Crossing leaves (Arbor day contest 2010) by vaddie

Story Notes:

made for Arbor Day Contest 2010This is my first attempt on a pokefic, I've been here for some while watching and reading and when I saw the new contest I figured I should try. I tried my best to not make the pokemon talking "our english" but instead their names as we are used to, hopefully I wrote the story good enough to people to understand the athmosphere to understand what they mean.

Crossing the leaves

It was early morning, the refreshing spring rain that had fallen during the night made the forest sparkle as it was covered in diamonds, diamonds of all colors, as the sun rose over the horizon. The day looked to be perfect, at least for his view in the shelter under the tree trunk. He had searched it out during the night for a safe and as dry as possible place to stay, the heavy rain last night had surprised him. He sighed while he closed his eyes, preparing to stretch out the last sleepiness that was in him, making a note to himself yet again that he should be more aware about the surroundings while he ate, even though it was so good to taste fresh leaves now as the winter was past He shivered at the thought of winter; this year especially had been a real test to him, all alone, cold, not to mention the difficulties to find food. He shaked off the memories of all the times he had almost been caught by trainers who he had attempted to steal food from while they slept. But he had made it, and all the battles and hardships had made him stronger. A loud growl came from his stomach. And hungry it seemed. He stood up on all four, with a great yawn he stretched as long as he was from the leaf on the top of his head to his small tail. Shaking off the morning dew from the leaf sprouts he went off into the forest looking for some breakfast.

Bayleef looked up from the bush he was eating from as a gentle breeze went past him, a smile came over his face as he watched as what must be this year newly hatched Hoppip's that helplessly drove with it bumping into each other and every tree, not knowing yet how to keep ground. The spring was a wonderful time, a time where new life came back and nature blessed one with the tastiest leafs and grass. Speaking of which he was about to get full, one last mouthful and then off to some water, after all the rain last night it was bound to be some puddles somewhere.

Making his way through the wilderness in search of something to drink he couldn't not notice all the other signs of that spring certainly had arrived, making the good mood from this morning turn darker and darker. The bellessom's dancing, paras' tending each other's mushrooms , pidgeots trying to build the best nest... it looked as where ever in the forest he turned he saw couples or ones trying to prove themselves for one. Maybe the field would be more inviting for him again, it was where he use to live after all, the forest had been a mere shelter during the winters time. He hadn't really planning to head out there just yet... next week maybe when the grass would have had time to grow a little extra? Towering over the grass in an open field wasn't exactly the smartest idea to try to avoid getting caught trainers. He snapped angrily after two rattatas playing around his feet. This was really getting on his nerves. He glared after the rattatas and tramped past some oddish and glooms playing hide and seek. His new grown anger had made him forget his thirst and become unaware of his surroundings, foolishly he slipped on some wet pebbles and stumbled into some bushes... head on.

Way too quickly he got up, pretending he had planned on doing that fall, attempting to not fully humiliate himself. He had stumbled into a small glade, and there trying to reach the new leaf sprouts on the pecha berry tree was the most beautiful bayleef he had seen. Her leafs around her neck quivered as she stretched her whole body upwards against the tree. Her skin was lighter than his own and her razor leaf was... perfect. Slowly he walked towards her, she was so determined to get the sprouts she didn't notice him. He smiled as he saw even her tail tried to stretch upwards, as it would help, her problem was that her vines where just a tad too short. He walked up beside her "leef?". She jumped up, looking angrily while she eyed him. He tried again, "leef? .. bayleef?". She stomped with her front feet, clearly not interested to talk and this tree was hers. Bayleaf hold in a little laugh, though he couldn't hold back the smile. She pulled down her vines now, rising her razor leaf a tad showing she was ready to battle for that tree. Slowly he walked towards her and the tree, she stomped with her front feet again "BAY!". Bayleef shaked and lowered his head. She eyed him suspiciously. He lied down next to the tree, looked up to her "bayleaf... bayleeef"" showing her that she could use him for the missing few inches she lacked. She smiled "bay bay!", and wasn't waiting for a second invite. Eagerly she put both her front feet on his back reaching up to the sprouts with her vines. Bayleef smiled with his eyes closed when he felt her weight on top of him, his smile grew wider as he took a little sneak peak at her place of sweetness while she stood there. A crack was heard and she stumbled a little backwards as she finally managed to break off a small branch and bring it down. Hungrily she began to eat the small sprouts, bayleef stood up watching her, he approached her slowly again not wanting to disturb her in her eating. He wasn't too successful, as she stopped up and looked at him. She took up the branch holding it up towards him, wanting to share "ehleafh?" Bayleef stood there for a second or so, then he walked past the branch and lowered his head against hers, leaning his razor leaf against hers. She blushed slightly as her eyes grew bigger, dropping the branch. "bayleef?" "leeef", she walked up to him and stretched her head and razor leaf up against his.

Suddenly all air went out of bayleef's lungs and he found himself gasping for it, his body aching of the sudden impact both by that someone and the tree trunk he now lay up against. The bark on the right side cracking, in pain and disoriented because of something he looked around. A huge meganium frizzled his petal leaves against him, snorting and turned his attention to the whimpering girl next to him. Bayleef shaked his head, that bastard must have tackled him and the dizziness most come from his aroma leaves, he closed his eyes as he attempted to stand up, his stomach and back aching. The great meganium stretched his vines towards the small bayleef, she tried to walk backwards but the aroma scent from maganium's petals made her dazed and almost non-resistant. Bayleef growled, and charged towards the meganium. Meganium thinking he had simply won with that tackle was taken with surprise as Bayleef tackled him into his stomach, it didn't really hurt but the surprise caught him so that he fell over on the side, showing his every intention with the girl. She snapped out from the daze and ran as fast as she could away from the glade. Bayleef lowered his head, stretching out his razor leaf, the meganium stood up and glared towards him, bayleaf stomped his feet to the ground and as soon the meganium stood up properly he waved his leaf into a razor leaf attacked against the meganium.

The meganium roared and set up a reflect wall that made him avoid bayleef's attack. Meganium started once again to charge against bayleef, instead of meeting him bayleef charged towards him and ran to his right. Bayleef stumbled as he turned, the scent from meganium made him lazy. He must keep distance. Meganium turned against him again, this time trying to reach him with his vines. Bayleef frisked up his own leafs getting back into battle mood and ran away from the veins, using his razor leaf attack trying to hit either the veins or meganium, but each leaf he aimed towards the the meganium was reflected. Bayleef was running back and forth now, sideways, as he did so he noticed the sun now was filling the glade, he blinked as he got an idea. Meganium snarled again as his veins got cut by bayleaf's razor leafs, angrily he stomped his feet to the ground again, and sent up poison powder. Bayleef held his breath, he need a little more time, though now that he was unable to send off more razor leaf, because of the task at hand, it was more difficult to avoid the vines. Vines snapped at his feet and made him stumble forwards, gasping for air. Bayleef coughed and gagged as the poison came down his lungs. Shaking he stood up again, disoriented because of the pain and the poison spreading quickly throughout his body.

Meganium roared in triumph as he finally grabbed bayleef by his feet, dragging him towards him. Bayleef struggled, using his claws to slow him down, he just needed a little more time... Bayleef smelled the aroma of meganium; he was getting closer now, a shot of pain from the poison made bayleef shiver. "BAAAAAAAY!", bayleef opened his eyes, it was the girl from before, he could see her head looking at him from behind a tree, tears in her eyes, or at least he thought so the poison made it all kind of blurry. Beyleef banged his head to the ground to get focus again, and frisked up his leaves getting himself the last energy he needed to focus. The calming scent from meganium was almost overwhelming now, bayleef looked up, his rival towered above him. The vines tightened around his feet as meganium walked backwards, making himself ready to finish it off with a body slam. Bayleef couldn't really see anything but shadows and light now, though he felt he was almost ready. Meganium charged and jumped. With the female bayleef's screams ringing in his ears, bayleef focused on the shadow forming above him, and with his last focus he set off his now fully charged solar beam towards it.

Pain flared up in Bayleef, the meganium had missed because of the blinding light and landed (only) on bayleef's back foot. Beyleef coughed as he dragged himself up, meganium lay on the ground next to him, half blind and burned by the solar beam. Bayleef halted towards him, "BAYLEEF!" he stood over meganium with his razor leaf ready. Meganium bowed his head and pulled backwards, Bayleef tramped with his right foot "BAY-leef!... bay bay baaay", the rival turned knowing he was beat and walked from the glade, not looking back.

Bayleef swinging from side to side, the poison still in effect. He still standing there in victory pose, as she walks happily and grateful towards him, from her hiding, very impressed of his battling. Then in front of her own eyes she watches him gasp for air and fall over. "Leeeeeeeeeeef!" running over she sees what condition he is in. She lowers her head down and bumps it on his, but he seem to be in too much pain than to be able to answer her sign of affection. "Bayleef...." She lies down next to him resting her head on his back, slowly bayleef feel the poison withdrew from his body and he could smell a most wonderful smell. She was nursing him. Flower petals and leaves surrounded them, bayleef lifted his head looking down on her lying next to him with her eyes closed. She was so beautiful worth every crushed bone in his body and more. He tilted his head, "bayleef?" she looked up to him and smiled, waging her tail. Smiling as she stood up she motioned him to try to get up as well. With the pleasant aroma around him, and the beautiful sight in front of him he had completely forgotten about his hind leg being crushed by meganium's body slam, he stood up to quickly and stood for some painful seconds as the leg gave after. Ashamed he looked away from her, "leef..." "...bayleef". He let out a small breath as he felt her vines move up and down his body searching after a place to grab hold without hurting, though some areas she moved over must have been far away from the "grabbing hold " idea... though he didn't bothered too much about that, it felt good and a little extra wasn't bad. He felt her vines tighten gently around him, "bayleef". He nodded and tried to stand up again, not using his crushed foot this time. With her to support him both with her body and her vines he followed her lead. Right past the glade he heard a welcoming sound; flowing water. She guided him to a soft spot by the river bend, the grass looked like someone had been using it as a bed, maybe it was she who slept here...? Maybe this was her home? Lying down again he could lean out his head and drink the fresh water, finally. This day seem to be perfect in the end after all, new fresh grass, cold fresh water and the most beautiful girl he had met now lying next to him. Again she had started her aromatherapy, "bay bayleef?" he said bowing his head towards her, she smiled "bayleeef" and lifted her head once more up to his. Finally their foreheads met and their razor leaves crossing each other. This spring will be perfect.
Chapter End Notes:And that was my first pokefic, I hoped you liked it ^^ I felt it was enough ending it that way, wandring further into the romance love making scenes would have given the story a whole other feeling about it than it is now, more... I don't know how to explain xD erm if you wondered here is the move set to the pokemons. I know the Meganium seem to use tackle, though just imagne it as more of a push but feels like a tackle to bayleef because of the size difference.
Main pkmn moveset:
Bayleaf: tackle, solarbeam, razor leaf, agility.
Maganium: Reflect, body slam, vine whip, poison powder.
Female Beyleaf: aromatherapy, vine whip, agility, magical leaves
