The Last Pipe
Chapter 15: The Last Pipe
Kyra shot forward like a bullet, throwing Ditto into Meil's arms, two Dark Pulses firing simultaneously at Albatross, who suddenly vanished, reappearing behind them, in front of Coal. And instead of Albatross releasing a Pokemon from a Pokeball, his body suddenly exploded in a strange, bluish, rippling aura, like the one on the ceiling. And from the blue fire, emerged an Arcanine.
But unlike a normal Arcanine, this one covered in deep blue and black fur, as opposed to the usual orange and black. Meil also noticed a ring tattoo on it's forehead, like Coal's Charizard. It sent a blast of blue flames rocketing out of it's open mouth, forcing Kyra to duck franticly. "Good girl, Enya.", Albatross said softly, patting the Arcanine's muzzle.
Coal suddenly ran forward. "Albatross! I have the key! You said you'd bring Venus back to life!" He held the key out to Albatross. "Coal, don't give it to him!", Meil yelled. He had no clue what was inside the chest, but figured it could not be anything good.
Albatross took the key before Coal could react. Enya suddenly put herself between Coal and Albatross, as Albatross bent down in front of the chest. Kyra furiously shot an Aura Sphere at Albatross, but Enya jumped in front of him, swallowing the Aura Sphere whole.
The sphere of energy seemed to have dissipated inside her. Albatross unlocked the chest, watching the chains rattle to the floor. "Now, I have it. The last Heaven's Pipe.", he muttered to himself. He held up the long, golden pipe Meil had only seen once before.
"There are two?!", Coal said disbelievingly. Albatross nodded. "Only two were created. The legend says, 'There are two paths to the Beginning Dimension, but only one path out.' One pipe, you found, but lost foolishly. The other was locked away, until now." Coal looked expectant.
"What about, Venus? You said you'd bring her back." Albatross laughed. It was high, and cold, so unlike his voice. "Pitiful. You must realize there is no way to bring humans, or Pokemon back to life. That is, unless you have the Blue Phoenix. Then you can never die. Even if the world were to scatter your ashes through space, you would still live."
"Blue Phoenix?", Meil asked. Albatross tossed the pipe in his hands absently. "I do not feel the need to tell you my own experiments, boy. Now, take the pipe." He threw the pipe to Meil, who caught it, looking confused. "Why do you want me to have it?", he asked. Albatross's reply was cut short as there was a sudden roar from behind him.
Coal's Charizard had swiped at Albatross, but his claws cut nothing but air as Albatross reappeared beside Enya. "Enya, dispose of theses pest.", Albatross ordered calmly. Enya shot forward, and a massive circle of blue light surrounded the Arcanine.
Coal and his Charizard were paralyzed by some unknown force, their bodies covered in a strange, glowing electricity. Then the Arcanine gave a loud bark that rang in Meil's ears.
The electricity that had surrounded them burst in blinding flash of blue light, and both Coal and his Charizard tumble to the stone floor, completely motionless. Albatross walked over to them, nudging Coal's body with a polished, black shoe. He clicked his tongue disapprovingly.
"Such a shame. Your father was part of The New Moon Order. That's his Charizard he gave to you before he died. To bad you couldn't have been like him." Despite everything now, Meil hoped more than anything that Coal wasn't dead. Then he remembered... "What did you do with Martin and Esemme?!", he suddenly shouted towards Albatross.
"What? Oh, right. Those must be the ones I lured into the chamber. And I'm happy to say, by doing this, I have also lured you and Kyra to the chamber as well. Your friends are here, yes. Alive? Well, barely." He pointed upwards towards the ceiling.
Now Meil understood the blue light on the ceiling. Martin and Esemme were suspended in midair, dangling as if bound by ropes. The blue light came from a strange, fiery aura that seemed to be suspending them.
"Now, Meil,", Albatross addressed him. He walked forward until he was feet away from Meil. Kyra launched herself at him, but Enya tackled Kyra to the ground before she could reach him. "Play the song. I know, you are the only one left who knows the song. Now, play, or your friends will plummet to their certain deaths." He crossed his arms, watching Meil with his eyes, so empty of any emotions.
Meil looked down at the pipe, then up at Albatross. Fear was constricting his thoughts, and he glanced down at the Ditto, which had been startled by the pipe almost hitting it, and had moved up Meil's arm. "You want me to play the pipe, but I could care less about it. All it's ever brought me was trouble. What if I were to destroy it?"
Albatross looked alarmed slightly. "You do, and I will kill everyone here."
Meil smirked, and he suddenly shouted, "Ditto, Transform!"
He flung the Ditto at Albatross as the Ditto transformed into a second Meil, who plowed Albatross down head-first. Meil watched the bizarre sight, as another him attempted to tackle Albatross, before he vanished, reappearing beside Kyra and Enya. Albatross grabbed Kyra forcefully by the arm, and out of nowhere, he conjured a small blade, which he smoothy put to Kyra's throat.
Sweat broke out on Kyra's face as the cold steel touched her neck. "I think we understand each other now.", Albatross drooled. Meil looked over at his clone, who was dizzily getting to his feet. Meil had a sudden burst of genius that seemed to burn through the blind fear he was feeling.
As if he'd meant to do it all along, he ran, not at Albatross, but at Enya, who responded by lunging at Meil, fangs bared.
Meil jammed the pipe between it's fangs as it bit down on the pipe. There was a loud crack, as the pipe snapped into a dozen pieces in the Arcanine's mouth. Albatross roared in anger, and in his distraction, Kyra grabbed his knife, and without hesitation, drove Albatross threw with it.
Blood spurted from Albatross's chest as his entire body seemed to be burning itself. He let out a long, drawn-out scream as he was consumed in blue flames. And as this happened, Meil felt a sudden, horrible pain in his head. It was the worst headache he'd ever experienced, as if someone had cleaved his skull in two. His vision was blurry, and everything was falling out of focus.
He felt himself break, as if a fragile doll, and topple to the cold stone, and all disappeared. Everything, and everyone, went blank in his mind, as if flash-frozen. A darkness consumed his vision, until he could not think, he could not move.
And as he lost consciousness, and all sense of reality, he could still hear Kyra's voice, as if from a distance, "Meil, I'm here for you." And he knew, no matter where, or what happened, she was always there; a blissful memory, in a dark void of confusion and rapture.
The last thing he felt was her gentle touch as he fell away from reality, and was lost in his mind.
"Meil...? Mammon, he's waking up. Get the tea. Meil, are you okay?"
Voices were echoing in Meil's head, but they sounded faint; as if he had swimmer's ear. He opened his eyes a crack. He thought it was Nathan that was sitting on the bed beside him, but no, it was his father, his real father. Meil had gotten his hair, and his eyes. His father also wore glasses.
He could see his mother standing near the bed too, but without his glasses, he was unable to make out her distinct features. Then he felt someone else in the bed beside him, and through his nearsightedness, he saw Kyra laying on the pillow next to him on the bed.
She smiled weakly at him, and Meil was so filled with joy at seeing her, he put his arms around her, both still lying in the bed. Meil did not care if the entire order was watching or not, he just happy to see her so real; so warm and alive. When Meil turned back, he could see his parents looked comically bemused, or at least his father, and the blur that was his mother.
Meil reach out a hand and said, "Can I have my glasses?" He was surprised how dry his voice was. He coughed as Nathan put Meil's glasses in his hand. Everything now came into in focus. He was about to address Kyra with his newfound sight, when Mammon approached the bed with a mug of something very hot. Her long, black hair fell over her Seviper, who was tasting the air, still hung lazily around her neck.
"This tea will revive you.", she said, letting Meil take it. He looked into the dark red liquid, trying to ignore the smell of rotting fruit that issued from it. "It's made of Seviper venom extracts, Pecha berries for flavor, and the leaves of a Cheri tree.", Mammon said proudly, patting her Seviper's thick head appreciably.
He sipped the hot liquid, mustering all of his will not to spit it out. It was extremely bitter, like black coffee. He only managed to swallow that sip, before setting the mug on the bedside table. "Um, thanks. It's good.", Meil said, trying to sound like he meant it. He had to admit, it did help his dry throat greatly.
Mammon smiled dreamily. "Of course. It's an old family recipe of mine. Warms the soul right up." Meil turned his attention to Kyra, who grabbed him before he could react. She kissed him for what seemed like forever; Meil was to aware of everyone staring at them. When they separated, Kyra's face burned with color as she noticed Meil's parents, looking as though Kyra had just punched Meil, as opposed to kissed him.
His father scratched his head, looking lost for words. "Meil, who is this girl?", his father asked, referencing Kyra. "Gee, dad. It's nice to see you too.", Meil said sarcastically, but with a friendly sort of laugh.
"Meil, can talk to you privately for a second? Kyra, you too.", Nathan called to them, sitting down on the bed after most of the order had retreated outside, or beside the fire in the cottage. Outside the cottage, it was sometime between night and dawn, and the rain was assaulting the windows heavily.
Meil and Kyra were sitting up in Nathan's bed, resting their bodies against each other. Nathan took a deep breath, leaning his crutches on the bedside table. "I'm sure you have many questions, both of you.", Nathan sighed, looking tired. Meil nodded. "Well, yah. We do have some questions."
Nathan propped his disabled right leg on a nearby chair. "Right, well. I can't guarantee I can answer all of them, for security purposes you see. But i'll see what I can do." Seeing that Nathan was waiting, Meil first asked, "What about Martin and Esemme? Are they...?"
"Fine. But they had to be taken to a different safe house, because this one was to crowded."
"What about Albatross? Is he dead?", Kyra asked, sounding hopeful. Nathan shook his head sadly. "I am afraid not. You must understand about Blue Phoenix."
"Yah, by the way, what is Blue Phoenix?", Meil asked curiously.
"To be perfectly honest, I'm not completely sure. From what we know, Albatross is a auralogist, or a person who studies Aura, who is apparently after this new type of Aura he found himself called, Blue Phoenix.
He has infused himself, and his Pokemon with this unstable, and potentially dangerous Aura. It gives him unusual powers at his command. We are sure there must be some sort of side effect, but we're still researching. According to him, if one possesses the complete Blue Phoenix, one will become immortal. That is why it is called Blue Phoenix.
Chemicals that reside in the Aura turn it blue, and that's also the reason why it's visible to even to those who don't have Aura sight like Lucario's do. And as you know, a phoenix is a mythical creature that rises from it's ashes when it dies. That is to say, it's immortal.
Now, Kyra, when you stabbed Albatross, you destroyed the unstable prototype of Blue Phoenix, instead of Albatross himself. Albatross is very weak, yes.
The Aura breaking upon him has weakened him greatly. It has made him less than human. More like an Aura himself. Right now, the body that you saw was his true form; his human form. But when you destroyed his human form, he transfered himself into his Arcanine, Enya.
His Aura form seems to be able to channel his conscious and memory without a physical brain. This form let's him take control of the brains of other beings. Right now, we know he's somewhere in the form of his Arcanine, trying desperately to regain strength after making the mistake of using the unstable Blue Phoenix on his body.
Trying to obtain the Heaven's Pipe was a desperate attempt at perfecting his Blue Phoenix as soon as possible. But thanks to your and Meil's cunning, you have sufficiently delayed his progress to complete Blue Phoenix, and the last Heaven's Pipe is destroyed for good.
We know for sure he will not give up yet, but we'll just have to wait and see. When we came back to my house, saw that none of you were there, and saw the trap door open, we knew what had happened.
We came in just as he was escaping in the form of his Arcanine. When we saw Collin, we knew Albatross had lured him there to try to obtain the pipe. Lucky you came when you did. Of course he knew you would. He needed you to play the song. Albatross is clever, yes. But you two were a bit ahead of him." Nathan smiled warmly.
"What about, Coal? Is he still alive?", Meil asked, almost afraid of the answer. "He's fine too. Whatever hit him and his Charizard was very damaging, but he will recover." Relief hit Meil like rush of cool wind. "Anything else you want to know?", Nathan asked, reaching for his crutches.
"What happened to your leg?", Kyra asked from behind Meil. Nathan's face turned so grim, Kyra quickly said, "I mean if you don't want to say, I was just..."
"That's my personal business, thank you.", he said, his voice suddenly cold.
"Sorry...", Kyra muttered timidly. Nathan adjusted his arms under his crutches saying, "Well, if that's all, i'll just-"
"Does Albatross or the Blue Phoenix have anything to do with the prophecy?", Meil asked out of nowhere. Nathan looked suddenly nervous, looking left and right. He lowered his voice to a whisper.
"Meil, listen. There are only so many things I can tell you. Now, go enjoy yourself. You're going back to your parents house tomorrow, so get some rest."
"Can Kyra come too?" Nathan waved a hand in the air as he limped away. "Yah, sure. Whatever." Meil felt so excited, he jumped right out of the bed.
"I'm going home!"
Kyra shot forward like a bullet, throwing Ditto into Meil's arms, two Dark Pulses firing simultaneously at Albatross, who suddenly vanished, reappearing behind them, in front of Coal.
