Chapter 38

Journey to Another World 3
Ch. 8

"Damn that must have been on hell of a dream that that kid just had." As the doctor turns away from the obvious tent in the blankets. 'Have to call in the nurse to come in here and clean up after him, if this keeps up.' He puts the clipboard back on the hook a the end of the bed, then looks back up at the boy. "To late." As the sheets start to turn a darker color over the tent. He walks over to the wall and hit's the button on the intercom. "I'm going to need a nurse to clean up the patient in room 4d." He looks over his shoulder and shakes his head. "And tell her to bring a sponge and an extra set of sheets." 'Can't let his mother see him in this kind of state.'

He turns and starts to head out of the room, but only gets to the doorway when, BUMP. He collides with someone coming into the room. The two people fall to the floor on their backsides and simultaneously say the usual ouch, then rub their backsides.

"Alright who's the wise guy." Says a female voice. Then shock fills her face as the nurse realizes that she just knocked down the doctor. "I'm so sorry doctor Evans. I was just..."

"It's alright. Just make sure to watch where your going next time." As the doctor practically jumps to his feet. The nurse quickly scrambles around the floor, quickly picking up the bucket, sponge, and a few new blankets that she'd dropped. Then quickly stands as well.

She gets on her tippy toes to look over the doctors shoulder, only to blush at what she sees the cause for the items that the doctor as asked for. "It would seem that your patient in there is having a very pleasant dream." The doctor says as he looks over his shoulder at the room, and can't stop a smile from appearing on his lips as he turns to look back at the blushing nurse.

"Oh god." She can't stop looking over the doctors shoulder.

"If it's to much trouble for you to deal with, I'll just get another one of the shaft..." He stops, coughs, then straitens his tie. "Staff members...to clean up after him. So don't feel like you need to go out of your way to deal with this..." He waves his arm at the room. "Situation."

"No it's alright doctor." She said as she slowly walked past him and into the room. "After all, this is what us nurses are for." So pulling the curtain in front of the door she goes about changing the sheets, a sponge bath, and slightly shifting him around to prevent bed soars. A little later she emerges from the room with a heavy blush as well as the dirty sheets in her arms.

Walking slowly, she goes over to the dirty linen chute and throws the sheets down then quickly runs back to the nursing station. "What's the matter newbe?" A rather large dark skin woman asks. "Job a little too much for you?"

"It's not that." She replies. "Its just that I had to change a set of sheets on a guy who had..." The other nurse raised an eyebrow. "He had a..." She placed her hand over her crotch and wiggled her fingers around. To which the other nurse couldn't help but laugh at.

"Embarrassed over a small thing like that." She looked over to the room and laughed again. Then turned back to the new girl. "You don't need to worry about it that much. After all he's in a coma after all." She took a sheet of paper and stuffed it into an outgoing pile. "You get guys like him every now and again." She leaned a little closer to the girl. "Just be thankful that he didn't soil the bed instead." Which got the girl to turn a little green.

-------------------------(A FEW HOURS LATER)-----------------------

"Your kidding me? He actually said that." The new girl said to the head nurse.

"Hay, keep your voice down." She scolded her.

"But its true?" To which the head nurse nodded.

"Weirdest thing I'd ever heard of." She looked around the hospital to make sure that she wouldn't be overheard. "After a quick treatment to that new drug that supposedly wakes people from a coma, he only says, 'Send me back. I'm not finished yet.'. Then slips back into the coma again."

"And you say that the mother actually is going to follow through with her sons wishes?" She says in a unbelievable tone.

"And what's so strange about trying to make sure that your son is kept happy." A women asks. Causing both nurses to jump in their swivel chairs and look up at the lady. On the other side of the desk stands the boys mother dressed in a business suit, holding a bunch of flowers in a vase. "He often doesn't find things that makes him happy. So you can imagine my surprise when he asked for this." Turns and heads into the room to take her usual seat next to him and begins to fiddle with his hair.

"That's his mother?" To which the other girl nods. "She's beautiful." Then she slowly get up and walks around the desk.

"Where're you going?" To which she gives the head nurse a smile.

"Just going to see if I can cheer up his mom." As she points to the women that has fallen into a soft sob.

A few steps later she enters the room and picks up the chart, trying to act professional. "Your one lucky lady." Which gets the mother to look up at the nurse. "You've got quite a um...handsome young boy here." Says the young nurse, which gets the mother to smile up at her.

She dabs at her eyes for a moment with a handkerchief, trying to hide the fact that she'd been crying. "Thanks." Are her only words as she moves a stray hair out of the boys face, then smiles up to her. "He's never shown that much interest in anything other than the local Renaissance fair around here. So when he expressed a need to return to the dream that he must be having." As she pointed to the REM (Rapid Eye Movement if you didn't know) movement and the smile on his face.

"So what choice did I have? Either pull him from something that he's found to love. Or allow him to enjoy the dream a little longer." Tears start to build up in her eyes. "I just know that..." Sob. "That he can't stay like this for much longer." She looks up to the nurse. "Otherwise he might never wake up." And from that point, she breaks down and fully allows herself to cry in her hands.

The nurse takes the hint and quietly slips out of the room. 'This must be really hard, seeing her son like this.' Then looks over to the young man. 'But she's right. He can't really remain like that indefinitely. He's got to realize that there are people out here that miss and love him too.'

"NURSE!" Just then a yell is heard coming from the room. The nurse nearly jumps out of her skin from the abruptness of the yell. Just like a toon that has been picked up from when there are about to take off at an unbelievable speed, the nurses shoes slip around until her shoes finally grab the floor and rushes back into the room.

"What's the matter miss. Did something happen to him?" She sees the mother standing over the boy with her hands pealing open the boys eyes.

"I was just brushing a stray hair out of his face when I noticed a weird tint to his eyes." She motions for the nurse to take a look and the nurse does so. Sure enough, the boys eyes are totally blood stained and almost leaking blood as well.

"This isn't normal." She says to nobody. The mother lets go of his eyes and turns to look at the nurse

"Then, what could this mean?" She asks the nurse in a very concerned voice then looks back at her son.

"I'm not really sure." She picks up the chart on his bed and starts to write something down on it. "It could either be a cause of the fact that he's been in that coma for so long, or..."

"Or what?" She asks the nurse again.

"That that dream that he's having, is a very emotional dream." As she points to the REM of you young boy, and the both nod to each other.
