Arriving at the Island

Welcome back, good to see you again. Truth be told, I'm a little bored today. You've given me something to do, so thank you. I think I left off when we were on the boat...

I woke up very late the next day, almost noon. We had reached the island while I was still asleep. I saw no sign of Catherine, Greg, and Ryan. I yawned and looked around the small cabin. I saw Peter sitting on a chair reading his book. He heard my yawn and looked down at me.

"Finally awake, are you?" he said.

"Yeah" I replied.

"The others are waiting outside for us. Aaron didn't want to wake you up, so I stayed here to let then know when you did. How are your legs feeling?"

"Okay, I guess. My hind leg's kind of sore."

"Alright, I'll go get Aaron."

He closed the book and ran outside. Aaron came into the cabin a moment later.

"Hey, how do you feel?" he asked as he entered.

I nodded to him to answer his question. I didn't know how else to tell him that I was alright. He gently grabbed under my shoulders and lifted me up and carried me out of the cabin. I looked at the island's terrain as he carried me onto the shore. We were on a long beach that probably surrounded the entire island. There was a dense jungle behind the beach. I could hear the sounds of several different creatures coming from the jungle.

"Okay, are we all ready?" Aaron asked.

Everyone nodded to him, and we began our exploration. Greg ran ahead of the group and pushed into the trees. The rest of us soon followed him. I looked around as we hiked through the trees. I saw some birds fluttering between them. I noticed a black shape move in the distance towards the top of one of the trees. Birds suddenly shot out of the area. I heard a large amount of angry caws and shrieks from up there. I watched as the dark shape moved swiftly down the tree. It leapt off over us and used its large claws to latch onto another tree. I saw what it was as it passed over. It was a Sneasel. It must have chased the birds from their nest to take the eggs.

"OW!" I heard. I looked over to see who said it and saw Ryan lying face-down in the dirt. Peter was laughing at him as he tried to help him stand up.

"How didn't you see that root, Ryan? I could see it long before you tripped on it" he said.

Ryan slowly stood up, brushing himself off. He laughed at the situation too. I saw the root in question and I had a hard time stifling my laughter. The thing was huge, almost up to my eye level had I been standing next to it.

"You alright?" Peter asked him.

"I'm fine" he replied.

We continued wandering through the jungle. Hours passed as we traveled aimlessly between the trees. Aaron stopped. I looked to my left to see what made him stop so suddenly. I saw a tree in front of us, but there was a straight stick with a feather attached to it sticking out from the trunk. Aaron walked over to it and pulled the stick out from the tree.

"An arrow?" he said examining it. "There must be natives here."

"Nope, not natives, young man" a voice said. "I see you travel with these beasts, and for that you are going to come with me."

A tall man in a green uniform stepped out from behind a tree.

"Who are you, and what do you want from me?" Aaron asked this stranger.

"You'll find out soon enough, kid. Now come along, I don't have all day."

"I'm not going with you."

"I think you will." He snapped his fingers and four more humans emerged from the trees, all wearing similar green uniforms. They surrounded us. Greg took up a defensive stance in front of Aaron. Ryan also prepared for a fight, along with Catherine and Peter. They formed a square around Aaron. "You wish to fight us? Very well then, suit yourselves." He snapped his fingers once again.

Immediately, the four uniformed humans charged towards us. Greg drew in a breath and released it as an Ember attack, burning the human in front of him. Greg then pounced at him, knocking him onto his back. I looked to see their leader pull something from his pocket. I tried to alert Aaron to this, and seeing no other way aside from making a lot of noise, I smacked my front right paw into his chest. The act brought a fresh wave of pain into my body. Aaron looked down at me and I pointed my other paw towards the man. Aaron looked up to see the man with a round object in his hand. He threw it at us, smacking Ryan in the side of the head, knocking him out. The object burst open, releasing a gas around us. I suddenly felt very drowsy. I noticed Catherine fall over. My vision was clouded by darkness.

I woke up, finding all of us but Aaron inside a large cage. I looked around, trying to see if there was any way out. I was the only one of us awake. I looked at Ryan to see that he was bleeding slightly from the side of his head. Catherine stirred next to me. She sat up, opening her eyes and looking around.

"Delta, do you know where we are?" she asked me.

"No, I don't" I answered.

"What happened back in the jungle?"

"The guy that called the others threw something at Ryan and it put us all to sleep. They must have brought us here."

She continued to look around the cage. "Where's Aaron?"

"I don't know. They might be keeping him somewhere else."

"QUIET IN THERE!" a voice boomed out from outside the cage. I snapped my head around to see a very large man wearing the same green uniform as the others. He was carrying a large metal pipe in his hands. "The boss says no talking."

I looked back at Catherine. She shrugged and stared back. "What should we do?" I asked her.

The man outside the cage smashed the metal pipe into the bars of the cage. An incredibly loud sound resonated from the point. It was almost deafening. My ears were ringing for a long time afterwards. "I SAID BE QUIET!" the man hollered at us.

Peter shot awake at the sounds that just rang out. He looked around, confused. He opened his mouth to speak, but Catherine quickly leapt at him to silence him. She stared into his eyes and shook her head. Peter got the message and relaxed. Catherine sat down once again. Peter looked over to see Ryan. He stood up and examined his wound. He raised his head and looked around the cage, his eyes resting on a small pile of leaves in the corner which had fallen from the tree nearby. He pulled a thin, but long leaf from the pile and returned to Ryan's side. He lifted Ryan's head and wrapped the leaf around it, covering the wound. He licked the end of the leaf and stuck it to the base, holding it in place. He removed his paw from the leaf, and it stayed in the form he put it in.

The man outside the cage turned his attention away from us as another showed up. Catherine stealthily sneaked over to the pile of leaves. She examined the metal bars for a moment. I saw a small smile appear on her face. She looked back at the rest of us. Whatever thought was going through her mind must have been put on hold, because she returned to us and sat down.

The large man turned back to us, then left to follow the other. I was curious to know what Catherine was thinking before, and since the man had left us, we were free to talk.

"Catherine, what were you doing over there?" I asked her.

"I found a weak spot on some of the bars" she said with a sly smile. "If our group wasn't in such bad shape, I could probably break them with my Pound attack."

"You found a way out?" Peter asked.

"Yep. But like I said, I don't think we'd get very far considering Delta can't walk and Ryan's out cold."

"True. If Greg were awake, he could carry Delta, but there's no telling when he'll wake. We'd have to wait for Ryan to regain consciousness. I don't think Greg could carry both of them."

A low groan was audible. I looked to see Ryan slowly moving his head. He brought a paw up to where he was wounded. He seemed a bit surprised to find the leaf attached to his head. Peter walked over to him.

"Hey. How's your head feel?" he asked him. Ryan slowly sat up, rubbing his head.

"It hurts a lot. What happened?" Ryan groaned.

"You got hit with something that let off a gas afterwards. It knocked you out, but the gas put the rest of us to sleep" Peter explained to him.

"Oh. Is everyone okay?"

"So far. Greg's still asleep though."

"Or so you thought" Greg said, opening his eyes. Peter jumped when he heard his voice, spinning around. "So Cathy, you know a way out I hear."

"Yes, I do" she answered. "Ryan, do you think you can walk?"

"Yeah, just give me a minute."

"Anyone have any ideas where Aaron might be?" Peter asked.

"Not a clue" Greg answered.

"Nope" came from Catherine.

I looked outside the cage. I could see a small building off in the distance.

"What about you, Delta? You have any idea where he might be?" Peter asked me.

"Um...well, he might be in that building over there" I said, pointing my good paw at the building.

"Maybe. We won't know if we don't check."

"Cathy, why don't we get this party started?" Greg said.

Catherine looked over to Ryan, seeing him getting to his paws. She crept back to the spot she'd found earlier. She stepped back to the opposite side of the cage. She charged forward, jumping up and turning around. She smacked her tail into the bars and bounced off. She landed a foot away from where she struck. She stood up and turned to face it. She walked over to inspect the bars once more. She touched one and it fell out of its position. She in turn touched the surrounding bars, each of which easily slid out of place.

"Impressive" Ryan said. Catherine turned her head away from us, but before she could, I could see she was blushing. She took a few deep breaths and turned back to the side of the cage. She stepped out through the hole she had just created. Greg walked over behind me and picked me up by the scruff of my neck and swung me onto his back. Lucky for me, he swung me to his right, so my left side hit him. He carried me out through the hole, followed closely by Peter and Ryan.

"You said he was in there?" Greg asked me, indicating the building I mentioned earlier.

"I said I think he might be in there" I answered.

"Well, let's get moving" Peter said from the back of the group.

We made our way over to the building, making sure not to be seen by any of the guards. When we reached it, Peter jumped up to open the door. He grabbed the knob, turning it and pushing back against the frame with his hind paw. He dropped off the door and crept inside. He motioned for the rest of us to follow him. I looked around the building as Greg entered. It was dark in there, the only light coming from a small lamp hanging from the center of the ceiling. The building was more like a large room, there were no walls aside from the four that made up the sides of the building. Peter crept along, searching the dark room for any sign of Aaron. I heard a familiar voice as Peter walked around a table.

"Peter! Over here" Aaron whispered. Peter turned to see Aaron sitting in a small cell on one side of the room. All of us sneaked over to him, careful not to make a sound. "How did you guys get out?"

Peter pointed at Catherine, who was standing behind him. "Cathy? You did it? I'm so proud of you!"

She stood still for a moment, and I'm sure if there was more light, she could have been seen blushing once again. She walked up to the cell and examined the bars, searching for a weak point like she did with our cage. She stopped and stepped away from the cell. She charged forward and used her Pound attack on the bars. This time, however, she hit them with enough force to not only break them, but the broken parts were knocked out of their respective bars. The pieces clanged loudly on the stone floor. I could hear voices outside of the building, and the door opened. Three people in green uniforms rushed into the room. Greg reached around and took me off his back, setting me gently on the cold floor. He got into a battle stance, ready to fight off these humans. Peter joined him with Catherine at his side. The three humans came closer to us, the one in front pulling something off his belt. I couldn't see it very well in the dim light, but I could make out its shape. It was what humans call an ax.

"Looks like these beasts wanted to die before their execution" he said. "And if that's what they want, then let's give it to them."

I was scared for my life and the lives of my friends at that time. I think we need some suspense here, so I'm going to cut off for now. Come by again later and I'll tell you what happened. Good bye for now.
