Story Notes:

Basically, I've been wanting to make a very long lasting series with lots of intrigue and such, and have finally come up with this. I like the story-line behind it, though for now I'm just going to post the first chapter to see just what everyone thinks of it. No sex until later chapters.

Chapter 1: Omen

"On the night of the full moon, an Eevee will be born to unknowing parents. Pain, Suffering, and the screams of the dieing will fill the world if this Eevee is allowed to live beyond his thirteenth year."

This is the message that greeted the ears of a gathering of various Pokemon from the oracle that lived in the great Prismatic City. For days, weeks, families expecting children were terrified that their offspring would be the one who would have to be executed before it could even open its eyes. Finally, on the day of the full moon, the hearts of a family that seemed to be blessed with good luck...found that they had the egg of an Eevee sitting in their nest after hours of labor and birthing. The two, an Absol and an Umbreon, looked in horror and sadness at the seemingly innocent egg. They knew they had to do it...but they couldn't.

"But you heard the oracle!" Exclaimed the Absol, looking to his mate with worry written on his normally chiseled features.

"I know Sloan, but...but we can't just kill it! Even if it is evil..." The Umbreon said, looking to be on the verge of tears herself.

Sloan growled, but nodded...feeling the same way. Despite what had been said, all the legends decreed...neither one of them had the heart to harm something that couldn't even defend itself. "No, we can't. It is our child." He said, releasing a heavy sigh.

"Noxia...get a basket and a blanket of some sort, we'll take it out tonight and leave it in Bloodgrass Fields." The Umbreon, Noxia, flinched, but nodded...knowing that would most likely be the best course of action. And so, they waited, attempting to go about their normal lives as if the egg wasn't their, side-stepping questions about the female's sudden lack of obvious pregnancy, saying their child had died at birth and was already buried out back. Finally...the sun set, plunging the normally bright city into an the silvery glow that the full moon plunged down unto the city. Both dark types thought it would have been a beautiful night, if not for the depressing weight that seemed to hang upon the city.

Determined to still get rid of it, they took it out in the cover of darkness the two Dark types favored, and spirited it away, out of the grand city and out into the wilderness.

"Stay close to me Noxia, I don't want anything to happen to you while we're out here. They'll think twice about fighting me, but even a strong female is worth the struggle if they can get ahold of her." She nodded and stayed glued to the male's side, running through the darkness shoulder to shoulder with her mate.

After a time, they left the cool, welcoming forests of the area and came into another location, where more grass could be seen between the trees and bushes, until finally they happened on Bloodgrass Fields, its name earned from the countless battles fought here, and the resulting blood red grass that grew their every season. The area was known for thieves, villains, and murderers, thus it was the ideal place to place the egg, out in plain sight, and leave it there with heavy hearts.

"Yeh, I tol' ya, I saw 'n egg 'round here somewhere!" Half-ear, a Mightyena who had lost half of his ear in a dominance struggle that didn't go in his favor, said to his comrade.

"Psh, you always see things that aren't there you idiot." Growled out Jag, an Absol whose blade had been used so often that it had developed a jagged edge. "But oh well, if we find it, maybe the boss'll give us somethin'."

The Mightyena nodded and grinned a little, his big nose going to work on sniffing out where he had spotted the egg last. They wandered, moving from bush pile to bush pile, until finally they broke through the bushes and found the egg, one that had been left their two nights ago by the saddened parents. "See!" Half-ear said proudly to the other, his tail wagging. "Toldja I'd fin' et."

Jag looked at the egg in disbelief, more for the fact that his semi-insane ally had actually seen something real, than that someone had just...left it there. "...Sloan." He growled out, catching the scent, recognizing his own elder brother. "Damn goody-goody, never knew he was this stupid." He said with a cynical grin, the rather powerful male padding up to the egg and batting at it with a paw.

"Shou'we eat et?" Asked the 'yena, looking up at Jag. This earned him a swat from the larger male. "No you idiot, I know this thing's father...and I think instead...we're gonna keep it." The cynical grin returned. "Jus' wait until ol' Sloany sees his own son being raised by his 'evil' little brother..."

"Ohh...tha's a gut idea Jag!" Said Half-ear, clambering up onto his paws and wagging his tail like a puppy.

The Absol nodded and picked up the egg with his tail, looking over at the Mightyena with a growl and a glare. "Now listen, not a word to the boss about this egg or else I'm going to skewer you, got it?"

The hyena like Pokemon whimpered and nodded, immediately going into a submissive posture that only lasted as long as the Absol's gaze remained on him...where he then perked up, and followed after with his tail wagging happily once again as if nothing had happened.

Neither one seemed to notice that a patch of the blood red grass where the egg had been laying, was now a normal green color...

As soon as they got back, Half-ear went off to do his own thing, while Jag quietly slipped off to his own den, having been given one for being second in command to 'the boss'. He set the egg down in his little nest of stolen silks and soft things and curled around it, staring at the egg intently...as if willing it to hatch.

"Jag, sir?" Asked a subordinate, the male beginning to make his way into the den when a growl stopped him. Not wanting to be seen nursing an egg, the Absol snarled a, "Get OUT!" With a yelp, the younger was gone, Jag releasing a sigh of faint relief and relaxing a little. He looked back to the egg and nudged it with his nose, releasing a soft growl. "Hatch already..." He ordered it, and, miraculously...it began to do just that.

A chink appeared in the tip of it, making the Absol's eyes widen, his head jerking back in time for a chunk of egg to miss striking him in the head as it flew off. The egg then glowed, reforming, and shaping into that of an Eevee, which is when the glow stopped. The young Eevee lay sprawled across the male's forelegs, its ice blue eyes slowly opening...then looking up at Jag's fierce green eyes.

It paused, blinked once, then let out a tiny, "Vee!" before snuggling into the snow white fur of the grizzled Pokemon. He merely looked down at it, his plan taking an interesting turn as a new thought sprung into his head. 'Now what?' He may have been an excellent officer, a horrifically skilled fighter...but when it came to raising a child, he was helpless. But...he knew someone who might know what to do.

"That bitch Ruby should know what to do." He said aloud to himself, smirking, then standing once he was certain the Eevee kit was fully asleep.

He made his way out of the den and gave orders to the nearest pokemon that no one, including that pokemon, was allowed inside of his den. If he found anyone in there, he'd kill them on the spot. The male was well known for doing just that, so no one went inside while Jag was away, searching for the one who would have information on how to raise a child.

Ruby, or, Blood Ruby, as was her full name, was a Flareon who specialized in setting things ablaze, including fully stone castles and fortifications. It was said she even set a lake entirely ablaze when a tribe of Vaporeons had tried to take her in for rituals and purposes unique to that tribe. She had been a mother, and was even the mate to one of the many officers located in Bloodgrass Plains, and should have the information that the war-like Absol desired.

"Come on now, you call that hot? You couldn't melt an ice cube with that! Lemme see it get hotter!" She shouted to her pyro-crew, on-lookers watching in astonishment as the very rocks they were aiming at began to melt. She was about to give another lash of her tongue, when she spotted the Absol heading straight for her. The two had worked together before, and didn't have much fondness for the other...but knew each was as strong as the other, so it never got to a brawl.

"Jag, what the fuck are you doing here?" She growled out, glaring up at the male.

"I need your advice, why else would I be here?" He stated simply, giving a glare right back.

The statement had taken the Flareon by surprise, and her glare faltered with a look of astonishment, but it quickly recovered. "Advice? What could you possibly need my advice for? You're no fire type...hmph, not even remotely warm."

The Absol smirked. "No, I'm cold as steel, sweetheart." He sneered, then growled and turned on the spot. "Come on, I'll show you...it's something I'd rather no one knew about." Was all he said before padding off, knowing she would follow...he was her superior, she had to.

And sure enough, she ended up trailing after the male, though she made her discontentment known through the occasional growl, grumble, or even a spout of fire directed at him...but never to actually hit him, maybe to just singe his fur a little.

They soon got to the male's den and the 'guard' was dismissed with a growl, where he then hurried back to his duties, allowing the male and female into the den with absolute privacy.

"So what's this big secret you're telling me about?" She asked, shoving past him...then freezing in place, her eyes widening at the sight before her.

The little Eevee had awoken, and was looking up at the Flareon with its big ice blue eyes, simply staring at her, then back at the Absol...then back to her. Ruby was awestruck, completely taken aback. "What...the hell is an Eevee doing in here? And damn well new-born too!"

She glared up at the male. "Did you kill the parents for this thing!?"'

He merely smirked. "No...I found the egg in a clearing out in the fields, and get this...it's my older brother's!" He laughed then, and padded over, seating himself down beside the Eevee, looking absolutely nothing like a parent. "I'm thinking of raising him as my own, and sending him off to maybe kill my brother, whadya think about that for irony?"

He asked, turning his smirk to the female, who was just shaking her head and growling faintly. "Damnit, so this is what you wanted my help with...warrior that you are, you've got absolutely no idea how to raise a child."

He growled. "Yeah, so? I was born to take life, not raise it."

Ruby snorted. "Feh...well I ain't doing it. Get some other sap to raise that thing."

She turned to leave, but a bark from the Absol stopped her. "What, you're going to leave this Eevee in my care? Huh... that's almost like sending it to its death."

Her tail blazed and she shuddered, restraining herself from turning and melting the Absol right then and there. But he was right...killer though she were, she was a mother, and found herself not able to harm any Eevee anymore. "...Fine, but you owe me, big time." She stated, turning about on the spot and lowering herself down next to the young Eevee.

"Heh...yeah yeah." He shrugged and lay down on his chest, lower half turned on its side to watch as the young thing began to feed on the Flareon's teats. She grimaced and grumbled...but let it, just glaring at Jag. "...so, thought of a name for your bastard son?"

"No, not yet." His head tilted as he thought, claw scratching at a scar along his neck that he always rubbed at when deep in thought. "...how 'bout Syon?" He threw the name out, not knowing where it came from.

"Huh, Syon? What kind of weak name is that?" Ruby countered, growling at the male, then looking down as the Eevee's ears perked with the name being mentioned. "...Syon." She said, the young kit perking its ears again, and this time looking up at the Flareon.

"Heh, guess I know best huh?" Jag said, smirking at the female, who just glared back at him. "Fine, whatever...but I'm not going to be the one to tell this to the boss. It's your problem, not mine."

Jag nodded. "Oh I know, never expected that much of you..." He said with a sneer, the Flareon only snorting a gout of flame from her nose that just barely licked at his face. "I won't defend it neither, it's not mine. He's your responsibility."

The Absol nodded and watched as Syon curled up in Ruby's warm fur, dozing off after its meal. "Yeah yeah...as soon as he can fight, he's gonna be." He smirked. "Maybe he'll even be as strong as me by the time I'm done with him." A low, slightly sinister chuckle left the Absol as his green eyes flashed, plans already forming in his frighteningly brilliant mind.

Ruby could only watch on, a slight twinge of worry forming in the Flareon's heart for this little Eevee. 'It deserves a better life than this...' she thought, looking down at Syon. 'But these are the cards he was dealt...now lets see if he gets a flush, or folds...for good.'

And so the ill-fated egg found a new home, living with Jag the Absol, and Ruby the Flareon. His egg-name was granted as Syon, and so he would be called for many years of his life. Sloan and Noxia meanwhile live on in a small bit of peace, both assured that their offspring is no more, and that the curse was nothing but a lie.
