A New Ally

Chapter 2: A New Ally

The rain had stopped, and the clouds parted, revealing a bright full moon overhead. Kent tried looking ahead, but the trees were too thick. Water had collected on the treetops, and was dripping on him and Sylvia as they made their way through. The cold of the night covered Kent like a wet towel, chilling him to the marrow. Even with his cloak pulled around him, the cold wind penetrated the soft cotton.
Sylvia though, was completely fine. The fire inside of her kept her warm, but with the recent rain, her body temperature increased the humidity around her. She was trying not to focus on it as she listened intently to her surroundings. Ever since she had entered this forest, she sensed something following them. She stopped walking, and heard a branch snap in the distance.
[Kent, DOWN!] she commanded. She tackled him to the wet ground, and an arrow impacted dully into a nearby tree. Kent got to his feet and drew his sword in one movement. A short distance away, a black figure sat atop a large Arcanine, a longbow in his right hand. His left was reaching for another arrow.
Kent raised his sword. "You make one more move, and you're going down." Sylvia was next to him, ready to leap, growling deeply.
The archer dismounted and put his bow away. The Arcanine stood beside the archer, glaring at Sylvia. Kent's eyes scanned over the archer. He didn't look very athletic, or nimble. Kent watched suspiciously as the archer lowered his hood.
"Now what do you think you're doing in my area of the woods?" he asked. Kent could see the man's emerald eyes glimmering in the moonlight. They bore into him with almost a murderous gaze. The Arcanine remained poised, ready to attack at the slightest movement from Sylvia.
[We're heading for the mountains. We don't mean any harm,] Sylvia said. The Arcanine didn't listen, but charged forward, and slammed into Sylvia, knocking her into a tree.
Kent swung his sword at the huge creature as it prepared to tear into Sylvia with its sharp teeth, and caught his blade in its mouth. It jerked its head sideways, yanking the blade from his hand. The archer threw a dagger at Kent, and he kicked it away. Kent leaped over the Arcanine and grabbed his sword. Sylvia got up, and the two were circling, growling at each other, waiting for the other to make a move.
The archer, however, drew a dagger in each hand, and advanced. Kent stood with his sword pointed towards the ground, and studied his opponent. Suddenly, he leapt forward, both daggers ready to strike. Kent rolled forward, knocking the man's feet out from under him. The man recovered, and rushed forward. Kent dodged sideways, and brought his sword down. The man blocked the strike with his daggers, and kicked Kent in the stomach. He fell on his back, and the man jumped downwards, knives aiming for Kent's throat. He caught the man's wrists, and struggled to kick him off.
Sylvia leapt backward as the Arcanine let loose a blast of flame. Sylvia returned with Flamethrower, singeing the Arcanine's side. The Arcanine charged again, and Sylvia rolled. She used Confusion, and connected. The Arcanine stumbled about almost drunkenly as it tried to clear its thoughts. Sylvia used this time to take a breath, and unleash a pillar of flame that completely engulfed the Arcanine.
When the fire cleared, the Arcanine stumbled, and collapsed on its side. Sylvia leaned against a tree, and caught her breath.
Kent managed to throw the man off of him, and stand up. The man rolled, and stood up as well. Kent picked up his sword, and prepared to block a rush, but the man threw one of his daggers at him, which Kent deflected with his sword. The man had obviously expected this counter, for he rushed forward at the same instant and thrusted outward with the knife.
Kent sidestepped, but the knife entered his right shoulder, just below the pad. He felt his blood pouring down his arm, making holding the sword that much more difficult. Kent kicked the man in the side of the head, sending him reeling. Kent grabbed the man's hair, and slammed his face into his knee. Blood spurted everywhere, and the man fell backwards, unconscious.
Kent supported himself with his sword. Sylvia came over to him, and Kent sheathed his sword. He wrenched the dagger from his shoulder, and tossed it aside.
[Do you need me to heal that?] she asked, watching Kent try to stop the bleeding.
"If you would," he replied. He kneeled down, holding the wound on his arm. Sylvia placed a paw on his shoulder, and concentrated as the magick worked its way down her leg, and onto Kent's wound. Kent felt warmth on his shoulder, and it steadily grew to a strong heat. Pain flashed on his shoulder, then faded and disappeared. The wound was gone, only leaving the tattered sleeve of his tunic.
The man stirred on the ground, startling Kent and Sylvia. The man sat up, and Kent drew his sword, readying for another attack.
"Hang on," the man said, seeing the glistening blade in Kent's hand, "I wish to tell you something."
"You've got five minutes," Kent replied, lowering his sword, but not taking his eyes off of the man.
The man sat up and cleared his throat. "My name's Jason and I've been searching for General Beulah. I mistook you and your Ninetales for one of his accomplices."
[Why are you hunting for this General?] Sylvia asked. She sat down, but studied the Arcanine. [More importantly, why did you mistake Kent and me for one of his accomplices?]
"You bear the Crest of the Phoenix on your armor, sir knight," Jason said, pointing at Kent's armor. Kent examined his chest plate. It was emblazoned with a phoenix rising out of a floor of flames. It was the traditional symbol of those serving under the Knights of the Brotherhood. "That's why I thought you were still serving under General Beulah."
"Well, you can see that I'm not. As much as I want to, I simply cannot let you live. For I have no idea if you're going to betray me and turn Sylvia and me over to Beulah."
"What if I ally with you?" Jason asked.
[Kent, you're not really going to kill him, are you?] Sylvia asked as Kent raised his sword.
[You kill him, I kill you,] a voice said. The Arcanine stood up, her turquoise eyes focused on Kent. He could tell from her stance that she meant it. Kent sheathed his sword.
"Very well," he sighed, "we're heading for the mountains to see if we can find out where Beulah's hiding."
"Before we continue there, we might have to stop at the town to the west. From what Alexis has told me, a large snowstorm is coming," Jason said, mounting the Arcanine.
"How far is it to the next town?" Kent asked as they started walking south.
"Only a couple miles. But the storm's moving pretty fast. If we're going to get to the village before the storm hits, we'd better get going now."
[Well we're not gonna get anywhere by talking, now are we?] Alexis pointed out, moving ahead. Kent and Sylvia followed her, jogging to keep up.
As they made their way through the forest, a deep rumble of thunder erupted in the distance. Kent could already feel a few flakes of snow. He pulled up his hood and continued to travel with the wind surging around him. As they exited the dense forest, snow started to fall more heavily.
They broke into a run, the cold wind lashing at Jason's face, snowflakes sticking to his eyelashes. Kent placed his hand on the hilt of his sword and sprinted, his upper body mere inches from the ground. Sylvia periodically let out a burst of flame, to clear the falling snow so that they could see. Alexis did the same, and soon they could make out the hulking shape that was the city of Vaol.
The group reached the gate, dashing through the gate as the portcullis dropped. The snow had waned, leaving a light powder falling from the sky. Jason dismounted Alexis, and they walked through the streets, until they found an inn. Kent pulled open the door, and Alexis had to lower her head to get through the doorway.
Kent lowered his hood, and wiped the snow from his brow with the back of his glove. He walked up to the counter, and rang the bell.
"Whaddya need?" the innkeeper asked.
"We're travelers, headed for the mountains. We'll need to stay for the night," Kent said, removing ten gold pieces from the pouch in his cloak's pocket.
"The Arcanine's gonna have to stay outside," the innkeeper said, handing Kent a room key.
"You can't just throw her outside," Jason protested.
"We've got a barn out back. It'll stay there."
Jason was about to protest further, but Alexis nudged him. [It's alright, there's no need to provoke a fight.]
Jason sighed. "Alright, but I'll stay out there with her." With that, he and Alexis headed out the door, slamming it behind them.
"So that's a one-person room?" the innkeeper asked.
[I'm here as well,] Sylvia said, hidden behind the high counter.
"Ah. Alright, one person and a dog." Kent winced as he heard Sylvia growl.
[Think I'm a dog, do you?] she said furiously, but Kent held her back.
"Don't get us kicked out," he said, stroking the fur on the top of her head.
A few years later, the innkeeper was found dead behind the counter, his throat ripped out and several claw and burn marks found on his corpse.

Jason pulled open the large wooden door to the barn out back, and led Alexis to one of the huge stalls along the wall. They were each about the size of a small bedroom, with plenty of room for Jason and Alexis.
Jason made a pile of hay from the large amounts strewn across the dirt floor, and lay down. Alexis lay on her side next to him, and watched him drape his cloak over himself with her soft turquoise eyes. The cotton of the cloak was very thin, and the wind between the boards made him shiver.
[Are you sure you don't want to sleep closer to me?] Alexis asked.
"No, I'm fine," Jason muttered, trying to keep his teeth from chattering.
[We've been together since you were a child, and yet you still refuse to sleep beside me?]
Jason sighed. Her offended tone changed his mind. He tried standing up, but lost his balance. He fell on his side, and rolled. His knee landed on his bow, causing it to spring upwards, sliding smoothly between Alexis's hind legs. She gasped as the smooth wood of Jason's bow slid into her hot opening.
Jason pulled the bow out, and Alexis shuddered. She had gone into heat a few days ago, and had managed to avoid thinking about it until now. Her body begged her for more, and she debated whether to ignore it or not. She gave in, and slid a little closer to Jason.
He felt the large body move next to him. "What're you doing?" he asked tiredly.
[Well...I-] she stammered, trying to think of something. [I've gone into heat.]
At first Jason thought she was joking, but then he felt that the lower part of his pantleg was wet.
[We've been together for a long time. It's only natural that we would reach this stage, don't you think?] Alexis asked, trying to get Jason interested.
He was indeed interested, but he couldn't let himself fall. After knowing Alexis for as long as he had, going to this level seemed very awkward. Though he had to admit, part of him was willing to go to that extent.
"I...suppose so," he managed. Almost automatically, Jason slid his boots and pants off, and got up on his knees, and steadied his cock at Alexis's waiting cunt. Unable to wait any longer, he slammed in, breaking through Alexis's hymen, causing her to growl quietly. Jason waited for her to calm down, then started to thrust into her.
Alexis shifted her weight forward, and spread her hind legs farther. She moved her tail so it wrapped around Jason as he continued to piston his hips, driving Alexis closer to an orgasm. Jason could feel his climax approaching as well, and he held back for as long as he could before he went in as far as he could, and let go.
Alexis felt Jason's hot cum shoot into her, which drove her over the edge. Her juices streamed out of her like a river, leaving a large puddle on the wooden floor. Jason collapsed onto her back, and put his pants and boots back on. Alexis dropped onto her side, and lay there, catching her breath. Jason lay down next to her, his head nestled under her jaw, and promptly fell asleep.

While these escapades were going on downstairs, Kent unlocked the door to his room and walked inside.
[That innkeeper's as good as dead,] Sylvia said, starting to make for the door.
"Don't you dare try to carry out your revenge until we leave. I don't know about you, but sleeping in the snow isn't very appealing right now," Kent said, removing his boots and laying down on the bed.
Sylvia padded to the bedside and curled up on the floor.
"Now that can't be comfortable," Kent said when he saw Sylvia trying to find a comfortable sleeping position.
[It isn't, really.]
"Then come up here. It's a double bed, there's plenty of room," Kent said, rolling over. He heard Sylvia sigh, then leap onto the bed. She lay down beside him, resting her head on the pillow.
[Much better,] she said, contented. She curled her tails around herself and was almost asleep when Kent rolled over and placed his arm behind her head. Was he trying to cuddle with her?
[What're you doing?] she asked.
"I sleep better on my side. Is this a problem?"
[Not...really,] she said. His arm on the back of her neck sent electricity surging through her body, and she felt her pussy start to lubricate, and her breathing started to speed up.
Kent felt her body temperature rising. "Are you okay?" he asked, concerned.
[I'm fine...] she said, trying to control her hormones. It happened to the entire Ninetales race when they met the one who was meant to be their mate. They had a rush of hormones, and it wouldn't subside until they mated. Sylvia gave in to her body's calling, and turned her head.
[Kent,] she began, bracing herself for a rejection, [I know we've been together for a very short time, but the Ninetales race has a bodily function that when they meet one of the opposite gender that's meant to be their mate, hormones take over and won't leave until the two mate.]
"That sounds made up," Kent remarked, and after a pause, added, "and if it is, don't tell me."
Sylvia was surprised both by his comment and his movement. Before she could react, he kissed her muzzle. She opened her mouth and allowed his tongue to probe inside her mouth. While they made out, Kent removed his pants, and Sylvia rolled onto her back. Kent broke the kiss, and slammed into her waiting hole.
Sylvia gasped as he broke through her hymen, and started thrusting. She wrapped her tails around Kent's waist, and brushed them around him quickly. One tail traced from the top of his head to his balls, and stopped there, moving in circles.
Kent's orgasm was nearing, as was Sylvia's. He gritted his teeth, and went in one last time, and exploded inside of her. Sylvia let out a plume of flame when she came, singeing the headboard of the bed, and sending cinders onto the white linen.
Kent pulled out of her, and lay on his side next to her, stroking the fur on her back. Sylvia licked him across the face, and watched him; her red eyes seemed to be glowing.
[Being only 170, I'm actually too young to have a mate,] she said.
"How old do you have to be?" Kent asked.
She thought for a moment. [200.]
"There isn't a penalty for underage mating, is there?"
[Yes there is, but if the parents allowed it, then nothing's wrong. But I don't think we'll be meeting my family. So there's really no reason to worry. Now we should go to sleep; we've got quite a distance to travel,] she said, closing her eyes.
Kent pulled the blanket over her, and fell asleep next to her.
