The Butterfree moved towards Stephanie and handed her an Oran Berry, a Pecha Berry, and a Rawst Berry.

"Thank you so much. Good-bye." The Butterfree said to us before turning to the side and flying away, Caterpie inching behind her.

"Thank you for helping!" I turned towards Stephanie when she started speaking. "You're very tough. I was sure impressed." I blushed a little at that comment, but not enough for her to notice. "So... What are you going to do? Do you have any plans?"

"............" I began to think about what she asked me and wondered what I was going to do now. I had forgotten all about what happened to me in my quest to help the Caterpie, and I had no idea where to go, since I had no knowledge of this area.

"...Listen, Daniel. If you don't have a place to stay, you should come with me." Stephanie said and I nodded, following closely behind her.

After a while of walking, Stephanie and I eventually stopped. She told me to close my eyes when we started getting closer to where we going. "Well, this is the place..." Stephanie said and I opened my eyes to look ahead.

In front of me, there was an acorn-shaped hut, built out of wood. There were two windows on the sides of the front and a leaf-like stem from the top, like a real acorn. There were bushes surrounding the area around the hut. I started smiling widely and my eyes were sparkling, I assumed. "Wow! I can't explain, but I'm happy! I'm a human being, but I like this place. I feel weirdly happy! It might be an instinct thing for Pokémon... Maybe this is what it feels like to want to wag your tail... It doesn't matter! I'm happy! Maybe I feel that way because I'm Pikachu!"

"Oh, Daniel. You're impressed, aren't you?" Stephanie asked, obviously seeing my expression on my face. I nodded after turning to face her. "I thought so. I thought this would make a good place for you to live, Daniel. I was sure you would like it."

She walked over to a mailbox, pointed to it, and starting talking again, "This is your Mailbox. They deliver mail from Pokémon here. You know, just like the fissure Caterpie fell into... For some reason, there have been many natural disasters lately. Because of those disasters, many Pokémon are suffering. I want to help Pokémon in these tough times. I want to help change things so all the Pokémon can live in peace. So, uh... Well, I liked how you handled yourself when we rescued Caterpie. Would you like to join me on a rescue team? Daniel, with you, I think we could even become the world's best rescue team. How about it?"

I stood there in shock, reflecting on what she told me and had asked of me. There were natural disasters going on where we were? Then, I realized that the fissure Caterpie fell into must've been one of them. I started thinking about her offer. I didn't know this area all that well yet, and if I said no, there was no doubt I wouldn't last long on my own. With a smile on my face, I replied, "Sure, I'd love to be on a rescue team with you!"

With a smile on her face, Stephanie said, "Perfect! That's it, then! We're partners in our rescue team from now on, Daniel! Glad to have you on board!"

I was happy that she was happy. I figured if we were a team, we would have a team name, so I decided to ask her, "What's the team name?"

"The team name... Well, I don't have one yet." Stephanie replied. Then she looked at me for a second and spoke up again. "Daniel, I think you should be the one to create our team name."

"So, Daniel. What do you think would be a good name for us?" Stephanie said to me. I began to think about what might be a good name for us, whether it sounded cool, and if it related to the two of us. I said the first thing I thought of, "Team Nature."

I saw a happy expression on her face when she started speaking. "Nature! I like it! It's a good name! It's perfect for us!" I'm glad she was happy with the name and again, I was happy that she was happy.

"Rescue Team Nature! Let's do good starting tomorrow!" She thrust an arm up into the air and so did I, before she started walking away. I decided to ask her, "Where are you going?"

"My home." She replied. "Don't worry, I'll come back for you in the morning, for now get some rest inside your house and I'll see you in the morning. Good night." Stephanie said.

"Good night." I replied back and watched as she walked off into the distance.

I waited until she was out of my sight and I walked into my house.

Inside, it was pretty interesting, similar to being back home in my human house. On one side, I saw a vase full of water, a tree stump looking like a table with a mini-stump for a chair, and some flowers in a container. On the other, I saw a bowl of wax fruits and some more flowers in another container. Near the back, I saw two small windows and a big one, and a bundle of hay for a bed. There were more flowers and plants spread around the rest of the base embedded in the ground.

"This all looks pretty nice for a standard base. Well, I better get some sleep for tomorrow." I yawned and started walking over toward the bundle of hay, climbing on top of it and lying down.

As I lay there trying to go to sleep, I found myself thinking about Stephanie. Those cute yellow eyes, that slender green and yellow body, and that strong green tail of hers. "She sure is cute for a Treecko." I said to myself.

I found it weird that I had said that, especially when I wasn't that much into girls back in my human world. I knew I was straight, even though I hadn't been with a girl yet. I dismissed thinking about that shortly after and decided to try to go to sleep. I was pretty tired and I closed my eyes and entered the realm of dreams, thinking about what tomorrow would bring.

If I had any idea of what was going to happen in my future, I would've left right now without saying anything.

"And that is how Daniel and Stephanie began their careers together as a rescue team."

-----------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the first chapter. There will be more chapters once I progress more through the game. I look forward to reviews, positive or negative. I need to know what was good and what wasn't, so I can get better at this and be on the level of writers such as Charkonian, Chase, and Matt.

Comments on this should go in a review. Requests for me should go in e-mail. Suggestions and corrections for this story can either go in a review or e-mail. I should have the next chapter up soon, but not making any promises. Peace out for now.
