Unexpected Hero by The Wandering Pikachu

Story Notes:

My first story. It's supposed to be a story which revolves around the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon game. The current chapters aren't exactly my best work, though I believe I am slowly improving them and getting better. My newer stories and chapters after the first ten of this story should hopefully be better.

A Tour and Requests

Okay, after a huge issue with a fellow writer on this site over my latest chapter, I decided to rewrite this chapter. I was going to wait until I got a response to an e-mail I sent to that writer using their contact link, but I decided to just rewrite this chapter. I've changed the function of the Gulpin Shop yet again, to please the writer that I upset. Also, I'll be busy with school for a few more weeks, but I'll try to make time to post once a week. Again, I've updated the second chapter, based on the words of a fan of my story thus far. Enjoy the third chapter!

Chapter Three: A Tour and Requests

In my realm of sleep, I can see a light all around accompanied by soft music playing. I see myself sitting up, but I know I am in my base lying down.

"......" I notice that my dream self is stirring softly, though his eyes are closed.

"............" His breathing is like that of a normal person when they are asleep. I wondered why my dream self's eyes are closed if this is a dream.

".................." I figure out that while my eyes are closed, his are as well. I began hearing thoughts from my dream self, like I'm thinking of them myself.

"Where... Where am I? Maybe... Is this a dream...?" My dream self thinks out loud. I hear a soft voice in the background, talking to me, though I can't make out the words.

"...Oh? There's someone here. Who is it...? Someone I know...?" I begin to think about whether or not I've heard this voice before. It sounds familiar, but I can't place it.

"......Hmm... I can't remember. ............" I see the world around me fading fast, signifying the end of the dream. I wish I had more time to contemplate the dream, but I didn't as I was waking up.

I woke up to the sound of soft chirping noises outside, probably from a bird of some sort. I yawned, stretching out my limbs as I did so. I sat up and stood on my legs, recalling something from my sleep.

"I think I dreamt something... But I can't quite remember what that dream was about..." I said to myself.

"Oh, well. Today's another day of rescues!" I said out loud, closing my eyes and smiling. "I wonder if I have any mail? Better check the Mailbox."

I wondered if Stephanie would be outside sleeping again when I started walking. To my surprise, I didn't see her there or anywhere outside when I exited my base. I continued walking to the Mailbox, opening it with my paw and discovering that there was nothing inside, except for the Pokémon News Stephanie had placed in there for me to read.

As I wondered when we would get some mail, if any, I heard footsteps behind me and I turned around and saw my favorite Treecko walking up to me.

"Good morning, Daniel! Aren't you up early?" Stephanie said with her eyes closed and a smile on her face.

"Yeah, I guess." I replied with a smile on my face.

She noticed that I had the Mailbox open with my paw. "Oh! So, you checked the Mailbox. ...So, was there anything? Were there any rescue requests?" Stephanie asked with that sparkle in her eyes.

"No, it was empty, I'm afraid." I said sadly, looking down to the ground.

"Huh? Empty?!" Stephanie said with shock. "Hmm... I suppose so. We've only started, after all." She said with a sad voice.

"Well, too bad. Want to go to Pokémon Square? I think if we go to the Pelipper Post Office, there'll be jobs posted. Pokémon Square's over this way. Let's go." Stephanie said with a happy voice again. I followed closely behind her as she walked west of the direction I was facing.

As we entered the square, I stood in amazement at what I saw. I saw Pokémon standing around behind counters, ready to help anyone who came their way. There were also Pokémon walking around, talking to each other. I suddenly felt like I was back in civilization, in what people back home called a flea market.

"This is Pokémon Square." Stephanie said with a happy expression. "Would you like me to show you around?" She asked me. I nodded in response to her question.

We started walking forward and eventually stopped in front of a stand with two Pokémon that looked like chameleons. One was green with yellow and the other was purple with green. "This is the Kecleon Shop. You can buy and sell items here." Stephanie said. The two Kecleon bowed to us, acknowledging our presence.

We continued walking forward and stopped in front of a stand with a Persian behind it. "This is Felicity Bank. You can save your money here." I nodded in understanding, a bank, no matter who runs it, is still a bank.

We walked south, toward a stand with a green and black blob behind it, a Gulpin. "This is the Gulpin Shop. He's recently come here, so I have no idea what he does. Probably something weird, looking at his stock."

I looked at Gulpin's stock to see some strange stuff. I saw what appeared to be dildos shaped like certain Pokémon, collars with an area for an inscription, and straps that were just big enough for a dick, I assumed. I started to blush furiously at the sight of the items that were in front of me.

The Gulpin noticed us talking and started to speak up. "I run an item shop for a Pokémon's personal needs and fun." He said to us. He noticed me blushing and looking at the items with curiosity. "Are you interested?" He asked me.

"No, no, I'm okay, but thanks for asking." I replied nervously. I heard a soft giggling next to me and I turned to see Stephanie laughing softly. It was obvious she saw me blushing and eyeing the items, but I still decided to ask, "What's so funny?"

"Oh, nothing. Let's continue the tour now." Stephanie said. We walked west towards one final stand, shaped like a wild beast. Behind it was a Pokémon with the same face as the stand and a little pouch with a baby inside. "This is Kangaskhan Storage. If you store items here, they'll never go missing. You should store important items here before you go out on any dungeon adventure." Stephanie said.

"What do you think? The businesses here help us." Stephanie said.

"It all looks pretty interesting. I'm going to like coming here." I replied, my voice returning back to normal from the initial shock and the blush on my face almost gone now.

"Oh, and there's also the Pelipper Post Office. That's up past here. I think we can get some information on rescue jobs. Let's first go to the Pelipper Post Office." Stephanie said.

As we started walking again, I began to wonder why I was eyeing the items at Gulpin's Shop. I started to think about the recent feelings I've had whenever I was with Stephanie. I somehow connected the feelings I've had with the items in Gulpin's Shop. However, I didn't know what it was, but it still drifted in the back of my mind. I decided to drop the issue for now, choosing to focus on the day's events.

Eventually, we reached a building shaped like a Pelipper's head. "That building is the Pelipper Post Office." Stephanie said, pointing to the post office. We walked over to a board in front of the post office. "This is where information is gathered from Pokémon needing rescue in various locations." Stephanie said, looking at the board.

"See? Have a look at this Bulletin Board." Stephanie said. "It lists rescue jobs. You want to check it out?" Stephanie asked.

"Sure, I'd love to see these jobs." I replied.

I looked at the board and noticed jobs that were on the board. The only ones I saw though were ones that were in the areas we've been in so far. I figured that we must need to explore more dungeons before more requests will be up. I figured that I should ask her how we do these jobs.

"So, how do we do these jobs?" I asked Stephanie.

"Oh, well, you reach up and select a job you want to take on. Then, you select the word Accept under the job. Then, after that, select Take Job to be able to go to the area and do the job. Our team name will be better known by doing these jobs and that should bring job offers to our Mailbox." Stephanie said. I nodded in understanding.

"However, if you don't select Take Job after you accept the job, we won't be able to do the job even if we go to the area. Always remember to select Take Job after you accept a job. Of course, you can also delete the job from our job list if you decide you don't want to do it later on." Stephanie said.

"I see." I replied. I walked up to the board and touched the jobs I saw under the cave we explored yesterday, Thunderwave Cave. I selected Accept under them and then Take Job so we could go to the cave and do the jobs. "Well, I did what you said. Shall we be on our way and go do some rescuing?" I said, a smile on my face.

"Sure!" Stephanie said, a smile on her face as well.

We started walking back in the opposite direction, through Pokémon Square, until we reached our base again. I walked inside, grabbed the Toolbox, slung it over my shoulder, and walked back out.

"So, shall we get going to Thunderwave Cave again?" I asked her.

"Yep, let's go!" Stephanie said, smiling widely at me.

We walked from our base back to the cave we explored just yesterday. The trip didn't seem to take as long as it did the first time we walked there, probably because we've gotten stronger, I assumed.

We entered the cave and I remembered that yesterday, there was a strange electromagnetic wave flowing through this dungeon. But, I didn't feel it today as the cave felt normal to me. We started walking again, eager to fulfill our first of three missions in this cave.

The first mission was to find a missing Rattata in the cave. We didn't encounter any enemies for a bit after entering, then I noticed something new on the ground. It looked like a rock and I picked it up. Stephanie saw me pick it up and decided to speak. "That's a Gravelerock. You throw it at a nearby enemy to deal damage to them from afar."

"Nice." I replied. I placed the Gravelerock in the Toolbox for future use. I also noticed some nearby Poké on the ground and picked it up. Shortly after, we encountered a Rattata. I noticed that this Rattata didn't seem scared and lost, so I figured it must not be the one we were looking for. I took my usual battle stance and felt the electricity build up inside me.

"Thundershock!" I called, shocking the Rattata and knocking it out. I saw that it had dropped something it was holding, more Poké. I picked it up for future use at the Kecleon Shop.

We started walking again and soon, I came upon an apple. I picked it up and placed it in the Toolbox. Stephanie figured out I knew its use already, because you eat apples to satisfy your hunger.

We continued walking and I could feel that the Rattata we were searching for was nearby. I figured it must be my rescue team instinct kicking in. Eventually, we came upon a Poochyena with a Rattata behind it. Poochyena attacked me and then, I saw sparks flying off of its body. It also wasn't moving anymore. I figured that must've been the special ability Pikachu have called Static, which paralyzes a foe sometimes when they come in contact with you. I took advantage of the opportunity and called, "Thundershock!"

I shocked the Poochyena and it fell down to the ground, defeated. Next, the Rattata came up to me and I felt the electricity in my body. "Thundershock!" I called, shocking the Rattata and defeating it.

We continued walking and eventually came upon another Rattata. I was prepared for another fight, when suddenly, I noticed this Rattata was looking around for a way out. I figured this must be the Rattata we were looking for! "Stephanie, I think that's the one we're looking for." I said, pointing to the Rattata ahead of me.

"I think you're right, Daniel. Let's go save him!" Stephanie replied.

"Excuse me, are you the one who requested to be saved?" I asked the Rattata.

"Hmm? Oh! Why, yes I am. Are you the ones who accepted my request?" The Rattata asked.

"Yes, we are. Don't worry, we'll get you home in no time little guy." Stephanie said.

As I began to wonder how we would get it home soon, Stephanie pulled out our badge and held it in front of the Rattata. I wondered what she was doing when she saw my confused look. "We'll get him home using this. Our badge allows us to send someone we're rescuing to outside the dungeon we're currently in." Stephanie said.

"Our badge can do that? Wow." I replied. I soon started to see the Rattata fade from view as it warped outside the cave. I suddenly realized we forgot to ask about our reward for helping him.

Stephanie knew I was about to ask her about it, when she spoke. "When we do a request in a dungeon, we'll get a reward when we exit the dungeon and by going to the Pelipper Post Office."

I nodded in understanding. "Well, let's go do our next mission." I said. Our next mission was to find a Sunkern that was lost somewhere in the cave.

We started walking again and I encountered a couple more apples, putting them in the Toolbox for future use. I soon encountered yet another Rattata and knowing we already rescued the one we needed to find, I prepared for another battle. I walked up to the Rattata and it whipped its tail in my face. I figured this must've been its Tail Whip attack.

I suddenly remembered the move I had learned yesterday. Reaching into my body, I found an area with a different kind of electricity from that of my Thundershock move. I called, "Thunder Wave!"

I unleashed the attack on the Rattata and watched as it became paralyzed. Deciding to use this as a chance to attack, I attacked the Rattata. It tried to run away from me, moving only a little bit due to the paralysis it was experiencing. I attacked it again, defeating it.

As we started walking again, I noticed there was a seed lying on the ground. I walked over to it and picked it up. "Seeds have different effects. I think this one is a Blast Seed, which blasts fire out of your mouth at a foe when you eat it." Stephanie said.

I placed the Blast Seed in the Toolbox for future use. I noticed there was no place to further advance, so I decided to backtrack my way to where I needed to go. I saw another Rattata and prepared for another fight, but I realized Stephanie's barely had any of the fights since we first met. I figured I should at least give her a chance to fight, she is a part of the team after all.

"Stephanie, do you want to take on the Rattata in front of us instead of me?" I asked.

"Uh, sure Daniel. Thanks." Stephanie replied. I stepped behind her, to watch the battle that was about to occur. "Leer!" Stephanie called, lowering the defense of the Rattata. The Rattata attacked Stephanie back, doing damage to her. Stephanie then attacked the Rattata back, doing more damage I presumed, because of the Leer move she used. The Rattata then used Tackle on Stephanie, hitting her a little hard. Stephanie then attacked the Rattata one last time, knocking it out.

"You okay?" I asked her. She was a little out of breath, breathing a little heavily. I figured this was my fault, since I hadn't been letting her battle lately.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Stephanie replied, with a smile on her face. However, mine had a look of sadness. She noticed and asked me that familiar question, "Is something wrong?"

"Yeah, I should've let you battle sometimes. I shouldn't have been doing all the battling myself. That was selfish of me. I'm sorry." I said with a sad voice, looking at the ground. I then felt Stephanie put her arms around me and pulled me into a hug. I rather liked it, so I didn't break free from her grasp. Then, she pulled her head back, lifted my head up, and looked me in the eyes.

"Hey, it's not your fault. I could've been offering to do the battling, but I chose not to. We're both a part of this rescue team, so I should be doing my part as well." Stephanie said, smiling at me.

"Can you forgive me?" I asked her.

"If you can forgive me." Stephanie replied, with a smile on her face.

"Of course I can. You're too cute for me not to forgive." I said. I suddenly gasped at what I said. I really wish I knew why I've been acting like this the past couple of days. Whenever I was around Stephanie, I felt whole, like she was a piece of me that was missing. I decided to drop the issue, because we had a mission to complete. "Well, let's get back to our mission." I said to her.

"Oh, yes, let's!" Stephanie said with a happy voice. We started walking again, eventually I felt my rescue team instinct telling me that the Sunkern we needed to find was nearby. I noticed some Poké on the ground and picked it up. Using my instincts, I walked the way I felt I needed to go, until I eventually spotted a Sunkern in the distance. I started walking towards the Sunkern picking up an Oran Berry on the way.

"Don't worry, you're safe now. You'll be home in no time." I said to the Sunkern, smiling at her.

"Thanks." Sunkern said to me. I pulled out my badge and held it up to the Sunkern, watching it disappear from view. "Well, shall we do our final mission and get out of here? I'm starting to feel a bit tired from all the walking and battling." I replied, my voice a little windy.

"Yeah, I'm a little tired myself. So let's get this done!" Stephanie said, smiling. We started walking again, looking for the last one we needed to rescue. It was an Exeggcute that got lost in the cave somehow. Suddenly, I felt the presence of the Exeggcute nearby, as I felt the other two who were lost in this cave.

I noticed a Voltorb and walked over to it, picking up an Oran Berry on the way and placing it in the Toolbox. Stephanie then appeared by my side and said, "Daniel! Let's battle him together!" I nodded in understanding.

I felt for the different kind of electricity in my body, finding it easier since I've used the technique before. "Thunder Wave!" I shouted, unleashing the paralyzing beam on the Voltorb.

"Leer!" Stephanie called, lowering the defense of the Voltorb, making it more vulnerable to our attacks now. The Voltorb was paralyzed, so it couldn't attack us. I attacked the Voltorb, hitting it hard. Then, Stephanie attacked the Voltorb, but it moved a little and dodged the attack. I attacked the Voltorb again, knocking it out.

My body felt a little stronger, so I figured I leveled up yet again. I decided to move on and continue looking for the Exeggcute. I picked up another apple and another Gravelerock I saw on the ground. I was walking in what I thought was the right direction, but didn't see the Exeggcute. I eventually ran into a new Pokémon, a Minun. I looked to Stephanie with a look asking if I could take care of it. She nodded back.

"Thundershock!" I called, shocking the Minun. It seemed to not be moving, so I figured my Thundershock must have paralyzed it. I attacked the Minun, defeating it. I spotted some Poké, so I picked it up and noticed there was nowhere to advance, so I backtracked my way and continued on. Eventually, we came across the Exeggcute we were looking for, so I turned to Stephanie and pointed to it. She nodded in understanding, so we walked over to it, while I picked up an Oran Berry and put it in the Toolbox.

"We're here to rescue you. I'll send you home now." I said to the Exeggcute.

It nodded in response to what I said and just sat there, while I pulled out the Rescue Team Badge and held it up to the Exeggcute, watching it disappear back to the entrance of the cave.

"Well, we're done here. Shall we go to the Pelipper Post Office now?" I asked Stephanie.

"Yeah, let's go there." Stephanie replied.

We backtracked our way to the entrance of the cave and left the area, preparing to go to the Pelipper Post Office. It took us a little longer to get back than yesterday, but that was because we were both tired from all the battling.

We eventually arrived at the Pelipper Post Office and saw the Pokémon we had rescued today, along with the Exeggcute who requested we find his Rattata friend. The Exeggcute and Rattata walked over and handed us a Reviver Seed and a Gravelerock. They then left the area and the Sunkern walked over to us. The Sunkern handed over a Gravelerock and a Cheri Berry and left us. The Exeggcute then walked over, handed us a Reviver Seed and a Gravelerock, and left us. Seeing as we were done, we started walking back through Pokémon Square, towards our base for a night's well-earned rest.

"Well, today was a tough day, but we did a good job!" Stephanie said.

"Yeah, I agree." I replied, smiling at her.

"Well, I'm tired after all that. I'm going to go home and call it a night. See you tomorrow, Daniel!" Stephanie said.

"See you tomorrow, Stephanie." I replied.

I watched her walk out of sight, then I went into my base, took off the Toolbox, and lied down on the bundle of hay. I then recalled the items I saw at Gulpin's Shop and began to think again about why I had liked those items so much. I've never mated with a girl, let alone dated one. Yet, the thought of those items was driving something within me wild.

"What's with me? Why do I feel like this? I would give anything to know the answer." I said to myself. I decided to drop the subject and focus on sleeping. The tiredness I felt from the day's events eventually lulled me into a peaceful sleep. Little did I know I would have another dream that night.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I hoped you liked my rewrite of the third chapter, my story's only going to get better. Reviews, as always, are appreciated, so I can know what to do to better myself and become as good as some of the best writers on this site, though I've been told I'm doing a great job thus far. And to the person who was upset with me, I hope this chapter is much more to your liking than how it was originally.

Well I never got to read the original so I can't comment on it, but if it was like it was in the game, I don't see what the problem was. Oh well maybe they wanted a sex shop instead of a place to remember forgotten moves. Onto the next chapter.
