Wolf's Vacation by boss_snikrot

Story Notes:

"This is just something I wanted to write" echoes the point of Vacation quite well. Some things might carry over into Hunt, but I'm going to leave this as more of a Chronicles style story. I'm happy to take some suggestions as well, so if there's something you want to see don't hesitate to bring it up when you comment. (keeping in mind I won't write things like rape, vore, scat, water sports)

The Beast of Cerulean City

Wolf groaned into his pillow, having been awoken by his phone as it rang on the bedside table. He fumbled around with one hand looking for the phone, finally getting it in his hand and pressing it to his ear. Feeling around with his thumb, he hit the answer button and hoped that he didn't sound too bad.

"Hello?" he muttered, turning his head so that his voice wasn't completely muffled by the pillow.

"Hello, is this Wolf O'kai?" a female voice came from the phone. "This is Misty, gym leader of Cerulean City. I need some help from a powerful trainer, and I know you just became an Elite."

"Cerulean City? In Kanto?" Wolf asked sleepily, wondering if he'd misheard her in his sleep deprived state. "How come you didn't call one of the Elites from Kanto or Johto?"

"I tried them, but they're all in the Oblivia region for some reason that they wouldn't tell me." Now Misty sounded annoyed, though Wolf wasn't in the mood to apologize, having been awoken before he would have liked. "Lance told me that you would be able to teleport here and help me."

"Lance said that." Wolf repeated, his feeling of irritation growing. He stayed silent for a few seconds before sighing, pushing himself up onto his elbows. "Alright, I'll be there as soon as possible."

"Thanks Wolf, I really appreciate this!" Misty said, relief in her voice before she hung up. Wolf stared at the phone for a few seconds, noting the time. 3:17am. Groaning again, he looked over at Lucky and gently shook her awake.

The sky was still quite dark as Wolf, Lucky and Serenity materialised in the middle of a panicking throng of people, barely able to keep their balance due to the racing people and what Wolf suspected were tremors. Almost continuously being jostled by bodies, it was hard to tell. Looking through the crowd, he could see that at least one person was keeping a level head, though the red haired girl couldn't seem to pass her confidence onto the crowd. She looked over, seeing Wolf and waving him over.

"Wolf!" she cried as he approached with his pokemon. "Thanks for coming! I've got absolutely no control over this, though I think you can see that."

"True." Wolf replied, raising his voice to be heard over the crowd. "Anyway, what's this about Misty?" He held his arms away from his body to try and keep his balance on the heaving ground, managing to make it over to the gym leader without tripping. Lucky made her way cautiously behind him, while Serenity used her psychic powers to levitate and avoid the worst of the quakes.

"I'm not entirely sure, just that an earthquake in Cerulean is pretty much unheard of." She replied, gazing over to where her pokemon were trying their best to restore some order. It was a nigh impossible task, but they were still trying regardless. "The only clue I have is a story that's been circulating around town a few days. Someone claims to have seen a pokemon entering the cave on the opposite side of the river, one that they couldn't identify. Maybe that would be the best place to start." Wolf nodded, following her gesture to where he could see the mountain side across the river. He could just pick out the entrance to the cave, a pitch black opening dimly cast into view by the flickering street lights.

"Might as well, if that's all we've got on this." Wolf said, motioning to the Gardevoir next to him. Serenity grabbed both his and Lucky's wrists, teleporting them into the mouth of the cave. Fishing out the small flashlight he'd put in his pocket before they had left Fortree, Wolf led the way into the shaking cave.

Deep inside Cerulean Cave, a pokemon stirred from her sleep as the earthquakes grew slowly more intense. Covering her head with her hands, she screwed her eyes shut against the constant shaking and sounds of rocks falling. Finally she couldn't take it anymore, getting unsteadily to her feet and glaring around.

"Hey!" she yelled. "Some of us are trying to sleep!"

***

"Did you hear that?" Wolf asked, turning to glance at both Lucky and Serenity as they descended further into the cave. He saw them both nod slowly in the tiny light of the torch, their faces looking grim. None of them had been able to make out the words, though it was a fair bet that the source of the noise might uncover some answers. Reaching a fork in the tunnel, Wolf led the way down the left fork, following the shout.

They continued along that path for a couple of minutes before they entered a large cavern, softly lit by an underground lake. Wolf looked around, struck by not only the sudden lack of pokemon around, but a strange sense of déj vu.

"Does this place seem familiar to you girls?" he asked, stopping to look over his shoulder at the Lucario and the Gardevoir again. Both had thoughtful looks on their faces as they considered his question.

"Now that you mention it, it does feel like we've been here before." Lucky said, frowning.

"I don't remember ever coming here with you Wolf." Serenity replied, giving Wolf a slightly hurt stare. "But I was with you when you went to Kanto. How come Lucky knows it and I don't?" Wolf made to reply before something hurtled into him, knocking him to the ground hard. He opened his eyes to see Lucky trying to keep Serenity from him over the shoulder of a familiar face.

"Wolf! Did you come to see me?" Mewtwo cried happily as he stared up at her, trying to ignore the pain of slamming into the hard ground. He saw Lucky trying to give Serenity a quick explanation, keeping the Gardevoir from attacking Mewtwo.

"Well, I would have if I'd know where you were." Wolf replied, hoping that the psychic pokemon would get off him. "Mew just brought us here and sent us back. She wasn't exactly full of details." Mewtwo looked down at him mournfully.

"Really?" she asked cautiously, her eyes glowing a soft purple as she used her psychic power to check his story. After a few seconds she seemed satisfied with his story. "I'm still happy to see you, even if you didn't come here to see me. But why did you come?"

"I'm here about the earthquakes." He replied. "The people in Cerulean City aren't exactly happy about them, so they asked me to investigate." Mewtwo scowled.

"I know all about those." She said. "I haven't been able to get any sleep because of them!"

"So you can help us stop them?" Wolf asked hopefully. "That would be great, since I've really got no idea what I'm doing at the moment." Mewtwo nodded, getting up and helping him to his feet as well. "Then let's get this over with. You're not the only one missing sleep over this."

***

The party continued further into the cave, now led by Mewtwo as the descended ever further underground. Wolf could feel the pressure beginning to increase as they went down, the dim light of his torch having been switched off since it had become just about useless in the depths. Their sight was adjusting to the gloom though, allowing them some vision.

"How much further do you think it is?" he asked, Mewtwo glancing over her shoulder at his question.

"We should be getting close." She replied, her answer further reinforced by a much stronger tremor. All four of them placed a hand on the nearby wall, waiting until the tremor passed before they continued. Mewtwo's guess was proven correct a mere handful of seconds later as they emerged into a much larger cavern, dimly lit by a single Magmortar. The pokemon looked in pretty bad shape, but its plight was unnoticed by the other pokemon in the cavern.

On the far side, Wolf watched as a pair of Onix and a Steelix repeatedly smashed their tails into the cavern wall. With each blow a tremor shook them, and Wolf glared over at them as they kept causing earthquakes.

"Hey!" Wolf yelled, drawing their attention for the first time. "What the hell are you doing?! Some of us are trying to sleep, and we don't need some jackass pokemon causing a disaster and keeping us up!" Steelix slithered away from the wall, flanked by his cronies.

"We're planning on taking back the earth from you humans by destroying your cities." He replied, the pair of Onix nodding their agreement. "Nothing good has come from sharing it with you humans anyway, so why should your kind even exist?"

"What are you talking about?!" Lucky retorted. "There's nothing wrong with humans, you idiot. They're not trying to kill you, so what you're doing is wrong!" Steelix snorted, rearing up.

"We will never see eye to eye, but I'm afraid that I can't let any of you live now." He replied, launching himself at them. Without thinking Wolf transformed into his Lucario form, swiftly using force palm to block the attack.

"Lucky, Serenity, you two are together!" he yelled over his shoulder. "Mewtwo, back me up!" She squeaked in shock even as Wolf's pokemon peeled off to engage the Onix.

"Are you sure?" she yelped, even as Steelix drew back for another assault. Not wanting to give him the chance, Wolf leapt forward to launch another force palm against it.

"There's no time for doubt Mewtwo!" he yelled back, his paw narrowly missing his target. Steelix's tail followed his descent, slamming into the ground just behind him and sending him flying into the wall. Mewtwo looked worriedly at where Lucky and Serenity were holding their own against the two Onix, the Gardevoir using her psychic powers to keep them from mounting an effective attack while Lucky pummelled them with her fighting moves. She looked back to where Wolf was struggling to escape from the steel pokemon's attacks, and began to focus her powers.

Wolf growled as he made yet another narrow escape from the bludgeoning tail of his foe. He had already been hit into the wall once, and it was an experience he had no wish to repeat. Dodging to the left to get away from another strike, Wolf missed a rock in the gloom and tripped, falling heavily to the ground. He looked up only to see the metal tail descending towards him, the Lucario bracing himself for the impact since he had no chance to dodge it. Eyes closed, he waited for pain that never came. After a few seconds he opened his eyes, seeing the tail no more than two metres above him being held back by Mewtwo's psychic ability. He spared a quick glance at her, noting with surprise that she looked as though it was a struggle to do so. He didn't think about it for a second longer, launching himself at Steelix and landing a devastating force palm on its chin. Groaning, it slammed into the far wall and landed in a heap. To be sure of victory, Wolf launched a single aura sphere into the stirring pokemon and knocked it out thoroughly.

"Serenity, can you get them out of here?" Wolf panted, watching as the Lucario and the Gardevoir approached him. She nodded, turning back to gather up the fallen pokemon. Mewtwo watched as Lucky joined Wolf, the trainer reverting back to his human form before her eyes. Sensing her stare, Wolf and Lucky turned to look at her.

"I didn't know you could turn into a pokemon Wolf." Mewtwo said, her tone uncertain. Wolf simply shrugged, figuring he could explain it later.

"It's a long story." He said dryly. "Mewtwo, I'll admit that I thought you'd be much stronger since you were cloned from Mew. You didn't seem that strong, are you alright?" Mewtwo gazed at the ground, feeling somewhat ashamed.

"It's been so long since I've used my powers, I guess I'm just a little rusty." She replied, trying to keep disappointment out of her voice. Wolf nodded sagely, moving to hold her in one arm while Lucky slid into the other.

"I thought that might be the case." He said, trying to comfort her. "Anyway, since the whole earthquake thing is finished with we'll get out of here once Serenity gets back."

The people of Cerulean City had calmed down and gone home by the time Wolf and the pokemon had left the cave, the trainer deciding to stay the rest of the night at the pokemon centre instead of just going home. A quick check up revealed that all his pokemon and Mewtwo needed was a few hours sleep to recover, so Wolf insisted they do so after a few minutes unwinding.

It was eleven o'clock by the time Wolf and the pokemon woke up again, having felt much better from the sleep. He led the trio of pokemon to a table and sorted out their breakfast before ordering his own, heading back to where they were all eating and taking amongst themselves. They looked up as he approached, the trainer staring at Mewtwo intently as he sat down.

"I've been thinking." He started, meeting her purple eyes evenly. "Mewtwo, why don't you stay with us?" She put one hand over her mouth, eyes widening slightly at the suggestion. "I mean, we could help you to bring your strength back up to speed, and I'm sure we're better company than spending all your time in some cave..." he saw her stare, worried that he might have said something wrong. "I mean, only if you really want to..."

"Do you really mean that?" she asked quietly. He nodded, watching her face turn from shock to excitement. "I'd love to!" Wolf couldn't stop her from dashing around the table to catch him in a big hug, simply grinning and letting her stay happy.

"You're just a big softie, aren't you Wolf?" Serenity asked, one eyebrow raised. Wolf just laughed, happy that Mewtwo was happy.
Chapter End Notes:ZOMG WOLF HAS MEWTWO!!!

Reason is, that any pokemon Wolf has in his team is one that I've raised or currently have. Mewtwo, along with Zapdos, are ones I had in my team waaaay back when I played Yellow version.

You'll also note that I've made it so that Mewtwo is not a quick fix to any problem, and is in actual fact weaker than Serenity at this point in the story. This is likely to change, given that Mewtwo will probably feel the need to prove herself a worthy addition to the team.

I'll probably only write one more chapter for Vacation, then get started on Hunt. It could be a while though, since I'm pretty into White at the moment and I'd like to write another (FA exclusive) story at the same time. We'll see what happens
