Chapter 1-Strange Sight

I sighed heavily as I wandered down the road towards Saffron City. I was pretty glad to get out of Lavender right now, but at the same time, somewhat disappointed. As much as I hated ghost Pokemon, I was honestly hoping to see at least one. All that I did see was some guy dressed up in a Gengar costume that was selling balloons and trying to steal my wallet. I didn't know why so many trainers had decided to stay behind, but I wasn't going to think much about it. That just meant I wouldn't have a line to wait on when I got to Saffron for a gym battle. From the brochures I got in Lavender, it seemed like a nice place to look around to, so I might have ended up doing some sightseeing. Hopefully much more than in the ghost town. I was really looking forward to it. Not only was Lavender Town boring, but so was the road ahead.

At least that was what I was thinking until I heard a loud explosion up ahead of me. I blinked in surprise when I saw a large cloud of smoke rising from a small wooded area to the side of the road ahead of me. Explosions like that usually meant a really heated Pokemon battle was going on; but I didn't see anybody leave town ahead of me. After watching the smoke clear a little, I hurried towards the woods to see if it was over and who I'd possibly be up against sometime in the future.

As if the explosion hadn't surprised me enough, what I saw when I reached the trees was even more disturbing. In a small clearing ahead, I could see several Team Rocket members laid out on the ground. The area smelled heavily of smoked hickory and was charred black from whatever just happened. I checked the bodies to see if the people were all right. It wasn't really like I cared. These guys were criminals who probably deserved whatever came to them, but I could never in good conscience bring myself to leave somebody alone who was badly injured. Luckily, that didn't seem to be the case. Although most of them had singed clothing, they all only got off with minor burns and scrapes. They were all out cold, but they shouldn't have stayed that way for long, which made me think I should get out of there before they came around and maybe report this to the police or something.

I was about to leave when I heard a faint whimper in the area. Taking another look around, I could see ball of brown fur huddled up underneath probably the only undamaged tree in the clearing. I figured it must have been an Eevee since they were pretty well known and often spotted in this area. The poor thing probably wandered into the wrong place at the wrong time. I looked about at the Rockets again and then back to the fur ball, thinking that I should hurry the Pokemon along before they woke up and tried to capture it. I probably would have myself, but I didn't just go capturing anything that walked in front of me; plus I didn't train rares and was happy with the few Pokemon I had with me now.

It was bigger than I thought it was. Much bigger. By the time I reached the tree the ball of fur was under, I realized that the Pokemon could have been almost as tall as me if it uncurled. I gulped as I slowly reached out to touch it, hoping its first instinct wouldn't be to jump up and maul me. The moment my fingers brushed faintly across the fur, a small yelp came from the Eevee as it straightened out...or I had thought it was an Eevee at first. Now I wasn't sure at all. As the figure backed against the tree, I could tell it was a girl, but a girl what? She at least resembled an Eevee, but her form was like a human's. It was like she was some kind of cross between a person and a Pokemon. Her body was completely covered in brown fur from head to toe, and even the bushy tail that was curled around her while she stayed against the tree. She had two pointy fox ears jutting out of her wildly grown shoulder-length blonde hair, which was brown like her fur at the roots. Her face was more canine than human. She had a dog-like muzzle with a black button nose to tip it off. After a few seconds of gawking I realized her jade green hues were studying me as well. She wasn't trembling as much as she had been for some reason, but I could tell by the look in her eyes that she was far from calm.

Seeing how afraid she was made me get over my shock from seeing her. She wasn't exactly a Pokemon I guessed, but that didn't mean I was going to leave her here all the same. When the Rockets came to and found her here, I couldn't imagine what they might do to her. I reached out slowly for her again, which caused her to start trembling as violently as she had been when I first found her; but she was too terrified to move away from the tree. She let out a nervous whimper when I placed my hand on her shoulder and stroked her soft fur gently, but slowly began to calm down again, more than she had been when she first saw me.

"You're gonna be alright." I tried to make my voice as calm and soothing as I could when I spoke to her, trying to assure her that she was safe. I wasn't sure if she understood or not, but it seemed to work. After a few moments, she had stopped trembling completely, letting out a few quiet whimpers. She looked kind of cute when I got used to the unusual sight. She kind of reminded me of drawings one of my friends had drawn of nekos and kitsunes. And if it weren't for the fact that she was humanoid, she probably would have looked just like an Eevee. She even had a cute little white tuft of fur like the Pokemon that started at her neck and trailed down between the cleavage of her breasts...and it was about that time that I had also noticed that she was completely naked as well.

The Eevee-girl stared at me blankly, starting to get nervous again by my sudden reaction when I realized she was clothed in nothing but fur. Maybe somebody else wouldn't have thought much about it, but no matter how I looked at it, she still seemed like a very attractive, yet nude girl. I could feel my face reddening as my eyes stayed locked on her and shook my head quickly, trying to get rid of whatever kind of embarrassment I was feeling. She didn't seem to know what was wrong and now wasn't the time to be thinking about this anyway. The Team Rocket members could probably wake up at any second.

I needed to take her somewhere to get help. The plan was to shoo her off when I first saw her, but I couldn't bring myself to do that now. I wasn't really sure why, but when I looked in her eyes again, I had this strange feeling that she needed to come with me. I wasn't going to take her anywhere how she was though. I tried to calm myself as I brought my hand away from her shoulder and took my backpack off. The girl watched curiously, but stayed close to the tree as if it would protect her if something went wrong. I had to dig pretty deep into my bag, but I finally found one of my T-shirts. I held it up to her and let her get a good look at it to show that I had no tricks up my sleeve, speaking softly again. "I'm gonna get you out of here, but I need you to put this on, okay?"

I wasn't expecting her to understand or do anything really. She examined the shirt, which seemed a bit too large to fit perfectly on her small frame, and then up at me. Our eyes locked with each other once again and I got that strange feeling again. I couldn't explain it at all, nor did I have time to. Rather than taking the shirt, the girl just...well...pounced on me. The next thing I knew, I was on my back with her holding onto me tightly. She whimpered as she ran her tongue over my cheek a few times and then buried her face against the crook of my neck. I could hear her sobbing quietly and frowned. When I think about it, I probably should have been more startled about what just happened; but instead, it was as if I knew how she felt. I didn't know what happened to her, but she was completely terrified and I wanted to do what I could to help. I wrapped my arms around her and gave her a soft hug, then sat up with her in my lap and held out the shirt to her again. We really needed to get out of there.

Once again, she didn't make any motion towards taking the shirt from me so I just put it on her myself. Her ears folded back a little as I fit the collar over her head and then took her by the wrists to guide her arms through the sleeves. I saw another canine trait on her while I was doing that too. She had little black pads on her palms and fingers like a dog; and rather than fingernails like I or any other person would have, she had little black claws at the ends of her fingers. While I was putting my shirt on her, I also noticed something that sparked my interest almost as much as she did. Clamped around each of her wrists, and her ankles as well I noticed a bit later, was an iron shackle. Each of them had a broken chain link on them and there was some dried blood around her wrists so I figured she had escaped from somewhere. What really caught my eye though were the markings on them. I spotted a Team Rocket insignia design engraved into each of them, followed by..."PM.Sub #23"...I had no idea what that meant, but the T.R. emblem was enough to make me suspicious. She was somehow connected with Team Rocket.

The Eevee-girl moved out of my lap as I started to get up and did the same. I was glad to see that the shirt went down to her thighs, so she was pretty covered. The only problem was that it was a bit too big for her around the collar. I wore V-necks a lot and her shoulders weren't as broad as mine, so I couldn't get it to stay up on her. It kept slipping off to one side; and unfortunately it didn't do as good a job over covering her as I thought. A lot of her chest was still visible. I was going to try and find something a bit smaller when I heard a groan behind me. I quickly slung my backpack over my shoulder and held my hand out to the girl. "We need to get out of here fast. They could wake up at any second."

It disturbed me a little how she'd always look deep into my eyes when I spoke to her, as if searching for something. The problem wasn't that she was doing it, but the fact that I was already starting to get used to it. She didn't stare as long this time, possibly noticing the urgent tone in my voice. Her ears twitched a little as she reached out and placed her "paw" in my hand. I immediately led her out of the clearing and back onto the road, making sure to move at a pace where I wouldn't be dragging her, but still moving as fast as I could. Rather than continuing to Saffron City, I started heading back for Lavender since it was closer. The nearer we got to town though, I suddenly realized that she might draw a lot of attention to herself because of her looks. I couldn't do anything to help that right now, but I had to think of something...
