Unexpected Hero by The Wandering Pikachu

Story Notes:

My first story. It's supposed to be a story which revolves around the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game. The current chapters aren't exactly my best work, though I believe I am slowly improving them and getting better. My newer stories and chapters after the first ten of this story should hopefully be better.

Official Beginning

For those of you who enjoyed and commented on the first chapter, I give you my thanks. I hope to get even better at this writing thing, so keep an eye out for that. Sorry I haven't posted sooner, I got this new video game and have been caught up in playing that, but I decided to make time to do a new chapter. I hope you enjoy this chapter like the last one.

Also, I did some looking over the first chapter and noticed I made a few tiny errors I didn't take note of before. I fixed them all I think so it should be good now. If there are any in this chapter I'm unaware of, I'll fix them later. Enjoy the second chapter!

Chapter Two: Official Beginning

I woke up from my sleep, whatever I dreamed about quickly faded from my memory as I stretched my limbs, sat up, and stood on my legs. I looked around at where I was and at my body again.

"...I'm still the same. The way I look... I'm still Pikachu." I said to myself.

"But why would I be transformed into a Pokémon? ............ Hmm... I don't understand this at all..." I said to myself, trying to think of why I suddenly became a Pokémon, still drawing a blank in my memory.

"........................" As I stood there thinking, I suddenly yawned again.

"............ I feel groggy and sleepy... Not feeling well... I need more sleep..." I went to the bundle of hay and lay on top of it again, quickly returning to the dream world.

I woke up not too much later, I assumed, and yawned, stretching my limbs out again. I sat up and stood on my legs like earlier.

".................. Oof... I'm feeling refreshed!" I said to myself.

"I still look like a Pokémon, but..." just then, I remembered something. I met a Pokémon yesterday and helped it.

".................. Oh, that's right. That Pokémon... I think it was Stephanie?" I said to myself.

"We made a promise to form a rescue team together... I wonder what Stephanie is doing? I should go out." I walked out of my base to find a sight that made me laugh inside.

I found Stephanie in front of the door, sleeping sitting up. I was amazed that she was able to do that, but I figured I should wake her up since we were a rescue team now. I tapped her back a few times until she finally opened her eyes and got up, startled.

"...Hunh?! Oh, no!" Stephanie cried out. She then looked at both of her sides and turned around to face me.

"Hahaha, sorry! I was so excited, I came out here at dawn to wait for you. I must have snoozed off." Stephanie said, her eyes closed while laughing. I found that I rather liked hearing her laugh, considering hers was a beautiful one. I frowned at that, I've really got to stop thinking like that.

She saw my expression and asked me, "Is something wrong?"

"No, it's nothing. Nothing at all." I said to her. I figured that it was just my sleep affecting me and that I needed to wake up fully.

"Anyway... Today marks the start of our rescue team! Let's always do our best!" Stephanie said after hearing me finish.

".................." There was a long pause after that, no sound being made except for the wind blowing and our breathing. "...But, anyway... We don't have any job offers yet... Hahahaha..." She suddenly said out loud.

"Why don't you check the Mailbox?" I suddenly said.

"Oh, yeah! Maybe there's something in the Mailbox..." Stephanie said. She then walked over to the Mailbox and opened it up. She pulled out something that looked like a big box.

"I knew it'd be there! It's the Rescue Team Starter Set! They always give you one if you start a rescue team." She suddenly exclaimed with glee, her eyes sparkling. She then opened the box and inside, there was a Rescue Team Badge, a Toolbox, and an issue of Pokémon News.

"Yes! There are some good things here!" She said, then held out a pink-and-white enamel shaped egg with wings on the sides.

"First off, the Rescue Team Badge. It shows that we're a rescue team." She said, while holding out the egg. I nodded in understanding.

"This is a Toolbox. You use it for carrying items you find in dungeons." She said, holding out the box which looked similar to what in my human world was called a tackle box, used for fishing, but it had a shoulder strap so you could carry it easily. I nodded in understanding, and then she continued speaking. "Let's put the stuff Butterfree gave us in here for now." She said, putting in the items that Butterfree had given us the day before. "Items are very useful, so let's use them on our adventures."

"And finally, a copy of the Pokémon News. It's useful for rescue teams. I'll put the Pokémon News in the Mailbox. You should read it later on." She said, placing the Pokémon News in the Mailbox for me to look at later on whenever I wished.

"Anything else? Is there any other mail...? Maybe not?" She said, looking in the Mailbox again to see if she had missed anything. After a moment, she closed it up and said, "OK, so there isn't any mail for us after all...".

She walked over to me and spoke again. "If there were any rescue jobs, we would be getting mail, but... Nobody knows about us since we're so new a team, I guess. Hahaha..." She laughed nervously. She then handed me the toolbox and I took it, slinging it over my shoulder.

"Flap! Flap!" I suddenly heard flapping sounds like a bird normally makes when it flaps its wings to fly. I looked up to the sky and saw a Pelipper flying overhead, then it suddenly lowered itself over the Mailbox, opened it, put a letter inside, and closed it with a "Clunk!" sound.

"Oh? I wonder what it could be." Stephanie said, as the Pelipper flapped its wings again and took off, leaving us there without saying anything.

"Could this be...? Daniel, will you check the Mailbox, please?" Stephanie said.

"Sure." I replied. I walked over to the Mailbox and opened it, seeing a letter inside. I pulled it out and held it in my paw for Stephanie to see.

"Maybe it's a rescue job offer! What does it say?" Stephanie said, her eyes sparkling with delight.

I opened the envelope and took out the letter inside. I began reading the letter out loud. The words sounded like they had a buzzing sound when I read the letter out loud. "Bzz Bzz Bzz! I heard about you from Caterpie. Please. We need your help. Magnemite is in trouble. A strange electromagnetic wave flowed through a dungeon... And it stuck together Magnemite and Magnemite... That isn't enough to form a Magneton. It's not complete the way it is now. Please. We need help. Bzz Bzz Bzz. From Magnemite's friend" I finished reading the letter, put it back in the Mailbox, closed it, and looked at Stephanie.

"What do you think? Do you think we should go?" Stephanie asked me.

"Yes. I think we should. After all, it is our first official mission!" I said out loud, with a smile on my face.

"That's the spirit! Let's do our best!" Stephanie said, raising an arm up into the air and I raised my arm too. We set course for the location of the mission: Thunderwave Cave.

I was surprised that it took us as long as it did to get from our base to Thunderwave Cave, but that was because Thunderwave Cave was quite a distance from our base. We finally arrived, seeing two Magnemite in front of a rocky cave with their backs turned to us. They turned around when we were close enough so that they heard us.

"Oh, you are here. Bzbzbzz! My friends are in this cavern. Bzbzbzz. My friends should be deep inside this cave. Please help them! Bzbzbzzzt!" One of them said to us. Stephanie and I looked at each other and nodded. The two Magnemite parted to grant us entry, so that we could find their friends somewhere deep in the cave.

Upon entering, my body felt weird from some kind of unknown energy all around me. I figured this must be the disaster that caused the two Magnemite to become stuck together. I figured the reason I could feel it was because I was an Electric-type Pokémon. "It feels weird here. I can feel that energy that Magnemite was talking about in the letter. Let's get this mission done before anything bad happens." I said out loud, enough so Stephanie could hear me.

We started walking through the cave, trying to search for the missing Magnemite. Eventually, I saw a Rattata straight ahead and prepared for a battle. "Thundershock!" I shouted, unleashing the electricity from my body. It hit the Rattata and knocked it out.

After continuing our walking, I noticed some Poké on the ground and picked it up for future use. We continued walking for a little bit without encountering another enemy, which I figured was strange. A cave like this should have a bunch of Pokémon I figured.

Then, I heard Stephanie wasn't moving behind me, so I turned around and saw she ran into a Voltorb. I noticed Stephanie was leering at the Voltorb, so I figured she must have been doing a Leer attack. The Voltorb tried to tackle Stephanie, but missed her. "Absorb!" Stephanie called as she began using her Absorb move she learned for the first time since learning it. She was stealing energy from the Voltorb and soon after, it was unconscious.

I noticed some more Poké lying around and picked it up. I wondered when we would be able to use this, but I quickly dismissed that thought, remembering what we came here to do.

Shortly after, I noticed another Voltorb and I proceeded to battle this time. "Thundershock!" I yelled as I unleashed my electric attack on the Voltorb. I had hit it and knocked it out. Another surprise, since we were both Electric-types. I was about to move on when I felt stronger yet again. I then released a stream of electricity from my body unlike the electricity used for Thundershock. I realized this must have been Thunder Wave, and I had just learned it. I shouted, "Cool! Now I know Thunder Wave!"

I heard Stephanie behind me laugh again. "Oh, Daniel. You're so cute when you get excited. Good job." I was taken aback by what she said. Did she call me cute? I decided to reply and said, "You're not too bad-looking yourself."

I could tell that reply surprised her. She was staring at me with a look of uncertainty on her face. I decided to continue on ahead. "Coming?" I asked. Stephanie nodded in response, walking behind me.

As we began walking again, I began to think about why I felt like this around her. I was surprised that I was feeling this way, because I hadn't been into dating back home. Was I falling in love with her? I quickly dismissed that thought, because she's merely a friend, not to mention she's actually a Pokémon. Me, I was a human originally and didn't think I could or should fall in love with a Pokémon. I unknowingly picked up some extra Poké, which I held onto.

Eventually we reached the end of the cave, the two Magnemite we were looking for stuck together by the cave's unusual electromagnetic energy. Stephanie's voice brought me out of my thoughts.

"Oh, there they are! Let's get them out safely." Stephanie said. I nodded in response. She and I walked over to the two Magnemite, grabbed them by their magnets, and started pulling them with us back to the entrance. Eventually we saw the two Magnemite we encountered at the beginning and the two Magnemite that were stuck together finally separated and were cheering loudly.

"Our bodies separated. Bzbzbzz. Rejoice! Bzbzbzzt!" One of the Magnemite from the cave said.

"Yay! Bzbzbzzt!" The other Magnemite from the cave said.

"Yay! Bzbzbzzt!" The first Magnemite said.

"Be thankful, you two." One of the other two said.

"You are our hero. Thank you. Bzbzbzz!" The last one said.

One of the Magnemite walked up to us and handed some items to Stephanie. We were given some Poké, a Reviver Seed, and a Rawst Berry. I then put the items in the Toolbox for future use.

The Magnemite then went around us and left after giving us our reward. We decided to start walking back too. The return trip wasn't as long as the trip down there, thankfully.

"I'm glad our rescue mission went well today. Actually, since this was our first job as a proper rescue team... I was really tense and nervous." Stephanie said.

I was surprised that she was nervous, especially since she's a strong Pokémon, in my opinion. I decided to walk over and give her a hug, just as a friendly gesture. I don't know why I wanted to do this, it just felt right to me. I placed my arms around her back as a smile spread across my face. I pulled my head back and looked her in the face. "I'm glad it went well too." I replied back.

I could tell that she was surprised from the sudden embrace I had with her. Her eyes were staring at me, but she shook her head and started speaking again. "I'm exhausted now. I've got to go get some sleep. Let's keep up our good work tomorrow. See you." Stephanie said.

"See you tomorrow, Stephanie." I said.

I watched her walk on her hands and legs away from me. I found it weird that she walked like that, especially since she was a biped, like me. Dismissing that thought, I walked into my base, took off the Toolbox, and went to the bundle of hay to rest after a job well done.

However, my thoughts were on Stephanie. A few minutes ago, I was giving her a hug, but it was a symbol of friendship. However, something inside told me it was more than that. I thought back to my thoughts in the cave. Could I really be falling in love with her?

"I've only known her for a day. Though I know people can fall in love at first sight, I shouldn't think about her like that. She's just a friend." I said to myself. I closed my eyes and tried to fall asleep. A few minutes later, I was able to, entering the realm of dreams. I didn't know though that I would have a strange dream that night.

I hope this didn't seem rushed. I just wanted to get it up so people could enjoy it like they enjoyed the first chapter. I think I did a pretty good job, considering I only did this in like two-and-a-half hours. Again, reviews would be appreciated, good or bad, so I know what to fix. Anyway, I should have the next chapter up soon as well, but not making any guarantees there.
