Old Friends

"This... this can't be happening... I...I just c-can't be...I mean... it just d-doesn't make sense..."

These thoughts rushed through the trainer's head, the teenager sitting thoughtfully on the jagged walls of the deep, mysterious Giant Chasm.
He'd been out on his pokemon journey for quite some time, nearing Victory Road, but deciding to take a pitstop for more training along the scenic route to Undella Town.

"I...I m-mean... Y-yeah, sh-she's...she's pretty and all...with her...c-cute charms...and...d-deep eyes..."

The lad sighs, looking skywards dreamily, before shaking the thoughts from his head, flushing a deep red. "N-no...i-it's just not...not right. Not normal at all. I...I..." He sighs, reaching behind him, holding a pokeball before his eyes, seeming very reluctant to open it. It had been a while since he'd captured the pokeball's contents, all the way back in Pinwheel Forest...

"Alright Snivy!" The lad cheered, his loyal starter calmly dashing towards a Pelittil, tackling the pokemon down. "Seems like you really got some power there, little buddy!" The teenage trainer chuckled, the Snivy nodding in agreement as he hurried back to his master. "I'd say we could take on anything!" The teenager, smiling broadly as he glances skyward, gave the Snivy a quick pet and nod of approval before seeing the Snivy back into its pokeball, the lad smiling softly as he turned to leave the grassy forest, a faint rustling catching his attention. Quick as a wink, the lad would be ready to throw the round device, peering about cautiously for any attackers. Instead, something else met his gaze. A tiny little bug, inching towards him hurriedly, seemingly... shivering.

"Hello...what have we here?" The lad blinks, tilting his head curiously, glancing around for perhaps it's trainer. Before he knew it, the little critter would be snuggling against his legs, seemingly cooing in contentment. "Whoa, little fella, getting a little friendly there, aren'tcha?" The lad chuckles, hoisting the bug into a cradling position, the pokemon happily snuggling against him. "Now... what exactly are you... Ah, here we go, Sewaddle." The lad quickly skims the pokedex entry, tilting his head curiously as he reads, glancing occassionally at the quiet dozing bug. "That's odd... usually your kind have a nice warm leafy coat..." The teenager smirks, snuggling the bug. "Well then, suppose I'll be keeping you, little miss. Now... Let's get you something nice and warm to wear." The lad quickly rummages through his bag, still carefully cradling the content little bug.

Soon, he'd produce an small towel, carefully wrapping the tiny creature in the warm cloth. "There, now isn't that so much better, little miss?" He smiled, holding the bug's face up to his. With a coo of agreement, the little Sewaddle would nod, squirming about in its new cozy clothing. "Right then... since you don't seem to have a trainer... I guess you're coming with me." Still cradling the little bug, the lad would walk off towards the forest's exit, the little critter snuggling into his embrace.

The little bug, whom the lad named Catherine. proved very powerful to his team, even surpassing his Snivy's abilities... not that the grass snake would like him saying that. The only problem it seemed to have was her lack of confidence... which was easily overcome by a quick glance over to him. The lad couldn't explain it, but that look seemed... familiar.

Around Twist Mountain was when the final evolution occurred, the lad watching in awe as Catherine, now a Swadloon, began glowing brightly, swirling round magestically until... with a blinding flash, Catherine stood shyly before the teen, now a full-grown Leavanny. Smiling broadly, the lad nods, the tall bug-lass blushing slightly. "Aww, Catherine!... You're so pretty now!" This only furthered the lass' blushing, which continued the entire trip through the mine. And even afterwards, every cheer and glance of approval from the teen would cause the Leavanny to gain a deep blush.

It was a few days ago, at Oplucid City where the strange event that led to his pitstop towards Undella Town occured. They'd just defeated the gym leader, the lad proudly heading towards the Pokemon Center, deciding to head out towards Victory Road the next morning. "Well then, little miss..." The lad began, speaking to the Leavanny at his side, whom queitly tilted her head. "Tomorrow's a big day. We get to begin Victory Road... are you excited?" The lass shyly nodded, seeming to have something on her mind as the two headed into the pokemon center. "Aww... c'mon Catherine..." The lad smirks, leaning down to face the bug. "What's wrong?"

Quietly the lass looked up, staring deeply into the teen's eyes. Before the lad knew it, Catherine would be kissing his lips passionatly, the lad pulling away in surprise. "Wh-whoa th-there, miss..." He paused, gulping worriedly, the Leavanny now frowning and blushing deeply, seeming sorry to have done this act. The lad's mind raced with blurred thoughts. This...this was a strange feeling, all those glances... all those nods and shy movements from her. He realized excatly what Catherine had been feeling all those times. Love. He'd been the wonderful person who'd swooped her off her feet, carrying her off to safety, showing he'd cared for her by feeding and clothing her... Her knight in shining armor. Needless to say, he slept rather unwell that night. He could only imagine Catherine had as well.

Now here he sat a few days after this occurance, holding his companion in his palm, gazing nervously at the round device. "It...It's...it's just not...right..." He paused, biting his lip, about to put the Pokeball away... before returning it to his gaze. "Or...or is it?"

He had to wonder. Catherine was cute. She had all the lovely...uh, "features," as he liked to put it. She cared for him... what more could the lad ask for? Quietly, he held the button on the ball, aiming it away from him. With a bright flash, Catherine would appear before him, glancing around curiously. Not a soul in sight... wait, was he realeasing her? Or was something else up?

Quietly she'd turn around, staring at the lad, who'd be doing the same to her. Motioning for her to sit, the lad would stare off into the foggy chasm, Catherine following his lead. "You... you remember when we first met, Catherine?" He'd pause, staring over at the Leavanny, who'd be nodding quietly, cheeks red. The lad remained queit, before slowly shifting his hand, moving it ever so softly towards the Leavanny's, turning to the lass whilst smiling softly. The bug-girl seemed quite flustered, unsure what to do, until, with his other hand, the lad caressed her cheek, his eyes showing that everything was alright. At this, the lass smiled shyly back, each of them moving towards the other, embracing one another in a long, passionate kiss.
