Forgotten Instincts
Episode 06
"Mirror Image Vulpix"
By Darfix

Morning arrives in the usual way, and the sun's rays spread across the land. Darfix and Destiny are soon covered completely in the pleasurable warmth off the sun. Both are asleep, and cuddling quite closely to one another...intertwined in some areas.

The warmth gets to Darfix before it gets to Destiny. Fire types were always warm, and in most cases cannot tell if the temperature changes a few degrees in a matter of minutes. Darfix yawns, and attempts to set himself free of Destiny's grasp, before realizingâ"they were sleeping together! Finally now awake, Darfix remembers last night. He and Destiny were courting!

A smile forms quickly on the Eevee's maw, as he glances at the sleeping beauty in his paws. She was lying in a manner, in which her hind legs where intertwined with his own. Their tails were also intertwined. He finds himself in a daze while gazing at her magnificent beauty.

However, the moment couldn't last forever, and the two of them were heading for Goldenrod Forest. As much as he would love to stay and watch her sleep peacefully, they would have to get going soon if they wanted to arrive at their destination at a decent hour. "Destinyâ"love..." he says softly, whilst running his tongue across her cheek.

He catches her eye lids scrunching a little, and her maw changing expressions. She was truly a cute sight to behold. He would have to try again.

"Destiny, come onâ"we need to get going, sweetie..." he adds, nudging her with his wet nose. This action seems to work.

She slowly opens her eyes, looking back into his own. She stretches her forelegs first, and then her hind legs while yawning. Darfix can feel her softy tummy fur rubbing with his as she does so. "You looked so beautiful; I couldn't bear to wake you...but had remembered we need to get to Goldenrod Forest someday..." he chuckles, slowly pulling himself out from the areas he and her were interlocked.

Destiny smiles at his kind words, and rises to her forepaws as well. "I suppose we should...gosh, I cannot wait for us to get there so we can relax for awhile!" she replies, shaking her body in a recomposing manner while giggling softly.

Darfix snickers, watching her do so, "I wouldn't mind some relaxing as well..." he comments, but in the back of his mind, he was thinking, "Spending time, alone with youâ"what more could I ask?"

After a few shared licks, and nuzzles, the two of them continue on their way. Destiny smiles at her mate-to-be out of the corner of her eyes, and proceeds to wrap some of her tails around his own. This causes the Eevee to smile in reply, and shift the right side of his body closer to her left sideâ"pulling the two into body contact as well.

About an hour or so into their walk, they come across a stumpâ"and lying on the stump, was another Pokémon, fire type, Flareon! Darfix tilts his head a little bit, the sight of another Eevee form was rare, and a treat to him. "Hey, Dest, let's go say hi, ok?" he smiles happily.

"Well, if you insist," she replies, joining his side as the two of them pad up to the stranger on the stump.

As they draw closer, however, it becomes apparent that this creature was in a deep state of depression. His fur looked like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile, and he just looked flat out down...

Darfix frowns upon seeing this, and also takes note that the strange doesn't even seem to pick up their approach! It wasn't like he and Destiny were trying to sneak up on him!

"Hello there, Flareon," Darfix says, holding a half smile, "Might I ask, what seems to be the trouble?" he asks, tilting his head curiously. Destiny also tilts her head, but decides to leave the initial talking to Darfix, for the time being.

Without even turning his head, the male Flareon lets out a sigh, "...what interest does stranger have in my sorrows? Leave me be..." he replies in a voice that matched perfectly how he looked.

Darfix frowns, and attempts to speakâ"but is beaten to it. "Ohâ"forgive our intrusion friend, we justâ"would like to help out in any way we can, is all..." Destiny speaks softly, and in a friendly manner. She knew Darfix would do what he could to help out her own kind, so she figured to be nice to his kind as well.

Suddenly, the ears on the male perk upâ"and he slowly lifts his head, to turn in the direction of Destiny's voice, "â"Keilah? Is thatâ"you?" he asks, looking at Destiny and Darfix, seeming to have a hard time focusing his eye sight. "â"but, it can't be..." he adds to his question.

Destiny frowns, seeming to get an idea, perhaps what was the matter with this poor creature. "...I, noâ"sorry, I am not this Keilah you speak of...I am Destiny, and this here is Darfix...might I ask your name?" she asks, hoping that he might talk with them.

"...Destiny?" he asks, almost in a drunken state. "...butâ"you lookâ"and sound so much like myâ"Keilah..." he replies in a whimper, his eyes beginning to fill up with moisture. It was evident, that his tired eyes have been dampened in moisture for awhile...

Destiny's frown deepens, as she begins to realize that her theory might be wrong. Perhaps his Keilah didn't break his heartâ"perhaps, she had died?

Darfix also seems to be a bit concernedâ"he tries to picture himself in this Flareon's pawsâ"what if he had lost Destiny for some reason?

"...tell me, sir Flareonâ"what happened withâ"Keilah?" she asks, "Didâ"you two break up after falling in love?" she asks, hoping that this was the problemâ"she feared she was wrong, however.

The Flareon attempts to hold back his tears and emotional pain, "Iâ"I wish that was what happenedâ"at least then Iâ"could still see her..." he replies weakly, looking on the verge of bursting out in tears.

Destiny's biggest concern had come throughâ"his mate, or mate-to-be, had apparently died... She sighs, looking up at the sulking Flareon, "Is thereâ"anything we can do? Anything at all...I, couldn't live with myself if we left you in this condition..." she says, looking at Darfix after finishing.

Darfix nods, "Yeah, manâ"if there is anything we can do...I offer you Destiny's and my company...we could use another companion, andâ"well, maybe we can give you some comfortâ"it looks like you could use some friends right now..." he says considerately.

The male Flareon raises one of his fluffy forelegs, and wipes his eyes, giving a big sniffle. Darfix and Destiny both find it surprising to see this creature cryingâ"he looks a little older than Darfix, and his size made him look fairly intimidating, and yet, he was as timid and helpless as a Pichu baby without its mother.

"...you're offering me, companionship? Even though you two are probably off, looking for a place to raise tons of kits?" he asks, narrowing his eyes a little bit, perhaps in disbelief, "...I assume when the time comes, you two would get rid of me to suit your needs..." he adds, sounding as though he had been betrayed before.

Darfix's jaw drops! This Flareon DID have a point! If they took him along, h and Destiny would have little time for each other...was this, truly what he wanted?

Destiny's jaw drops as well, though her mind is in a slightly different area, "No! No, no, sir Flareonâ"we, we have no intentions of leaving you without your consent!" she replies, "â"we want you to stay with us, until it is your decision to leave...we aren't a couple who wishes to make and break friendships like a bad habit..." she frowns, "You're welcome to stay with us as long as you'd like..."

He quirks a brow for a second, sniffling once againâ"Destiny's voice, as well as her species made it easy for him to trust her. She did, after all, resemble Keilah quite extraordinarily. "...if that is your decision, missâ"then I humbly accept..." he says softly after a period of thought.

Darfix grits his teeth upon hearing this, but forces a smile, and nods, "Well, we'reâ"heading for Goldenrod Forest nowâ"but, if you'd like to stay here, we can cancel our tripâ"for now." He explains.

The male Flareon nods, "...we can walk, thatâ"is fineâ"I actually prefer itâ"this place brings back...to many...painful memories..." he says, looking down and cringing in thought.

Destiny sighs, and looks towards Darfix. She wants so badly to help this lonely Flareon outâ"but that would require asking him for details on what happened to Keilah...something both Darfix and Destiny were hesitant to do, in fear they might upset their new friend even more...
