Sorrow ch.7
Inferno sat just outside his old den, where his father had allowed him and his friends to stay, so long as they didn't get frisky. Being home was good, but Inferno was afraid of staying too long. "What's wrong?" he turned to see Rika walking up to him.
"We shouldn't stay here any longer."
"Why?"
Inferno sighed, "Because the longer we stay here, the more we put the entire area at risk of being attacked by Carnage."
Rika nodded, "Oh yeah. I'd forgotten about him. Or would it be them, or it?"
Inferno chuckled, "Does it matter? A monster by any other name is just as evil." Rika nodded, giggling, "But still, Carnage is a threat and one that we have to take seriously."
Rika sighed, "I know, I just wish we could stay a bit longer. You know it's been a long time since I've been here too. It's nice to see my parents again, hell it's nice to see everyone again. We can't just keep fighting all the time you know. Every now and then we have to rest."
"But the problem is if we rest we could have Carnage come and kill some of those that we love. I'm glad to be home too, but I won't put that home in danger." Inferno looked up into the sky, the moon was vanishing, but the first rays of morning were still a ways off.
Rika sighed again, "You can't fool me Inferno. You just don't want everyone to know about him and what he is. Listen you didn't fail to kill Sarak. It's just that other powers keep bringing him back, just like Death. You honestly think Bane or I are happy that that monster is still alive? But we killed him twice before, but those same forces keep bringing him back."
Inferno didn't respond at first, "The difference is you didn't leave home to kill Death, you didn't watch him rape your mother, you didn't get tossed around by him, you didn't see you mother die at his hands. You weren't a sad little pup that couldn't do anything to stop him from killing the one who gave birth to you."
Rika saw that Inferno was near tears, "Your right. I was raped by him, not my mother. I didn't die, I didn't see him. I felt it though."
Inferno snorted, "They are two very different feelings. You can't understand what happened to me, only Bane could have the slightest clue and even then he still couldn't grasp the whole of it." Inferno walked off into the woods.
Rika stayed behind, watching him go, "Even Bane could see it wasn't his fault for what happened to me. Why can't you see it wasn't your fault for what happened to your mother?"
"Because he always protected those he cared about with out a second thought." Rika saw Inferno's father step forward, "He protected his siblings, you, and many others from creeps like Sarak. He loved his mother very much, and when it came down to it, he couldn't to a thing for her."
"But that wasn't his fault."
The aged houndoom sighed, "In his eyes it is."
Sky, who was listening during the whole conversation, got up and walked off. She passed the two and headed for where Inferno was going. She kept on his trail until she finally found him in a very out of the way spot. It was a small pond, with lily pads at the opposite edge, surronded by flowers that were coiled up for the night. A large stone lay next to the water, Inferno layed on top of it, gazing at his reflection. Sky approached him, slowly, "Inferno?"
Inferno didn't turn, "Yeah Sky?"
She got up on the rock with him, just able to squeez on, "Are you okay?"
He shook his head, "Why would I be? No matter what I do, I can't kill Sarak. My father was right, I set out on a foolish quest."
She nuzzled him, "No you didn't. Inferno, you'll get him. Technically he's gone, Carnage is something all new, a combination of both of the monsters we've met." Inferno didn't respond, he just layed there, with an expressionless stare. "Do you remember when we first met?"
"Of course."
"You saved me from that mightyena pack. And then when we were hunting and you got hurt I returned the favor."
Inferno nodded, "Then we had our night in that cave. Then when we seperated at the fork, I came running back to you. So?"
"Inferno you were there for me. Since then you still are. Now I have to be here for you." She nuzzled him, "No matter what you may think you did everything you could to help your mom. And I'm sure that she's very proud of you for all the good you did, and for all the love you show me." She gave him a kiss on the top of his head.
He kept staring, "How can she be proud of a son that let her...."
"You didn't let her. You wouldn't have ever done that. I know you Inferno, I know what your like, and I know what you believe in. You would never just stand by and let your mother be killed." She began nuzzling him again, "But sometimes things happen. We wish they don't but they do. I lost my trainer, who cared for me, and loved me. I know that what happened to me is only a fraction of what happened to you, but I know the pain of losing someone you love." Inferno didn't respond, "Will you let the past go. Stop worrying about what happened before, focus on killing Carnage now. No matter how much you wish, the past is set, but our future is still being made."
Inferno sighed, "I know, but still I can't forget. I can never forget what I was forced to watch that day." He licked her cheek, "But for you I'll try."
Sky licked him back, "That's all I ask."
They got up and headed back for the den. When they got their the others were already up and streching. Bane looked over at Inferno and yawned, "So how should we get Carnage out of hiding?"
Blaze looked out toward the forest, "Hiding? I suppose that's a proper term. Don't you find it suspicious that despite all the time that's passed we have yet to see him again? I think it's pretty obvious that Carnage is just a tool for something a lot worse."
Inferno nodded, "I was worried about that myself. Carnage is the fusion of Death and Sarak, so why isn't he attacking us without a second thought, hell why didn't he kill me during our last encounter? Who ever brought them back and put them together did it for a reason. And I'm willing to bet that one of us is that reason.
Tia was pondered over his statement, "But who?"
Inferno sighed, "That is the question. I wish this new guy was as dumb as Sarak and Death, at least they were easy to read."
Bane made one last strech, "Well we won't solve anything by just standing around. We need to get out there and start breaking heads."
Everyone nodded, "Alright lets go." they went down the path to the center of the little area. When they got there they saw a small group gathered around something. When they got closer they could see that the something was an arcanine, and a beaten and bruised one at that. As Inferno got closer the arcanine seemed to cower away from him, then after what looked like a brief inner debate got up and approached, "Inferno!"
Inferno took a wiff of his scent then gasped, "Drake!? Is that you?" He nodded, "What are you doing here? And where's Cara?"
Drake took in a few deep breaths then, with a shaky voice, began, "We were attacked by a pack of manectric. They ambushed us not far from here. They beat me to a pulp, and then ran off with her." Inferno stared off in the direction that Drake indicated, "Inferno believe me I didn't mean to let her..."
"I know you didn't. Don't worry we'll get her back." Inferno smiled, more for Drake's reassurance then from his actual mood, "At the very least you had sense to look for help. You guys don't mind if we pay this pack a visit to this pack and help out my sis right?"
Rika crossed her arms in front of her chest, "of course not. We're more than happy to help. Cara was my friend, there's no way I'll let a miserable pack of mutts hurt her."
Bane shrugged, "If Rika is dead set on helping then so am I."
Blaze groaned, "If it's not one thing it's another."
Tia tapped him on the head, "Of course will help save her."
Sky stepped beside Inferno, "I'll gladly help the family of the one I love."
Inferno nodded, "When did this happen?"
Drake was panting, "last night. They headed west from the ambush spot. Please bring her back."
Inferno set his eyes on his destination, "She's my sister, I'll bring her back, no matter what those manectric try to pull." Inferno darted off toward the spot, Sky right on his heels, the others struggling to keep up. Inferno cursed under his breath, "I won't let her down too. No matter what I'll save her."

Carnage and the pokemon were closing in on the mountain that had this special ingrediant that they were looking for. Carnage looked at the pokemon, "What does this thing look like?"
"It's a flower. It's petals are white with a purple stripe in the middle. It shouldn't be that hard to find here. We just need three of them."
Carnage nodded, he didn't like being with this pokemon. But it could be worse, he could be with the human. Carnage let out a small curse, he didn't like either of his two companions. Nothing about them was right, and this was coming from him, a collection of the two most sicopthic filth that walked the land. The human seemed to be insane, but horribly intelligent, a deadly combination, while his pokemon seem to give off an aura of decay, doom, and oblivion. Nothing about either of these two sat right with him, but if he didn't stay with them, he'd remain in his current form, but then again that was seeming more and more pleasent.
