Prologue
I don't know if I'm supposed to put my useless warning in or not, so I'll play it safe. This story is rated NC-17, don't read if you're under 18...blah blah blah, may be offensive, and all that junk.
Officer-in-training Bryce Hopewell was driving down the rain-slicked roads of Route 119 on his dark blue WindBlaze 1000 motorcycle. It was near midnight, and he'd been at Lilycove City all day visiting family.
He fought to keep his eyes open as he cruised down the road at a quick 80 mph. There was a storm that was supposed to hit soon, and he didn't want to be caught out in it on a motorcycle. Even with a helmet, black coat, and jeans, it got pretty cold at night.
Even the white hue of the creature's white fur didn't keep Bryce from hitting it. Before he knew what happened, he was sent flying through the air, and hit the ground, his books spilling all over the road. He picked them up, and walked his bike over to the side of the road. He stumbled over something. It was an Absol, seemingly fine, but unconscious.
He removed a flashlight from the toolbox on the side of his bike, and looked it over. There wasn't anything broken that Bryce could see, and he tried lifting the Absol from the street. It lifted easily, and he carried it over to his bike. He captured it in a Pokeball, and drove off to a Pokemon center.
"Did you find it like this?" Nurse Joy asked.
"No, I hit it with my motorcycle. It was crossing the street, and I didn't see it. I know Absol are supposed to glow in the moonlight, but she must've been sick."
"Well she doesn't seem sick, but I'd like to keep her here for tonight to make sure. You can pick her up tomorrow," she said, carrying Absol into the back room.
"She's not mine. Like I said, I hit her with my motorcycle. She must be wild."
"Well, then don't worry about picking her up, I'll just let her go."
"Wait! I guess...I could keep her..." Bryce said, trailing off.
"So you're accepting ownership?" Nurse Joy asked.
"I guess."
"Very well. She should be healthy when you pick her up tomorrow at noon."
Bryce winced. That was when he took the bar exam. "Could you hold her here? I'm taking the bar exam to become an officer then."
"Alright," she sighed.
Bryce thanked her, and left the Pokemon center to return home. He noticed that it had started raining. Well, at least the Absol was alright. But that wasn't what concerned him the most, he still had some studying to do.
He fell asleep at around 3 in the morning, and woke up at 10. He yawned, and made a pot of coffee as he reviewed his notes. After studying for a month, the test should be a piece of cake.
He was wrong.
First question was simple: What is the maximum limit for a speeding citation?
I've got this...I've got it...What? No! I'm drawing a total blank here! Dammit! He thought to himself. He'd studied all month! How could he possibly forget everything he'd studied? Then he remembered from his book. "If a vehicle is traveling more than 10 miles per hour over the limit, pull them over."
Next question: What is the proper amount charged for a faulty taillight citation?
Simple. It's...SHIT! Wait, no, it's $200. Gotta calm down.
Bryce took a couple deep breaths, and glanced at the clock. 48 questions in another hour and a half? No problem.
After a long session of forgetting and remembering, he arrived at the last question with fifteen minutes to spare. Last question: When involved in an undercover operation, what is the most important thing to remember?
Think of something...think of something...nothing. Let's see. Undercover operations are usually drug busts, so I guess it'd be to always have a weapon, Bryce thought. But that didn't seem like the right answer. He wracked his brain for the correct response. Duh, not slipping up and revealing that you're an officer.
He finished his exam, and flipped it over. Already he was nervous. He spent the last ten minutes figuring out how he was going to handle his new Absol. He couldn't just kick her out onto the street, but he wasn't sure he'd be able to pay for her. He was still a cop-in-training until he got his badge. If he got his badge.
You did fine. Don't worry about the exam. Bryce told himself. The police chief rung the bell on his desk, and there was several answering clacks on the desks as the students dropped their pencils.
"Pass your answer sheets forward," the chief said, walking by each row. They passed up the sheets, followed by the test booklets. "The results will be posted today at 5 on the Precinct bulletin board. Those of you that pass the test will report to the precinct on Friday at 7:30 PM to receive your badge. Those of you that didn't pass the test will report to Mauville University campus in June. You may leave."
Bryce hung back for his friend Nate Bryant.
"How d'ya think you did?" Nate asked as they left the precinct building and went to the parking lot.
Bryce shuddered. "I drew a blank on every question. I'm sure I passed though, I aced the Oral and Physical sections a couple days ago," he said, mounting his bike and starting the engine.
"Hey, I'm hungry. Let's grab some lunch before we head over to see our results," Nate offered, mounting his own bike, though a less-powerful Honda 750.
"I can't, I gotta pick up my Pokemon from the center."
Nate laughed. "Since when do you own Pokemon?" They both drove out of the parking lot of the precinct, and headed for the main area of the city.
"Since I hit one on my bike last night. I think it screwed up my front wheel," Bryce said, pointing to his front wheel. Sure enough, it was wobbling slightly.
"I'll go with you; I've got an Espeon I need to pick up. What kind of Pokemon is it?" Nate asked as they got on the Interstate.
"It's a female Absol. I didn't see it when it was crossing the road and I went flying through the air."
Bryce pulled into the Pokecenter's parking lot, and killed the engine. Both he and Nate walked in, and waited in line.
"What'd you do to Espeon?" Bryce asked quietly.
"Damn," Nate said, changing the subject, "Nurse Joy sure looks tired."
Indeed she did. She had dark bags under her bloodshot eyes. Bryce hoped that the Absol didn't keep her up. Finally he was next in line.
"I'm here to pick up the Absol I brought in," he said.
Nurse Joy sighed. "That Espeon kept me up all night. Apparently she was...energetic."
Bryce's eyes shot open, and he glared at Nate, who shrugged.
"S'not my fault Neko can't keep calm," he said, "there's a damn stray Espeon that keeps tapping at the window, which got her all wound up. I prescribed a special depressant, but it had...severe side-effects."
"I TOLD you marijuana smoke wasn't good for them!" Nurse Joy shouted.
Bryce sighed. There was no way he was hearing this conversation.
Nurse Joy giggled. "Sorry, I forgot you were here. You needed the Absol, right?"
"Yeah," Bryce said.
Nurse Joy disappeared behind a door adorned with a large Pokeball, and returned with an Absol, fully awake. She walked under the table and sat down next to Bryce. Her white fur was neatly brushed, and she looked quite healthy. He absentmindedly stroked the fur on her head. She murred and looked up at him.
Bryce led Absol to his bike, and remembered Nate had to pick up his Espeon.
Leaning against his bike, he glanced at his watch. 3:00. He tapped his foot impatiently. Soon after, Nate emerged with a lavender furred Espeon at his side.
she asked.
"Yes. No more self-prescriptions," Nate said, hanging his head.
Nate sent Espeon into a Pokeball. He tossed another to Bryant.
"Do you think you'll be able to carry her in your pocket?" he asked, mounting the bike and taking off.
Bryce sent Absol into a Pokeball and slipped the ball into his pocket. He started up his bike and followed Nate to Mauville Square, where they pulled up to the bike rack and locked their bikes up. Bryce released Absol from her Pokeball, and pocketed it.
Nate did the same, and they walked through the square to the food court.
"So tell me how you hit that Absol again?" Nate asked.
Bryce sighed. "It was an accident. She dashed across the street. It was midnight, and I was tired. I spent the entire day studying at the library and visiting family." He stroked the fur on Absol's head again. "Besides, I think she's forgiven me."
Bryce suddenly felt a warmth surge through his body as Absol looked up at him. Bryce took that as a yes, and he chuckled.
Bryce's good mood was interrupted when someone came up from behind and shoved him. Bryce broke his fall by rolling on the pavement.
"Hey jackass," some trainer said, "your Absol looks like mine. You'd better hand him over!"
Bryce straightened himself up. "You've made two errors. All Absol look alike, and this particular Absol is a female."
"Whatever. Hand her over!" the trainer said, hurling a Great Ball.
Bryce simply kicked away with such precision that it reflected and hit the trainer square in the face. He staggered backward, and brandished another Pokeball. He released a Houndoom.
"Get that damn trainer!" he shouted, pointing at Bryce. Nate ordered Neko to attack with Confusion, but the Houndoom dodged the attack and used Take Down, which connected, sending the Espeon flying into a tree. Bryce was focused on the flying Espeon that he hadn't noticed the Houndoom charging towards him.
Its shoulder slammed into Bryce's chest, knocking the wind out of him. It pressed a paw against his throat, cutting off his windpipe. He suddenly felt an untold rage and strength as Absol's anger and concern for him grew. He threw the large dog off of him, and stood up, adrenaline surging through him. Absol was standing next to him, a deep growl emitting from her throat, and the scythe on her head sharp as a razor.
The trainer laughed, "You think that one weakling can defeat a huge Houndoom?"
someone shouted. Bryce turned and saw Absol staring at him.
Unfortunately he didn't pay attention as the Houndoom used Flamethrower. The ball of flame was headed for him. Bryce rolled to the side, and both he and Absol dashed forward. Bryce leapt off of Absol's shoulders and vaulted over the four foot tall beast.
Once Bryce was over the Houndoom's head, Absol jumped forward, and brought her claws into its side. It roared, and rolled, pinning Absol to the sidewalk. The large beast's head rocketed downward, headed for her jugular. She turned her head, the scythe on her temple cutting through the dog's muscle. It howled in pain, and reeled back. She lunged again, the Houndoom's blood dripping from the scythe. Her claws sank into the Houndoom's shoulder, causing another roar of pain. She was momentarily deafened by the sudden roar, and felt teeth grab the blade on her head.
With a hard yank, the Houndoom dislodged the claws, and threw Absol to the ground. They circled each other, growling, baring their fangs.
Bryce planted a solid kick to the trainer's face, knocking him on his back. The trainer kicked Bryce's leg out from under him. He recovered with a handspring, Absol's rage still flowing through him as well as his own.
"You're a freak! Houndoom! Help me out!" the trainer shouted when he saw the rage flying through Bryce's eyes as he kicked the trainer in the stomach and brought his knee into the trainer's nose. The large dog tried to respond to the trainer's distress, but Absol darted in front of it, keeping it occupied.
The trainer threw a punch at Bryce, which he grabbed, pulled him forward, and tripped him. The trainer fell forward, and Bryce was on him and pinned both arms behind his back. The Houndoom managed to get past Absol and charged into Bryce, knocking him away.
Absol leapt onto the Houndoom's back, and slashed at its neck with her claws, and place her scythe over its throat. When it tried to throw her off, she growled, pretty much saying, "you do and I'll slit your throat."
The trainer called the Houndoom back after surrendering when Bryce had him in a headlock, and ran off. Suddenly the intense rage subsided, leaving Bryce light-headed. He lost his balance, but was steadied by Nate.
Absol came over to him, limping slightly in her foreleg.
"Are you alright?" he asked, kneeling down. There wasn't any injury, but she still limped.
she said,
"Oh sure, go right to the Absol, meanwhile my Espeon might have a concussion," Nate complained.
Bryce ignored him. "Well, I've got a bandage in a toolbox at my bike, so stay here with Nate and Espeon while I go get it," Bryce said, jogging back to his bike. He opened the box on the side, and extracted a roll of bandage and some tape.
He went back to Absol, who still had her right foreleg raised off the ground. Bryce wrapped it in the bandage, and secured it with the tape.
"That'll have to do until we get to a store where I can buy a Potion," he said, pocketing the tape and bandage.
Absol said, as the group continued as if nothing happened. They arrived at the food court at 3:30, and ate quickly. They got done at about 4:15, and started heading back.
"Shit. I got to get a Potion for Absol. Nate, you go on ahead. I'll be with you in a second." Bryce and Absol headed for the mall, and walked inside. He bought a Potion for $20, and left the store. Bryce carefully removed the bandage from Absol's leg, and sprayed the Potion on her ankle.
She licked his cheek. she said.
Bryce smiled and tossed the bandage and empty Potion bottle in a trash can. They walked back to Bryce's motorcycle, and Absol returned into her Pokeball. Nate had already left, so Bryce put the ball in his pocket, returned the bandage and the tape to the toolbox, and left to the Precinct to view his results.
Bryce arrived at the Precinct, parked his bike, and walked inside. There was a throng of students already there, crowded around the list of names along with their scores. Nervousness attacked Bryce as he scanned the sheet for his name.
Hopewell, Bryce

Bryce sighed and leaned against the wall. He left the precinct building and went home in high spirits. There were other people leaving, groaning and complaining with sullen looks of disappointment on their faces. Tomorrow at 7:30 PM, he was a licensed Mauville Police Officer.
Bryce parked his bike in his small cabin's garage, and walked in. He saw that the wood tray for the fireplace was empty. He went out to the woodshed, and gathered some logs and kindling. He locked the door behind him, tossed his keys in the ceramic bowl near the door, plugged his cell phone in the wall to charge, and went to his living room.
Bryce wadded some newspapers up and stuffed them under the grate. He loaded the small twigs on the grate, and piled the logs on top. He grabbed the grill lighter from the top of the mantle, and lit the paper. The dry twigs burned quickly, and soon he had a large fire going.
His cabin was small, but it was warm. Outside, there was a large clap of thunder, followed by a bright flash of lightning. The fire roared and crackled in the fireplace, quickly warming the small den.
Bryce sat down on the couch when he felt something press against his leg. Almost forgetting, Bryce let Absol out of the ball, and set it on the counter behind him.
"This," he said, motioning to his living room, "is my domain."
Absol said, looking around.
"You had a trainer? Then what were you doing crossing the road?" Bryce asked.
her voice had taken on a sad tone, and Bryce felt a sudden sadness as well.
"You know that was an accident," Bryce said guiltily.
Then Absol had an idea. She knew this man loved her, and dammit, she'd prove it. And she knew exactly what she was going to do.
She feigned a growl, and fell on her side, pretending to be in pain. Alarmed, Bryce got up and kneeled beside her.
"What's wrong?" he asked, clearly concerned. It sort of hurt Absol to be using his concern like this, but she knew he'd decline if she asked.
she said, ready to finish this up.
When Bryce examined her side, Absol quickly stood up and tackled him. She pinned Bryce to the floor, who struggled to remove her 103 pound frame from his chest.
she said, laying down on him.
"What are you doing?" Bryce asked once he was able to breathe.
she said, looking at him,
