Chapter 8: How can I show you?
The week seems to have come and have gone since we started our brutal training with each other. Krystal was packing her things into her backpack while Sasha and I finished cleaning the room before we left. Once we were finished she and I played 'paper rock scissor' which I kept winning of course and laugh every time we made a hand sign for the game she kept playing paper.
She'd remain distant from me during the training even though we were together so I try to spend as much time as possible with her, wanting to know her on a personal note. Who knows we may become good friends with each other.
"Are you to love birds finished we need to keep moving probably to someplace much quieter than this one." She said while finish packing her things.
"Sure I am, but are you ready to quit Sasha?" I asked knowing that it was going to annoy her.
She just looked the other way with her nose in the air and gave a quick huff. I shook my head at the sight and looked toward Krystal with a shrug. Krystal giggled at us while putting her back pack on and heading to the front door, and then she bent down and petting Sasha on the head. They'd become pretty close friends with each other within the week of training.
As we all headed out the door I was thinking about the last week of hell Krystal had put Sasha and me through. Even though in the long run we'll operate better as a team, she's quite the strategist when it came to taking us both on at the same time. To see someone so small maneuver around so well with a frozen foot and use it as a weapon is beyond me. At one point during our training I wanted to quit because it seems like an impossible task to beat someone like that, but I notice that she has a weakness...which was loud noises. During some of our training I exploited very privately so she wouldn't catch on to what I was doing. In some cases it worked, but often ended with me flat on my butt...
When Krystal closed the door my attention snapped back to her and Sasha, who still was upset from before. I knew she'll come around sooner or later, but I'm not going to give her the satisfaction of an apology for playing a game and winning. 'Maybe I should...nah.' My mind was telling me I should but my pride wasn't going to allow me to do so.
We walked down the hallway with the two girls leading, I following behind them with a smile on my face. I was almost as happy as I could be at this point in my life, as long as I was next to Krystal it didn't matter if I didn't find my past. Atleast that's what I to feel, but something inside me wasn't going to allow that.
If only the man in my reflection would stop tormenting me, I knew I couldn't truly be happy until I get to the bottom of this. I placed a hand on my head as we started to walk down the first flight of steps as I my mind kept racing over the thought. I know as long as I stay Krystal the answers would come to me, she seems to attract the attention of people who are just plain strange...myself included.
"So you have any places in mind that you wanna go to Krystal?" I said as we reached the bottom of the stairwell and heading towards the receptionists.
Krystal placed her hand into backpack and pulled out the key and handed it to the woman. The woman smiled back saying, "Thank you I hope you enjoyed your stay here in our luxury hotel please come again."
"Umm...sure thanks whatever...come on you two lets go." Krystal said while rolling her eyes and walking away.
"Wow that was rude. Anyway my previous unanswered question from before still stands."
"First of all it wasn't, and to answer your question we're going to Blackthorn City." she said with a determined voice.
We reached the front door and headed out into the city where the sun was shining down brightly, greeting us from the dim lit building. Both Krystal and Sasha took a deep breath welcoming in the new day; I on the other hand covered my eyes and hissed at it.
We walked to the edge of the city before seeing a sign with arrows pointing left and right saying 'Golden Rod this way and route 35 is that way.' We all stared at the arrows then to the road, I took a sigh as I didn't want to walk the road.
"If only I were human again my legs wouldn't be so short for these long trips!" I said trying to make an obvious plea to be returned into my ball.
"Nope fat ass you're going to walk just like everyone else and for that comment you're going to have to play guard for the day."
"What you talkin about guard, you don't need a guard you're the best fighter in the world as far I as I know."
She reached up and punched me in the arm and said, "I know I am you nut, no what I meant was that you're going to guard us from wild Pokémon that may attack us along the way."
"Oh wow that very lame of you..." I said now with a very annoy tone. "Why can't the new girl do it?"
"You just answered your own question, because she's a girl and you're a guy, and I'm the leader and I say so!" She said half eyed with that smug frown on her face. "And if you think that's lame how about if anything hurts Sasha or me while you're on guard duty, you'll get no food for a day!"
Somewhat intimidated by her words the pride inside me wasn't going to set here let her talk that way me. "Now let me tell you something...." Was all I could as a black orb whizzed pass my face and into the sky. I looked down and it was Sasha with the same expression as Krystal.
"Let it go and do what our master commands." She said with a commanding voice.
At that time I started to laugh at the thought of what she just said, but she was dead serious. Krystal looked at Sasha worried then back at me angry.
"Fine! You two win this time, but only because we're partners Krystal. I'd appreciate it if you started treating me as such instead of your butler or a weapon...ok?" I said with a blush.
"Sure fine whatever..." She said as she started walking down the road.
Sasha huffed at me then ran off behind Krystal. Things with Krystal and I have been getting a lot tougher with her around that for sure. To be honest with myself I don't really trust her even for the week that I spent getting to know her. That was more about fighting than it was about her personality, but she seems to take a real liking to Krystal. As long as Krystal is happy I'll be happy.
'Ugh it feels like I'm contradicting myself.' I thought as I followed behind them. 'I don't know only time will tell I guess.'
We spent about twenty minutes on walking with no talking between us. I sure wasn't going to talk either of them with all the tension in the air and without me as a translator they couldn't talk with each other either.
We passed by a large tree that had a sign on it saying 'This way to the National Park.' We sat at the sign for about two minutes before I broke the awkward silence saying, "Oh wow a park isn't they supposed to be fun?"
Once I said that a wild Ratatta jumped from the bushes yelling and screaming. The noise startled us all as we all turned around to face the noise; I dropped into a ready stance waiting for whatever to attack. The Ratatta ran by us and into the bushes behind the tree, as we waited for whatever scared it to make itself known to us.
We waited about three minutes before I walked over to where the noise was coming from and check it. There was nothing to be found I turned back to Krystal and Sasha shaking my head. I came back to them and said, "I think that just a crazy Pokémon."
"Yeah most likely but you never know let's keep our guard up just in case you know." Krystal said as Sasha and I nodded to her.
While we were making our way down the road everyone were remaining quiet, so once again I had to say something. "Hey Sasha wait a sec I have something to tell you."
"I've told you once before I'm not looking for a mate Ferali, so keep it to yourself."
"And I've told you before I'm not interested in a Pokémon...anyway I only want to apologize for the game earlier, I want us to be friends." I said with a confident smile.
She then began smiling then broke out into a loud laughter, which caused me to blush then become angry. "Well if you're going to laugh at my apology forget it then." I huffed at her.
"No, no it's not that I just never took you as the very apologetic type that's all, most Pokémon I came across aren't friendly when it comes to simple thing like this especially from a Feraligatr. I accept your apology and apologize as well for acting the way I did, it was really my fault for continuing to play knowing that I couldn't win." She said now smiling.
Then came a loud huff, "I wish I could understand what you're saying" Krystal said interrupting as we continued to walk.
Sasha then stopped and looked back at me which caused me to stop. She then stuck her front paw out and said, "Friends?"
"Friends." Taking her front paw into my paws shaking it happily.
"I think I'm going to be sick." Krystal said holding her hand up to her mouth making a fake gagging noise.
I shook my head and started walking towards her with Sasha right behind me now skipping. I guess the person I use to be wouldn't have done something like that, then again it could have been a simple case of pride not wanting to be let go of.
We walk a little further down the road before we a large door that was open it said 'Welcome to the National Park.' We continued pass the door to the other side, to only have all our Jaws hit the ground to beautiful sight of the park.
Krystal started sprinting forward and jumped really high into the air landing into a soft patch of grass, Sasha and I soon followed after her and lying next to her without a care in the world. We heard footsteps approach us from behind; I stood up to see what it was. It was a really fat guy wearing overalls with a kid on his shoulders smiling at me.
"Where's your owner, big guy?"
I looked down and nudge Krystal with my foot; she looked up to me with a sigh as I tilted my head to side where the large man was standing. "So what do you want big guy?" she said without even looking the man's direction.
"Oh nothing I just wanted to show my son here a Pokémon battle, and since this Feraligatr wouldn't be standing here not belonging to anyone for no reason. I must ask how do manage to tame such a large beast for someone so small?" The man asked now rubbing his beard.
"I don't know man the same way small girls train their Gyarados, but he's not a Pokémon he's my partner. And yes I'll accept your challenge, but I hope you don't mind losing."
"HAHAHA that's what I like to hear! Looks like we lucked out on this one eh kiddo. Ok we have a double battle since you have two Pokémon out, how about it?
"Sure let's do it!" Krystal said tossing her legs back then jumping up onto her feet.
The large man then walked back three meters away from us and pulled out two Poke balls. "Are you ready youngster?"
"Bring it on old timer!" She yelled as Sasha and I stood side by side in defensive stances waiting for our opponent to make his move.
He lightly tossed both his balls into the sky and in an explosion of light rain down bright energy revealing his two Pokémon. One was a Gengar and the other was a Houndoom, they looked to be well raised, though nothing Sasha and I couldn't handle.
"Shady and Fido use shadow ball and flame thrower on that Absol."
Both the Pokémon did as command and launch a black orb and straight flame directly toward Sasha. Without thinking I act on the defensive and got a water spiral to manifest around my tail, as I used a hydro pump toward the flame. Once the water intercepted the flame I stepped in front of Sasha and use my tail like a baseball bat and knocked the orb away while doing as little to no damage to my tail.
"Oh wow kiddo I think we're dealing with a psychic here, her Pokémon dealt with that quite well without her saying a word."
"Now isn't that rude, I'm no psychic my Pokémon just know how to counter attack without me telling them." Krystal said while placing her hands on her hips.
"Well isn't that neat, that shows you're an experienced trainer, and that I shouldn't hold back! Here watch your old man shine kiddo!"
The big man whistle to his Pokémon and signaled them to look back at him. He made a few quick hand signs, and then pointed to me. I knew they'd be targeting me next so I got ready for anything they could dish out.
The Gengar hopped onto the Houndoom's back and pointed towards me, while laughing with a creepy smile. The Houndoom's bolted towards me with blinding speeds, showing no signs of stopping I shot a few water gun attacks at it, but it quickly side stepped them.
The Houndoom was less than a meter away, before I charge up my right hand for an ice punch. The Houndoom continued on its path as it tilted its head down. I knew it was coming in to ram me, but I didn't know why the Gengar was on of it back. So I planned on taking the Gengar out using the momentum of the Houndoom when it got closer.
"Ferali move!"
I heard the voice of Sasha as she tackled me from my right side throwing me across the battle field. As I was slid I watched as Sasha took the full power of the giga impact to her side, which sent her flying back towards Krystal.
'Sasha what the hell are you doing!' I thought as I regained my balance.
Just then a huge thunder bolt landed right in front of me. My eyes went wide as I didn't realize what just happened; Sasha saw something that I did not.
At that moment the Gengar on top of the Houndoom head began to disappear, and then a shadowy figure came from out of the sky revealing it to be the Gengar.
"Oh wow you're Pokémon must really care about one another, not to many Pokémon would have avoided that attack let alone take the blow for another." The man said while rubbing his chin.
"Dammit Ferali I need you to be more aware of your surroundings, and Sasha get to your feet a small tap like that should not take you out!" Krystal said now folding her arms. "Since you two seem to not be able to handle this on your own I'll give out the commands for remainder of the battle."
Sasha began to stumble back to her feet wincing at the pain, but shook it off. I need to remind myself to thank her later.
"Alright you two let's start off with a psycho water cut!"
When Krystal issued the command Sasha and I nodded to each other to show that each other were ready. I began to charge a hydro pump, while she readied a psycho cut.
"Houndoom and Gengar prepare yourselves for whatever they're going to do!" The older man yelled out not being able to think of a proper counter.
As we both released our attacks we then both followed behind them to follow up leaving them no time to breathe.
"You two dodge immediately!" The man yelled out, but it was too late as my Hydro pump collided with the Houndoom and Sasha's psycho cut landed on the Gengar.
The attack sent both Pokémon flying in the air colliding with one and another. When they hit the ground, and then standing to their feet the Houndoom was looking over the Gengar's shoulder as was the Gengar to the Houndoom. Only to see the two of us charging behind them, as the two of them turned to face their opponent we were already in their faces.
My fist hit the Houndoom in the face with a right hook ice punch and Sasha on the other side with a left claw night slash to the Gengar's stomach.
With the force Sasha and I used to into the attacks it caused both of the Pokémon to fly back towards their master sliding across the ground defeated.
"OH WOW! What great battle such flawless execution in the combined attack, it threw me off guard! That Absol of yours must be something else as well to take a head on Giga impact and still be able to move around like that." The man said as his son cheer in excitement.
"I have to admit that you're pretty good to old timer." Krystal said as she looked the two of us now lying on top of each other, exhausted from the battle. "That combo you used earlier in the fight what did you do? My attention wasn't entirely on the fight." She said as an ego boost.
"Well since you won I guess it wouldn't hurt to telling you." The man said now recalling his Pokémon back into their balls. "When I gave the signal, my Gengar made a substitute of itself and placed it on the Houndoom back while jumping really high at the same time. My Houndoom will then charge head first with a giga impact, my opponents would notice that the Gengar would be trying to do something on its head and go for it while avoiding the giga impact attack. Little do most know that it was a fake, while the real one is in the sky charging an attack."
Krystal and my eyes widen when we heard that, I tried to not make any sudden moves seeing as I now cradled Sasha in my arms. She was still twitching for the attack from earlier; I rubbed her head in comfort to ease her pain.
"It came to a surprise to me to the see that your Absol sacrificed itself for your Feraligatr. Seeing through our attack, taking a blow like that, and still managing to pull off a win is nothing more than pure skill and training!" The man said now holding his hand out towards Krystal.
Krystal stared at the man then at his hand. I coughed loudly enough to make her turn around and looked back at me and I began to nod. She nodded to me then looked back at the man and extended her hand out to him and grabbed ahold of his and shook it with a smile on her face.
I then began to smile, happy at the thought that she's actually getting along with someone. Guess she'll only get along with someone that strong in her eyes.
Guess after that brutal week of nonstop training actually paid off in the long run, I looked down at Sasha and thought 'Atleast for one of us I guess...'
The man and his son then waved goodbye to us as they started to walk away Krystal waved back to them. I just held on to Sasha as she started to moan in pain, I began to spray the bruised area with warm water from my mouth.
Krystal started making her way back to us; I looked up to her with a worried look in my face.
"Please tell me you have something to help her..."
"Yeah yeah don't worry it's only a bruise I have something for that in my backpack."
She began to reach inside her bag and pulled out a spray bottle, she crawled over to where I was reaching over Sasha, and spraying her bruised area. While she was spraying Sasha I couldn't help but look down at her curly hair and blush a bit.
"She's not as weak as you are, you know."
"Huh wha?" I said in confusion.
"And she's not as absent minded as you are..."
"What are you talking about?"
"Ugh Ferali please be quiet, we're going to relax here till night then setup camp for tonight..." She said with a blush now trying to use her hair to cover it.
"And good job today..." She said quickly still hiding her face.
"Umm...thanks I guess..." I blush with my eyes trailing off to the side.
We spent the rest of the afternoon just laying down relaxing after the battle, Sasha lying at my side sleeping peacefully. Krystal would occasionally get up to do some exercises then rest in between, I might have guess that would exercise pretty regularly, but that still doesn't explain why she have that strength and speed.
Night came faster than I thought as Krystal stood up and said, "Alright that's enough of a break, everyone with the exception of Sasha have to set up camp for the night."
"Ugh Krystal why didn't you say that earlier we could have had everything set up already..."
"What the hell do you think I am your mother? I don't think I should have to tell you the most basic things to do." She said now placing her hands on her hip.
"You two are like an old married couple..." Sasha said in a weaken voice.
"Hehe look like the dead speaks, how are you feeling?" I said smiling to her as I look down to her.
"Oh so you're awake eh, what she say Ferali?"
"Uh nothing she said she's hungry..."
Krystal shrugged at the comment looked towards me and pointed at the woods. I took a deep breath and thought it's for the injured Absol that saved me, so I got up swallowing my pride, and walked away to the woods.
About an hour passed as I returned back to where Krystal and Sasha were sitting. Krystal was stroking Sasha head smiling as she looked down at her. I never saw Krystal so calm and happy with anything before, I'm not sure but I think this is the beast that I might be falling stupidly in love with...I don't know why though.
Krystal looked up to me and frown saying, "About freaking time you took forever..."
"Oh shut up and come on I have everything ready that's not too far off from here." I said interrupting her.
She nodded and waved me over to her to pick up Sasha; I walked over to her, pick Sasha up, and told her which direction the camp at.
As we walked to the camp my eyes kept trailing over to Krystal. Everything in my being tried to focus on something else, but my eyes had a will of their own. I couldn't bring myself to think of why I was so attracted to her. To come to think about it when I first met her I didn't want to have anything to do with her, and now I find myself not being happy without having an argument with her.
"You should tell her how you feel...." A weak voice said.
"Sasha?" I said as looked down to her.
"Hmph Ferali you remind me more of a human than a Pokémon...."
As we continued to walk I began to slow down so Krystal couldn't hear what I was saying.
"I don't know what you're talking about..." I said with a bright red blush spreading across my face.
"You can't hide it from me..." She said with a weak smile.
"Shush you need to rest for saving my ass back there."
"Hey that's what friends are for right?"
When she said that I completely stopped and looked down to her as she lay in my arms with now a paw in my chest, my heartbeat doubled when she touched me.
"You remind me so much of him..." she whispered to herself.
"What was that?" I asked her.
"Nothing...I just want to see everyone happy, but I must tell you Ferali, Krystal is still looking for her lover. I think you have what she's looking for right now; to be her partner, and be someone she can rely on in hard times. And who knows she might show you the same feelings back...." She said as she went back to sleep.
I looked up to see Krystal walking a little further ahead, I sighed and thought to myself, "How can I show you?"Chapter End Notes:Tell me what you think yadda yadda; and I'll see ya next week ^^!
