Chapter 2: Power of Legendary Proportions

In this world, there are forces humans should not tamper with. Gene splicing, reanimation, rapid healing, cloning, just to name a few.

In our vendetta to perfection, we've committed heinous acts that would be considered ta-bu, or sins against god.

If god wanted us humans to have more power, or more knowledge, would he not give it to us? There is no need to add upon gods work, for he is the greatest artist.

Knowing this, we humans still walk the path un-walked. Committing sin with every step toward so called perfection. Instead of living our lives the way god intended. We try to play god, losing ourselves in the process. Forever damning us to hell.

Why is Mew so happy? I thought questioning a pokemon's background would make them upset. I basically called her a liar, and she just glides along like a little girl heading to the candy shop. She's probably holding back all her rage right now.

Mew and I head deeper into Eterna Forrest. She hovers along side me as I take my time, walking carefully through bushes and weeds, watching for any protruding tree roots, as I climb a steep hill.

"Lio, are we there yet?" Mew asks, lowering her ears in boredom.

"Yeah it's just over this hill."

We just left the house a few minutes ago, she can't be bored already...

Sunlight shines brightly in the area ahead, we finally reach the top of the hill. A grassy clearing, fallen trees and large rocks scattered about. The perfect pokemon testing grounds. Just far enough to prevent any damage to my house.

"Well, this is the place."

Mew looks around, examining the area excitedly, that's until she got a go look of the place. "It's just a clearing... There's nothing here but a bunch of boulders and dead trees." Mew complains, disappointed with the dull destination.

"Maybe to the naked eye! But what I see is a legendary pokemon testing facility."

"I don't know about this..." Mew looks to the ground, bowing her head. Allowing boredom to take over.

"Hey cheer up, its not as boring as it looks." I say reassuringly.

"I'm still a bit lost. Why did we come out here for?" Mew asks.

"Here look." I crouch down near one of the many fallen trees, it's bark rotting and pealing, branches mostly snapped. Mew curiously peers over my shoulder, wondering what I have planned for her.

"You see this tree? A normal psychic pokemon would have a hard time moving it. But a legendary..." I pause waiting for her to catch on.

"Yes, I get it. You want me to lift it." Mew sighs...

"No. I want you to lift all of them. All at once."

"All? But what does-"

"-If you can't that's fine, a true legendary would have answered more enthused. A true legendary would say-"

"-I'll lift them all and the boulders too, right?" She says, finishing his sentence.

"Y-yes. How did?"

"Mind reading. Its common for a psychic pokemon. But mind reading alone isn't going to prove I'm a legendary pokemon, is it?" She asks, already knowing my answer.

"It is an amazing ability... L-let's just stick with lifting. If you can lift the boulders and fallen trees here, I'll believe everything. Arceus being real, and you being a legendary pokemon." I explain, motioning for her to get started.

"Such an easy game. This is going to be so much fun!" Mew is beyond sure she can do it. However, I don't share that belief. Maybe I should talk her out of it? It's worth a shot, I guess.

"I suggest you give up, there's no way your small body can muster up enough psychic power to lift anything here." I explain. "But if your willing to continue, I'm not going to be responsible if you get yourself hurt." I say, anxiously waiting for her to fail my challenge.

"I'll be fine, I've lifted things tons heavier than this... This one time in Johto I-"

"Just try it already!" I demand, growing impatient.

"You don't have to be such a grumpy head." Mew rolls her eyes, turning toward her challenge. I move out of the way, giving her room to work. She nods, focusing her energy on the boulders and trees.

Maybe I'm taking this too far. If she gets hurt because of this it'll be all my fault. I can't let this go on. "Mew just stop. There's no... no...."

The objects take on her ominous pink glow, floating slowly into the air as if they weighed nothing.

"N-no way! She's really doing it!"

I stand there dumbfound, mouth quickly hanging in amazement, rubbing my eyes to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

"I'm just warming up." Mew says calmly. Brow furrowing, eyes shut, quickly raising her small arms above her head, her body starts trembling, her signature glow surrounding her.

Every rock and tree in her psychic grasp starts rocketing to the sky like a series of missiles. The ground starts shaking.

I break her concentration yelling... "Whoa, whoa! What are you doing!?" I almost lose balance as the ground continues it's vibrations, lowering my stance to prevent myself from falling.

"You weren't impressed!" Mew crosses her arms, glaring at me.

"Y-yes I was!" I hesitantly yell back, ground no longer shaking below me.

"Nuh uh, you though it was impressive for a high level psychic to make them float, but not good enough to prove I was legendary." Mew says, now hoovering eye level with me.

"What? I didn't say that." I explain.

"True. You didn't say it, you were thinking it... And I passed your test, so there!" Mew says, teasing me. She begins flying around the now empty clearing, dancing victoriously threw the air, a large smile planted on her face.

'Great, not only can she lift and throw things thousands of times her weight, she can also read my thoughts like a book...' I say mentally.

"Yup!" Mew answers again, still dancing in the air.

"Would you stop that?!" I yell, shaking my fist in anger.

"Why?" She asks, stopping her joyous flight, tilting her head cutely.

"It's an invasion of my privacy, not to mention dangerous. Last thing I want is to accidentally upset you with what I'm thinking." I explain.

"Even if you did upset me, I wouldn't hurt you. But if that's the way you feel, I'll just stick to mind link rather than reading your mind."

"Mind link? Isn't that the same as mind reading?" I ask.

"It is, but mind link is different from mind reading because it's selective. Using it, I can only read what you want me to." Mew explains.

"Why use mind anything, if we can just talk like this?"

"Well, we can still talk. Mind link is better for long distance, or when we want to keep our conversation private." Mew explains.

"So it's like a phone in your head that no one can hear, exept the ones having the conversation. Thats one amazing ability."

"Thank you!" Mew giggles.

All this mind link talk almost made me forget. She passed my test with flying colors. Or flying boulders and trees in this case. Who'd of thought this little pink thing would be a legendary pokemon?

"That was pretty fun!" Mew says, getting my attention.

"You think throwing boulders and trees into orbit is fun?" I ask.

"It is! We should do stuf like this everyday." Mew giggles like a toddler, flying playfully around me.

She can't be serious. I thought all legendary pokemon were supposed to be snobby or dead serious all the time. Not like Mew's care free, 'let's have some fun' attitude.

If only I were a trainer... having Mew on my team would make me unbeatable. Trainers, gyms, tournaments. I'd win no sweat. The only problem is I'd have to have a super powerful pokemon just to catch her... That's how it works right? It kinda seems like she would join me even if I don't battle her.

"Hey Mew, Since your a legendary pokemon, doesn't that mean lots of people are out to capture you?" I ask out of curiosity.

"I haven't really given it much thought. But now that you mention it, it would be a good idea to stay hidden from other humans. I wouldn't want to cause any unnecessary fighting." Mew continues floating around me.

"Where are you going to hide? I mean, it's not like you can watch over me while hiding from anyone comes around."

Mew opens her mouth preparing to answer, a load growl from her stomach catches her attention.

"Can we play the Q and A game later? I'm getting hungry..." Mew complains, holding her belly, lightly making circles with her paws.

"Your not going to go looking for food here in the forest are you?" I ask.

"How else am I going to eat silly..." Mew answers.

"Uh..." Well I can't just let her go hunting for food like a wild pokemon, although she is technically wild. Mew begins floating away. I'm probably gonna regret saying this later but... "Wait... Let's head back to my place. I'm sure we can find a place for you to stay later. and I'll fix you something nice to eat when we get there."

"Oh, thank you Lio! Arceus was right, you are kind hearted!" Mew giggles, happy she doesn't have to go picking berries or fishing for food for a change. She zips into the forest toward my house. I follow her, walking downhill from the clearing, through bushes, watching for protruding tree roots.

Lio and Mew reach the bottom of the hill, continuing their walk to Lio's house. As Lio walks, he becomes lost in thought, eyes partly closed looking down.

I still don't get it. Why does Arceus have Mew watching over me... According to mew he talks quite highly of me. But that's not reason to have a legendary pokemon watch over me is it?

I hope this isn't a 'Noah's Ark' type situation. Gathering all species of pokemon together onto a large boat, saving them from a watery grave and leaving the rest of the world to drown... I don't want the world to end!

Mew happily hovers up to Lio's face, large baby-blue eyes staring into his. "Lio, What do you do for a living?" She asks. Lio, still lost in thought, takes a few seconds to answer. "Hum? Oh, you asked what I do?"

Mew closes her eyes, nodding happily.

"Well, I'm a computer tech for hire. I fix problems with computers and other devices, and I write electronics' software." I explain. Mew backs up, brow furrowing.

"What's electro nick's soft wire?"

"It's pronounced 'electronic software', they're the written procedures or rules pertaining to the operation of electronic devices." I correct her, explaining it's meaning.

"I'm sorry I asked. That sounds so boring!"

I start laughing. "It is. That's why people hire me to deal with it." I explain.

"The good thing about my job is, no matter how many days I take off, there is always work to come back to. Operating systems break down all the time, and most people don't know how to fix them." I love talking about my job.

We arrive back at my house. Thankfully just the way I left it. My roof still stands, no broken windows, no busted down front door. With a sigh of relief, I walk over to my wall mounted mailbox. Opening it's lid, I reach in pulling out its contents.

Mew curiously looks over my shoulder, as I look over the three letters in hand. Junk... Junk... Hum? This ones for dad. Its from his company. Guess I'll mail it out to him when I go shopping later. As for the junk... garbage!

We head into my house. Mew closes and locks the door behind us.

I thank her, walking into the kitchen while separating dad's letter from the junk, throwing the junk in the kitchen garbage.

"Those looked important, why did you throw them in the trash?" Mew asks, concerned.

"It's just junk mail. An advertisement, and a credit account subscription form. There is no need to hang onto those." I wanted to say mind your business. I mean, she is a little too curious.

"So junk mail is not important. I think I get it." She says, flying past me and into the kitchen.

After throwing away the junk mail, I put dad's letter on the coffee table in the living room. Turning my attention to Mew.

"Hey mew, you can make yourself at home until we find a better place for you to... What are you doing?" I ask, just noticing shes been flying in and out the kitchen since we stopped talking.

"I'm trying to make myself at home. It's not much of a home unless I know where everything is."

"That's cool I guess, but you should get some food in your system before you starve yourself. It's going to take a while to find a good place to hide you." I explain.

"Hide me? I don't need a hiding place silly. Watch." Mew giggles, a clear mist surrounds her, her form vanishing behind it. She waves bye as she vanishes completely from sight.

"Whoa, did she teleport!"

"No silly! I'm still here, I just cloaked myself." Mew's voice echos through the room.

"This power allows me to hide anytime I need to. So don't worry about a hiding place. Everywhere is my hiding place!" Mew says reassuringly. Lio, astounded by this new development, waves his hands through the air, trying to figure out where Mew could be.

"That's amazing. I really can't tell where you are." I say, still stunned with how well hidden she is.

"And if you can't tell, neither can any one else."

That's great. At least now I don't have to hide her. It's not like I was expecting any company anyway.

Mew's stomach growls once again. She flys back into the kitchen waving me over.

"I thought you said you'd find me something to eat..." She says, making the cutest sad face.

"Alright, I'm coming. You don't have to get all sad on me." I walk into the kitchen with Mew. She hovers around slowly, watching my every move. Waiting in anticipation for the food I'd promised her.

It's still hard to believe, just an hour or so ago I was in bed hoping for a pokemon team, and now I've got a legendary pokemon watching over me. My life cant get any weirder than this!
