Introduction: This is part four of "Who are we?". Previously in episode 3, several individuals appeared for the first time who will be a common sight. Well I won't be that common a sight, though Chris and Ares will be. Reaching Ecruteak city Kaela took on the appearance of a human female, and later that night they were visited by an unseen visitor carrying a message. The message told them to escape from the city as quickly as possible. In the edge of the forest they met up with Chris and his Pokémon partner Ares. Fleeing through the forest from their pursuers they discovered a portal, through which my Avatar arrived to the sound of bagpipe music. He took on the appearance of Seb and ran off towards the pursuers, Ares reported on what I did to them before leaving through a new portal. Seb & Kaela camped for the night in a cave while Chris and Ares disappeared, Chris promising to meet them in Blackthorn. Seb's chance for some horizontal activities were curtailed by the onlooking Zubat. We begin the next morning as Seb wakes up.

Who Are We (Part 4)?

"What did I do to deserve this?"

I woke up before Kaela in the morning and started to prepare something to eat, I avoided making a fire. No need to advertise our position to the world. Kaela woke up shortly afterwards, still human in appearance. I glanced around the cave, and noticed some Zubat were still active. Bloody perverts, I thought as I went back to my work. Kaela dressed quickly, she looked as good as a human as she did normally, I thought quietly, hiding the thought from her. No need for giving her cause for preening. I liked the roughed up look better than the immaculate at the best of times.

"Sleep well?"

"No! I really wanted to know what it was like for a human during sex. Next time let's just post a sign that says 100 bucks for live show."

"Good idea. Though I doubt the Zubat would have paid."

"Don't remind me about those arseholes. Why couldn't they just leave us in peace?"

" Everyone likes a good show sometimes. In case you haven't noticed some of them are still waiting. And where is that language coming from? I know I'm not responsible."

"The store clerk."

"Ok, next time we're in Ecruteak I'll have to talk to her about teaching you rude words. That was supposed to be left up to me. So how long you planning on remaining like that?"

"Until we get somewhere safe. You'll just have to capture some other Pokémon before we go too far, to train to fight. After all you are a trainer now."

"Hey do you hear anything from the back of the cave?"

"No. Why, is there a problem?"

"Yeah, this cave is teeming with Zubat, and probably Golbat, so why is it silent back there. They will move around in caves during the day."

"I get what you're hinting at. Something is wrong. Well let's go have a look after we eat, I'm starved."

We ate quickly and cleaned up before shouldering our bags and walking deeper into the cave. I finally figured out how to engage my low light vision and looked around. There were very few Zubat, and the Rattata that were here looked more frantic than normal. And we weren't responsible.

"You know Foresight?"

"Yes."

"Good use it."

Immediately as she used it the truth became obvious. I took a step backwards at the sight. Unconcious Zubat, and Golbat littered the ground. A bunch of Gastly hovering over them.

"Kaela, transform back to normal."
I said as I dropped my bag to the ground and activated my armor. I looked over to see her taking on her normal form and putting on her armor, her clothes laying on the ground. The Gastly had noticed up and finished their feast. I realised that they'd been using Dreameater.

~ Kaela Psychic now. ~

The blast of Psychic energy wiped out many of the Gastly but the rest kept on coming.

~ Any other moves up your sleeve? ~

~ Teleport. Metronome. Flash... ~

~ Use Flash. They're Ghost Pokémon, which means that the light will affect them badly almost as badly as it would a Dark type. ~

The bright flash was the opening I needed. I fired the capture device and the hapless Gastly didn't have a chance. It was mine in a heartbeat, too disorientated by the Flash to fight.

~ Now for the grand finalé. Metronome. ~

I looked away from her as she began the attack. It resulted in a Whirlwind attack that blew away the remaining Gastly. Lucky break. I put the Pokéball onto my waist beside Kaela's. Now I had a companion apart from her. Kaela took back on her human form and redressed.

"A lucky break. Now you have a Gastly to fight with, most people would prefer not to fight Ghost types."
I released the Gastly from it's ball and watched it carefully. It made no attempt to do anything. It just floated there looking at me, it seemed impressed for some reason.

~ Well done trainer. We are glad you caught us, you were worthy. You out witted us, not just overpowered us. ~

The way it thought, said everything, a sort of vocal chorus. I'd caught a Gastly with a multiple personality disorder. Which meant I had no real way of knowing what sort of attacks it could use, since the different personalities would often have their own attacks that differed from the rest.

"I think we hit some bad luck, myself. I've no idea what it's capable of until I try to command it to do something."
We left the cave. All of the attacked Pokémon would recover without assistance. I put the Gastly back into it's Pokéball, I didn't really like the thought of running into one of it's less likeable personalities right now. We crossed the ground quite quickly really, taking our bearings off Mount Mortar, and the still visible Tin Tower in Ecruteak city. We got back on the road near Mahogany town and ran into a Pokémon trainer.

"Hey you're a Pokémon trainer as well? Let's battle then!"

"Kid I like your enthusiasm, but are you certain you're up to it?"

"Let's find out. 1 Pokémon each."

"Fair enough. I tried to warn you. Pick your Pokémon kid."

"Go Croconaw."

"Not a bad choice. It's a shame I've only got one to make on my own behalf. Go Gastly."

"Hey what's in your other pokéball?"

"A Pokémon that can't fight at the moment. Now lets battle. Gastly, tackle."
Gastly hit the Croconaw hard but didn't do much damage. Not a good start, but I had an idea of where to go to from here.

"Croconaw, Water gun."

"Gastly quick hit it with your hypnosis."
Gastly's hypnosis took effect quicker than Croconaw could prepare to attack. This was a little too easy.

"Gastly, Dream Eater."

"Come on wake up Croconaw."
The Croconaw stirred briefly, as the girl spoke but didn't wake up immediately. Dream Eater had been effective though. I could see the glazed look on it's face as it stood back up.
"Gastly, lick."

"Croconaw, bite."
Gastly flinched as the Croconaw tried to bite it. The attack hadn't actually hurt it much though, but there was a wasted attempt at an attack for me.

"Gastly try again. LICK!"
This time it got through and licked the Croconaw with ease. I saw stiffness begin to set in, paralysis had taken hold as well.

"Gastly do your thing."
Gastly moved off, and I thought I'd made a mistake and then I saw what was happening. Too late the girl realised as well.

"No! Croconaw, get out of the way."
The ice beam hit the Croconaw full on and dropped it with ease. How had the Gastly gotten Ice Beam? One of the personalities?

"Gastly return. I'm sorry, I only just caught Gastly and I had no idea it knew Ice Beam until now."

"It's alright. You did try to warn me off fighting you. I'll head in to the Pokémon centre with you. So long as you'll help me move my Croconaw."

"We'll help alright. I'm Kaela and this is Seb by the way."

"I'm Zoe. It's nice to meet you, here I was trying to get some battle experience for my Croconaw, and I got beaten by a newly captured Pokémon. I'm on my way back to New Bark town for a while."

"We're heading the same way. We're meeting up with some friends in Blackthorn though you're more than welcome to travel with us after we leave Mahogany if you'd like."
I said without even thinking about it. Not that it really mattered, company would be nice, and it'd change our profile entirely, and help to keep us from being noticed.

"Thanks. It's always good to have someone to talk to when you've been on your own so much. Now how are we going to move him?"

"Leave that to me. I should be able to lift him on my own."
I picked up the Croconaw without too much trouble and rested the frozen lizard on my shoulder as we walked into town. What a way to meet people, this training of Pokémon was.
