Chapter 6: The Glacier Gang

You and Evann traveled toward the Tundra village for about five hours, and it was almost noon. Your stomach suddenly started to growl with hunger. "Good thing I saw this coming." said Evann, "we'd better take a break for a few minutes." You noticed a tree on the side of the path ahead and pointed toward it. "We can rest under the shade of that tree." you said. "Good idea," said Evann as he pulled out the wrapped containers that he received from Sarrai earlier, "then we could eat some of this Tilues that I made this morning." You nodded in approval.
You and Evann sat-down under the tree, leaning your backs against the bark. Evann handed you one of the Tilues containers, "dig in." he said with a smile.

Four minutes later you were about half done with your container, but could not finish it because it filled your stomach the same way it did two days ago. You and Evann sealed and wrapped your containers, placed them into your bags and sat quietly for a moment. "You should consider yourself lucky," said Evann, "Sarrai doesn't allow just anyone to mate with her. After all, I gained the quick-attack ability from mating with her as well." You were shocked by what Evann told you, but Evann interrupted before you could respond. "In case you are wondering, you gained the quick-attack ability as well." You stood up and activated your leaf blades. "I'm going to go try it out right now." you said in excitement, "here I go!" You took a ready-to-run stance, when Evann stood up from where he was sitting. "Slow down there Silvian," he said, "I haven't even told you how it's done yet." You felt a bit embarrassed, but knew that what he said was true, you had no idea what you were suppose to do.

"How this ability is performed cannot be explained straight forward." said Evann, "but in order to get the feel of it, think of your body as a weightless mass, and focus most of your concentration on a specific target." Evann looked up in time to see a leaf falling from the tree. "Observe!" he said before abruptly disappearing from where he was standing and reappeared in mid-air catching the falling leaf. "Whoa!" you exclaimed, "Now you try catching the next one that falls." said Evann, "just remember to focus all of your concentration on the leaf, and believe that your body is weightless." You looked up at the tree and soon enough another leaf falls out of it. You focused your concentration on the leaf, made yourself feel weightless, and jumped up to catch the leaf. As you were in mid-air everything around you began to slow down. You were moving at normal speed, while the leaf is barely moving, just staying in mid-air.

The second you grabbed the leaf, all speed returned to normal. You landed right in front of Evann. "So that is what quick attack feels like." you said, "I've always wondered about it from the moment I first saw you using it at your tree house." Evann looked at the leaf in your hand, and smiled. "You have done well," he said, "now that you know how to use quick-attack, you just need to practice on it. However using quick-attack excessively will tire you out." Evann began walking back on to the path, and turned toward you. "Well," he said, "let's get going." You retracted your leaf blades, picked up your bag, and followed Evann down the path as you and Evann continued your journey.

While on the road you and Evann talked more about gaining additional abilities from mating, talked about the freezing climate on the Tundra-Plains, and how your furs will naturally thicken under the sub-zero temperatures to keep you warm. After three hours of traveling you were surprised of what you saw ahead of the path. A massive division of land from green to white, the green being the grass and the white being the snow. "Amazing!" you said, "it's nothing but lush white as far as the eye could see." Evann pulled two scarf's from his bag-pack, "We'd better put these on," he said, "it will be freezing on the other side, and it will take about fifty minutes before our fur starts to adapt to the extreme cold. You wrapped the scarf around your neck and muzzle as you and Evann approached the snowy grounds. The second you crossed the line between the green and white, you noticed the sudden change in the air right away. The freezing air made you shiver uncontrollably, but you saw Evann was shivering, but still walking on, some how ignoring the unbearable cold. You try doing the same, and after a few minutes of walking, your body got a bit use to the cold conditions. After walking on the snowy path for two hours, you and Evann finally reached your next stop before going to Tundra Village. "There it is," said Evann breathing hard, "Polar Tavern. We'll rest there until we completely get use to the cold here, which should just be one night."

The tavern was a large, two story building with grey stone walls, with a café on the ground floor, and a bunch of bedrooms upstairs. You walked through the double doors into the café. "Business must be slow these days," said Evann, "usually this place would have at least some customers." then you noticed that the room was empty except for a bunch of chairs over-turned on-to the tables, and an elderly anthrop Eeveé standing behind the counter cleaning the counter-top with a peace of cloth. You and Evann approached the counter and the old Eeveé looked up to see us. "Welcome to the Polar Tavern weary travelers," said the old Eeveé in a Texan accent, "what can I do ya fer?" Since this is the first time that you heard a different accent you only understood some of his words. "We would like to spend the night here Frest." he said to the old Eeveé, helping you know that his name is Frest. Evann took some coins out of his bag, "This should cover one night for two." said Evann, Frest ducked under the counter in a split second, and just as fast came back up, and he placed a key on-to the counter in front of Evann. "Enjoy yer stay," said Frest, "and if ye fellers what some hot chocolate come down here any time."

You followed Evann up a staircase into a corridor with six-set of doors on both sides, after walking down the hall passing two doors, you stopped in front of a door on the left. Evann unlocked the door with the key he got down stairs. You and Evann walked into a suite with two bedrooms on both sides, one bathroom to the left, and a rather large living room in the middle. The only window in the whole suite was the living room. "I call dibs on the room on the right." said Evann. But you didn't really care which bedroom you picked to sleep. You each went into your separate bedrooms, and you dropped your bag on the bedroom floor and slumped onto the bed. Since it was the only time that you rested since your last break, you felt very relieved. You noticed that the bed was a large single bed with a rather thick quilt, and thick bed-sheets. You figured that it might be due to the extremely cold climate, which turns out that there was no-where to escape it, not even indoors.

Minutes later you stepped into the living room to find Evann sitting at one of the two couches reading the Evetopia map. "We arrived at a good time." he said, "just before nightfall. The freezing temperatures get worse at night." He placed the map aside, stood up and walked toward the window. "Tundra Village is right over that snow-capped hill," he said, pointing out the window toward some distant hills, "he will arrive their by tomorrow afternoon." "So what should we do now?" you asked. But before Evann could respond, you both heard a loud crashing sound coming from down-stairs. You both simultaneously used quick-attack to run down into the café, you were there in two seconds, but to you it felt like fifty seconds. You were surprised at what you saw.

Three large anthrop Eeveé wearing identical clothing were standing in front of the counter with sinister looks on there faces. They were all looking at the frightened Frest. One of them had what looks like a large icicle for a hand, and he was pointing the sharp pointed tip right at Frest's neck. "You haven't been paying your dues old timer." said the one with the icicle for a hand. "You know what the boss does to those who don't pay. Right?" said the other one on the left. "Please...I haven't had a customer in days," said Frest in total fear, "if...if...y...ye fellers just give me a week, I will pay you double." Just as he finished his sentence, the thug slapped him across the face with the icicled hand. "We already gave you three weeks," he yelled as he raised his icicle-handed arm over his head, ready to stab Frest, "and now you are going to pay with your life." Knowing that the thug was going to kill Frest, Evann jumped into action. "Silvian," he whispered, "stay right here, no matter what." He activated his leaf-blades and used quick-attack to dash toward the icicled hand. In a flash the icicle was shattered to pieces, and the thugs looked around the room in shock. "Did you miss me boys?" said Evann from behind them. The thugs turned around in surprise. "You again!" said one of them angrily.

One of them charged at Evann in an attempt to punch him. Evann just grinned and jumped over the charging thugs shoulder, slashed the leaf-blade across the thug's neck, and jumped off as the thug fell forward onto the floor. The thug stayed motionless on the ground with blood flooding out of his neck. Evann glared at the remaining two thugs standing at the counter. They stared at him with shock and fear on their faces. "Let's get out of here." said one of them. "Yeah lets just take eighteen with us, and leave." said the other one. They slowly tipped towed around Evaan, who did not break his angry gaze. They picked up the injured thug off the floor, and walked out of the tavern through the double doors. "You can come down now Silvian." said Evann as he retracted his leaf-blades. You went down the steps, still in shock of the fight you just witnessed. "That was amazing!" you exclaimed, "I have got to learn how to fight like that." Evann looked at you with a disappointed look on his face. "I can teach you how to fight like that," he said, "but only if you promise me that you will fight to defend someone."

"Is he okay?" you asked, looking in the direction of Frest. Frest was standing behind the counter, staring in amazement. "Thanks." he said, "For saving my life, you can have all the hot chocolate you want on the house." Evann turned to face Frest. "In that case," he said, "two for me and my friend here." "Coming right up," said Frest, "you fellers make yourselves comfortable." You and Evann sat at the counter and waited for Frest to finish making the hot chocolate. While you waited you looked over at where the thug fell to the floor, it was still stained with blood. "Who were those guys?" you asked Evann. "Those guys were members of the Glacier Gang," said Evann, "a ruthless gang of thugs that have numbers for names. They think that they own the Tundra Plains." You looked down in disappointment, "That's terrible." you said. "The worst part about the Glacier Gang is their boss," said Evann, "his name is Varder. And he has this crazy notion that he owns Tundra Village and all the female Anthrop Glaiceon in it." This angered you a bit. "This is really bad," you said, "he's got to be stopped."

"Don't get any hopes of stopping him," said Frest as he placed two mugs on the counter, "many have challenged his authority, and it always ended badly." You spent the next few minutes talking to Evann about training, while drinking your hot-chocolate. "Its settled then," said Evann as he finished his mug, "we will stay here for the next few days and I will train you to fight. Agreed?" "You bet." you said. "But for now..." said Evann yawning, "let's get some sleep." You both headed for the stairs. "Sorry about the mess over here Frest." said Evann pointing to the blood stain. "Don't worry about it fella," said Frest, "I can clean that up easy, thanks for saving my bacon earlier." You both headed up stairs, and into your suite. "See you in the morning." you said to Evann. "Same to you." he said as you closed the door to your room. While in bed you covered yourself with the thick bed quilt and sheet. You closed your eyes hoping that you would meet Iola in your dream again.
