Chapter 5- Shepard's calling

Langlas stood their staring at the dark shadow, gazing at it and seemed that the creature did the same. "You were quite foolish to journey here youngling, only darkness and death await you in these ruins." Langlas glanced at his companies before answering, "I was only seeking a way home, I was forced into this world and this portal is my only way back. Do not stand in my way." A shadowy chuckled came from the creature, "I sense in you goodness, and an evil being such as myself cannot allow you to leave alive." "Then I ask for a final request."

The creature looked at him then waved his hand for him to proceed.

"Allow my companies to go free, I promised them to see my world and I won't break my promise."

Dourin looked up in defiance, for he even saw how dire this situation was.

"I will allow it, say your goodbyes I have all the time in the world."

Langlas bent down in front of his friends, "Guys get out of here, seek help, and find anyone willing to heed your call." Crebain, Bryult and Poochy understood and ran through the portal but Dourin remanded still. "Please Dourin, do as I ask." Just as quickly he shucks his head and turned to stand in front of him.

"Your friend doesn't want to leave? Then he shall die with you."

A quick number of barks came from Dourin.

"What do you mean I'll lose? You dare defy the mighty Darkria?"

A glow emerged Dourin and slowly he changed forms, into a Houndoom, with just as much defiance in his eyes as to just a minute ago.

"Just because you evolve doesn't mean you're stronger than myself."

Dourin made a short bark, then turned and rammed Langlas through the portal along with himself.

Darkria stood their bewildered, "Well I didn't see that coming, I'd best give chase. What kind of villain would I be if I didn't?"

On the other side, Langlas was getting back up on his feet and checking his surroundings. The area around him was that of an old ruin but time has crumbled it to a few standing walls and several columns. Langlas walked to the entrance and saw what looked to be a city, a couple of thousand feet just down the hill.

"Wait, that's Bree, then this is The Crumbling Court and this means... I'm home."

"Bugger, going through this portal is such a drag." Langlas turned to see Darkria emerging from the portal, "I'll be with you in a moment to destroy you."

Langlas didn't plan on waiting for his enemy to get ready, whistling to Dourin and running towards the gates of Bree. 'In Bree, there's hundred of warriors their and since this creature is but one, it can't stand to face hundreds.'

Two guards were standing at their post when they saw something approach from the darkness of night. "Langlas is that you old boy?" Langlas ran up, "Look I haven't got time to explain sound the alarm we're about to come under attack." They stood their for a moment, "Well Roger do as he said sound the alarm" The other guard quickly left as Langlas was showed inside. "Get with the others inside, I'll check on the enemy".

The guard drew his bow and glared into the darkness, too late for him though as a shadow hand grabbed the guard and flung him over the walls.

Langlas stood with the rallied guards as more and more people heard the call of the attack. A man walked up beside, covered in black armor and armed with a spear in his hand. "A fight is to be had, eh guv?" Langlas turned his head slightly to notice that the man's hair was pitch red, odd in the lands of Middle-Earth. "Indeed it's only one creature but very powerful, calling itself Darkria." The man could only laugh as he walked forward in front of the rest of the gathering army.

A few moments later the gates burst open scattering wood and iron about the city entrance and the court where the army gathered. When the dust settled, Darkria stood in front of the army and stared out until seeing Langlas. It stretched out its' hand quickly, only to have it repelled back by a sharp pain that coursed through it. Darkria felt the pain and looked at its hand and noticing a small hole through its hand before reforming itself to normal.

"You are cowards attacking from a far, face me and prove yourself!"

"Oi!" Darkria looked down to see the man in black, "You are going to leave these mates alone and your gonna crawl back to your shitty home you came from you shadowy dick."

Both the army and Darkria looked at him bewildered, that he would say such thing to someone has powerful as himself.

"And what you going to do if I don't leave?"

Again the man laughed before letting out a high pitch whistle. At first nothing happened but then twenty red dots appeared over Darkria's body as well as three larger red crosshairs.

"Or else my mates are gonna full you full of holes, something you can't regenerate from."

Darkria took a step back, "you can't be serious, I cannot be killed. I AM THE SHADOWS THEMSELVES!"

"Yeah that's nice, KILL HIM!"

Upon hearing order, holes began appearing all over Darkria body as rockets fired off a few of the roofs exploded upon his body. The shootings lasted for a minute before and man held up his hand for them to stop.

Darkria stood there, badly damaged and gasping his chest, "I told you I cannot die, but I will retreat but I must ask. Who are you?"

"Me? My name Leon Shepard and I look forward facing you again, one on one. Fair enough?"

"Yes I will find you when the day comes."

Darkria faded back into the shadows of the night, leaving the army in awe.

"What? Why lose manpower when you've got snipers and artillery fire."

The army cheered for Leon and the men who assisted him, bringing them all to the Prancing pony, leaving the guards to rebuild the gate.

As morning came, the cheers were now mostly a drinking slur having most of the party goers asleep. Leon stood on top of rock outside the bar as Langlas approached.

"What were you and your men doing here if I may ask?"

Leon turned and sat down on the rock, "Looking for someone, my brother. He's angered a lot of people and they're rich enough to hire me and my boys to hunt him down."

"What did your brother do?"

"Uh, sell intelligence to the enemy, sabotage a weapons deport that killed at least 50 people and injure hundreds, destroyed a two-hundred year old palace, to name a few of his crimes."

"Geez, he sounds dangerous."

"Not dangerous, he just doesn't care. He looks upon the world with such hate that he cares not what he does. We later found out that most of his charges he did was because he was hired to do them. So he's a reckless mercenary like me... well not the reckless part."

"Got any other family?"

"Aye, my twin brother William, he's back home in charge of our countries armies so he tends to be busy but at least he's well paid and doesn't have to travel much."

"Ever stay in contact with him?"

Leon pulled off from his what looked like a walkie-talkie but glowing slightly.

"All three of us carry this, untraceable so we can always stay in contact"

"Wait the brother you're hunting has one of these?"

"Yep and before you ask I have told him to turn himself in many times, but still he refuses, actually I might as well see if I can contact any of them now."

Leon started pressing a few buttons and what seemed like a large sonic boom came out from the radio.

"Robert Shepard, reporting in."

"I'm here, too"

"Yo guys I'm in Bree of Middle-Earth, cool right? I even got Langlas here."

"The ranger from the road? Interesting. How is he faring?"

"Quite well, my boys just fended off the place from Darkria."

"I felt so bad making him a villain for this story after watching the tenth movie. Truly one of the coolest cats I've ever seen."

"What's that in the background?"

"I'm just listening to that full Ryuuseigun video."

"With or without vocals?"

"First without but now gonna listen with."

"So where are you guys at?"

"Oddly enough I got some down time so I went through a portal and currently taking my time in Istanbul. Lovely place although it's during the seventeen-hundreds so they've got that war with Russia to deal with."

"I've found myself in Mos Eisley on Tatooine, and its before any of the movies. We've just got news of the blockade on Naboo so I'm gonna find 'Little Anne' and go save the world and stuff."

"Thanks for making my job easier, anything else?"

"Yeah go to Ered Luin, and go to Skolgrim's tomb. There's a portal there that connects to Bespin. I've got to sign off for now, I think I just saw his master."

"Me too, my coffee just arrived and I prefer to drink in peace."

Leon put the radio away, "We're on friendly terms even though I chase him."

Langlas stood in awe at what he heard, "So what now?"

"Now I'm off to Thorin's hall and going through that portal. So long Langlas perhaps we will meet again."

And off Leon went, down to the horses and buying mounts for himself and his men.

As they left, four men entered through the same gate, two humans, a dwarf and an elf.

"LANGLAS!"

The Dwarf cheered as he crashed into Langlas plowing him to the ground, "You've been missing for weeks, where the hell were you?!?"

"Come Odrim I'll explain inside I'm quite sure Fonwind, Narrock and Kaiden would like to hear this as well."

The five of them entered the bar, and Langlas sat down and explained what occuried.
