Captives in the Night
Chapter 2: Captives in the Night
Amy attempted to move, even the slightest, but her body was tightly bound by ropes. She looking around as best she could while still lying on the cold floor. She appeared to be lying on the floor of a small, shabby classroom, lit dimly by a few gas lamps scattered on various desks.
She saw the shadows of other motionless bodies; wrists, ankles, legs, and arms all wrapped in ropes like she was. She shook her wavy, shoulder-length, lilac-colored hair out of face as she tried to look up. There was a rustle of noise behind her, and a strong female voice said, "Look, one of them is coming to."
Amy heard the tap of high heeled shoes approach, and a long shadow fell over her. Whoever it was snatched her hair with long, sharp fingers, and forced her head up, so that Amy stared into the eyes of a woman she'd never seen before. She was young, with long, bushy hair, which was a heavy shade of violet.
She wore an extreme amount of make-up; her lips plump and red; her eyes surrounded by a dark eyeliner, which gave her an odd resemblance to a Zigzagoon. "Hm, is this the one from Johto?", the woman asked another person in the room Amy could not see. "Hang on, Mona. Let me look.", responded a somewhat younger, female voice.
A tall, smooth-faced, pale girl about Amy's age, with copious amounts of long, tight-curling, shocking pink hair, leaned over Amy also. "Yes, that's the only one we could find from Johto before the cops were called up." The woman nodded.
"I see. So when do think the Dark Void will wear-off on the rest of them?" The pink-haired girl shrugged, pulling her curls absently. "About half an hour, maybe a little less."
"Good."
"By the way, Mona- I mean, Miss Lividia . Did you hear anything about Master Albatross's location?"
"Yes, it appears he's taken the form of his Arcanine, and taken shelter in an abandoned tower, somewhere in Johto."
"And, Darkrai?"
"As I said before, Aeris; Darkrai is all ready reeking havoc upon the public. The media is saying there is a sleeping illness going around, which means no one suspects Darkrai's presence."
"So you think the Full Moon Order knows?"
"Yes. And if not, they will know soon enough."
"Right."
The girl called Aeris bent in front of Amy silently, nudging her so that she sat up, despite her stiffness from still being unable to move.
After a few silent minutes, all of the people in the room had woken up, muttering confusedly, and twitching as they struggled against the tight bounds. When the woman called Mona, saw that everyone in the room was awake, she began making her way to the front. Amy looked around at the other people.
One thing that caught her attention immediately, was that every single person in ropes was a girl, between the age of 12, and 17, all of them wearing their pajamas. The woman stood at the front of the room where they could all see her. She was wearing a long, backless dress, covered in gaudy, zigzagging stripes.
"Now, I will need all your names.", she announced, picking up a clipboard from the desk. "We'll start from the front. Who are you, girl?", she asked in a would-be kind voice, pointing at the nearest crouching figure; a young, terrified looking girl with glasses, and short, sandy blonde hair.
Silent tears were running down her flushed cheeks. The girl did not answer. "I asked you, 'What is your name?'", Mona repeated, the tone of kindness ebbing away from her voice. When the girl still remained silent, the woman suddenly lunged forward, grabbing a handful of the girls hair, making her shriek in pain.
Mona bent her head all the way back, gripping her hair with relentless fingers. "Tell me your name, or i'll tear your pretty head off.", Mona said in a deadly whisper.
"Evilen Casanov...", the girl half sobbed, half cringed. The woman let go of her hair, and girl's head drooped, her shoulders shaking with sobs. "Casanov...? Tell me, do you know a boy by the name of, 'Meil'?"
The girl nodded, still staring down at the floor. Mona tapped her chin with a blood-red fingernail. "I see. Very interesting... Hm, anyway, the rest of you, speak up!"
One-by-one, each of them were called, totaling to 15 girls. "Now, I'm sure all of you are wondering why you are here.", Mona said, placing the clipboard back on her desk. "Well, I'm afraid I can't tell you that for now. So, if you're all ready, Aeris will cut you loose, and she will show you to each of your dorms for the rest of your time here." And one-by-one, all 15 girls stretched their stiff limbs as Aeris cut the ropes away with a small knife.
"Aeris will show you all to your assigned dorms now.", Mona announced. Aeris grabbed a gas lamp from one of the desks, and gestured for the rest of the girls to follow her. They all stiffly trotted after her, Amy trailing closest to Aeris as they entered a large entrance hall, which had the same dusty and abandoned look as the classroom.
It was the middle of the night, or near dawn. The only light came from the moonlight through the arch windows, and the lamp Aeris held in front of her. A Rattata scurried by as they began to climb a long flight of stairs. This lead to a balcony, where a two doors occupied opposite walls.
They all followed her through the left door, which lead to a long hallway. As they passed each door, Aeris began assigning a pair of girls to each room. The group slowly began to shrink as each girl was assigned with another to a dorm.
At the last door, Amy found herself alone with Aeris, who stopped, turning to her, her calm face cast into shadows by the light of the lantern. "This will be your dorm.", she gestured.
Aeris held the lantern aloft so that Amy could see into her dorm. Amy thought it could have been worse. In fact, it would have looked quite comfortable if everything was not covered in thick layer of dust.
A small bed sat near a tall arched window looking over a glittering lake, set in a steep valley; the entire landscape lit by moonlight that also lit up the room with a soft glow. A vanity, wardrobe, and desk were also arranged against the walls of the room, which was about the same size as the classroom Amy had found herself in.
As Amy walked towards the bed, the lantern light vanished; Aeris had closed the door behind her, leaving Amy very alone. Being the last one in an odd number of girls, she was all by herself. She brushed off the bed sheets, shutting her eyes as the accumulated dust of many years blew into her face. at least all the other girls had someone with them. But not her, she was in complete solitude.
Amy climbed under the sheets, finding the bed rather soft, considering it looked as though it hadn't been slept in for years. She closed her eyes, wonder to herself if all this was only a mindless, wild dream of hers. If it was, it was eerily realistic. To real for her.
Amy opened her eyes to the sudden, unexpected darkness, as she heard the sound of a door squeak open. She had just been pondering the reason why see had been in her own bed at home only hours before, and was now in what appeared to be an abandoned school or academy of sorts.
The glow of a familiar lantern filled the room as the door was shut again. Amy had never actually managed to fall asleep yet, and she sat up, looking over at Aeris, wearing a long night gown, looking rather unhappy.
"W-What is it?", Amy said with a yawn. Aeris did not answer, but turned the knob on the lamp, and the gas flame dissipated, casting them into darkness as Aeris place the lamp on the desk with a small clunk.
Amy was scooted over in the bed as Aeris pushed herself between the covers of the bed. Amy found this most uncomfortable, mainly because the bed was meant for only one person, and Amy either had to risk falling out of the bed, and hitting her head on the hardwood floor, of allow herself to touch the body of this stranger.
Taking the second choice, she scooted away from the edge, and shivered slightly as her arm was nudged against Aeris's cool, slender one. Aeris suddenly turned in her position to look at Amy, who stared back, watching Aeris's face, which was bathed in pallid moonlight.
"I had to come here because Mona told me she was using my dorm to store some of her equipment, so I had to take one of these dorms.", Aeris said softly. Amy looked at her with a lack of understanding. "That's not fair. Why didn't she just store her own stuff in her dorm?" Aeris shrugged, "I'v learned not to argue with Miss Lividia."
"You mean, Mona?"
"She demands I call her, Miss Lividia."
"Oh, I see. She's horrible."
Aeris sat up; her long curls bouncing around her ears as Amy also pushed herself into a sitting position. Amy noticed that Aeris was almost a head taller than her. She almost always had the same, calm, yet indifferent look on her face.
"She is horrible, but there is nothing I can do. Mona is my older sister after all." Amy received a mental shock from this bit of information. "B-But, you're nothing like her.", Amy stammered. Aeris nodded. "I have no parents to go back to, so there's no escaping her anyway."
"Your parents are dead?"
"No, they now live in a rehabilitation institute. Both were addicted to drugs."
"What kind?"
"Slowpoke Tail. Both of them. Since they were teenagers."
"I'm sorry about that."
"Don't worry to much about it.", Aeris said, the shadow of a smile on her face. Amy wrapped herself tighter in the sheets as the cold, late autumn night air seemed to seep through every crack in the stone. "It's freezing in here.", Amy shivered.
"Try not to think about it.", Aeris sighed deeply, turning on her side, and placing her head back on the pillow that they both now shared. "Well, goodnight.", Aeris whispered, her back to Amy. She laid opposite of Aeris, so that they were back-to-back.
"Yeah, goodnight.", she whispered back.

Sorry about the shortness of this chapter! And don't worry, Meil and Kyra are coming into the story in the next chapter. I wanted to start off some of the new characters first, to build up the suspence.
Unlike the other story, this one will switch between Meil's, Sandra's, and Amy's stories, but eventaully they will all connect.
Be patient, and things will reveal themselves.
BTW, there will be a female/female pairing later on in the story.
