Journey Into Truth by deon

Discovering Danger

Third chapter time! I think you'll be a little happy to know that I put a bit more work into this one than previous chapters. I'm really hoping that I can get this story-telling thing right one of these days, there really are a lot of great writers here. But until then...enjoy!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Pokemon is TM Nintendo, HAL Lab, Creatures Inc., etc.
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Now what do we do?", she asked, obviously not quite too keen on just letting the current situation develop.

As the three friends Charke, Helen and Priscillo set off again to find disturbance in the Rastig plains, it wasn't too long (as usual) before they seemed to find it yet again. The day began relatively normally, just a group decision was made to start looking outside the forest area, after they'd found that they had already trekked all the way from around the southern forests to the most eastern. But now it seemed that they had stumbled upon more trouble, this time of a bit larger scale than before.

"Umm, what are they talking about?", Pris, a new friend in the journey, asked.
"...follow you?"
"Oh man, it looks like we found some kind of secret meeting going on.", said Charke, the leader of the "group".
"A...what?"
"Simply put, there's something weird going on."
"...planning for too long now to allow..."
"Maybe this is what you've been sensing...?"
"Even if it is, now...?", as Helen finally joined the conversation as hand.

It seemed as, after deciding to scope out the inner-forest sector closest to where they were, and not to mention one that seriously set off a seriously bad vibe that Charke immediately picked up on, that the group finally found something that wasn't just another everyday situation. It seemed that there was a conspiracy among the predators afoot, as they heard from listening in on this not-so-secret meeting.

Of course, Charke and Helen, along with just about everyone else in the Ras plains (Pris was being filled in on this in the meantime, though) knew that along with the strict predating rules set by the pack leaders, there were almost always those that tried to oppose these rules. While the well-known safety of these lands was only true with these laws, and it wasn't often that it was but these rebellions oftentimes got very serious, and many of the warriors often died trying to protect the lands from plunging into a state of chaos.

"Oh wow, so that's what this is about?", said Pris, still being the rather smart young type so things didn't take too long to click with him, usually.
"...going to go insane if we don't do...
"Yeah, and I think this could be really serious, I really think that we need to do something!", Helen said.
"These guys are usually out for blood, it's best to"
"...kill anyone that tries to..."
"...as I said. It's best to keep quiet and try listen in.", replied Charke
"Hey, aren't you the non-violent type anyway Helen? This sounds a little backwards if you ask me!", said Pris, still being the rather smart-alec young type.
"Heh, I guess you've got a point!", she said while cursing in her head.
"...calm, You might draw...
"All that aside, just try to keep quiet! Who knows that they'll do to us if they find us?", said Charke, reminding them of the situation at hand.

While seeing them wasn't the problem, hearing in on this proved to be a little difficult but they still managed to make out the gist of it. From what they could see from here, their were two Raticate, a Mightyena, along with a Gengar and a Sandslash. Even though they could clearly make this out as a meeting between predators, something felt odd about all this.

"Why is there a ghost-type there? I thought they didn't even need to eat!", said Pris, stating an obvious, though a very serious "obvious".
"Shh, hold on! I'm trying to hear!", as Charke and the others were trying to listen in for an answer to this question.
"... just the messenger. I don't care..."
"Ah, I think I see, but what about the sand-type? Doesn't seem very native to this type of area.", said Helen.
"Keep in mind that there are many of those types in the more rocky area of Dio. The predatory laws apply even more strongly to those areas.", Charke said.
"...be making outside deals, it's not...
"That's true, but I think that there's something very odd about all this. Something just doesn't feel right, and this doesn't seem like the most secretive place to host a meeting of treachery.", she replied, starting to catch a bad feeling herself.
"Keep your wits about you, who knows what could really be going on here.", he said.
"No kidding! I'm getting kind of scared!", said Pris, shaking about as much as when they first saw him.
"...they killed one of the pack leaders, I doubt they'd have any hesitation of offing anyone else at this point."
"Who'd they do in anyway?"
"I'm pretty sure it was Riku, I think there was another one too."
"They got him!? I know Simon wasn't too hard to get rid off when we threatened to kill his son, but you know damn well Riku wouldn't go down without a fight, and he was one of the strongest leaders in the lands!"
"Strong as they all may be, they're no match for Xu. They're not even a match for his cohorts either."
"I really wish you wouldn't go saying that name out loud, I think I heard something..."
The group started to tense up from this.
"There could be anyone nearby, what would they do about it anyway?"
"Whew! That was kind of close! But now I'm starting to get really curious about this! Riku, Simon, Xu...just who are these guys?", asked a very confused Helen.
"...I...I feel like I've heard some of this before...these names, they sound so familiar.", said Charke, who was sporting a very spaced-out look on his face.
"...I do too..."
Charke and Helen's gaze snapped suddenly toward Pris, whose expression turned to that of shock.
"Guys...I think Simon...is my...!"
"Dammit, I know I heard something that time!"
In hearing this, the group quickly dashed off, knowing they were about to be found. Fortunately for them, they managed to get away and into a safer area way before the pack of strangers discovered them.
"Okay, now that was really close!", Helen said, placing Pris back on the ground, whom she picked up and carried with her just as they were escaping.
"Alright then, I think we need to hurry over to Dio! We need to tell the pack leaders about this immediately!", said Charke, as the group quickly headed up again and left for the Dio basin, to warn the higher-ups about the danger they discovered.

To Be Continued...

Well, how'd I do this time? Too fast? Too slow? Sorry, it's just a few bad habits I need to work out. I felt like I needed to get this story some direction, maybe next time I might keep things calm again.

Oh and, I'm sorry everyone, but for now I'm going to wait on putting the X stuff in. It's hard to do with so little characters. There'll probably be something at some point, but for now I'm just going to stick to the story. I seem to be a little better at it anyways.
