Ch. 3 - Too much is a good thing

*Yawn* -Man, what a strange dream I had-

Then I realized I was sleeping outside in a sleeping bag.

"Guess it wasn't a dream." I said while getting up when I noticed something hugging my side.

"Huh?" I looked down to see a small, white, humanoid figure with light blue bowl-shaped hair with two orange horns sticking out on top.

It was a Ralts. A shiny one at that.

"Well, look at you! How cute!" I said to the sleeping pokemon as I picked it up.

"mmph, five more minutes..." the little Ralts said.

"Oh, okay." Wait...

IT TALKED!?! I dropped the Ralts in shock. Fortunately it landed on the sleeping bag.

"Ow! Why'd you do that for!?!"

"How are you speaking....human?!?" I almost said english but I'm pretty sure there's only one language now.

"What? You expected me to repeatedly say my species name as if it were some kind of language?" the pokemon said with a pout.

"Uhh, yeah." I said matter-of-factly.

"Well how was I supposed to learn that? I've only had human minds available to read." it explained.

-Guess that explains the giggling- "Wait, you read MY MIND!?!" I said in panic. See, there are a number of things in my mind that...are inappropriate for young minds. And that's putting it VERY mildly.

"Yeah. Some of my smarts I got from you while info about Sinnoh and other things I got from all of those people we met yesterday." it said, "Although, there were a number of weird images in you head that looked strange. There were girls who were tied up and dressed in odd costumes and screaming out in pain."

They weren't screaming out in "pain", just so you know. I had to act fast. "Those thoughts are to remind me of how horrible the world can be at times." Hopefully the Ralts bought it.

"Wow, that's so mature." Whew.

Now that I thought about it, "Wait, you said you're speaking human because you didn't have any pokemon to learn from, right?" I said while putting on the headband (It wasn't that bright out and it was kinda hot too.)

"That's right!"

"So you can't speak pokemon."

"None at all," Darn. "but I can still read their minds!" Whoohoo!

"Hmm, me thinks I should introduce you to the professor."

"You mean the old guy with the scary eyes?"

"Please don't call him that."

"'k."

I picked up the Ralts by it's upper body and placed it on my head. "You okay up there?"

"Yep! Wow, what a view!" It kept surveying the area as we walked to the lab. ("Wow! That building's even bigger than you pictured it!" "That's because I'm taller than you.")

"Hello, Professor!" I shouted as we entered the lab. -Hey, you can hear my thoughts, right?-

-Yep! And talk back to you too!-

-Okay, tell me if he's about to sneak up on me.-

"Good morning my boy!" Professor Rowan said, entering from a door in front of me.

-...- "Same to you. Oh, the egg hatched and it turned out to be a rare Ralts."

"Hoho, you must be lucky!"

"Another thing, Ralts can speak human..."

"WHAT!"

"...but it can't speak pokemon. It can read their minds though."

"My, that IS interesting. Ah yes, here." He handed me a pokeball. "You have to register Ralts to you. Otherwise anyone can catch it."

"Oh yeah. Hey Ralts, you gotta kinda go in this ball for a sec."

"WHAT!?! There is no way in hell I'm going in that thing!"

I turned to Professor Rowan. "Well, I don't want to make it do anything it doesn't want to. Can't something else be done to register it?"

"Hmm, well, I suppose there is a way..."

"Okay, so shoot."

"Alright, first open up the pokeball." I opened it and he pointed to the inside of the bottom half. "See that small disk? Well, after a pokemon's done struggling in the pokeball the pokemon is registered to the ball with that disk, making a ping sound. But before that happens," he reached into the ball. "it can be removed and, if the pokemon is willing, can be used to register a pokemon to it's pokeball without the pokemon ever having to enter it," he finished saying while handing me the disk.

"Alright, I'm ready," the Ralts said while taking a fighter's stance.

"So I just put it on like this?" I said as I placed it on the Ralts' chest. In a flash, the disk disappeared, a red light surrounded the pokemon then the light went into the pokeball. "Alright! I can't wait until later. I've always wanted to see a Gallade up close and personal!"

"Uhh, I can't evolve into a Gallade." the little pokemon said.

"Huh? Why not Ralts?"

"I'm a girl." she said.

At that moment I realized all the things I did (especially to her chest).

"Don't worry, I don't have anything there anyway yet," she said with an evil grin. She must have read my mind at that moment.

-Gotta work on my mind-reader blocking skills.-

"And also, stop calling me Ralts."

"Why?"

"Do you want me to call you 'Human'?"

"Good point. So what should I call you then?"

"I dunno. You haven't given me a name yet."

"Okay then," -hmm, what would be suitable for a cute, mostly white pokemon...- "I got it! How about Lily?"

"Lily...I like it!" Lily said in excitement. "Oh yeah, I just remembered, what's your name? All that time I was reading your mind I forgot to check it." she said while scratching the back of her head.

"..."

"Alright. Lily? Are you ready?"

"Bring it on!"

A half-hour earlier...

"So, what now?" Lily asked.

"That...is a very good question." I responded.

"Perhaps you should start training," Professor Rowan suggested.

"Uhh, yeah, but how? I mean, Lily's only one attack." I checked earlier and all she knew was Teleport, which was odd but she was fairly odd already.

"You can use that device I gave you the other day."

"Oh yeah!"

Begin flashback.

"Excellent, now you look like a real trainer! And about your question earlier, there aren't any of those grass pokemon around here but I made an alternative just for you." The professor handed me what looked like an oversized poketch.

"Uhh, what's this?"

"Well, myself and my fellow scientists thought that you should still get something, even if you won't accept an award. So we created this," he said while pointing at the device. "We managed to program the battle data and attacks of every pokemon we could. That's close to 98% of all pokemon!"

"Wait, lemme guess. You were unable to get battle data and attack information on exactly....14 pokemon."

"WHAT! How did you know?!?"

"Let's see, there's the 3 fariy of the human mind, the gods of time and space, the legendary lava pokemon a little bit off from Sinnoh, the gigas king who moved the continents, the pokemon of flowers, the prince of the sea...need I go on?"

"No no, that's okay." He seemed a little embarassed. "Ahem, anyway! This device, which we have decided to call the Poke Trainer or PokeT for short, will allow you to assume the fighting styles and abilities of any pokemon recorded in it. You may also use any attack recorded in it at anytime. Also, if you could, you can recorded fighting styles, abilities, and attacks used by any pokemon not recorded in it. That is, if you ever come across any."

"Awesome!" I said as I placed it on my right wrist. I was already imagining what I could do with Roar of Time, Spacial Rend, and Judgement. If I could get them, that is.

"I also imagine you can use it to train those Effort Values you discovered with that pokemon when it hatches," he said pointing at the egg.

End flashback.

In the field I noticed that my backpack had some speakers built into it and I also happened to find my mp3 player on my...person (don't ask where.). I hooked it up and played the music for a pokemon battle.

"So I'll set the PokeT to Bellsprout and use grass attacks against you so you can inprove your special attack skills." I was originally planning on using a stronger one like Victreebel but decided it'd be too risky for a newly hatched pokemon.

"Okay."

I set it and started to feel a little weird. "Alright. Lily? Are you ready?"

And back to the present.

I had my legs spread wiggling, my arms waving horizontally at my sides, and my mouth in an O shape. At least I didn't have the urge to say 'Bellsprout'.

*snicker*"Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!" Lily laughed flat on her back.

"Hey! I'm doing this for you, you know!"

"Yeah, *snicker* I'm sorry *snort* I really appreciate it." she said, most likely using all of her willpower to hold back her laugh.

"Grr, that's it! Razor Leaf!" The PokeT glowed green for a second, then I waved my right arm and launched a Razor Leaf attack at the rude little snot-nosed brat (I was going to say a profanity but I'd rather not teach her any more rude words unintentionally.)

"Whoa!" she said before teleporting out of the way. "Why'd you do that for?"

"...because we're training?"

"Oh yeah, right. Well, bring it on!"

And thus the battle began. As I lashed out with Razor Leafs and Vine Whips Lily evaded with Teleport. I was holding back but after awhile she began to get cocky and started taunting me after each teleport.

"Nyah nyah! What's wrong? Am I too fast for you?" "Hahaha, you're slower than a Slowpoke!" "With skills like those, how can you hope to beat anyone?" Okay, that last one pissed me off and I sent a Vine Whip at her. She teleported out of the way but when she reappeared, without thinking, I swung the vine right at her.

"Oh my gosh! Are you okay?" My mood went from anger to panic in 1 second flat.

"Grr, that hurt! Take this!" she yelled as her eyes began to glow and I noticed my body lifting in the air.

-Ah, a Confusion attack. Wait, that mea...- my thought was cut off as I began spinning in midair.

"Hahaha! Take that!" she said just before noticing my Vine Whip wrap around her. "Uh oh." was all she could get out as she began spinning along with me. "LeT gO oF mE!" she said while spinning.

"NoT uNtIl YoU sToP yOuR aTtAcK!"

"NeVeR!"

About 30 minutes later, just before noon.

We were both lying on the ground, too dizzy to even move.

"Not bad. You managed to learn Confusion so soon." I managed to say coherently.

"You too. I didn't expect you to be that skilled either." Heh, if only she knew.

And then we were both blasted in the face with water.

"HEY!" we both said while getting up.

"Sorry about that, but you shouldn't be lying around wasting the day away," said the professor. I looked to his side to find out what had soaked us. It was a Piplup.

-Oh well, maybe next time.-

"By the way Kole, shouldn't you check how many EVs Lily managed to gain so far?"

"Oh yeah." I popped open Dex and checked Lily's EVs. "Wow, we made it up to 140 already!" Her level had also raised to 8.

"Here Kole, I'd like to introduce you to one of my assistants' daughters. Meet Dawn. Dawn, Kole."

"Umm, hi." said the seemly shy girl. "Sorry my Piplup got you and your Ralts all wet."

"Hey! I have a name you know! It's Lily."

"Wow! She really can talk human!"

"She was one of the trainers that began their journey with the three starters from my lab," the professor said while rubbing the Piplup's head.

"Yeah! The other two were from Twinleaf Town, it's a little bit to the west of here past Lake Verity. There names were Barry and *sigh* Lucas." Dawn said with a stupid look on her face.

"So, you have a thing for guys wearing caps and scarfs?"

"Huh? How'd you know what he was wearing?" Oh shit!

"Uhh, lucky guess. That and you're wearing pretty much the same thing." Whew.

"Hmm," she seemed a little suspisous of me but shrugged it off. "Anyway, how 'bout we have a quick battle? My Piplup might not have that EV training Lily has but we're still a pretty good team!"

"Alright! We'll take you on!" Lily responded before I could turn her down.

*sigh* -Here we go.-
