The Encounter

All this over a stupid oran berry... Aria stared, wide-eyed at the battle unfolding before her. She stood before the two duelists, directly across the battlefield from the oran berry she had chased into this mess. Her hazel eyes glanced quickly back up the hill she had slid down. There was no fooling herself; it would be impossible to go back. The only way to reach the oran berry and return to her cave was through the fight and back up the blocked trail. Aria only thanked Arceus that the two fighters hadn't noticed her hiding in the bushes yet. Since she had no other option, she decided to watch the fight and wait it out until she could reach her path to salvation.

The two Lucarios fighting appeared to be very intent in their match; despite the numerous cuts and scratches each had, they remained intently focused. Aria noticed, however, that one fighter was hardly out of breath; their body had taken a few hits, but none of the serious damage inflicted on the other fighter. It was then that Aria noticed the curved spikes on its hands; it was a girl! The girl was against an opponent easily half a foot taller than her, which is a big gap against a fighting type. And as Aria continued to watch the fight, now brought to an abrupt standoff, she noticed something peculiar; while the male's eyes intently scanned the female, her gaze remained fixed forward. Aria stared more closely at the girl, but from the distance at which she sat, she couldn't make out whatever detail she was looking for. If only I were a little closer... Aria thought, before mentally slapping herself. Am I nuts! No way in hell am I getting closer to that fight!

But it appeared she didn't have to; the male suddenly lunged at the girl, his fist enveloped in a veil of lightning. Aria watched, awestruck, as the female stood before the oncoming attack, unflinching. At the last moment, while the male swung his fist in a high arc at the girl, she vanished in a blur. Aria's eyes were wider than before, as scanned the arena for the missing fighter. Then, suddenly, her gaze was pulled upward; the girl was falling from the sky, shoulders forward. The male, unable to block the Quick Attack, was knocked from his feet and sent sprawling across the dirt clearing.
As the girl recovered her stance, Aria got a good look at the girls face. She muffled a gasp, ducking further into the bush. That Lucario's blind! The Lucario's eyes, milky and dtranslucent, stared forward eerily, as if she were piercing a hole in you. Aria started wondering how the girl could be holding her own in such a fight, much less winning against an older opponent, when she noticed it; the girl's 'hair' was buzzing, like the antennae of an insect. The girl's head snapped to the side, her empty eyes landing on Aria's hiding spot. The eevee's face paled; she'd been spotted. But how?

"You've noticed our visitor, haven't you, Calais?" the Lucario girl's voice, eerily beautiful but cold, drifted across the clearing. The male stiffened; he immediately leapt up from the place he'd come to stop from his roll, his eyes following the blank stare of the girl's eyes to Aria's bush. "No, you hadn't. That's surprising," the girl said again, in a tone of bemusement. "But it might explain your remarkable ineptitude in our fight," she continued. Calais stiffened again, and then glared at the girl, a low growl escaping his throat.

"Show yourself!" the girl suddenly screamed. "You're hiding, Calais, and you'll not get this girl if I have to kill myself to protect her!"

Aria stiffened; she can't be talking about me? Aria quickly scanned the area, looking for a way out, but before she'd moved an inch, she felt the Lucario deftly scoop her off the ground.

"Let go of me!" Aria shrieked. She struggled against the hands that held her, but the girl only tightened her grip, caging the Eevee between her arms.

That's when Aria heard the eerie voice float through the clearing. The masculine depth to his voice was balanced by a peculiar sweetness; almost as if his voice were sugar-coated. "Observant as ever, Daisu. You knew my decoy wasn't real the moment your fight began. I saw it; the twitch when you didn't recognize his aura pattern." Aria craned her neck back and stared at the male Lucario across the clearing, a smug grin now upon his face. His body shimmered for a moment, before it dissolved completely in a flash of light. In the Lucario's place stood a Luxray, a spent Decoy Orb beside his paw.

"I'll never let you take this girl!" Daisu shouted.

"I wasn't asking permission."

The cold, cruel tone of the last statement sent shivers down Aria's spine, before Daisu, Eevee in hand, suddenly dove across the ground. A split-second later, a crackling royal blue ball of energy crashed against the spot they'd been standing, sending up shards of rock. Daisu spun, both feet firmly planted and a single arm clutching Aria, before she quickly turned into a barrel roll in the air, the Luxray stumbling beneath them. The ball of electricity at his mouth faded, before he turned to face Daisu. But she was ready; as she came to land, her antennae twitched once, before she planted a foot in the dirt. She spun again, her body twisting around, before slamming a hard kick into the side of the Luxray's head. As the canine fell, Daisu regained her balance, before tucking Aria tight against her frame. The Lucario gracefully pushed off the ground, back flipping over another incoming Aura Sphere.

"I see you," she grinned triumphantly, her free paw unleashing a pulse of brilliant purple energy. The wave crashed against a shadowy figure behind a tree, before Daisu landed on the ground again. Suddenly, she frowned; Aria was confused, until she heard the eerie laughter rising in the background. A sudden movement in the shadows caused Daisu to turn, Aria's gaze barely tracking the fast-moving object. And just as suddenly, she felt the Lucario's body against hers crumple under the weight of her attacker. Aria shrieked as she was flung from Daisu's arms, the Luxray standing triumphantly over Daisu were she lay. The Lucario rolled away, in an attempt to get back up, but a sudden muscle spasm turned her roll into a face plant. She'd been Paralyzed. Aria bolted to her feet, anxious to escape, but seeing the Lucario in pain made her indecisive. Her options were once again cut off, however, when she was plucked from the ground again, this time by sturdy male arms. She looked up into the face of another Lucario, identical to the decoy orb's projection. Calais.

Daisu turned to face Calais, still lying on the ground. Her anguished look wasn't muted by her blind eyes; in fact, the odd emptiness seemed to multiply the look of hatred. "Calais...you devil..." she muttered, a twitch running through her entire body. She struggled again to stand, but a firm Tackle from the Luxray sent her sprawling again. Now, at Calais's feet, she turned her face upwards, her hollow eyes resting upon Aria. For a moment, a look of grief flashed across the girl's face, before her triumphant smile returned. In less than a moment, she pulled from a pouch on her leg a seed; a large, plain-looking seed, with a single groove etched in its side.

"You won't take her!," Daisu cried, before crushing the seed in her fist. Realization dawned on Aria; it was a Blast Seed. She cringed, waiting for the explosion to wash over her, but oddly, she felt nothing. She cracked open her eyes again to see a faint, shimmering wall before Calais's hand. He'd Protected them from the blast. Aria saw that his Luray partner was not so lucky. Calais, noticing the state of the pokemon's injuries, walked briskly towards him, careful to avoid the body of Aria's defender. When he reached the Luxray, who was looking at him with pleading eyes, he sighed, and wordlessly drew a seed from the pouch slung on his back. He dropped the seed to the ground, and the Luxray bit it, taking the seed into his mouth. His body shimmered for a moment, before it disappeared; A Warp Seed? No, that could only hurt the Luxray's position more. A Pure Seed? Possibly, Aria pondered, although were one could be found near here is a mystery. She yelped as Calais grabbed her by the scruff of her neck, lifting her to eye level with him. She growled at the indignation, before he silenced her with a glare.
"Sorry about the scuffle, but you're a precious prize to me, little one," he said, that sickly sweet tone returning to his voice. Aria opened her mouth, unsure as to whether she meant to scream, to bite him, or to yell, but she didn't get the chance to do any; the moment she opened her maw, Calais's lightning fast hand reached back, pulled another seed from his bag, and placed it on Aria's tongue. Surprised, she stared for a moment, before she felt his hand tickling her throat. She swallowed instinctively, and almost instantly she felt the wave of light wash over her. Aria squeezed her eyes shut, feeling the world around her dissolve and spin away, the world melting before her as she floated, ethereal across its planes. Bust just as suddenly as it had begun, the feelings ended, and Aria stood on firm ground again. Without opening her eyes, she recognized the floor as metal; she snuck into a human building once, as a child, and had nearly been caught. She cautiously opened one eye, and then the other. The sight that greeted her was remarkable.

She stood before the entrance to a cave, carved from the mountain above. The opening gaped before her, and as Aria craned her neck back to stare up, she took in the disturbing beauty of the sight. The cave entrance, whether carved or naturally so, resembled an enormous maw, with stalagmites curving downwards like fangs and stalactites curving up to meet them. Far above the vicious grin, two ledges, carved into the mountain, served as the dark, hollow eyes of an enormous monster, trying to claw its way desperately from inside the mountain. Aria was so taken by the incredible beauty of the sight that she didn't notice the glow behind her, nor did she notice Calais approaching her from behind. Suddenly, his smooth hands grabbed her again, tucking the Eevee under into his arm.

"Welcome," the Lucario announced with a wave of his arm, "to home sweet home." The sudden smile on his face, Aria noticed, creepily resembled the gaping maw of the beast before her, laughing silently at the poor eevee's plight.

And she still didn't have her oran berry.
