Going the Extra Mile

Clair watched and waited as Nurse Joy examined the cluster of eggs that had been laid by her Dragonair the night before. She could not understand who had mated with her in the first place as she had never shown interest in her Gyarados or Kingdra. But Dragonair was waiting in fear as she was deeply worried about what her Trainer would do if she found out that she had mated with a human boy.

Nurse Joy looked over at them after candling the eggs and shook her head, "It would seem that none of these eggs are fertile." Dragonair breathed a huge sigh of relief at this. But Clair replied, "But the fact that she laid eggs is proof that she mated with someone." Clair then looked down at Dragonair and asked, "Well? Who was it?" The serpent looked away, fearing for the life of the boy she loved.

The Blackthorn City Gym Leader kneeled down next to Dragonair and asked, "Are you not feeling well? Did laying those eggs take a lot out of you?" Hoping to avoid suspicion, she nodded. "Then let's get you home so you can rest." Clair scooped up the serpent in her arms and thanked Nurse Joy for her services before leaving the Pokemon Center. But Dragonair gazed aimlessly at the ground.

Later that day, Clair decided to close the Gym until Dragonair felt well enough to battle. Due to her solemn state of mind, Dragonair seemed constantly exhausted and had no energy. But that evening, she took off through the window and flew towards the Dragon's Den. She was hoping the fields of flowers there would lighten her mood.

Dragonair flew through the cave towards the Dragon's Den, hoping that it had recovered from that Dragonite's rampage. When she reached the field on the other side, she marveled at the swift recovery the sanctuary had made. Although some of the trees were still recovering from the fire, the flower fields showed no sign of a fire to begin with. It was as if it had never happened.

Dragonair glided over the flowers until she found a cozy spot of lilies. She landed and curled up inside the cluster. But as she rested, Dragonair's gaze turned skyward. She felt so empty now that the boy she loved was gone, never to return. A tear trickled down her beautiful face. She wanted to cry, but she just could not bring herself to do it. But her heart felt like it was burning. It was as if she was dying, while not really dying at all.

"I want to go to him. I want to be with him. But Clair....." Dragonair frowned; knowing that she was now one of Clair's Pokemon and could not leave. But as this came to mind, she noticed something fly overhead. When she looked up, Dragonair noticed another Dragonair fly by. That was when she had an idea. She spread her feathered ears and took off for Blackthorn City. "Don't worry, Ash. I'll see you soon."

Dragonair snuck into Clair's bedroom through the window and noticed three Poke Balls on an end table. She knew that Clair was closing the Gym for the day to let her Pokemon get some rest. And those three balls were the ones she, Gyarados, and Kingdra resided in. Dragonair slivered over to the balls and picked up the one that felt empty. She then took it outside and tried to find a secluded spot. She then hid the ball in some bushes just outside the Pokemon Center. Once that was done, Dragonair made her way to the nearest convenience store.

The slender serpent examined the shelves while trying to make sure to keep out of sight. There were no customers, but there was a clerk at the front desk. Dragonair soon found what she was looking for. Lined up in neat rows were unused Poke Balls for sale. Among the standard Poke Balls were Great Balls, Heavy Balls, Lure Balls, and other models. But she only snatched up a Poke Ball in her jaws and snuck over to the door while making sure the clerk was not looking in her direction. When he closed his eyes for a yawn, she slid over to the sliding door and flew away before he could notice her.

Dragonair made her way back to the Dragon's Den with the empty Poke Ball in her mouth. Once back in the field of flowers, she flew overhead while carefully scanning the ground. It did not take her long to find the other Dragonair. It was snoozing peacefully in a patch of mint plants. Dragonair landed and set the Poke Ball down before carefully examining the Dragonair. Once she was certain that it was not going to wake up, she took the ball into her jaws and tossed it towards her prey. Without even stirring, the Dragonair was sucked inside. Dragonair waited with bated breath, hoping that her prey would not wake up. After a number of shakes, the Poke Ball went dormant. Dragonair waited a moment longer before slivering over to the ball and closely looking it over. She did not know how these balls work, but it appeared that the other Dragonair had been captured. Breathing a sigh of relief, she snatched the ball back up in her jaws and flew back towards Blackthorn City.

Dragonair flew in through the window of Clair's Bedroom and was very relieved to find that Clair still was not home. She then set the Poke Ball down next to the other two that contained Gyarados and Kingdra. "That should do it. Clair should never know now." Before she flew back out the window, Dragonair took one last look at her home. "Goodbye." She then flew to the bushes outside the Pokemon Center, snatched up her ball in her mouth, and flew southeast. Her destination was Pallet Town.

Dragonair stopped every night for the next week in treetops to sleep. And every time she dreamed, Dragonair thought of the boy she fell in love with. But on the night before she reached Pallet Town, she had a most wonderful dream. Dragonair found herself coiled around a cluster of beautiful eggs. And kneeling next to her was Ash Ketchum. He gently caressed her head and asked, "Think they'll hatch soon?" She gave a deep blush and smiled at the boy who had sired her offspring.

Dragonair sighed as her lover gave her a kiss on the nose. But their attention turned toward the eggs as a cracking sound was heard. One by one, the eggs began to crack. And before long, a number of tiny Dratini began to emerge from them. They began to coil around their mother, crying quietly in affection. Ash picked one up in his hands and kissed it so tenderly. It cooed at his touch. Ash then set the baby down next to its mother and held the Dragonair in a loving embrace. "I love you, Dragonair."

Dragonair awoke with a warm smile as she felt the sun's rays shine on her. She was feeling especially rested. Knowing that her lover's home was near, she flew out from the tree she was resting in and made her way south.

Dragonair soon spotted a building atop a hill with what seemed to be a windmill built into it. Certain that she was at the right place; she began to descend next to an open window. She froze at the sudden sound of Ash's voice coming from inside. "Yeah, just got my first badge! I'll be heading to Dewford Town next!" The voice of an old man replied, "Glad to hear it, Ash. Just take care. That place is across the ocean. Hoenn is famous for its vast water sources, you know." The boy replied, "Yeah, I'll be careful not to drown. See ya!" Dragonair peeked in through the window and frowned in disappointment at the sight of Ash on a large screen.

Dragonair waited for Professor Oak to leave the lab for a moment before flying in through the window. She then began to look around for anything that looked like a map. But she noticed a small device that appeared to be some sort of intercom. She then pressed a button on it with her tail. She jumped when a voice asked, "Name your current location." Curious, Dragonair let out a high-pitched cry. "Translation..... Pallet Town. Name your destination." Dragonair replied with another cry. "Translation..... Dewford Town. To reach your destination, head southwest. But if you are not capable of flight..." But that was all Dragonair needed to know as she flew out the window and made her way to the southwest after checking the position of the sun.

Dragonair flew over the ocean towards Dewford Town for a week, sleeping on the ocean's surface when tired. But when she reached the Hoenn region, she had to be careful of where she chose to set down for the night as Sharpedo would occasionally snap at her. But as the sun began to set on her eighth day of flight, Dragonair saw an island on the horizon. "Did I make it?"

Dragonair flew by a fairly large seaside village while keeping an eye out for any signs of the person she was looking for. She noticed a young man surfing a large wave with a Hariyama along side him, although the bulky Pokemon seemed to be having some trouble staying on the board. She recognized the man's face and hair after a moment. He was Brawly, the Gym Leader of Dewford Town. She knew that she was in the right place at that moment.

Dragonair began to search the town for anything that looked like a place travelers would rest at. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a young man who seemed rather tan and had spiky hair enter an inn. She was certain that it was Brock. And if Brock was there, so was Ash. Filled with hope, she dove towards the side of the inn and began to peek in through the windows.

Ash sighed as he rested on the bed, still feeling guilty for pushing Treecko too hard in his failed Gym battle. "What was wrong with me? I should've quit before it went too far....." Ash felt only slightly better as the ocean breeze blew in through the window. But when he looked over at it, his face became one of confusion at the sight of a Dragonair peeking in. "What the..... Dragonair don't live in Hoenn..." The Dragonair then flew in and landed in front of Ash before giving him a loving gaze. Ash began to sweat profusely as he recognized that look. "Aw man, not you again!"

Ash jumped up from his bed and made a dash for the door. But Dragonair was quicker and slid over in front of it, blocking his escape. She gave Ash a hurt expression as he began to back up towards the wall. "I don't have my Pokemon with me..... They're still at the Pokemon Center..... BROCK!!! MAY!!! MAX!!! HELP!!! SHE'S GONNA RAPE ME!!!"

Dragonair began to shed tears of desperation as she slowly closed the gap between them. Ash yelled, "No... Stay away!!!" But Dragonair would not be separated from the boy she loved again. Ash closed his eyes as he leaned hard against the wall, his fingers digging into it from terror. Dragonair came to his feet and began to entwine herself around his leg, steadily making her way up his body. But when she came to his face, she gently laid her head down on his shoulder.

Ash waited a few seconds before opening his eyes. "I still have my pants..... Wait...... Wha...?" Ash noticed that Dragonair was only constricting his body while resting her head on his shoulder, her closed eyes shedding many tears. Then, to Ash's shock, she whispered, "Please..... Love me....." Ash stood aghast for a moment, unable to believe what he just heard. Dragonair spoke again, "Love me...... Love me... Love me. Love me. Love me..." Ash brought a hand to her face and asked, "That's all you want? You only want me to love you? Is that why you came all this way just to find me?" Dragonair gave a small nod without even opening her eyes. Ash remained silent for a moment before speaking, "Dragonair. Get off me. I need to sit down."

Dragonair slid down Ash's body until she was on the ground. She then watched as Ash made his way to the bed and took a seat. He bowed his head and went silent. Dragonair waited, certain that he was going to demand for her to leave him forever. But he began to tremble, tears falling from his face. He sobbed, "I know I never acted like it, but I always wanted a girlfriend..... I was just too afraid of what she would do if I said something I wasn't supposed to. I never had the confidence to make the first move." He then looked directly at Dragonair, "But you came all this way for me. I know you must love me to have gone from Johto to Hoenn just to tell me this." He then reached out to her and asked, "Dragonair, will you be my girlfriend?"

The blue serpent began to shed tears of joy to hear the boy she loved ask her something so precious. She lunged at him and rested her head against his chest. Ash caressed her neck, "Don't cry. It makes me feel really bad when I make a girl cry. Especially a girl as pretty as you." He then placed a sweet kiss on her nose. But Dragonair then clamped her mouth over his and closed her eyes as her tongue touched his. Ash sighed as he began to kiss his girlfriend in a most intimate manner. They slowly pulled away, mesmerized by each other. Then Ash embraced his new lover and whispered, "I love you Dragonair."

Dragonair silently wept in sheer bliss as she heard those four words that she had only heard in her dreams. Now she had heard them in reality, making it all the better. But this was not the end, but only the beginning of a beautiful love.
