Story Notes:
just read to find out what this story is all about. the first one I ever wrote, and it's hoding up quite good among the strangely great crowd.why is it that where I go, everyone suddenly begins to get really good? and I get really bad?
One: The Incident
He was tossing and turning in the bed, the pain of his wounds nearly too much for him to bear, he thought that he was going to die, the pain kept returning him to the event that had just unfolded, he knew that something was not right at all, he could feel his blood chill just at the thought of it, the pills did nothing to ease his pain, his Pokemon who were standing just a few steps away from him kept eying him and each other; worry and fear sketched on their faces... they felt the pain their trainer and best friend was going through, they could feel his agony; they had no idea if was going to live or die, they hoped with all their hearts that he didn't die. Edgar kept tossing and moaning in pain, something wasn't right at all, his mind still vividly remembering the event that had taken place only a few hours prior to him been hospitalized... the worst part was that no one seemed to be able to help him at all... the doctors had no Idea what was wrong with him, they could only give him morphine to hopefully kill the pain... so far it had very little effect. He knew that he could not go on like this, he had to put an end to this pain; by any means necessary. He turned around to see his Banette, Rasputin eying him with worry in his eyes, he looked to his side and saw his Gardevoir, Olivia worry and fear starched all over her delicate face, tears still fresh on her eyes. To her side was a Sceptile, Ragde. His sharp leafs would do nicely. He had no choice, it would shatter his pokemon's hearts, but he just had to do it, no amount of medicine could cure him now.
"Ragde"
Edgar snapped, his Sceptile looked at him with surprise in his face
"Ragde, listen to me carefully... I need... you... to... slit... my... throat!"
Ragde was stunned, he took a step further away from the bed, and he was beginning to sweat.
"If you really care about me... you... will... kill... me..."
Edgar hated himself for putting so much pressure on his Sceptile and other pokemon, but the pain was too much; it had to stop
"Ragde... if you... don't... do...it...then..."
Edgar looked at his Banette directly in the face; Rasputin knew what was coming.
"Dammit Rasputin... I know you can kill me! I order... you to use shadow ball... on my head, and... make... it a... good one"
Rasputin simply got ready to use his shadowball, but stopped charging it; he just couldn't bring himself to do it. Edgar was now beginning to get mad, the only Pokemon left that could help him was his Gardevoir, Olivia, but he knew she would kill herself first before she even though about killing him. If only Gengar was here, he would kill him, he was his most loyal Pokemon
"Damn! You....guys... are nothing but.... a bunch... of pus-"
his sentence stopped short, another sharp pain had erupted from his arm... the pain was too much to bear, he would finally get his wish of death after all. Olivia rushed to his side, she did the only thing she could, she stared deep into his eyes and used hypnosis on him, he fell asleep on the spot. She gave a small sigh of relief, she knew he would be out for quite some time.
"Can you believe it Ragde, I almost did what he wanted me to do!"
Rasputin was saying in a remorseful tone
"What the hell was I thinking?"
Ragde patted him on the shoulder
"I was almost to the point myself, I just can't bear to see him in such pain"
Olivia lifter her head and looked at them both; a look of understanding filled her gaze
"please, we can't kill him... we just can't"
Ragde looked at her, his eyes were filling with tears.
"There is nothing else we can do! His pain is too much, and you know it!"
Olivia could not argue with that, she could fell Edgar's pain as vividly as he could, she feared that he would die in such pain, she fell on her knees and began to sob
"I just can't do it, we all have been trough so much, we just can't do it! I just CAN'T DO IT!"
Rasputin looked at her in the eyes
"if we don't he will die in pain, and he will die hating us for it"
Olivia was simply dumbstruck, she had heard the doctors give Edgar till morning, she knew he was going to die, but she could not kill him, the pain would be just to much to bear.
Unknown to them, Edgar was still awake, but he was too weak to talk or move, his eyes were closed, but he could hear everything they were saying, at first he only heard their distinct cries echo trough the room, but then, he began to understand what they were saying, every word, every sentence, he could understand everything they said; Edgar could only think to himself before he was dragged into the darkness
"Oh god... its starting"
******************
He was walking through the park at night, he was simply heading home to get some well deserved rest, he had just won ten battles in a row, he was simply beaming with pride and joy at his victories, and he could tell his Pokemon were also full of pride, Rasputin had been incredible, he had single-handedly won five of the battles, Olivia had won him two, Ragde one, and Gengar the last two, he was remembering all of the details, but for some reason, didn't remember them much, but it didn't matter, he would gloat to everyone of his friend about the excellent results of his battles. Edgar hadn't even noticed, but he had wondered into the old abandoned team Rocket hideout, the place was falling apart, it was quite creepy at night, Edgar considered turning around, but remembered that his friend once told him of about some kind of lab, were team Rocket had kept several valuable goods, including an illusive master ball, Edgar thought to himself, he had the master ball in his possession, he could easily catch any Pokemon he wanted, including any legendaries. He told himself that the risk was worth taking, so he moved deeper until he was completely inside, it wasn't long before he found the main lab... he could feel somebody was watching him, but continued to move, telling himself that it was all in his imagination. He finally got to the end of the hall, there it was, the genetic wings of the lab. This place gave Edgar a feeling like he should not be there, but his curiosity got the better of him. He quickly moved in to see what was inside... there was machinery everywhere, some that Edgar had never seen before, there were computers, containers that held some kind of yellowish liquid, and several other things that he had no Idea what its original function had been. But the thing caught his eye was a giant figure inside one of the tubes, it appeared to be in some kind of cryogenic slumber, but once he though about it, he realized that the thing must have been dead, after all, there was no one around to monitor it. A small book lay open at the table, Edgar moved towards it and began reading the book, and it was a diary from one of the scientist who used to work here.
He began to read, the diary's first entry was set to October 6, just a couple of months ago.
'October 6.
The experiment is going well, I think we have finally created something that we thought not possible; this could change the world for the best, or worse, I just hope or employers use it for good.'
'October 10.
We finally got to test weather our creation can survive on the outside world, his life signs seem to be in optimum condition... this could be the breakthrough of the millennium!'
Edgar looked, there were several pages that had been torn out, and he kept reading.
'October 25.
I fear that team Rocket only commissioned us to create something for their evil purposes. but I fear that it's not too late to stop what has been unleashed, this creature is only half Pokemon, the second half corresponding to that of a human. We were told to create such a creature because team Rocket had heard several reports of a hybrid creations. On corresponding to a human and a flygon! We contemplated at such a creation, and after careful study of the genetic of both creatures and, to our surprise found that such a mix would create not only a new type of hybrid, but one that was stronger, faster, much more intelligent that its parents could ever be, this was truly something that we just had to experiment on. Our creation, though able to survive on his own, has a very short life span of only a few weeks he would not survive for too long now, it was imperfect, and we needed more genetic material to study.'
Edgar found himself amazed at what he read, so the stories he had heard were true, not just fiction... somewhere in the world was the result of a human, Pokemon relationship, and the result was superior to its parents; but at the same time Edgar found himself disgusted by the scientist, one moment the had been gloating about his creation. Now he was calling it imperfect. He kept reading anyway, the entries were getting longer and much more urgent.
'October 27.
For all intends and purposes, we have confirmed the rumors we heard. There exist such a creature, it belongs to a trainer who is the father and his Flygon, who is the mother, and at first we were amazed at the results, a human that had a relationship with a Pokemon! That had to be the last thing in all our minds...'
'yet.............................................'
'Since no one will ever read this, I might as well let out what I feel. Personally, I could care less what species someone is, if you love someone then its Ok to love them, as long as you love them for who they are, not what they are... to tell you the truth, I have always found myself attacked to my best and only real friend, her name is Rain, and she is a swampert, now I know that such a relationship would be eyed, even shunned, but maybe one day, if our experiment goes right, the world will see, maybe the world will change.'
Edgar found himself blushing just a little, he was reading something private, but nonetheless, he found himself agreeing with the guy, after all... he did feel something more than just a little friendship between himself and Olivia... this thought hit him hard, he did care about her; but what if the feeling wasn't mutual? How would she take the fact that her trainer had a crush one her... he sighed and decided that maybe he would keep it to himself. But his mind was quickly taken out of the matter as he read the next entries.
'October 29.
Oh god, we were fools from the start, the thing we... I... created isn't a blessing; it's a curse! Its rage and hatred for us is unparallel, he's already killed several of the team Rocket personnel, its gotten so bad, that Giovanni himself is coming over, this... this... thing is rampaging, we can't keep it under control, its killing at will, the authorities are getting suspicious... curse our; MY! Stupidity, we thought we; I was a god, but were nothing but filthy humans that had no idea what they messed with. Now I fear that the world will get a taste of the horror I created...'
'October 30.
Almost everyone is dead, me and Rain are probably the only two remaining unscathed, but those who were killed began to change into something else, I have no Idea what is going on, but this... this... thing, its contagious. If you're hurt, then I fear that no one can help you, the transformation is complete within several days, even if you're dead, it brings you back to life... this infection that we created was not supposed to happen, team Rocket has all but pulled out completely from the installations, if I live long enough, I will make sure this things never get out.'
Edgar looked at the last page, there were words on it, but so much blood, and he could not read the rest of it.
'October-'
There was no date on the heading.
'OH GOD!!!! HE'S KILLED RAIN! WHY DID SHE HAVE TO SHIELD ME SO, WHY!!!!'
To Edgar's surprise he could hear his voice clearly, he turned all around him, but saw no one, he dreaded what he was about to read, but could not stop himself from reading, almost as if an invisible hand had grabbed his head, and pulled him towards the book.
'There is no denying it, I'm going to die here and now, this is my last entry, I at lest I will go, knowing that before Rain died, I let her know just how I felt about her, I will never forget her face, she gave me a weak smile before her life slipped away. she had not needed to speak, her eyes told me everything, she had been waiting for that all this years, why was I so afraid to let my feelings know? Why was I such a fool? All this time...'
His words stooped for a moment, then they resumed but these words were written in blood
'I leave this warning to anyone that enters this lab... GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN, DON'T GET ATTACKED, IF YOU DO... YOU WILL BECOME ONE OF US...'
'A MONSTER...'
The words began to move
'A DEMON...'
The book began to shake
'A BEAST!!!'
Edgar could feel breathing in the back of his neck
'STOP READING AND RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'
Edgar turned around and saw a huge creature that looked like a giant lizard, it was huge, and it was terrifying, he could not move his legs, he could not do anything at all, the creature raised one of its claws and pierced him in the chest and Edgar gave a scream of agony...
He then found himself in the hospital bed, his wounds had healed up, he was sweating, he looked at his hands, they were beginning to change texture to that of a hard exoskeleton... he feared for the worst... now he knew... he had to die before it was too late.
Before he became one of them...
*********************
Edgar realized that it had been a nightmare, but even if the images in his head weren't real, he could not deny his own eyes, the bandages that he had covered his arms with had been torn by his shaking and tossing, revealing what appeared to be a hard exoskeleton like structure growing in his skin, it was still the same color as his skin, but Edgar knew that in days, it would be a dark green color... he sighed, the pain was gone, but fear filled its place, what would become of his Pokemon? What would become of anybody around him? When his transformation was done, he knew that he would attack anybody that got to close to him... but how long did he have? That was a good question, he looked at the foot of his bed, there was his backpack, he took it of the ground, it was covered in his dry blood, he looked inside, and he found what he was looking for, it was the book he had been reading when he got attacked, a little torn, but none the less he found what he was looking for... it was a page that entirely dedicated to this strange creature... he began to read.
'October 2. Experiment 567400'
'We have finally completed phase three of experimentation... and to say the least, I believe that we have done something horribly wrong. It's just me, but I feel as though this creature will bring nothing but suffering and death... but then again, that is what team Rocket wants in the first place. I just hope they turn around and decide to use it for good.'
'Out creation exhibits some remarkable capabilities... some of witch are simply amazing to say the least, to begin with, our creation looks nothing like it was intended... it has a body that clearly resembles that of an insect, but has certain features that are only found in the dragon type, his shape is that of a humanoid lizard, standing at ten feet tall, he posses a tail that had a scythe tip, it was supposed to be one of the many weapons it posses. Its speed is incredible, and his agility could easily beat any known so far... but that has dark side. Because of his rather unstable genetic make up, he posses no attacks of his own, rather, he has the ability to copy other attacks... at lest we got that part right; its really hard to create something from scratch without some kind of genetic map, unfortunately we never really found the original; many of us were beginning to think that the rumors were nothing but myths; yet I never stopped believing. Faith is probably the only thing that's true in this crazy world. The thing that makes our creation so unique is the fact that it can spread his genetic information at will, simply by piercing the skin... this was something that was not intended at first, but somehow it developed this process due to the fact that a reproductive system had never really been developed for him, a huge mistake on my part. Due to that fact his genetic information is EXTREMILY invasive... anybody who is infected will become like him in a matter of five days.'
Edgar could not keep reading any further... five days until he became something else... what was he going to do? he had no choice; he either had to find a cure, or die. He did not want to risk hurting those he cared about. He had to find a cure, but he also needed to get out of this hospital... something told him that the doctors were quite eager to cut him up and see what was really wrong with him, Edgar realized the only person that could help him now, as much as he dreaded it, was Gengar... Edgar feared Gengar the most... true he was the most loyal Pokemon he had, he did everything he was told regardless of the consequences. But that was the reason Gengar was so dangerous... he would often take his orders quite literally and serious... though so far nobody had gotten seriously hurt, it was only a matter of time before Gengar carrier out an order that would hurt someone; even if it was him...
"That's it"
Edgar had been struck with a brilliant idea, then he began to do something he never expected to be doing, he was calling Gengar using his mind. He felt strong enough to actually do it this time. As quickly as the thought had been formed, the black colored Gengar appeared out of the shadows... his stare was that of someone waiting for orders, it also had the look that demonstrated intense fanaticism. Without hesitating he lowered himself into a bow
"How may I help you master..."
Edgar finally understood what Gengar always said whenever he did that; and he was quite amused at his Gengar's devotion. He spoke in a clear non-threatening tone
"so that's what you always mean by that"
Gengar was shocked, he took one step back, surprised not at his master sudden ability to understand him, but rather the reason why. He stood quietly for a moment, shadow energy already forming in his fist
"so... it has began..."
Edgar gave Gengar one long look, he understood what he wanted
"if you want me to kill you... then by all means... I will carry out your order..."
Edgar shook his head
"no, at lest not yet..."
The energy Gengar had been gathering in his fist dissipated, they both gave themselves a long look, Gengar would hate himself for killing him, but if his master wanted to die by his hand...
"It would be an honor to carry out your order... I just hope you can forgive me... but if not now, then when?"
Edgar stood up and tried to walk as best he could... he found no problem getting back on his feet, ignoring what Gengar had said he spoke in a commanding voice
"listen to me... I need a favor of you... I want you to go home..."
he stopped, reached for his belt, took all his empty pokeballs
"and I want you to wait with them..."
he showed the empty containers to Gengar, who actually looked quite surprised, his master always carried someone with him, if it wasn't him, then it was Olivia. Gengar looked at his master, what was he thinking?
"But you'll need them to defend yourself inside the-"
Edgar looked dead serious now, a look of pure anger stretched across his face Gengar had never seen him so dead serious, he was beginning to become afraid, was this really his master? What had happened to the happy boy that he loved and hated at the same time?
"Don't question what I've told you, I'm giving this job because I know you will do it, flawlessly..."
Gengar took a few steps back, afraid that his trainer would jump and attack him, when he didn't, Gengar relaxed himself, but only barely
"once you take me inside, do what I've told you.... And then...wait"
Gengar looked shocked at this last statement
"I don't want anyone to suffer, I will look for a cure myself"
Gengar had no heart to tell him that there was no cure, he had been looking for it right after he had been attacked, had there been a cure, he would not have hesitated to use it. Edgar now looked out the window
"Gengar; if I haven't returned by the sunset on the fourth day... no matter how much I beg you... no matter how much I plead... you are to terminate my life, and to make sure nothing is left of my body"
Gengar now found himself too deep into this mess for comfort, if things went wrong, he would be killing his trainer and master... but if he didn't he would be disobeying Edgar's orders, and possibly put lots of people in danger, including himself... things were already getting bad...
"I will seal off the entrance, making sure not one of those things get out... you will be my only ticket out..."
Gengar knew what he had to do
"are you sure about this master?"
Edgar looked determined now
"as sure as I will ever be..."
******************
Gengar had left the room, Edgar needed all the energy that he could muster for what he had planned, Gengar on the other hand, found himself cursing his extreme militant personality, because of what he agreed to do, his trainer might die, and by his own hands as well... he could already imagine it... what if things only got worse? Would all his plans go to waste? Gengar knew that Edgar would fail in finding a cure, would he actually want Gengar to take his life? Or would Gengar find himself fighting for his own? He had no Idea if whatever had infected Edgar would actually infect him as well. He found himself cursing the fact that he ever had gotten involved with them... now his plans might come to a stop here and now. Just then, he felt a huge slap come out of thin air, it hit him straight in his face, he reeled in shock, not from pain... but from surprise... right in front of him, he saw Olivia, she was supposed to be home... what was she doing here? Gengar looked into her eyes, they were filled with tears, but they also seem to have rage in them she looked quite pissed at Gengar
"HOW COULD YOU!!!!!"
she was screaming louder than Gengar had ever heard her screamed, her voice was a mix of both rage, and sorrow; Gengar responded with a small snickering smile, as he usually did
"hehehe... what are you talking about?"
she got even madder at his remark, she got close enough to Gengar so he felt quite threaten
"DON'T TRY AND SWEEATALK YOUR WAY OUT, I HEARD EVERYTHING THAT YOU TWO SAID! IF YOU KILL EDGAR, YOU WILL HAVE TO KILL ME FIRST!!!!"
Gengar found himself surprised that Olivia had been eavesdropping on them, but even she never got this upset... but then again; this was a completely new territory for her. On the other hand, Gengar never had really cared for feelings much, the only emotions that he felt the most was happiness and anger
"so... you heard everything huh? I'm not surprised, after all... you're a Gardevoir, it might be your job after all."
she calmed herself just a little, Gengar continued to speak
"you have to understand, things are really bad... master Edgar is the one who came up with the plan... I'm just helping him in whatever way I can"
Olivia could feel that his feelings were sincere... maybe Gengar wasn't the heatless monster that Olivia had always thought of him. She spoke again
"But does it really have to be like this?"
her voice was back to a calmer tone, a deep feeling of sorrow filled it
"isn't there any another way?"
Gengar shook his head, what he said next completely shocked her to her core
"if you really feel like that for him, why don't just tell him? I'm sure he'll understand..."
Olivia only fell on her knees as she slowly sobbed, barely able to form words
"I...I... Oh Gengar! How I wish I could let him know... How I wish so hard that we could live together for the rest of out lives! You have no Idea the pain it brings me to have to hide my feeling from him every waking moment of my life! Why can't the world just accept it as it is? Why does it have to matter, LOVE IS LOVE!"
she cried to the point of complete breakdown... her tears were forming a puddle at her feet, she covered her face with her hands... she just couldn't keep her feelings in any longer; the fact that she had screamed what she really felt like was bad enough, but she had done it in a hospital, All around her were other Pokemon who were eying her, she could feel their stares. But they were not filled with hatred, or disgust, but rather with a deep sense of understanding. One of them even spoke to her, it was a bayleef, her voice filled with as much sorrow as Olivia's was
"you're right... why should it really matter... why can't humans and Pokemon show their true feeling for one another? Why can't love triumph over everything like it's supposed to? Why can't I be with the one I love? My trainer is dead! I never got to show him how much he mattered to me! How I wish I could go back in time, tell him the real truth! How I wish..."
she began to sob furiously. A Zangoose stepped up next, it was a male his voice filled with sadness
"my girl may never walk again... she actually saved me from the same terrible fate! If only I had been stronger, none of this would have happened in the first place! Why did she have and jump in front of that car? Was it because she cared? Was it because it was the right thing to do? Answer me!"
at that, several other Pokemon began to relate their sad tales... each sadder than the other. Olivia felt a little better to find out that she wasn't the only one in stuck in a forbidden love... just then, a she heard a familiar voice, she became nervous, and began to sweat
"all this time... I've only cared for my own feelings... all this time... I could feel your pain and sorrow... but I did nothing... because I was too afraid of the world, too afraid that I would hurt you... when all this time, doing nothing ended up hurting you the most"
Olivia slowly turned around to see the face of the last person she expected to be saying such words, her heart began to ache, not from pain but from joy. He continued speaking
"nothing I do can change the pain I've already caused you... nothing I do can atone for the terrible suffering I've put you through for so many years... you always cared for me... even when no one else would!"
he began to sob to Olivia's surprise
"even when my parents died... and left me with nothing but an empty house and broken dreams, even when my life had taken a turn for the worst... you were always there for me. Olivia!"
Edgar snapped at her
"you are the only person I trust in, you are the only one that believed in me, even when no one else would, you are the only person that is willing to lose its life... for me..."
he stopped for a few seconds, then continued
"you are the only one that I trust with my life!"
he got closer to her, he fell on his knees, and before Olivia could say anything back, he reached for her and grasped her in a bone crushing hug... but his hug was soft and warm, the once dread that lingered in her soul slowly faded, as Edgar got ready to say the words that she had been dreaming to hear from him for so long, words that to her, meant that all the pain and suffering would banish, words that meant the world to her, she waited with tears in her eyes.
"Olivia... I don't care if you're a Pokemon. I don't care if you are a human... it doesn't matter anymore!"
he stopped and looked all round him, trainers and Pokemon were looking at him with the same expression as Olivia, as if waiting for some dark veil to lift and let the sunlight in
"... and I don't care about what anybody thinks anymore..."
everyone leaned closer as if expecting to catch a whisper, to everyone's surprise, he screamed it at the top of his lungs
"I LOVE YOU WITH ALL MY HEART! I ALWAYS HAVE! AND I ALWAYS WILL! and no one can tell me otherwise ANYLONGER!!!"
and with that, Edgar planted a huge kiss on his Gardevoir's lips, at first she was shocked at this, but then all of her worries began to melt away, the kiss only lasted for seconds... but for those few seconds Olivia felt like she was in heaven. Olivia had known this from the start, but now she was more set on it; she had found the one person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with... the person she wanted to die besides... as they both broke the kiss, all the other Pokemon and trainers began to cheer, Olivia held Edgar's face, her eyes filled with tears of pure joy
"I never thought this day would come... and to think that I almost lost you forever..."
Edgar found himself hating his insides for ever thinking of what he had in mind... his will to die was completely gone now... he wanted to live, to grow, to have children with the one person he loved so much; he turned around to face his Gengar, his snickering smile was back on him, wider than ever before, as if expecting what he would say Gengar quickly replied
"don't worry master... I'll just pretend that our conversation never happened, Ok?"
Gengar found himself smiling, not from happiness at his trainer's new life, but something that he hadn't felt for quite a long time, he thought to himself
"HEHEHE! Thank you Olivia! Looks like my plans are back on track"
Gengar continued to snicker, it looked like his plans where already beginning to unfold, he continued to think to himself
"Soon, very soon, The Best will walk the earth again, but this time; under my control..."
****************************************************
Somewhere outside the building was a strange creature... having listed to everything, it made up his mind. He had to report back to the council his finding.Chapter End Notes:Hope you can forgive me for going so long without fixing my mistakes, but this is just the beginning of the end for my mistake
If only Gengar was here, he would kill him, he was his most loyal Pokemon

his sentence stopped short, another sharp pain had erupted from his arm... the pain was too much to bear, he would finally get his wish of death after all.
