The Five Eons by scion_umbranos

Dreamer

Tonight was to be the big night, or so my father told me a few days ago. Me, Solara, and everyone else was going to make a great escape from the radio tower, Goldenrod, and from human life as we know it. I lay snuggled up against my mate, happy I was with her once again and not angry at her any more. It had hurt to hear her say that, but it hurt even more to force myself to hate her, and now also not to hate Flare for toying with my heart like that.

I had told him what I thought about what he did, and got so angry I was about to strike him. But I realized at that moment that if he hadn't have done that, I'd have most likely not made it through some of my missions. I had shaken my head and just left him there, crying quietly, now with myself feeling horrible about it.

"Scion...is everything alright?"

I blink and shake myself out of my thoughts.

"Mh? Oh...yeah, just...thinking about yesterday..."

"With Flare?"

"Yeah...I feel really bad now for how angry I got at him..."

"You had a right to Scion, there's nothing wrong with what you did."

I sigh and nuzzle Solara.

"Yeah, but if it hadn't have been for him, I wouldn't be around to love you any more."

"Oh..."

I nod, letting her rest her head against my neck while I lay mine atop of hers, getting a quiet purr out of her. My eyes close as I murr right along with her, content in being with my mate once more, despite what happened in the past. Her long tail twines with my own, the prongs wrapping around the glowing ring in the middle, making my heart flutter for a moment.

"Hello you two love Pidgeys."

I blink my eyes open and look to see Vaporia standing there, a silly grin on her face.

"Oh, hey Vaporia."

She giggles and plops down across from us, rolling onto her side and curling up with her head propped up on her large tail.

"You two done getting ready for tonight?"

I nod, as does Solara.

"Yeah, everything's ready, and...I got the TM..."

I wince, not having wanted to use it, but the plan depended on its use. The TM was Toxic, my species' special move. Sure, almost every pokemon could use that technique, but for an Umbreon it was different. When we use it, we can fill an entire football field with the toxic gas, making it our most deadly and accurate attack.

The plan was that all the doors were to be unlocked, and I would use the attack, filling the entire complex with the gas. While it wouldn't be lethal to everything, it would make a very good distraction when accompanied by Jolt blowing out the power grid for the entire city.

"When does it all start?"

"Midnight. It's when most of us are strongest."

I nod slowly and look at the wall clock, it was now noon.

"We should rest up, we'll need the strength in case something goes wrong..."

She nods and trots off, most likely heading to the Eevee kits, who had had kits of their own recently. Unfortunately...they were mine. I sigh at the thought and look at Solara, she had grown quite rotund in her own pregnancy, and I knew they were mine. Something about her made me think it, just the way she seemed to glow, maybe the way she smiled at me, or the tender licking she used when grooming her belly.

Whatever it was, I felt a joy run through me at the thought that I would soon be a father. Me, who had never found a human female attractive enough to catch my interest. Everyone had thought I would be a single male, just living with my pokemon for the rest of my life, and that had suited me just fine. Especially now, considering I was going to do just that, but with a beautiful mate instead of being single.

Solara gives me a tender nuzzle and I lick her cheek softly, murring quietly from the feel of her velvety fur against my tongue. I would never get tired of being with her, she was everything I could ever hope for, everything I've dreamed of in a girl...including the fur and tail.

If this plan worked, and we got free, my life would be perfect, like one out of a fairy tale. Where happily ever after was true, and love would overcome everything. I smirk a little to myself, thinking how sappy that all had sounded, but it was true, and I knew it. I closed my eyes and curled protectively around my mate, locking her in my warm embrace before drifting off to sleep, Umbreons not supposed to be awake during this hour anyway.

I awoke to a nip on my ear, making me jump up, totally awake now and looking at Solara.

"It's time now, lets go!"

She was talking in a hasty whisper and I nod, leading her through the corridors to our meeting place, where Jolt and Vaporia were waiting for us, Flare arriving right behind us.

"It's about time you guys got here, we're almost ready, just need those masks."

Solara nods and puts a paper mask around everyone's muzzle except for mine, me being immune to my own toxin. When they each have their masks on, the clock on the wall strikes midnight. They all look to me and I nod.

"Ready?"

They nod and Flare turns down his temperature so that the toxic doesn't combust from his heat.

"Alright..."

I take a deep breath and concentrate on every toxic pore on my body, feeling a poisonous energy gather there, waiting for release. I hold it in until it feels like I'm going to pop, then release it with a small whimper.

Purplish black gas floods into the room and quickly spreads into the whole complex. We wait a few moments before making a break for it, me staying with Solara from her limited speed, due to what she is carrying. A guard comes out of a room in front of us, coughing and hacking and sees us, he shouts an alarm and throws out a pokeball.

Out pops a Grimer, who is immune to the poison as well. It prepares to attack when it's blasted onto the trainer, who looks now like he got sneezed on by a Muk. I look back and smile at Solara, happy she's with me and not someone else.

We continue running through the corridors as fast as she could, but I could see she was tiring quickly, and it worried me. I see the exit and also see a pair of grunts guarding it. They each send out a Zangoose, and I know I'm in trouble now. Both of them are immune to poison, and are a lot stronger than me, and I bet one of them has a fighting type move.

Solara stands beside me, ready to fight as well.

"Let's beat them and get out of here, quickly!"

I nod in agreement and our battle commences. One Zangoose charges me with its claws outstretched, while the other charges Solara. I let out a loud growl that stalls the Zangoose's attack, but gives me enough time to pound him with a faint attack, striking him dead on in the chest.

He snarls at me and slashes at my side, cutting two long red lines and making me yelp in pain and back off. Apparently fighting close range wasn't smart, so let's try long range. I concentrate like Solara had shown me and send that concentration in a blast of Psychic at the Zangoose, catching him off guard and sending him crashing through the wall, out cold.

I look over to see Solara having trouble with hers, the one she was fighting had got in close and was missing her by a hair each time he swung his claws.

"Solara!"

I cry out to her, knowing she was going to be torn to shreds if this kept up. I used a second faint attack and rammed my head against the Zangoose's side, sending him stumbling back. He lashes his claws out and catches my muzzle, a pair of lines being opened up on my muzzle, which makes me yelp once more and jump back.

His grin is erased as Solara throws him against the wall with Confusion and does the same for their trainers before they can get another pokemon out. With that we make a break for the outside world and run along the deserted streets, which would most likely become busy after the alarm sounded off.

It did shortly after we got out of the city, and a flamethrower was seen a distance away, showing the others had made it out. Me and Solara gave a cry of joy as we kept running, heading for the nearest forest to hide out in and live our lives.

Hours passed while we wandered a forest that wasn't even on the map, looking for a den to call our own. My mate had given me signs that we had better find one soon, unless I wanted to guard her out in the open while she was helpless giving birth. A faint mew from beside me made me panic a little and I scanned our immediate area for a den, a hole in the ground, anything to give us some cover.

At last, I spotted it, a small den under a large tree, I hurried Solara over to it and she clambered inside with a little effort because of her large belly. I make to crawl in after her, but she pushes me back out.

"No, you stay outside and guard this place until I tell you to come in."

I nod with a little disappointment, wondering what this 'miracle of life' was supposed to be, but resign myself to laying in front of the den entrance and making a guard out of myself while I hear mrowls and mews from inside the small hole. I look in worriedly, but she growls and I back off with a surprised yip.

After an hour of waiting and pacing, she finally pokes her head out of the den, a tired smile on her lips, but her eyes shine with joy.

"Come on in, they're here..."

I wag my tail with joy and get up, making my way towards the den. Solara crawls back inside, crooking her tail for me to follow, I do so and then...everything starts to get blurry and fuzzy. My vision gets steadily lighter until it's nothing but a white light I see in front of my eyes, which then turns to a dull red.

I open my eyes, realizing they were closed against the sunlight. I sat up suddenly and looked around. I was in a hospital room, a table to the side holding a vase of flowers with a card that said "Get Better" from all of my friends and family.

I was human again, was...it all just a dream? I look down at my lap to see Solara curled up there, lines etched on her cheeks from tears of worry. She stirs suddenly at my sudden movement and looks up at me.

"Espe?"

I just stare at her, feeling my heart sink to a new low. Everything that had just happened, Solara, Flare, Vaporia, Jolt...was it all just a dream?
