Chapter 16

Ch. 16

So with that we walked out of the Pokemon center and started to look around for someone to challenge. The only problem with that was everyone we asked in the city didn't want to battle because either they were to busy or didn't have Pokemon to battle with right then. After searching for quite a while I sat down on a bench in the park to rest my feet. Just then I thought of something. I looked down to the Riolu that was sitting in my lap.

"You know, I think it would be a good idea to give you a name their little one. After all we can't keep calling you what you are. It wouldn't be fitting." So I thought for a while and finally a name jumped into my mind. I looked down at the Riolu and said "Little one, how does the name Rena sound to you?" The Riolu gave off a happy little bark and nuzzled into my chest.

"Well I would think that she really likes the name." I nodded and then Rena's ears perked up and she looked behind me and started to growl. I followed her gaze and saw two young men facing one another and then they both called out at the same time.

"POKEMON BATTLE!"

I watched as one kid pulled out a pokeball and threw it halfway towards the other kid and it erupted and out came a Milktank. The Milktank took on a defensive stance and awaited its opponent. (For those of you who don't know, think of someone who is skateboarding with their weight on their back leg) Just then Rena started to whimper and she buried her head deep into my chest and curled into the tightest ball she could, as if trying to make her less visible as possible. Just then the other young trainer threw out a Dusk Ball and out emerged a Blaziken. I thought that this would be an easy match since most trainers would teach their Milktank rollout, and since rollout was a ground type move it would be really effective against a fire type, but then a Blaziken was also a fighting/fire type and the Milktank was a normal type it would have the advantage, since the Milktank was a normal type.

"This should be a good battle, but why are you so scared Rena?" As I looked down at her. Then the answer hit me, that trainer that had thrown out a Blaziken was probably the one that had beaten up Rena the night before. Just then the sound of battle could be heard, and by the time I looked back to the battle it was over. The trainer that had the Blaziken was laughing while the other was whimpering over an very hurt and unconscious Milktank. And just as I thought, there were several scorched foot prints going in a strait line on the Milktank. I guess the trainer with the Milktank had ordered it to use rollout and the Blaziken had used Blaze Kick, since all the burn marks were almost in a strait line. I looked down again and saw that Rena was shivering and I thought that that was enough and turned to leave, I heard one of the boys call out.

"You bastard, why did you have to beat up Russel so bad! Couldn't you see that he couldn't continue! Why did you continue to have your Blaziken continue to attack him?" Man just hearing someone go overboard with their attacks was starting to get my blood to boil, on top of seeing the trainer that had hurt Rena.

"Well maybe you should have considered on choosing a better Pokemon to battle me, or better yet, the consequences of going up against an ace trainer like myself." The boy puffed out his chest and acted like he was king of the mountain. I smirked.

"Donovin, I know what your thinking and I agree. That boy needs to be taught a lesson. What say you?" I nodded and started to form a strategy with Jenavee between our minds. Once done, I looked down at Rena.

"Rena I would like to battle your old trainer and teach him a lesson. If you prefer, you can wait inside a pokeball until its over." She looked up at me with tear filled eyes and nodded. So I pulled off a pokeball and tapped it on her head. The ball sprung open and Rena turned into a white light that vanished into the open ball. The ball didn't even shake before it pinged. I shrank the ball and clipped it onto my belt. Just then the trainer called out.

"Man isn't there any decent trainers in this town?" Looking up at him, he shook his head. I picked up my pack then Jenavee jumped up then sat on shoulder and we walked over to him and said.

"Well if their isn't anybody else that is willing to teach you a lesson on how to treat Pokemon with respect, then I'll take you on." The boy looked at me and started to laugh.

"Just because your taller than me doesn't make you better than me. Now put up or shut up!" His Blaziken took center field. I turned to face the other trainer with the injured Pokemon.

"You might want to take your Milktank down to the Pokemon center and get it healed up before it's injuries get any worse." The trainer nodded to me with a sniffle and recalled his Milktank and ran off.

"Hay wait a minute, he didn't pay me for beating him." I turned to face the trainer.

"For beating a Pokemon to such an extent, you don't deserve your license." I put down my pack and took Jenavee off my shoulder. "Ok now Jenavee, I know this is your first battle but don't be scared." As if I really needed to tell her, but she was shivering pretty badly. "It's ok. Tell you what, if you do really well, I will take you out and buy you some ice cream after-words. Ok?" She turned back to me with wide anime eyes and started to bounce around while clapping her hands.

"Are you kidding me? Your planning to send a Pokemon that you haven't even had in a battle before against someone who just wiped the floor with his last opponent. Man what are you thinking. Blaziken show this runt no mercy." The Blaziken cried out and its wrists shot into fire. Jenavee looked over to the Blaziken and started to shake again. I gently patted her on her backside and she nervously tip toed into the middle of the battle area. "Man I don't even want to waste my time, Blaziken do as you wish."

The Blaziken started off with a Blaze Kick, but just as it was about to connect, Jenavee curled up into a ball and started to shake there on the ground. The Blaziken just sailed past and skidded to a stop a little ways past. It turned and looked back as to find out why it's kick didn't connect. When it saw that Jenavee was crouched over in fear it started to laugh. "Well isn't that a first. Blaziken actually missed its mark. But it only looks like the reason it missed was that your Kirlia just fell down in fear. Blaziken finish this quick so we can get out of here." Just then the Blaziken launched another Blaze Kick and this time it was going to connect.

"Ok Jenavee I guess play time is over. Finish it." While in mid flight, Blaziken was engulfed in a purple aura and then just as it was about to connect, Jenavee jumped out of the way. As if she had it's foot in her hands the Blaziken flew in a whole new direction and slammed into a tree. The Blaziken's eyes went wide as it went right threw the tree and landed unconscious with the tree nearly landing on it. The boy just looked on, with his mouth and eyes wide.

"N...No...no-way. How could a weakling like this beat my all powerful Blaziken?" He fell to his knees.

"If you have to ask then I won't tell you, because that shows your own stupidity, ignorance, lack of experience, and shallow mind." I walked over and picked up Jenavee and hugged her. "You did better than I could have hoped, well done." She smiled and gave me a big hug and a kiss on my cheek. I walked over to the boy who was sitting on the ground. "Now I believe you owe me some money." The boy looked like he was about to lash out at me. "Now hold on a second. You had better think twice before you do something stupid kid." The kid visibly relaxes then stands up then recalls his Blaziken.

"Alright...I lost." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a credit card, then tosses it to my feet. I reach down and pick it up. "Tell me something." He says to me.

"If I can." After I pick up the card I see that he a serious look on his face.

"Tell me how you were able to defeat me so easily?" A smile creeps across my face.

"Well if you must know, you just have to think outside the box about battles." The kid just gives me a look of total confusion. "I see you don't understand what I said. It's very simple, if your opponent is stronger or faster than you, then use that against them."

"I don't understand." I just smile again and shake my head.

"Just think about it." I slowly turned and waved to the kid as we leave him behind and pocketed the card. When we are a good distance away from the battle area Jenavee starts to laugh. "What are you laughing about Jenavee?"

"The boy that we just defeated just...does...not...get...it. But he thinks that he was just defeated by an Ace trainer. But there is something that is bothering me."

"What is it Jenavee?"

"Where did you learn to battle like that?" I just smiled and laughed as we went back to town.

"Well that is my little secret. Besides I think that I need to do a little explaining before I answer any more of your questions." Jenavee gave me a pouting look and turned to look away from me. So as we returned to the town I released Rena from her ball and she happily walked beside me. We went over to the pokemart and I went up to the counter. Behind the counter was an elderly man with white hair and a younger women. The women was helping another customer at the moment and so I turned to the man.

"Excuse me sir." The man turned to me. He was wearing a blue and white striped shirt with the same color pants. He had his silver colored hair cut short and an air around him that said that he had been doing this job for quite a while.

"Welcome, and how might I help you today?" I reached into my pocket and handed him the card that the boy gave me.

"I would like to find out how much is on this card." The man nodded and swiped the card in some sort of credit card machine in front of him. He punched a few keys and then turned back to me with a print out.

"It says that you have about 500 poke dollars on it. Is there something that I can help you find?" I nodded and told him a few necessities that I needed, as well as a few potions, first aid items, and some cloths for myself. "It would seem that you don't know your way around a pokemart, well I guess that I could spare a few minutes to help you out." This guy was a little rude, but since he was going to be helping me out, I would let it slide.

I spent most of the day purchasing the rest of the supplies that I needed, along with a few things for Jenavee and Rena. Once we were done shopping I had nearly spent all the money on the card. So I thought that I would have to think up a way to get some more money later. So I thanked the man and the three of us walked out of the mart with my arms full of supplies. I didn't want to go back to that Pokemon center to spend the night so I looked down to my two friends.

"I hope that the two of you don't mind, but I think it would be best if we camped outside tonight." Jenavee and Rena looked at each other and nodded. So we walked to the forest and found a quiet place in a clearing, and there was a stream was not that far off. So I pitched our tent while Rena went off to gather some wood for a fire and Jenavee to get some water from the stream. Rena was the first to come back with several sticks in her mouth. When I saw this I couldn't stop laughing. (Try and imagine a dog with about five or six sticks in its mouth !P )

Rena looked over at me with a questioning look on her muzzle and a tilted head. That's when I heard Jenavee scream. Rena dropped her sticks and I dropped the rocks that I was using to outline the fire pit. We both made a mad dash towards the stream that Jenavee was supposed to get some water from. When we arrived I looked on with shock at what I saw.
