Forgotten Instincts
Episode 050
"Fluctuating Relations"
By Darfix

In conjunction with the escapade between Skylia and Niktsu, Edge continues her search for the Vulpix she had sent down stream, plaguing her with a guilty conscience. It is apparent, as she bounds down the water's edge with her head on a swivel in search of anything floating in the water that she seems quite frustrated with her current train of thought.

"You couldn't just walk away, could you?" she asks herself, lowering her head in a manner to fit her discomfited demeanor, "No, no, you had to feel sorry for the Vulpix," she later adds while swiftly darting through shrubs and other diverse forms of vegetation.

The Zigzagoon begins to feel as if she had been going on for hours and her hope for finding him alive begins to subside. She can feel her top teeth clashing with her bottom teeth as guilt turns to the thoughts of being a cold blooded murderer. As these thoughts begin to consume her consciousness, she suddenly sees a head pop up above water around the center of the river.

The gasp of air that follows would cement the theory that it was the Vulpix she was looking for and her head suddenly snaps into his direction. A chance to redeem herself perhaps? She quickly springs into action after seeing him struggle to doggy-paddle in the rough currents of the stream. She races along side the river bank at breakneck speed in attempt to get ahead of Kyotsu. While doing this she can see that up ahead the water gets even more fierce than the pool he was already traveling through. Seeing this, she bites her lower lip as she realizes she will not have much time at all to pull of this rescue effort before he gets swallowed up and claimed by the river.

"Hang on, "Pixy"!" she shouts to the drowning Vulpix as she can feel the strain on her legs for working them as hard as she is. She is putting a lot of hope on the thought of there being a low tree, or a log that she could leap onto in an effort to grab him as he floats passed. Though the area is rich in flora of all kinds, she quickly notices that the river itself is pretty free of any fallen plant life.

Despite the fatigue from trying to force himself to keep his head above water, his ears manage to detect the voice of the Zigzagoon. He manages to turn his head just enough to have a look, seeing her racing along shore for whatever reason. He cannot help but wonder why the heck she would decide to have a change of heart and attempt to save him now? It was her fault he was in here, after all!

"Just hang in there!" she yells to him again, her voice drowned out by her panting and tainted by her worry. Seeing a very weak assortment of objects to use in an effort to save him had her in a bit of a primal state of fear. As luck would have it, however, her eyes lock onto a few nearly flat stones spanning out across the stream to around the point where the water starts to get rough. It would not be easy making some of the jumps, but she did owe it to him...

Making a quick ninety degree turn, Edge goes from a fast paced, straight run to a leap onto the first stone near the water's edge. The stone is quick slippery and she loses her balance for a moment before regaining it after a moment of teeth grinding.

"Whew..." she whimpers lightly, lifting her sight from her now stabilized paws to the Vulpix that was on a course in her direction. Time is short, she leaps on over to the next stone, falling victim to a similar fate as last time. In an effort to increase her balance, she parts all four legs in opposite directions and holds her ground. However, the stone she is stationed on is fairly small, causing her right hind paw to dip into the water lightly. The water is freezing cold to the touch. She pulls her paw back just as quickly as it slipped in and gives it a shake, forcing her to dwell on the fact that not only was he a Fire type trapped in a watery tomb, he also had his whole body surrounded by this chilling stream. She can hardly imagine what it would be like.

"...hang in there, Pixy-boy!" she calls one more time, taking a leap to the next stone, now ending up almost directly in front of his current trajectory. She braces herself, for she is positive it would take all of her strength to pull him onto her rock with her, especially considering his current speed.

Kyotsu gets a quick glance of her, lying down on her chest with her tail and hind section in the air, her fore paws outstretched to grab his own. Even he can see from his current position that despite her effort, she would not be able to remain on the stone if she had to hold his and her own body weight up on the slippery rock. Unfortunately, with his lungs already filled with a decent amount of water, warning her was impossible.

Kyotsu floats into position parallel to Edge as she grabs onto his fore paws with her own, even going as far as biting onto the nape of his neck for additional grasp. Making contact is successful, but as she fortifies her legs and paws onto the stone, she is suddenly forced off of it as her paws slide across the surface like wooden shoes on an oil slick.

Both animals are flung into the rough part of the stream and begin to travel through the white-water, rocky part of the river with zero control.

Meanwhile, despite the coldness of the morning, Destiny had managed to find some form of sleep while being carried away by the Noctowl that had saved her from the Poacher's camp with promise of reuniting her with Skylia and her own mate. However, the course she had taken, in comparison to the one promised, turns out to be quite a bit different. She is awoken when her hind paws come in contact with a cold, stony floor and the Noctowl releases her sore shoulders from his talons' grip.

Quickly he turns around to watch the Vulpix as she is abruptly forced from her much needed slumber, struggling to her paws and giving her body a recomposing shake.

"Whatâ"in the world?" she questions, sitting down and lifting one fore paw to rub her tired eyes.

"Here's the scoop, flaming beauty, your mate owes us a little something, and when he delivers, we'll deliver you to him. We're just keeping you as collateral, to make sure he follows through with the orders given to him," the Noctowl states while pruning his feathers casually.

Destiny's ears pin back a little as she opens her eyes to have a look at the giant bird, "Wâ"wait, but you said you were taking me to..."

"I lied," he responds bluntly.

"...then, what happened toâ"Skylia?" she asks with a frown, finding herself backing away a little bit as she clears her throat after speaking to the night bird.

"She's most likely doing very well, and that is all you need to know. You will stay here and be a good girl. My wise guys are instructed not to harm you, but if you attempt escape, you become theirs until I return. Meaning they have every right to everything you have to offer. I would just sit tight and wait for my return if I were you. We would not want any harm to come to your litter, now would we?" he questions her, quirking a brow in a questioning manner.

Destiny's jaw drops some as she feels her backside hit the wall of the cave, "Youâ"how would you...?"

The Noctowl smirks a bit and stretches his wings, "We know a lot more than you think, and are capable of obtaining any information we may want. Don't worry, Darfix will me made known that unless he cooperates, he will not see you again. That will insure his full cooperation. Now, if you'll excuse me..."

Yukon then takes a few steps backwards before lifting his wings in the air and flapping them with impressive sums of strength. He is soon airborne and flying off into Darfix' direction, leaving Destinyâ"seemingly alone.

The young vixen lies down on her tummy against the wall, releasing a heavy sigh. He had mentioned his "wise-guys" but she saw no one in the cave. Surely he would not make up such a thing for that would make escape pretty easy. Either way, she was too terrified to move. If she did, what would happen? They knew she was pregnant apparently, such a thing could be used very effortlessly against a first mother to be...

Meanwhile, Darfix remains asleep where Niktsu and Skylia had left them, totally oblivious to the fact that the two had committed the act of love he was suppose to do as payment to the Noctowl and his crew. As such, Niktsu had completed Darfix' job for him without either of them knowing it, creating a very complicated situation if any of them were to find out. In a way, Niktsu was now the prince to the tribe Skylia belonged to, making him one of the few non-Mightyena members of the pack. Surely, Tiasha would not be to thrilled to hear about the news.

Speaking of the controlling female Mightyena, dawn had descended upon the forest and she was beginning to awaken along side her compatriots, Kyotsu's lover and his sister, Litivia and Subaki, as well as the young Eevee girl, Konya. With it now being morning, Litivia and Subaki would surely worry that Kyotsu did not return from last night, where Konya would be noticing Darfix had gone missing. Assuming Tiasha had, in her mind, forgiven Niktsu for not being submissive, she too would be worrying about her loved one.

However, as she rises, stretching her fore and hind legs in the typical canine fashion, she seems rather contented and worry-free. She blinks her eyes a few times in a recomposing manner before looking out on those she had shared rest with that night.

Konya is still sleeping in a little ball of tawny and white fur, whilst Subaki and Litivia sleep with their tails over their eyes. Tiasha, never being the patient type, had decided to take it upon herself to be wake-up call for the morning.

"Alright, everyone," she barks tiredly, "I'm sure you're all dying to find your friends..." she grumbles with only mild enthusiasm. Perhaps she figured it'd get her mind off Niktsu to find the others. Or perhaps she wanted to find the Flareon?

Tiasha's voice travels to the ears of all three girls who proceed to awaken at their own paces. Litivia proceeds to yawn and follow the general pattern involved with waking up. Her six tails sway back and forth as she extends her hind legs outward one after the other. Following her is Subaki and Konya.

"You mean, they haven't returned yet?" Litivia asks, her fatigue seeming to instantly dissolve at the knowledge that her lover had not yet returned.

"Apparently not," Tiasha replies, lifting one of her hind legs to scratch her ears in a rather care free nature, "I figured you'd want to group up and go looking for them. Clearly they ran into trouble..."

"Yes, I think we should begin searching immediately in that case..." Litivia replies at a soft whisper that would indicate she is rather worried, though perhaps intimidated into not showing it considering Tiasha's attitude to the news. This leads her to ask, "Soâ"where's Niktsu?"

Tiasha immediately scoffs and flicks her tail before standing back up again, "That low life?" she asks the Vulpix, giving her a less than friendly glare.

"...what happened?" Subaki asks quickly, sporting an expression of innocent curiosity.

"It doesn't matter, let's just find the others..." Tiasha insists, already taking point so as to force the questions to stop and put everyone's mind on finding their missing members. Of course under these circumstances, the three younger females proceed to follow Tiasha in their search.

As Tiasha rallies her troop to look for their lovers and friends, Yukon is just arriving in the general location he left Darfix the night before. Upon coming in for a landing and only seeing the Eevee, his rage quickly begins to build, assuming the Eevee had disobeyed his orders.

The Noctowl lands mere inches from the Eevee and lowers his beak to the sleeping fox's ears to take a quick bite out of the tip. He does not apply a huge sum of pressure, but enough to inflict noticeable pain.

Instantly the Eevee is jolted from his slumber with a quick yip. "Hey!" Darfix shouts, rubbing his ear with the fore paw on the same side, cocking his head down on that side to reach it better, "What gives?!" he questions the Noctowl before making eye contact.

"Where's the girl?" Yukon asks unkindly, "Did you commit your deed? Is she not carrying your chicks?" the bird asks, using the avian term for offspring out of familiarity.

"What? Skylia? The Poochyena?" Darfix asks quickly, still rubbing his ear, "No, we..." he trails off for a moment, glancing around his surroundings, "Heyâ"where'd she go? Niktsu too, theyâ"both left?" he asks before turning back to the Noctowl, who is displaying an unamused expression on his face.

"Quit stalling, mammal, if you do not mount and fornicate with herâ"I don't care if you have to rape her, you will never see your mate again," the Noctowl threatens, "I have taken her to a place where she will remain until your act is complete. She can give birth in there for all I careâ"now get your shit together and go insure that our enemy will not gain power in his tribe!" Yukon screeches, spreading his wings quickly without regard to Darfix' proximity, and light weight, which causes him to tumble backwards a little bit until he lands on his tummy, facing the bird's talons.

"Quit being a pussy and go get some, I don't see what the trouble is, you've got your boys still, after all..."

That is all the large bird says before taking flight and withdrawing into the sky once again, leaving the Eevee to worry about his mate and wonder where the heck his target went to. What would Niktsu want with her anyway? Why would they have left and not told him? One thing was for certain, he had to find them quickly if he ever wanted to see Destiny again...
