Chapter 1- Every Journey Starts Somewhere

"The test subject is almost ready, Sire."

"Good... Tell me when he is awake. I want to see him as soon as possible..."

"Of course, Sire." the women says before stepping out.

A man with long, gray-blonde hair stood in front of a large window a top a futuristic metallic-looking castle, gazing down upon his empire. He is oddly dressed, in a sort of royal get up. A long robe that covers the length of his body, ending just above his feet. The robe splits in the middle, reveling another layer of plain, white cloth, but the odd patterns on the first are more interesting. Both sides are in a strange pattern of lines, the center having an eye-shaped design. The left is an exact mirror image of the right, only differentiating in color; purple with yellow patterns on the left and yellow with purple patterns on the right. His right eye is covered by a white, triangular eye piece with a red visor. Around his shoulders and neck is what appears to be a large crown-like object, an icon on the front of it; a shield with half being black, and the other side white, with a light blue "P" with a backwards "Z" behind it.

"Heh heh... Soon... Soon I will rule all of the Unova Region... And even the entire world!"

The man let out a series of evil laughs, bathing in his own ideas of power and conquer. In a large chamber, deep within the castles, scientists dressed in white lab coats, move around the room, doing their best to finish the job that they had painstakingly pulled through for the last four years.

"Hurry up everyone!", the lead scientist shouted. "Lord Ghetsis will not stand for failure!"

Among the large machines and computers around the room, lied a large, glass container, filled with a solution of that found in embryonic sacs. Floating in the middle of the container was what looked like a young boy, roughly in his late teens. He had dirty-blond hair, and was wearing nothing expect an oxygen mask, along with wires connected to heart beat sensors and brain wave receivers. Although the body seemed to be asleep, it's mind had been silently awake for the past two hours, listening to its surroundings, and the conversations between the scientists. From what he was hearing, he was created by these people.

"Hopefully this will turn out better then the last one..." one of scientists said to another.

"Hm? What do you mean by that?" the other replied.

"You never heard of the other attempts at this? Team Magma and Team Aqua of the Hoenn Region successfully made a test subject by the test name of XD-385, but it went berserk, and escaped their lab. It caused a lot trouble for not only them, but for Team Galactic of the Sinnoh Region..."

The mind of the sleeping test subject thought on what it was hearing, wondering on what they could be talking about. There have been more like him before? And if so, why would they disobey the people who created them? All those questions were soon answered with what he heard next.

"Y-Yeah. Well... I hope that doesn't happen here..." muttered a scientist who had overheard the story.

"XD-649 should be more obedient than that failed experiment." The voice came from a man sitting in a lab chair facing a computer monitor. The screen was flashing all sorts of data that no normal person on the street would be able to comprehend. "This one will not only have all the DNA that XD-385 had, but also the DNA from all the Pokemon of Sinnoh and Unova. He will be perfect. The most destructive force in the world. Entire Regions will be under our Lords control."

"D-Dr. Gideon!" stuttered the first scientist. "I didn't notice you here!"

"Hmph..." the man turned toward the scientist, fixing his glasses as he did. "Quiet down, fool..."

"Y-Yes, sir! My apologies, sir!" The scientist scrambled back to working on a nearby computer again, the others also walking back to their posts.

Gideon turned back to his screen, a smug grin upon his face as his glasses reflected the flashing data on the computer.

"The title of Ultimate Bio Weapon... Will soon have a new holder..." he muttered to himself. "No one will defy our Lord. Anyone who does shall perish in the blink of an eye..."

"A weapon?!", XD-649 thought to himself, his mind now fully in control of his body though he still stayed motionless. "...They want to use me... They want me to kill people for this "lord" of theirs... Well not if I have anything to say about it. Now I see why my brother broke away from these men... He felt the same way I do know."

The brain wave monitor started to make a small beeping sound.

"Sir! We have brain activity occurring in the subject!"

The lead scientist grinned, looking at the boy in the container. "...Good. He should be waking soon."

Little did he know that the boy had already been awake, and was now angry.

"I'm getting out of here..." XD-649 thought. "I will not kill innocent people for these... monsters." A small glow started to radiate from his body. Soon the glow turned a pinkish color, and grew brighter.

The lead scientist let out a small gasp. "...! No... It can't be..." Looking to everyone in the room, he shouted them an order. "Everyone get down, now!"

Soon the glow formed into a sphere surrounding XD-649. Opening his eyes, he revealed them to be glowing the same color as the Psychic attack surrounding him.

"...I will not be created to destroy!", he yelled.

With that the built up psychic energy shot outward in all directions, obliterating the container he had be held in, and causing an explosion from the technological items in the lab, destroying everything in the lab, and killing most of the scientists, while badly injuring the others who survived. Hovering in mid air, he pulled off the breathing mask and threw it to the side, taking his first real breath of air. After looking at the scene around him for a moment, he blasted upward through the ceiling and through three more walls before breaking through the castle wall, and disappearing into the distance.

Lord Ghetsis, having hearing the explosion from the lab, and watching his Bio Weapon fly off out of sight, growled to himself, furious at what had just happened.

"....This isn't over. Not by a long shot. I WILL rule this world..." Just after finishing his sentence, a grunt bursts through the door. He was dressed in the normal Team Plasma uniform; a suit that looked similar to that of knights with out their armor from the middle ages, with the Plasma emblem on the chest piece.

"I'm sorry for intruding,Sire, but XD-649 has escaped!" the grunt explained.

Ghetsis, turning to look at the grunt, yelled at him. "Tell me something I don't know! Don't just stand there, get after him! I want a search party after that weapon immediately!"

"Y-Yes Sire! Right away!" The grunt responded, turning and running out of the room.

Ghetsis turned back toward the window, and looked back out into the distance. "You will be back in my possession soon... And when you are..." Tilting his head back, he let out a long, horrifying, hysterical laugh.

About ten miles away from the scene, in a forested area, the Bio Weapon landed to the ground, breathing a bit heavy.

"...I'm not use...to these abilities yet..." he said out loud to himself, slouching slightly.

With one last deep breath, he relaxed a bit, looking behind him.

"They'll be after me soon, if not already.", he said to himself. "I should get go-" But he paused a second, looking himself over, and realizing something. He was still naked. "...I should first find some cloths."

And with that, using his Ghost type DNA, he vanished from sight, becoming invisible to the human eye.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was another beautiful morning in Castelia City. Small huddles of Pidove woke from there roosts on top of the incredible structures of the city. Large business buildings reached toward the sky, smaller neighboring shops started to open at the new days beginning, and ships floating gently by the nearby ports, waited for their captains to take them out to sea again.

On the outskirts of the city, in a small, urban area that is not as well heard of, sat the Suburbs of Castelia, well hidden in a small forested area close by to the city. It was a quiet place, not nearly as bustling as its counterpart. The people were friendly toward each other, and it was almost boring there to some extent. Near the center of the groups of houses lied a light blue house. There are a few flowers planted in front of it, and the occasional Swaddle nibbling on the leaves of the bushes. It looked like any typical home. It was also home to a young boy, who was starting his own quest, as
most boys do. But not only was this boy older than most, being of the age of sixteen, whereas most boys leave home to begin their Pokémon journeys at ten, he wasn't like most boys at all...

"Steven! If you don't come down here in the next five seconds, I'm sending a search party up to get you! Wake up!"

In the kitchen of the settlement, moving around as fast as she can, cooking breakfast, and feeding the family pet, a Purrloin by the name of Tiger, is a woman. She's rather young looking, appearing about twenty-seven at first glance with her stunningly beautiful appearance, and light blue eyes, though her real age is thirty-four. She's dressed in a light yellow t-shirt, and blue jeans, with a pair of white flip-flops to complete the look. Her long, blue hair, tied up in a pony tail, sways lightly back and forth as he walked to the stair case, yelling up at her son once again, for the fifth time.

"Alright! I guess you don't want to go get your starter Pokémon today! I'll call Professor Juniper up and tell her she can give it to some other kid..."

"I'm coming! Just give me a sec!" came a voice from up stairs.

A boy appeared at the top of the stairs, his messy blond hair indicating he had just got out of bed. Being about 5' 10", and rather thin, but not boney, he didn't give off the impression that he was different. He wore a white t-shirt with a red design of a Pokéball on the lower, right side of the shirt, a pair of baggy blue jeans tied on with a light brown belt, and black and red sneakers. On his left wrist was a black digital watch, and on the right, a Pokéball design sweat band. Giving
his mother a grin, his blue eyes having a mischievous glint in them, he walked down the stairs, stopping on the last step.

"I was just making sure that I had everything set." he told his mother, which was obviously a lie, but he didn't want to admit he over slept on a day like this.

"Mhm... Of course you were." his mother said, shaking her head in a bit of frustration. "Professor Juniper is expecting you in her lab in an hour, and you haven't even eaten your breakfast yet. Just how do you expect to get to get there on time?"

Steven walked past his mother, and into the kitchen, going to the fridge.

"Don't worry. I'll just grab something on the way back home. And I'll be there on time. Don't you worry." he said, taking out the milk, and grabbing a glass from the cupboard. After pouring a glass of milk, and chugging it down rather quickly, he rushed back to his mother, giving her a quick kiss on the cheek.

"I'll be back soon, okay?"

Without waiting for an answer, he grabbed his red hat, which resembled a winter cap, but is made for all season use, due to its breathable stitching, with a black Pokéball design on the right half of it, and rushed out the door, closing hit rather hard on the way out.

"But wait! How are you going to-" his mother called out, but stopped as the door slammed shut.

Letting out a sigh, she shook her head, a small smile on her face. "He's just like his father..." With that, she turned back toward the kitchen, and got herself some breakfast.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Ugh... I got to rest... for a sec..." he wheezed through his deep breaths.

After running for what seemed like a while, he stopped, catching his breath while leaning on a tree. Steven was now a good twenty miles from his home, and almost half way to Nuvema Town, the town of where Professor Juniper's lab was located. Glancing down at his watch, he realized that he had been making good time. He had left Castelia City about twenty minutes ago, and had gotten through Nacrene City without a problem. He was almost worried that he wasn't going to make it on time,
but that was just panic clouding his mind. He had forgotten about his... uniqueness. If it wasn't for what he was, he might have still been back on Skyarrow Bridge right now. He was on Route 3, a stretch of grassy land between Nacrene City and Striaton City. After resting a moment more, he pushed himself off the tree, and took off running again.

"I'm going to make it there. I know I am!" he said to himself, hoping in the back of his mind he was right.

But before he could get more than ten feet, something caught him, knocking him down and holding him to the ground with their paws. A low growl could be heard from behind him. Surprised, but not really afraid, knowing immediately from the sound of the growl, what and who it was, he laid still, trying not to laugh. The growl got a bit louder, and soon he could feel the warmth of hot breath on the back of his neck. Not being able to hold it any longer, he began laughing. Soon he could hear the growls stop, and the weight of them being removed from his back. He sat up, turning around to face the "attacker". Who he saw was exactly who he expected. A Mightyena, sitting down with its tail wagging behind it, was giving him an amused toothy grin.

"Heh heh. Hey Ginger. Guess you smelled me close by, didn't you." he said between chuckles. She gave him a smirk, nodding her head.

He knew he had been being followed for the last mile, but didn't know exactly who or what was trailing him. So he stopped and took a break to let it catch up. Much to his surprise, it was his best friend, Ginger. Crawling over to her, he wrapped his arms around the Dark type, giving her a hug. Ginger had been his best friend since they met, always watching out for him, and having fun pestering Tiger back at home. He had found her three years ago when she was just a Poochyena, and rescued her from an abusive trainer who was visiting from the Hoenn Region. She never forgot that day, even after evolving two years later. Although he never officially caught her, he counted her as his own.

"It's been a long time since I've seen you. How have you been?

"I've been good. I'm glad to see you as well." she told him, leaning into his hug.

Of course, anyone walking by would have heard nothing but growls and low yips from the Mightyena, but thanks to "other side", he could understand her just like she was speaking English, because that's how he did hear it. Unknown to all, except Ginger and his mother, was that Steven was a werewolf. He had been born with it, apparently getting it from his father of whom he'd never met. Thanks to being what he was though, he could understand the language of Pokémon, as well as run from Castelia City to Nuvema Town in about an hour's time. He was also rather strong despite his appearance, being able to arm wrestle a Machoke and win. And all that was just in his human form. His abilities were twice fold in his wolf form. But being born a werewolf, he was not as violent like ones that had been changed. He could change whenever he wanted, and was in control at all times.

"That's good to hear. So what are you doing all the way out here?" he asked while releasing her from his arms. The last time he remembered seeing her was back at home, and that was about two weeks ago.

"I don't know. Exploring I guess. I just got bored for a while, and started traveling." Ginger replied. "I was on my way back today when I came upon your scent. So I went to investigate what you were doing out here."

"I see..." he said, grinning. "And I suppose you thought sneaking up on me was also a good idea?"

Also grinning, the Mightyena stood up from her sitting position and answered with a playful growl.

"Was I scary?" she asked, her rear end up in the air, making her seem more like a puppy.

"I was terrified!" Steven said, making a frightened expression on his face, pretending to shiver in fear.

"Then why were you laughing..." she said, not believing him.

"Ah... You had me scared silly?"

They both laughed at that remark. Ginger asked Steven why he was so far from home, and where he was off to. He told her that about how a week ago, he had seen a flier that stated something about getting a Starter Pokémon for free at Professor Juniper's Lab in Nuvema Town. So he called her up right away, and scheduled a meeting with her, which was today.

"Oh my gosh! I almost forgot!" he exclaimed, looking at his digital watch. "I've got to be there in the next ten minutes!" He hadn't realized how long he had actually spent catching up with Ginger.

"I'm sorry if I kept you!" Ginger apologized, just as exasperated as her friend was.

"No. It's fine." Steven replied, scrambling onto his feet. "Why don't you tag along? We can go there together."

"Sounds good, but... How are we going to make it there in time? Isn't Nuvema Town still another twenty miles from here?"
asked Ginger.

Letting out a small laugh, he looked around really quick, making no one was around, and then walked over to a nearby bush. After checking again that not one was watching, he started to undress himself.

"Um... Steven? I don't think now is the time for that..." Ginger said, giving a small frown.

"I'm not getting undressed for that! Sheesh! I'm doing it so I don't end up ripping them!" he retorted, a bit red in the face from embarrassment.

Secretly, he and Ginger had a "love life", if that's what people call it. Being half wolf gave him the ability to tell whenever she was in heat, and needed attention, in which he was kind enough to help satisfy her. It never got any more serious then that though, and he couldn't impregnate her, so they were just friends, and didn't want to really be anything more than that.

After he finished stripping, he folded his cloths up, and took of his wrist sweat band, and his watch, putting them in his pants pockets, and finally taking off his hat. He then closed his eyes, and concentrated for a moment. Ginger, now realizing what he was doing from his actions, and the strong smell of wolf starting emit from him, stepped back a moment to give him a bit of space.

"Oh... Okay." the Mightyena said, a bit surprised that he would actually shift right now.

First, his hair started to change from blond, to a darker brown, and then it started to shorten, while hair of the same color started to sprout from his skin, beginning to cover his whole body. While this was happening, his bone structure started to shift, which hurt, but he had long since gotten over that, and could hardly feel a thing. His skull began to crack, and rejoin, the crack again, as it turned more canine in appearance, his nose and mouth stretching farther out from his head, and his teeth sharpening. His muscles began to build up more, and become more noticeable. While his upper body started becoming more bulky, his legs and feet began shifting as well, his toes and upper feet forming more into a pads. The rest of his foot stretched, growing longer, while the lower half of his legs started to shrink in size, sizing out a bit. His head almost complete, his ears becoming more pointed and rising slightly on his head, his fingers grew slightly longer, the tips growing sharp claws, as his hands grew semi-larger. Finally, his back reconfigured its structure, causing him to slouch over slightly, and a small bulge began to grow above his rump. It kept growing, becoming more slender, and stopping a foot from
his body. It then started growing hair of the same color as the rest of him, only growing a bit bushier. When the
transformation was complete, he opened his eyes, them being the only thing that didn't change, still being their dark blue. The transformation all together took about a minute.

"Finished?" Ginger asked in a polite tone.

Giving her a toothy grin, similar to the one he gave her only more grimacing, he nodded.

"Ready." he replied in a low, voice, the words coming out as more of a growl. He then grabbed his cloths, and placed them in his jaws.

"So how are you going to keep out of sight like that?" she asked, glancing around for other humans.

"Simple." he said, his speech kind of muffled from his clothing. "Just stay in the denser parts of the forested areas, and if there's a city, stay on the out skirts."

"Oh. Alright then."

The two then took off in a western direction, Steven now running on all fours, toward Striaton city. Ginger had a tougher time keeping up with him while he was in this form, not being as well built as he was like this, but was pleased to see him slow down a bit to allow her to catch up again. Just before they got to the city, they took a sharp turn into the dense trees that surrounded the city. They kept in the more darker areas, and got past the city without alerting anyone. All except for
a certain being, who was standing on the roof top of one of the apartment buildings of the city.

He was still invisible, had just getting here a few moments ago in search of a resting place. After resting for a few minutes, he was about to move on, but stopped when he sensed a strange presence nearby. He had only broken out of Team Plasma's Castle two hours ago, and had gotten use to his body, but the strange feeling he was getting from this being that was nothing her could create with his powers. There were two beings, a Pokémon which he concluded as a female Mightyena, and something else. It gave off the presence of a beast, but what really confused him was that he sensed a human soul within the
beast, as if it were controlling it. Very curious of what he had come across, he started jumping from roof top to roof top, following after the two.

After cutting through Route 2 as fast as possible, Steven and Ginger had made it to Accumula Town. That's where they stopped, just at the edge of the woods, to take a quick rest. They only needed to cut through this city, make their way across Route 1, and they'd finally be at Nuvema Town.

"We're getting pretty close now." Steven said, taking his cloths out of his mouth so he could pant.

"That's good. I'm starting to get tired." Ginger approved, the soles of her pads starting to hurt a bit from all the running.

Steven was getting pretty excited. Soon he would get to meet Professor Juniper, and choose a Starter Pokémon for his own. He had been thinking a lot about which one hr would choose, but still hadn't made up his mind. A Snivy, which was the Grass type Starter, sounded cool, but everyone that he knew was thinking the same thing, and he didn't want to end up looking like he copied them. Tepig, which was the Fire type Starter, was also pretty cool, and it's third evolved form, Emboar, was a strong ally to have. But then he wouldn't be able to have an Oshawott, which was the Water type Starter. He just kept running the choices through his head, over and over, but couldn't make up his mind. They were all good choices, and he wouldn't mind having anyone of them as a starter.

Just then, they heard a twig snap behind them. At nearly the same time, they both swung their heads to face were the sound had come from. They didn't see anything, but Steven's heightened senses could tell that someone, or something, was definitely there.

"Who's there?" he growled, not taking the fact that someone could have seen him in his wolf form lightly. He was always afraid that someone would one day find out his secret, but he never really thought about how he would react. Most people would most likely turn tail and run away, screaming their heads off. But then there were those who would want to attack him, and kill him, keeping him as a trophy or something.

"If you don't come out, I'm coming in after you..." he threatened again, hoping that would scare them off, and he wouldn't have to hurt anyone.

Staying as quietly as he could, XD-649 watched the two, especially the larger creature. He couldn't grasp what on Earth he was. None of the Pokémon DNA he had matched up with what this thing was, and the fact that it could talk was even more amazing to him. He was actually a bit frightened of it, even though he thought he could take it in a fight, it still sent a shiver down his spine. And yet, something inside him wasn't. There was something about this thing that made it seem gentle. Like all the threats it was pouring out weren't real, and it didn't want to fight. As if this monstrous beast was actually just as scared as he was. He decided to not come out just yet for two reasons. One, he wanted to find out where to two of them were going, and two, he still hadn't found any cloths. But he did take notice that the large beast had a pair with him, for whatever reason.

"Maybe there isn't anyone there..." Ginger whispered to Steven.

"Maybe..." he replied back to her in the same hushed tone. He reached down and grabbed his cloths, placing them in his mouth. He knew there was someone there. He could feel it. But if they weren't leaving yet, that meant one of two things. They weren't afraid of him, but didn't want to risk being attacked, or that they weren't afraid of him, and had a bullet with his name on it... He decided he'd let whoever they were follow them a bit more, thinking that when they did show them self, that's
when he would confront them.

"Let's get going then. I think we only have about five more minutes." she said.

The two then turned and started off past the city. After they were somewhat farther away, the Bio Weapon started after them again.

Steven and Ginger made it into Nuvema Town, having gotten through Route 1 in the blink of an eye. They only had two minutes left if they were going to be on time, and Steven was determined to set a good first impression of himself for the Professor. Quickly ducking behind a bush, he dropped his close onto the ground, and closed his eyes. Ginger stood as watch out for him while he changed back.

In a tree above them, XD-649's mouth went open in sheer awe at what he witnessed next. He
kept his eyes glued on the beast as he watched all of its hair start to disappear, the structure of it turn less animal like by the second and start to look more like a young boy, no much younger then himself. In a matter of a minute, the beast that he had followed here was gone, and in its place stood a blond haired boy. Transformations were not a strange thing for him. After all, he did hold Ditto DNA in him, and it was that DNA that allowed him to take on the form of a young man that he had chosen. But this was new to him. A boy that could turn into a beast, who had ever heard of this? His incredibly genius brain
was stumped.

After finishing his change back to his human self, Steven stretched a bit, and started to get dressed again. He almost freaked out when he glanced at his watch and saw that he had ten more seconds.

"I have to hurry or I'm going to be late!" he yelled, jumping out from behind the bush and dashing as fast as he could into town, trying not to draw attention from anyone, and quickly spotting the Professor's Lab, the biggest building in the small area, and nearly busted down the door when he got to it, opening it without knocking, and rushing in. Ginger just got in before the door closed shut, and took her place next to Steven, looking around.

"Professor Juniper! I'm sorry I was late getting here. Please forgive." he blurted out, bowing his head.

When he looked back up, he saw a bunch of blank and confused faces from people staring back at him, most being from whom looked like they could be the Professor's assistants. He cheeks turned a little red from the powerful feeling of embarrassment that swept over him. Quickly lowering his gaze, he asked the floor if the Professor was here.

"Um... Yes. She is here, and she was expecting you too." came a female voice from the other side of the room. "Good timing. Ten o'clock on the nose."

Looking up to see where the voice had come from, he spotted a women in the back, smiling at him a bit awkwardly. No doubt this was Professor Juniper, and he had just embarrassed himself and her in her own lab. She wore a white lab coat, just like the rest of the scientists, but it was more sky blue in color, and unbuttoned, giving a good look at what she was wearing
underneath. She had a white tank top with a dark green dress skirt. She wore a pair of white slip-ons that had a red and black strip go across the top from side to side. A pair of circular, red ear rings dangled from her ears, and her light brown hair was neatly combed to the side, while the rest was held up on top of her head in an almost wavy look. She was gazing back at him with green eyes, almost causing a shiver to run down his spine. She was rather attractive for a professor. All the other Professors he had heard of were male and rather old. She looked to be almost twenty eight or thirty. He had to restrain himself from starring at her too much. Thankfully, Ginger could smell the faint scent of arousal slowly starting to come off of him, and gave him a gentle nip on the rear, causing him to jump and give her a silent scolding, but snapping him back into his right mind.

"Uh... Thanks, I guess... I apologize for the outburst. It's just I wanted to try and be on time." Steven said rather sheepishly.

"Oh no! I wouldn't have mind you being a little late. I know how far Castelia is from here, and quite frankly, I'm a bit surprised that you did come on time." the professor responded back, a smile on her face. "But one-the-less, it's good to finally meet you, Steven."

Steven couldn't help put blush lightly from the smile, but got over it quickly, and returned it with one of his one.

"So I guess you're here for your Pokémon, right?" Juniper asked, trying to break the awkward silence.

"Oh! Yes." he replied, remembering his reason for coming.

"That's good. I could use the help of a fine, young man like yourself, and that fabulous specimen of a Mightyena you have there." she said, catching Ginger in her sights. "It's rare to see them here. Where did you get her?"

"Who, Ginger?" he asked, looking down at the Dark type, lightly giving her a pet on the head. "Oh, I rescued her from a bad trainer she had three years ago. I never actually caught her, but she's stayed with me every since she was a Poochyena."

"Aww... That's sweet of you. She must really like you." the professor said, not knowing how right she actually was.

"Yup. You could say that." Steven said with a soft chuckle.

"Well then I guess I can trust you with a Pokémon. I'm sure you'll take just as good care of it as Ginger. Did you know which one you would like?"

"Um... Actually Professor... I was wondering if you would choose one for me. I couldn't make up my mind, and they all seemed like great choices, so... I thought you might be able to pick the one you thought would be good for me."

Professor Juniper's eyes widened a bit at that. She had never had a trainer ask her which one SHE would choose. This was a first for her. Looking at the ceiling for a moment, she decided that it would be nice to give this trainer her opinion.

"Okay." she said. "Let me get a look at you for a sec. Then I'll be able to get a good judging of which one would suit you."

Without hesitation, Professor Juniper walked over to Steven and stood in front of him, closing her face in on his and stopping a half a foot away, starring into his dark blue eyes. Ginger was a bit confused at the motion, but just sat down and watched.

"Uh... What are you doing?" Steven asked a bit nervous, feeling a bit awkward being this close to her.

He had never actually been this close to a woman before, besides giving his mother a hug or kiss, but that's different. What was happening now to him was something he didn't expect. His sensitive nose immediately picked up on the perfume that she was wearing. It smelt like a field of wild flowers. He could also pick up the smell of a Minccino, probably her own.

"I'm looking into your eyes, silly. A lot can be told about a person by simply looking into their eyes." Juniper said, still gazing at him.

After what seemed like an hour, but in reality was only a minute, Juniper finally backed her head away, and gave him a smile, which caught him off guard. He was hoping that she hadn't noticed him smelling her.

"Well. I know which one would fit you. And I actually think that he's going to like you too. You both seem quite alike." the professor said, turning around and walking over to a desk that had three Pokéballs on it. Taking the one to the left of the three, she turned back toward the two waiting individuals and walked back and handed the Pokéball to Steven. "Here you go."

"Um... Thanks." he said, taking the Pokéball from her and looking at it. Not wanting to wait to see what was in it, he pushed the button on the ball, causing it to open up, a white flash coming out of the ball and materializing in front of him.

After a second, a small figure stood in front of Steven, opening its eyes and looking up at the person who had called it out. At first the Pokémon didn't know what to make of them, the smell that they were giving off seeming a bit different thenmost of the humans he had seen. Tilting his head to the side and bringing a hand to his chin, he let out a small sound. "...Osh?"

"An Oshawott?" said Steven, a bit confused. He didn't have any objections, and actually liked the thought of having it, but didn't understand why Professor Juniper had chosen it for him.

"Mhm." nodded Juniper. "He's the perfect choice for you."

"But... Why do you think so? I mean..." he replied, looking down at the small otter. "I'll take him. I kind liked the idea of having one. I just don't know why you thought THIS one would be perfect for me."

Turning around with a small giggle, Professor Juniper walked over to her desk to grab a few other things she would have to give him. Ginger, curious about the new friend she would have, moved her head closer to the Water type, sniffing it. Oshawott gave her a look, and smiled, waving a greeting. Ginger smiled, and nodded a greeting back, a bit surprised at how comfortable it was with her. She knew how intimidating she could look sometimes, and found it rather cute how the little guy wasn't scared of her.

"Because." the Professor said, returning with a few objects in hand. "Both of you have the same nature. You're both kind hearted."

"We're both... kind hearted?" he asked, smiling a bit as he watched Ginger and Oshawott become familiar with each other.

"Well that." she added with a grin. "Plus you both seemed to like my perfume."

Steven's eyes when wide as he looked up at Professor Juniper in shock, his face turning bright red. "Y-You... knew?"

Letting out a small laugh, she nodded her head. "No need to be embarrassed. I find it rather nice too."

Smiling sheepishly, he looked down at what she was holding in her hands.

"What are those?" he asked.

"These are also for you." she answered, handing him a hand-held device, and five extra Pokéballs. "The Pokéballs are just to help you catch more members for your team, while this," she pointed at the device. "is your new Pokédex. It will automatically catalogue any Pokémon you come across, and also hold all your Trainer information."

"Wow... Thanks Professor!" he gleamed, very interested in seeing what kind of functions were on his new Pokédex.

Smiling, she gave him a nod of her head and turned back around. "No problem. I kind of have to give every new trainer one of those, but you're welcome." She sat down at her desk, and said one last thing before letting him go. "I wish you luck on your journey, Steven. If you need to contact me, just call me by your... Oh!" she paused, looking at his arm. "You don't have one? Well this won't do... Hold on a second." She then started going through the drawers to her desk.

"Um... What are you looking for?" Steven asked, watching her.

"An Xtransceiver. It looks like a watch, but is really used like a phone and screen. With it, we'll be able to keep in contact with each other. Ah ha!" she exclaimed, holding a hand in the air. In it was what looked like a blue watch. It was kind of square looking, and had a screen instead of the actual watch part. "Come over here so I can put it on you."

Doing as told, he told Ginger to watch Oshawott, and walked over to Professor Juniper. He held out his left hand, so Juniper could put the Xtransceiver beside his watch.

"There we go. You're all set to go." the professor told him.

"Thanks Professor!" he said, admiring his new gadget. "I'll take good care of it."

"No problem. I'll call you a while after you leave to see how it works."

Professor Juniper gave Steven some more information, like where the first gym could be found and to make sure he fed his Pokémon. She also told him to keep an eye out for a suspicious gang that she had been hearing rumors about from the other trainers she had contact with. Giving his thanks and saying he would keep an eye out for anything strange, he said his goodbye, and turned to walk out with his new companion, Oshawott, by his side.

Having been sitting patiently on the roof of the lab, and listening into the whole conversation and events that had happened, XD-649 now knew all the information he needed. The beast that had turned into a boy's name was Steven, and he was a newbie Pokémon Trainer. He had traveled from Castelia City with the Mightyena, whom he had rescued a long time ago, here to get his Starter Pokémon, an Oshawott. The boy was of pure spirit, just like the Professor had said, although she didn't know
about his "strange ability" like he did. XD-649 had made a decision. He was going to ask this boy if he could accompany him on his journey. He didn't really have anywhere else to go, and traveling with Steven might help him hide from Team Plasma, so why not? And at least he wouldn't get bored. He might have been made as a Bio Weapon, but that didn't mean he didn't like company.

Steven held the door open for the two Pokémon as the followed him out of the lab. After closing the door, he turned to his newest member and knelt down to him with a smile.

"Hey little guy. I guess you and me are going to be friends from now on."

"Heh. Good luck with that..." the Oshawott said, putting on a fake smile.

"What? What do you mean by that?" Steven asked, a bit confused.

The Oshawott paused for a sec, giving the human in front of him a strange look. "...Can you understand me?"

"Uh... Yeah. I can." he replied back, itching the back of his head. He knew he was going to have to explain his secret to him if he was going to be traveling with him.

The Oshawott jumped back a sec, almost startled at this. "I knew you smelt strange! Why is it you can understand me?"

"Um... Well you see... I'm..." Steven started to say, but was cut off by a sudden voice that seemed to come from above him.

"He's a beast."

The three paused, and looked around for a sec, Steven looking straight up. "Did you hear something?"

Suddenly there was a thud close by to them, followed by the same voice. "Follow me onto Route 1. You'll look funny talking to yourself out here, don't you think?" Then there was the sound of someone running off.

The three of them looked at each other with confused looks on all of their faces, and then looked off toward Route 1.

"Well..." Steven said, starting to walk toward Route 1. "You guys coming?"

"But Steven. You don't even know who that was. They could be leading you to some kind of trap." Ginger retorted.

"I agree with her in this. You might be getting set up here. It's not all the time you hear "strange voices from beyond" Oshawott added.

"Oh, come on. Ginger, you should already know that I can take care of myself. And Oshawott, you shouldn't be so worried ether. Maybe this thing is friendly." With that, he turned back around and started walking again. The two Pokémon looked at each other one last time, and then ran after Steven to catch up with him.
Chapter End Notes:Sorry if it was a bit long. I had a hard time finding the right spot to stop it. I'm also sorry if I missed any corrections that needed to be done. Rate and comment if you would like. I'm always up to hear what other people think
