Journey Into Truth by deon

A Strange Feeling

Alright, my second attempt at a story. I may not be aiming high, but personally I think I was barely even trying with my last story. This time the focus shifts from hot yiff to hot...mystery. Enjoy.

Pokemon is copyright Nintendo, HAL Lab etc, bla-bla-bla. And yes, stealing is bad, very bad. I don't do it, you don't do it.

"Days like this, they always seem to be hiding something bad." Charke said to himself, once again lost in thought about where he wanted to go. Without much determination for anything, this Poochyena was always spending too much time thinking about what was going to happen, but often he was usually right and today was no exception.

It was nice weather actually, not something the average fellow would find suspicious, though Charke was far from average. He had awful luck, so he found his little talent of being able to sense most trouble was something of a blessing. Being both the cautious and keen on exploration type, he insisted not to leave his current home, here, in the large Rastig plains. "Leave and you're screwed.", the law of life around here that he never forgot. It was around the middle of all nowhere, so venturing outside of turf was never a good idea anyway. Today of course, regardless of another bad feeling, Charke felt like doing another bit of exploring around his huge homeland.

The Rastig plains, at a glance, was just a bunch of hills with a few small forests to make things a bit more interesting. Things were laid out pretty friendly though, the forests and what was known as the Hio Basin served as the general neighborhoods to all the packs and families. During the day, the plains were flocked with the cubs, pups and all other assorted youth frolicking along, enjoying life to the fullest. And during the night, "Ah, my favorite time of day!" Charke would always mention, things were calm and very collected. Predators were few and far between as the plains were mildly ruled over by the pack leaders, and hunting anything other than what's allowed to be killed was strictly forbidden, so while the day was happy and cheery, the night was relaxing, quiet and very often empty of any real danger.

Yes, life may have been good for him, but lately his keen sense of approaching trouble had been stronger lately. "It's never been this strong before, what could it mean?" he mumbled to himself. The sense seemed to urge him to head to one of the southern outer forests, the "outer forests" which served as something of a barrier separating the land in and out of the plains, so while usually only some of the strongest lived there, there were still people living there like almost any other of the inner forests. It wasn't too far from where he currently was, while it was about a half-hour walk he didn't have anything else to do today, or really, any day anyway.

Eventually arriving was some usual ruckus. Kids running out to the plains to play and meet their friends from the Hio area, as Charke seemed to overhear. He kept walking along, looking for anything suspicious, or just interesting in general, unknowing it was all about to come to him head-first, almost literally. "I swear, I just know something's about to happen, but what?", he said while still looking around. As he started to make out yelling coming from somewhere he was quickly knocked out by, he guessed, something whoever was yelling threw. Blacking out he saw a red blur that seemed to approach him, and then it all went dark.

Eventually he woke up in what appeared to be a small cave. There was a makeshift bed on the ground about right next to him, a few scraps of food along with a few berries and not much else. Finally getting some bearings, he got up seeing that he was lying on another bed about too big for him, which he then assumed this all to be the den of someone obviously much bigger than him, "Oh crap! What if it's a predator who just brought me here to eat? I gotta get outta here!" he said in a panic, making a rush out the nearest exit he could find. But in his rush to get out he saw the red blur from before walking in, who seemed to be carrying too much to see him charging right in the same direction, both about to have a head-on collision. In the crash both quickly fell to the ground, all of what the larger creature was holding dropping to the ground. Before going unconscious again from the hard tumble, he saw the larger creature stand back up and say something before everything went pitch black again, "Looks like you finally woke up, well, not for long anyway." in what appeared to be a feminine voice.

Eventually waking up, again of course, though this time he saw what appeared to be a Blaziken, female if it was the same one he smacked into earlier. As his suspicions were correct, as usual, the girl gave a sigh and, in an obviously female voice, "Seems like you just can't stay conscious today, can ya?".
"Sorry, I thought that a predator might had got me and well, you know...", he said in an apologetic tone.
"It's all right, with the strict eating rules around here, I wouldn't let my guard down for a second either."
Hearing this, Charke breathed a sigh of relief, knowing he was in the presence of just another forest-dweller.
"Thank god, I mean with the weird stuff I've been sensing, I didn't know what could happen!", he said, getting himself up.
"Okay, but what do you mean by "the weird stuff you've been sensing"?", she said, becoming curious with the stranger she brought in.
"Well, I can explain but first I'd like an explanation of why I'm here now."
"Oh, I was meaning to get to that. Y'see...I was having an argument with my boyfriend..."
Just saying that word seemed to invoke some serious anger in her voice, along with her face which was practically blazing already.
"If you don't want to talk about it, that's fine.", as he tried to soothe her apparent rage from recalling her previous events.
"No, I think I owe you an explanation for both bruises of your bruises.", not wanting to seem rude to this guest of hers.
"It's alright.", he said while rubbing his slightly aching head, "It doesn't hurt much.".
"Anyway, I was having a fight with...him when, out of anger, I threw the nearest thing I could hoping I could nail him while he was leaving and I guess I kind of got you instead. Sorry.", finally saying the apology she was trying to get to.
"Truthfully, I was actually expecting something about to happen. Kind of strange huh?"
"Yeah, and speaking of, what about these strange feelings or whatever?", reminding him of what he said earlier.
"Well...about that..."

The truth was, as he explained to her, he had absolutely no memory of his parents. None at all. But through his life he had always had this weird ability to sense trouble. And whenever he talked to most adults and tried to ask them about his parents, they always seemed to talk about a "sacrifice", and other strange, as well as vague things like that. They always told him that the only thing they should know about them is for "what they did for him". That was all he really knew, and of course he also told about how the feelings have gotten much stronger lately. That's what brought him here.
"That's strange...and kind of sad. It must be harsh not knowing anything about your parents.", she said, knowing how much it must of hurt to say all that.
"Well, now that all that's out of the way, I might as well properly introduce myself. I'm Charke, nice to meet you.", he said while giving a small bow.
"I'm Helen, nice to meet you too. So Charke, what are you planning to do now, anyway?", curiosity once again showing itself.
"Hmm, I might keep looking around for anything suspicious. I still haven't found anything yet, no offense."
"None taken, but it's about nighttime now, I don't think this is the best time to be looking around for something."
A little bit of shock appeared on Charke's face from finding out how much time had gone by while he was unconscious.
"Besides, I think after everything that's happened today, you might need a little...more rest. I'd gladly let you stay, considering the now extra space.", having a bit of trouble swallowing that last part.
"I don't want to impose.", although he was a bit sacked even after two power-naps in one day.
"No really! It's fine. Here, lemme get some of the food I brought. I already finished picking it all up after it got knocked to the ground.", she said while grabbing a few berries and meat scraps out.
"Well...if you insist then. I'll stay the night. Tomorrow I'll get back to looking.", he said while sitting back down onto the makeshift bed.
"About that, do you think I could come with you and help you look?"
This took Charke by relative surprise. "Are you sure? Could be dangerous or even...boring."
"Nothing could be more boring than lying around here all day, and especially not while alone with the way things are.", she actually quite gladly said.
"Then it's settled! We'll set out tomorrow to find out what trouble might be brewing."

After they both finished eating, they wished each other good night and took to sleep. Who knows what adventures might await them tomorrow?

Find out next time!
