Great Battle in the Vast Sky

Chapter 12: Great Battle in the Vast Sky
General Siege thundered in frustration, firing more shots at the Gardevoir. But the bullets simply evaporated as they struck it's seemingly impenetrable skin. Suddenly, from overhead, there came a tremendous roar. Tony, riding atop his Salamence dropped out of the sky, shooting a beam of incredible fire that hit the Dragonite's flank, leaving scorch marks where it had struck.

The Dragonite bellowed in shock and fury, and swerved to dodge the Salamence's second round of flames. General Siege suddenly jumped off the Dragonite, throwing a Pokeball into the air as he fell. A Zapdos, it's massive wings spread wide, swooped under the general, catching him in mid-flight. And from the clouds, two other figures soared down.

Dorin atop his Tropius, Meil and Kyra riding behind. And Alice on her Honchkrow, and a cowering Father Genesta huddled behind her. The Zapdos screeched as it sent a massive bolt of lighting from it's beak at Tony and his Salamence, who ducked in midair and circled back, retaliating with a stream of blue flames. Father Genesta came to his senses, looking left and right.

When he saw Alice in front of him, he grinned wickedly, and suddenly lunged at her. Alice cried out as she was almost throw from her mount. "What the-?! Hey, quit it old guy! I saved your life didn't I?!" She shoved him sideways, and he toppled off the edge of the Honchkrow's back, now dangling from one of the Honchkrow's talons.

The Honchkrow cawed it's disapproval, swinging and diving, trying to shake loose of the man. Father Genesta suddenly grabbed the Pokeball that usually sat on top of his cane, throwing the wooden stick aside. He threw the Pokeball in the air, and Alice watched it's progress as it soared up, then suddenly burst open.

In a flash of red light, a Noctowl grabbed Father Genesta as soon as his hand slipped, and he was finally shaken off the Honchkrow. Now there were figures flying everywhere. Beams of fire, electricity, psychic energy were shooting through the air like so many beams of colored light.

Kyra sent pulses randomly firing at the Zapdos and Noctowl in turn, shooting Dark Pulse's like flaming bullets from her paws. Alice's Honchkrow shot a flurry of Shadow Balls at the Zapdos, who swerved, taking a few of the orbs of energy in the face.

"Venus, is it really you? But... it can't be. You're dead.", Coal whispered, not daring to believe it, as the Gardevoir looked down at him with a watery smile. "I'm sorry, Coal. But I'm afraid I'm not real."

Coal stared. He grabbed Venus's hand, which felt as warm, soft, and real as he was. "Don't you remember, Coal? I'm what's left behind in your mind. My imprint upon you. A physical manifestation." Coal felt as though a cruel joke was being played on him.

"Venus, I'm sorry!", he suddenly cried. "The Heaven's Pipe is gone! The only one that I could call upon that can bring you back to life is gone!"

The Gardevoir leaned down and kissed him. "Coal, you must stop this now. I won't let you put yourself in danger for something that is hopeless."

"It's not hopeless!", Coal yelled at the ghost of the Gardevoir, his eyes filling with angry tears. "Arcues has the power no other Pokemon has! He can bring you back to life!"

"But you have a power no other human has, Coal. You can speak to Pokemon; understand them. Look into their minds. Coal, you must understand, I can't come back. I am sorry." Coal stood and embraced the Gardevoir, tears of frustration and sorrow staining his pale face.

"I miss you so damn much!", he sobbed. "Shhh, calm yourself.", the Gardevoir said soothingly, rubbing his back as if calming an upset child. "You're nothing but an illusion though.", Coal said shakily.

"Yes, I am what's left of Venus's conscious. I cannot stay long before the imprint disappears, but I will provide you with my protection. And Coal, I just want to tell you, that I'v always loved you. And I hope you stop and think about what you are doing, because nothing will ever bring me back. I love you. Goodbye..."

Coal stepped back as her image suddenly began to fade. She evaporated into nothingness, and was gone. "Goodbye,", Coal said in anguish, as his vision was lost before his eyes. "I love you too."

It seemed as though The Seekers were no longer fighting for the pipe, now that it was lost, but on pure hatred for each other. Coal looked up to where to battle was raging. The pipe was gone. All of his efforts were pointless. But he still had to fight now, for Venus.

He crawled unsteadily to the Dragonite's neck, and concentrated hard, yelling the words, "Listen to me!", in his head. There was a sudden voice, an unfamiliar female one that responded.

"Who are you?"

"My name is Coal. I need your help now!"

"You are not General Siege."

"That doesn't matter! General Siege isn't here! Besides he doesn't even care about you anyway; all he's ever wanted is that stupid pipe!"

"Lier! My master would never betray me!", the Dragonite roared in his head, though there was a tone of uncertainty in her voice.

"Well he has. Why do you think he just abandoned you? He's letting you get beat up by everyone else, and not even bothering to aid you."

"But- Master would never- I can't believe it! I can't!"

"Please, just listen to me."

"...Yes?"

"I could set you free, if you just do what I say."

"Set me free...?"

"Yes."

"... Okay, what is your command?"

The Honchkrow's and Noctowl's Shadow Balls collided in midair, exploding in a shower of blue sparks. Things were shooting in every direction, and Meil had to duck to avoid a Shadow Ball flying straight at his head. The general stopped in front of Dorin's Tropius, staring directly at Meil. "You! You're the boy! The one who knows the song!"

"That doesn't matter, the pipe is gone!", Meil retorted loudly. The Tropius swerved abruptly to avoid another Thunderbolt.

"How did you know we lost the pipe?!", the general asked viciously. "Alice saw it fall when she caught the old man, and no one knows where it fell, or if it even survived the fall!", Meil laughed, just to rub his face in it.

"You-!" He was enraged now, and the Tropius had to duck and weave to avoid another spray of Thunderbolts. "Tropius, get him.", Dorin ordered. The Tropius obeyed, dropping down suddenly, then blasting the Zapdos with a storm of sharp leaves.

The Zapdos screeched again, and dived for them. It's beam of electricity hit the Tropius on the left flank, and Kyra shut her eyes tightly as they suddenly jolted, dropping a few meters in the air before the Tropius could regain enough energy to rejoin the fight.

Alice and her Honchkrow were dueling fiercely 30 feet away from them with Father Genesta's Noctowl. Honchkrow sent out Dark Pulses as thunderous waves of energy, the Noctowl furiously trying to blast each one away with Shadow Balls.

Tony and his Salamence were jumping back and forth from each fight, firing wicked Dragon Pulses, and attempting to charge some off their mounts.

Suddenly, the Dragonite, which had been flying just below all of them, rose up between them, letting out a roar, Coal perched on top of it's head, holding tightly to it's antennas as the Dragonite opened it's mouth, and a beam of incredible force blasted the Zapdos out of the air like fly, sending it and it's rider plummeting towards the earth. No one made a movement to save the man or his Pokemon as there was a dull thud from below.

Then the Dragonite turned burning eyes on Father Genesta, who squealed in terror, and his Noctowl suddenly took off like a jet, but with frightening accuracy, the Dragonite sniped the Noctowl from the air also. Then it turned to the last three. "Coal, stop! The pipe is gone! There is no reason to-" Tony's speech was interrupted as he swerved to avoid the same fate as the Dragonite's last two victims.

"I don't care anymore!", Coal snarled. "Everything I did was useless! The pipe! The song! All for nothing! And the whole time, all you did was interfere with everything I did! That's how it was when we were little, Tony! You were always up in my face! You'd never let me do anything! You always thought you were better! But I'v had it! I won't allow it to persist any longer!"

He suddenly advanced, the Dragonite roaring past them as it charged at Tony. Tony fired white hot flames at the Dragonite, trying to hold it back as he glided over the Dragonite's back. The flames hit the Dragonite in it's left eyes, and it let out a roar of fury and pain as it flew blindly towards Tony, who's Salamence barely dodged it's wild attempt.

"We've got to help!", Meil shouted to Dorin, who ignored this saying, "This is his battle. It's best we stay out."

"Are you mental?! That Dragonite will kill him!"

Then out of nowhere, a yellow blur shot from the air. It was the Zapdos, with General Siege, battered and bruised, riding on it's back, a gun in hand. "You will die!", he yelled to Coal. His Zapdos landed on the Dragonite's back, and before he could be stopped, he fired another two shots at Coal. "Don't!" To everyones shock, it was Tony.

He jumped from his Salamence, putting his body between Coal and General Siege. Tony's face froze in pain and shock as the bullets struck him. It seem to take an eternity for Tony to fall; his now wasted body falling towards the earth.

"No!", Alice screamed shrilly, rocketing towards his body before it struck the earth, and catching it in mid-fall. Meil's mind was frozen solid. Cold as ice. Suddenly, he heard a horrible scream as Coal attacked General Siege, wrestling the gun from his hands.

And without a moments hesitation, shot the general in the chest, watching as he dropped; blown out of the sky. "That's for my brother!", he shouted into the night.

The Dragonite, startled by the gunshots, thrashed in the air as it tried to escape the sudden noises. Meil only saw it for a second. A tail, thicker than a tree trunk, slammed into the Tropius. And Meil felt the Tropius's back disappear from underneath him.

He was falling. Down, down, down towards his certain demise. He shut his eyes tight, thinking about Kyra, wishing more than anything that she was with him now as the earth seemed to rush towards him. And as he hit the water with splash, he saw the sky disappear, and the dark surface of the water now fall away.

Darkness was swallowing him, clouding his mind. He tried to break the surface, but it was useless. It was as if his will to live had left him behind, up there in sky. Finally succumbing to the darkness that shrouded his mind and his vision, he closed his eyes,

and remembered no more.

:Authors Notes:
Okay, so it wasn't as long as promised. I'm trying the best I can. I'm not used to doing really long chapters.
