Chapter 1 - The Awakening
The blaring alarm sounded throughout my darkened room like a bomb going off in a sewer. It didn't necessarily have the same effect in that it didn't destroy the things around it, but it did scare the living shit out of me. I slammed my hand down on the device, ceasing the annoying sound and knocking the alarm off my night stand in the process. The soft jingle that replaced the alarm was both comforting and irritating as I swung my legs around to the side of my small bed and righted myself. I snatched my cell phone from the table and flipped it open, ignoring the Active Call message and pressing it to my ear.
"This is an automated Voice Message; please stand by for your assignment." Great, they're sending me somewhere else. The female voice of the computer shifted to that of a human's to deliver the message. "Good Morning, the Director has ordered me to send you this message in regards to a very high priority mission. The priority of this particular Assignment is in the X Class." Now that is very interesting, what is so important that they're calling me out? More importantly, what was the real Class of the mission? The 'X' ranking meant that it could be anything from rescuing a Bidoof from a tree to destroying a Comet hurtling toward the planet, though I highly doubted it would be anything that pathetically easy. I mean really, a four year old could get the Bidoof, and one of our lower ranking members would be better fit to take care of a Comet then I. Not really, but they wouldn't waste my time with something like that.
"The details of the assignment will be delivered via Air Delivery's Co., and should be regarded immediately. Thank you for listening, we hope to see you in our offices soon... End Message."
Well now, it would seem I'm being transferred. I stood and pocketed my phone, using the night-stand as support to lift myself off the bed and onto my feet where I stretched my back. "Hopefully it won't be as god damned boring as this current mission." I said aloud, stopping my stride forward to scratch my chin. Someone else from the Organization would be sent to my current position to fill my spot, but even so this was quite a touchy job. Not everyone is capable of maintaining an entire base of operations... Just then, I heard a loud knock on the hard wood of my front door. With a sigh, I walked forward through the door to my room that stood ajar, and into the living quarters.
The living room was plain, just like my bedroom was. One couch, a chair and a single coffee table. The carpet was a boring Grey that matched the furniture, and the only thing that looked remotely different from the entire room was the coffee table with its polished wood and glass top and the only difference between this entire room and my bedroom was the bed. There was no T.V or plants, basically the place lacked anything that would resemble a typical household. I hated this place, but then again I did move around a lot. That room connected to a small hallway that held a Bathroom at its end, and then the living room branched off to the small kitchen with its linoleum flooring and plain white appliances. The essentials were packed into the small room, leaving it with very limited counter space, but it worked fine for my needs. Disregarding my usual morning ritual of a cup of coffee and a bagel, I strode forward and gripped the door knob on my door, twisting and pulling it to open the door and reveal the person making the irritating knocking sound.
To my surprise, a young woman stood before me about a foot shorter than me. Her cheerful smile was wiped away in an instant as she looked me up and down. Her face shifted from a happy one, to a very embarrassed one. Her eyes snapped shut and she bowed deeply, holding out a small package. "Terribly sorry sir, but I have a delivery for a Mr. Clarke." She spoke with an English accent in her voice, which sounded very professional, as well as confused and nervous, and I nearly smiled at her using of my surname, which of course was false information. I answered with a blank tone. "That would be me. Thank you." I took the package, and she turned away, making a run for the large orange dragon that stood at the sidewalk. As she hopped onto its back, she made another quick look at me, before ordering it to fly. The Dragonite righted itself from its kneeling position which it had used to let the girl on, and flew off quickly. That was strange, she seemed very anxious to get away from me... Shrugging it off, I shut the door and walked back to my room, dropping the package down on my bed. I turned around to face the closet, only to notice my reflection in the mirror that sat just above it. Well, that would explain her nervous tone; I was completely naked. Not even a pair of underwear. Oh well, at least she was somewhat cute. I grabbed a pair of underwear from my dresser and slipped them on so that I wasn't completely bare, then snatched the package off my bed. I pushed my finger through the clear tape, and the plastic broke easily and tore away when I dragged my finger through the crack between the two cardboard flaps. I had the box open and the item it held out in no time at all. The device I held was a simple sphere almost resembling a pokeball, only instead of the typical Red and White, it was a pure white color. I pressed down on the activator button, and the sphere folded into itself to leave a platform of sorts with a clear spot in the middle.
The glass lit up and a hologram in the form of a human appeared inside of a transparent blue light. It regarded me with a nod, and began to speak. "You have been Chosen. Report to our offices in Sinnoh immediately." The figure disappeared and left a very confused me in its place. Chosen? Oh, now this was very interesting. Only the Elite are chosen. The Organization doesn't Choose simpleton Ten year olds like in the Anime's and Manga's to go out and do something that has any real effect on the world. Hell, things like this don't even happen to the typical adult. But more importantly, what had I been Chosen to do? It was obviously fairly important if they were sending me. As it stood right now, I was one of, if not the highest ranking member of the Organization. I was classified in the S Group, mainly because of my parentage, but also because of my skill level. To be Chosen meant that I would be going on an A to S Class mission and it would seem this is a mission of the highest priority if the Director feels that only I am capable of completing the task. What would I be doing? Defending somebody important? Stopping some ominous force from destroying Earth? Maybe I was being sent to an entirely different Universe. That would be exciting. I've never been broken down Molecule by Molecule, I'd expect it to be fun. Then again, if I really wanted to go somewhere, I wouldn't need to do anything fancy. Still though, it would be more fun.
Deciding I'd be better off actually going to the HQ rather than sitting here, dicking around and speculating on what I had been assigned to do, I dropped the ball into the package after it closed up and left it sitting on my bed. There was no risk of somebody else getting the message, it wouldn't play again anyways.
I went through my morning 'ritual's' quickly, skipping my Bagel and opting for a quick cup of Coffee and a few pieces of toast instead. My mind was fairly blank; I really didn't even take the time to notice the sweet flavoring of grape jelly that I had put on my food, or the bitter taste of the black coffee as I sipped it quietly. My mind wasn't even on my assignment; in fact it drifted wherever it wanted. Weather that was on the slip-up this morning, the task at hand, things to come, or whatever else I didn't bother to remember. Time went by at a slow pace, it always did for me, and I stood around five minutes after I finished my 'breakfast'. I took nothing but a single black hoodie with me as I left the house for Arceus knows how long, and made my way to the black vehicle that sat at a stop in front of my former house. My hoodie in hand and my mind blank, I pulled the back door open and sat myself inside on the comfortable leather seats. "Do you have everything, Sir?" the driver asked in a frail sounding voice from behind a solid black window, I couldn't even see his face. He sounded as if he was an old man. Then again, he probably was. Knowing The Organization, they'd want somebody who could keep quiet, but could also be eliminated quickly should they lack the capability. "I do. You may drive, sir." I answered with a respectful tone. He nodded, and we were soon off toward HQ. I paid him no further mind as I looked out the tinted black window and at the people on the other side as they flew by in a distorting blur of speed. This trip would be a long one, but hopefully worth it in the end.
There wasn't anything I could do beside sit there as the car sped along. I attempted to play a game with my phone, but soon realized it was a bad idea as I started to get motion sick. My mind was about as blank as the car ride was dull and I slouched in the leather seats, letting my feet slip under the front seat and laying my head on the cold glass, letting it rock back and forth with the motion of the vehicle. I dozed off for a few minutes, but awoke quickly afterward even more horribly bored then I was before. I righted myself from my slouching position, and sat upright so that I could see my face in the reflective surface of the glass in the door to my right. Pale purple eyes stared back at me with the bored expression I knew to be my own, and I couldn't help but sigh at the extremely odd color. My skin was equally as pale as my eyes, and despite the fact that I bathed in sunlight quite often, almost resembled the color of a pearl. I couldn't see much else of myself, but realistically there wasn't much else to see. My shirt was white to match my running shoes, and my jeans were blue. Nothing all that fantastical, I had to blend in if I wanted to live a somewhat normal life. Dressing strangely would bring attention to myself, and I really didn't want that at all. Looking away from the endless void my eyes seemed to be, I decided to catch a little bit of rest while I still could, and let my head rest back and my eyes close. I was asleep within ten minutes.
-
I awoke to the gentle prompting of my driver, and thanked him for the service. I stepped out of the car and onto a simple sidewalk just behind a woman and her son as they walked into a strange looking shop. I began to walk down the street in the opposite direction, toward the edge of town, passing by vehicles and the typical ten to thirteen year old with their nifty little belts and their superiority complex. Really, it was aggravating to me. I couldn't stand those whiney little kid's, parading themselves around as 'trainers' when really, they're nothing more than dog fighters. All they did was force animals to do their bidding while fighting them for money and useless pieces of metal while chasing some stupid ass dream like becoming a champion. This had always baffled me; why would you want to become something like that? Sure, the title suggested you were a formidable 'trainer', but what they didn't understand was the responsibility behind the title. Ever heard the saying 'with great power comes great responsibility'? Well it's not a lie. The Champion is responsible for a lot of the way things are now. I've seen the duty that Champions held, hell I was nearly in the position myself. Back when I was young, naïve, and mind-blowingly retarded. Like every other tiny imbecile, I had started a journey of my own with the same pathetic goal of becoming Champion. I nearly achieved it, too. Only... I realized what it felt like to lose something... to lose somebody. Never again will I behave like a child. Never again will I touch another Pokeball. Never again will I become a Pokémon Trainer.
After around fifteen minutes of walking through the busy streets of the large city of... I don't know, I had arrived at the edge of the city; where the civilized met the untamed. I stepped off of the pavement and into a large field filled with weeds and dead grass. This was where I was supposed to be, but not really. I had about two miles to go until I reached my true destination. The driver was unable to take me directly to the spot because the car would stand out, so I had to hoof it. After a few minutes of walking, I decided I was better off starting my way there with a light jog. Thanks to many a endurance training session, I was able to jog at a fairly quick pace in a perfect line toward the center of the seemingly endless field. Annoying stickers were clinging to my pants as I ran, and shortly after hitting the one mile mark, I broke into a real run. Using my nose, I inhaled deeply, then exhaled, letting the used up oxygen free from my lungs very slowly through my mouth. I had found that doing this enabled me to run a lot faster for a lot longer, so I repeated the process for around five minutes until reaching what I was looking for: a manhole cover. I wouldn't have noticed it, had I not been looking for it. This was where I was supposed to be. I confirmed that I hadn't been followed with a quick survey of my surroundings, and lifted the cover up, revealing a small hole with a broken looking ladder, which I lowered myself into, and onto. My shoes clanged noisily against the metal of the otherwise surprisingly sturdy stairs which I had been expecting, of course. It continued the stepping motion until I reached the floor of what looked like a normal sewer. But, of course, I knew the secret that they had hidden so very well; a section in the wall. A very small section, but still noticeable if you knew what you were looking for. I slid the rusted red panel out of the way, and typed into the number-pad that was opened up to me. A click sounded to my left and to the left of the ladder. I reached my hand into the open hole, sliding the section of the wall out of my way with ease and opening up a dark hallway. I closed the 'door' behind me, and made my way down the hall and into the large open lobby that I knew so well. The lobby was huge, much bigger than any house and decorated twice as nicely. The cream colored walls and various potted plants were pleasant to look at, the chairs were extremely comfortable looking, and the large oak desk in the corner of the room blended nicely. I made my way over to said desk and greeted the woman that sat behind it. "Here's your card, sir." She said with a smile, and passed my key-card over the desk. "Thank you."
I slid the card into the small machine on the door, and was answered with a click. I pushed the door open, and let it shut quietly behind me as I walked down yet another hallway. The room I entered next was a huge change in pace. Machines littered every corner of the room and lined the walls. To be completely honest, everything but the giant screen used for conferences was absolutely foreign to me. I was told that everything is extremely high-tech and important, which was both obvious and mind blowing. I've seen some of these things create shit out of air. Air! I shit you not, I watched somebody make a god damn cocktail with these things. I've never used them myself, but I'd assume it would be quite a treat if I would. I passed all these and went to yet another long hallway. There were several different ones in this particular room, but only one I really needed to use. It was long, bright and honestly pretty nice. Different pictures of the members in the Organization littered the walls varying from photos of people after completing missions, people doing something important looking, and at the end of the hall was a large frame filled with every member, scientist, researcher and leader inside the organization to date. Farther down the hall was a door. Just one door, there wasn't any others in the whole thing. It was also the most important in the facility. I knocked once and then let myself in, shutting it behind myself and walking through the huge office to stand before a man behind a desk. Inside the office was pretty bland. Bookshelves lined the walls, there were two couches and a large table, and the back wall was made entirely of windows. The only important feature was the the man. I bowed just before I spoke. "Sir, I was told to report here?"
"Indeed you were. Take a seat; this is going to take a while to explain." He motioned to a chair just in front of the desk, but I declined, maintaining my standing position. "We've been noticing issues with the wildlife in Unova as of late." He said simply while adjusting his position in his chair. "They have been losing contact with major city's around their region. The governments are beginning to get involved... as you know, we can't let this happen." I nodded once, showing I understood. "We've had to step in to prevent something happening. We can't let them throw this even more out of balance..." he sighed. "Sir? What exactly is happening?" This was starting to worry me. He answered me with a sigh. "They are happening."
"No, sir that can't be. They shouldn't be starting this for another fifty years. Celebi herself confirmed-"
"Celebi was wrong." He interrupted me with an angry glare. "Something else has happened. Somebody we hadn't seen has thrown themselves into the problem. Because of this, They're going to be able to act a lot sooner. They also have a lot more power to work with. This is where you come in." I was shaking my head. "Sir, you know I can't deal with them on my own."
"Exactly. That's why I've had to... pull a few strings." He reached under his desk and pulled out a plain white box. "Do you know what this is?" I was speechless. Never before in the entire history of the Organization had something like this happened. Not even to Mars, the very first and the very strongest. Her father was very important. My mouth hung what seemed like inches from the ground. "I can see you do. Your Mother has decided to help us. No, has decided to help you. As of right now, you are the very best we have. You and only you can stop Them. With this," he opened the box, and removed what looked like a very expensive bracelet. "You will become even stronger. However, there is a catch." He held the bracelet out to me. God damn it, there was always some bullshit issue like this. "As you know, alone you would be helpless. You couldn't stop even one of their ranks, and that is where this comes in." he grabbed another thing from under his desk. A belt. "You need to capture and raise six Pokémon that you feel will be capable of helping you deal with Them."
"Absolutely not. I refuse to endanger more of them. You know what happened the last time." I responded with my own angry glare. "You don't have a choice. The high order has demanded that you be selected for this task, that you take this artifact, learn how to use it, and collect six powerful pokemon to raise and make stronger so that you can take out the threat that They are. You WILL take this Artifact, you WILL go to Unova and you WILL capture and train six pokemon so that you can eliminate Them. You have your orders, now get out of my office and take these with you." He dropped the belt, grabbed a backpack from under the desk which I assumed was filled with what I needed for the journey, set it on the desk and set the Bracelet on top of the bag. Fuck. I grabbed everything, pocketed the bracelet and slung the bag and belt around my shoulder. "I'm quitting after this." I said as I shut the door behind me, and walked out of his office.
The director sat along in his office. The quiet had returned and he clasped his hands. "That boy... he is our only hope. Without his help, we are done for. Arceus help him and whoever he chooses. I know he will choose well. He has to."

Also, don't expect too many of these End notes, I feel like they take away from the story somehow

He has to."
___________________Chapter End Notes:Well, that's it. If you have the time, I'd appreciate a review. And yes, I know The Orginization is a typical name, the real name will be revealed later on.
Also, don't expect too many of these End notes, I feel like they take away from the story somehow
