Hope Ch.1
Hope Ch.1
The sky was covered with clouds. Rain was coming down in massive torrents, with no sign of lightening. No noticed it though, their attention was focused solely upon the lifeless from that was one of the greatest heros, friends, family, and lover they had seen. Tears were in abundance as they prepared to burn Inferno's body.
His life lost protecting the one he loved, his smile remained even though his soul was gone. Sky couldn't look at anything other than him, she still couldn't believe he was gone. Her piercing scream had alerted everyone to a grave incident, but none were prepared for how grave it truly was. Cara broke down into a crying heap, Drake just stood over her, too stunned to help her, not that he could have. Inferno and Sky both had to be carried back. They waited one night, then they were preparing for the ceremony.
Rika was crying, Bane unable to comfort her, no matter how hard he tried. Rika had lost her closest friend, and all because she, Bane, Tia, and Blaze fell for the ploy that those monsters devised. Bane wasn't able to truly comprehend his friend's death, of all of them, Inferno seemed to be the least likely to die, hell he had survived a raging ball of fire. Tia and Blaze weren't faring much better. Blaze was an a silence far greater to his usual kind, and Tia was barely able to breath.
However, the grief of Rika, Bane, Tia, Blaze, Cara, Drake, or anyone else present could match that of Sky's. She blamed herself for his death, she was the goal for Damien and Scar's revenge, and they made the others suffer for their relationship with her. Sky knew that everyone blamed her too, whether or not that was actually true didn't matter, she had brought Inferno's death. She let out a sniffle, then sighed, Damien had gotten his wish, she was suffering. "It's all my fault." Even if there had been no rain, no one would have heard her.
Eventually Inferno's father approached his son's pyre, "You did good Inferno. I'm proud to have called you my son." He took in a deep breath and called as much fire as he could. The flames sputtered at first, but after a while they roared, in defiance to the rain. The aged houndoom, now seeming to have aged even more, looked up, "Do even the heavens weap for you?"
Sky couldn't remain standing, her legs gave way sending her to the mud. She didn't cry, she couldn't, her voice had vanished when she screamed over his body the other day. Cara and Bane tried to get her up, but to no avail. Sky remained down, shaking, her grief wanting to express itself, but she couldn't think of an appropriate way. Heads turned to see her, but all quickly turned away, none wanted to see the pain and suffering she was going through. Sky layed there trembling for what seemed like an eternity, while Inferno's body was consumed by the fire, "No." It was a faint whisper, lost in the rain, "Don't leave me." When his body was nothing but ash they picked her up and carried her to the den.
When morning came a wieght came with it, experianced by the, now five, companions the most. Bane looked out into nothing, "Now what?"
Blaze shook his head, "I have no clue. I don't know what will do now."
Rika came up beside Bane, resting her head against him, "Why? Why was it him? Why not one of us?"
Bane shook his head, "Of all of us he was the only one who could resist that damn potion, and for his unwavering love and loyalty he was punished. Why WAS it him and not me!?"
Tia joined them, her face solemn, "Because he was the closest to Sky. Those sick bastards wanted her to suffer, and well..."
Blaze let out a quick snort, "Damn it. How could we fall for that ruse so easily?"
Bane chuckled, a dry, unhappy one, "We? You didn't believe you or Rika were in your right mind when it happened. I wanted nothing to do with any of you. Rika didn't think she could have done such a thing, and Tia deep down wanted there to be a conspiricy. I'm the only one who bought their bait hook, line, and sinker."
Rika nuzzled him, landing a kiss on his snout, "I bought it too. We all did, not just you. Don't try to put the blame all on yourself."
Tia nodded, "In the end the only one of us that isn't to blame is..."
"Inferno best be the name your about to say." Sky walked out, her head down, her voice contained a hint of malice.
Tia didn't bother finishing, Rika looked away, Bane was the only one of them that could even stand to look at her, "Sky it wasn't your..."
She didn't let him finish, "Yes it is. They came here for me, and you all got caught up in their plans. I brought them here, and I kill Inferno." None of them could speak their objections of that view, they knew she'd never listen.
Bane sighed, "So what do we do? Where do we go?"
Rika shood her head, "I wish I knew."
Blaze shrugged, "I guess we could just walk around for a while, maybe we'll hear of something. Then we can go from there."
Sky nodded, "Anything that gets me away from the family whos son I took." She walked off, "I'll wait by that big rock on the edge of this place." Sky took off while the others said goodbye to Inferno's family. Spike and Thorn wished them well, then set off in the opposite direction. Cara was slightly better, Drake constantly by her side, and hoped they had trouble free adventure from now on. Bane chuckled again, "That should be easy, since that walking disaster we all loved is gone." The others tried to laugh, but fell horribly short.
When they reached the edge of the woods they found Sky, waiting to leave. She sighed, "So we just keep moving?"
Bane nodded, "I guess. I know a lot of places, so if something comes up, I'm sure I can lead us there." Rika smiled up at him, he smiled back. Bane wasn't in the least bit happy though, "Great," he said to himself, "We need a leader, and Sky's decimated. Rika, while lovable, can't lead her way out of a cardboard box, and Tia and Blaze just aren't up to it. Why me? Why am I the replacement?" They kept walking in relative silence until night decended.
Rika clung to Bane, like she had done the last two nights, afraid to lose him in her sleep. Tia and Blaze slept together, both of them holding the other tightly. Sky slept away from the rest, laying alone, once again. She stayed up for a while, before succumbing to the wieght of her eyelids.
She awoke with a start, "You okay? You were talking in your sleep, and it sounded pretty bad." Her eyes darted open, that voice! She looked up and saw Inferno looking down at her, eyes filled with concern.
"I...In...Inferno?" She was wide eyed.
He looked at her puzzled, "Yeah? What the hell were you dreaming about?"
She jumped on him, nuzzleing him, "I thought...I...I'm so glad to see you!"
He chuckled, "Come on we just took a nap for a few hours."
"I thought...dreamt you were dead. Ohh god I'm so relieved!"
He smiled up at her, his two, different colored, eyes shining. "Dead? Sheesh. Me die? Come on this is me were talking about." She got off him, still smiling. "Now come on we've got to make sure...urrgh!!!" Suddenly his body was rended by a razor wind, he fell lifeless. Sky turned, eyes wide in shock, which went even wider in horror. What she saw was herself, smileing as his blood leaked out, "Killed him again."
Sky awoke with a scream, tears in her eyes.
When morning finally came, it shined upon the group, who were all awake. Sky's sceam awoke them, and none could get back to sleep. They were all in a bundle, none willing to leave Sky alone again. They all wearily rose, then streached. Bane looked at the cloudless day, then sighed, "Well, lets get going."
"Going?" A voice said from the brush, "Your not going, your staying." Several ivysaurs appeared along with a couple bulbasaurs. They were all smiling. One had a large scar on his face, he stepped forward, "Why would we let you go?" The other nodded, "We want a little something for waking us up like that. It's not very nice to wake people, especially when they're having such nice dreams." The others nodded again, "And I think perpatraitor would be a heh heh heh, fitting payment. Don't worry you'll get her back."
Sky glared at him, "Take one step towards me, and you'll beg me to kill you!" The majority of the ambushers all cringed back, the lethality in her voice wasn't just some ruse.
The leader shrugged, "Then I guess, we have to make you comply."
"Not gonna happen you overgrown weed!" another voice, a masculine one, chimed. From out of the brush a ninetales jumped in, and brandished his tails in a threatening, and somewhat overly dramatic, way. "I'm Burn. The god's gift to the world. And I WILL NOT LET THIS BE! Bow dogs, bow before my mighty might." He finished with a swipe of his snout with his right paw. Everyone stared at him, unsure whether they should burst into laughter, or if they should walk away, embarresed to see his display. The lead ivysaur sneered at him, "You pompus little.." his sentence was cut off by a flame thrower, sending him running left and right in a blaze, "WHAT ARE WAITING FOR!? KILL HIM!" He screamed as he ran. The ivy and bulbasuars complied, charging the ninetales. He leaped up and landed on one, sending his face into the dirt. Burn then leaped again, and let lose another flamethrower, which scorched several of the would be attackers. He smiled, "Oh please, you don't stand a chance against the likes of me. I always come out on to.." He was tackled and biten. "SON OF BITCH!" he shook off the biter, then fried him. The others back away, "That's right, recoil in fear. I'm the best."
One ivysaur groaned, "I ain't putting up with this guy anymore! You want deal with him be my guest, me I'm leaving." The other nodded and walked away, sending multiple insults at the fire type.
Burn gave a triumphant nod, then turned to look at the others, "Congradulations, you've just been saved by Burn, the greatest fox in all of being, possibly unbeing too." his smile was big.
Bane couldn't help bursting into laughter, Rika followed. Blaze smacked his head, Tia just stared at Burn. Sky didn't seem to care, she just sat down, waiting to leave.
