Chapter 1: Hit the Restart Button

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

A young trainer ran through the dark, unfamiliar forest in a blind panic. She knew if she were to stop now it would spell disaster for her beloved Pokemon. She had no idea who the men where, but she could tell they were bad. Perhaps they were part of one of those evil teams she kept hearing about? Could it be that an evil team had target her? What had she done to deserve this, was it just her bad luck to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? She didn't have too much time to ponder those questions unfortunately. She hurtled over a log, burst through some bushes, and found herself blinded by the bright light of the noonday sun. Intense feelings of horror griped the girl when her eyes finally adjusted to the light. The clearing she had just stumbled into was the base of operations for that vile team. She couldn't believe it, she was being chased, she was being herded. "Someone help!" She cried out in desperation.

"No one can save you now girly." An approaching thud snickered.
"Yah, just hand over the Pokemon and we won't have any trouble." Another one sneered.
"Not so fast evil doer!" A dynamic voice shouted from high above. All eyes in the clearing suddenly shot up to see who had said that. A mighty Salamance dropped from the heavens, on its powerful back stood the hero of this story. The man was a shining example of what a trainer should be, brave, bold, intelligent, handsome. Using his powerful, well trained legs he leapt from the mighty dragon's back, scattering his poke balls as he fell. The mysterious trainer landed in a dynamic pose in front of the imperiled youth. His Pokemon team appeared around him, each in a dynamic pose of their own. A Ninetales crouched in front, flanked on either side by a Gardevoire and a Gallade. A Blaziken stood beside the trainer, ready and willing to unleash his fury on the gathered goons. Taking up the rear was a large and imposing Abomasnow. The team all struck a pose that looked like it would be more appropriate in a child's masked hero show.

"Oh crap! It's that guy!" One of the evil minions cried out in panic.
"We got to get out of here!" Another screamed.
"It's too late for any of that!" The trainer announced. "For your crimes against the innocent and the just I shall punish you all here and now! Zurui, Moeteiru, Chisei, Kinryoku, Yukidaruma, bring them justice!" The group broke from their pose and charged into battle. Zurui, the Ninetales, was the first to reach the bad guy's encampment. Using speeds too fast for the human eye to follow he tore through the camp, leaving nothing but a blazing trail of destruction in his wake. Chisei and Kinryoku, the Gardevoire and Gallade twins, were the next to reach the villains. Mind-bogglingly powerful psychic powers captured scores of evil doers who were quickly cut down by Kinryoku's mighty blades. Moeteiru, the Blaziken was the next to join the increasingly one sided fray. With a single, mighty leap he launched himself high into the sky.
"Sora Moeteiru: The Blazing Sky!" The bird's deep voice echoed. Wind and flame swirled around his body as he fused the brave bird and flare blitz attacks together to form a new, unstoppable force. His body had turned into a blazing arrow of justice, one that plummeted from the heavens to deliver unquestionably retribution to the evil members of the vile team. The explosive force of the attack indiscriminately sent tents, supplies, trainers, and Pokemon flying. The impact of the attack was so great it created a crater large enough to engulf more than half of the clearing. Yukidaruma, the massive Abamasnow, was the last one to reach the battleground. A blinding flurry of snow and ice encased the remaining foes in unbreakable blocks of ice. The trainer and his team were an unstoppable force of justice.

Yah, he wished. Zyrook's fantasy world shattered like when a pane of frail glass was kissed by an errant baseball. The reality of it all was there was no girl, no evil team, no dynamic entrance, there was just him and his team, sitting in a clearing around a camp fire waiting for their dirt cheep food to cook. And the team wasn't as impressive as he wanted, oh no, not by a long shot. After such a wonderful fantasy the current state of his team was nothing short of depressing. "Arg! Damn I order you all to be that cool right god damn now!" The gathered Pokemon took a brief moment to look up at their delusional trainer but quickly dismissed his order as idiotic and went back to eating. "Damn it! All of you evolve now!" At this point his Pokemon were blatantly ignoring him. "Evolve! Evolve evolve evolve evolve evolve evolve!" He demanded while stomping his foot on the ground, frustrated that the world didn't work the way he wanted it to. The team paid no heed to their trainer's moronic tirade.

The Pokemon of his fantasy were real Pokemon, sort of. They just weren't on that level of awesomeness just yet. With one exception none of his team members had evolved yet. Moeteiru, now nothing more than a Torchic, hopped up from his cold dinner of discount poke'chow that was a few days past its expiration date. "Fellows, our brilliant master is correct, we should return to training as soon as possible." Out of all the Pokemon on the team he was the most eager to evolve. There was a good reason for his enthusiasm, the sixth member of their team, the Pokemon who was training them, was a Blaziken named Sky Runner, his father. The sooner he evolved the sooner he could ditch dear old dad and finally be on his own, well as on his own as he could be in a team. To further is own ends he would often try to spur his teammates into training, though it rarely worked. "I think we should get..."

Moeteiru's little speech was cut short by an errant piece of poke'chow smacking him in the face. "You..." The perpetrator was none other than Kinryoku, the male half of the Ralts twins. He was a rather impudent young psychic who often butted heads with Moeteiru. Now Kinryoku had an odd habit of placing uncomfortably long pauses in the middle of his sentences. This odd quirk made talking with the Ralts a long and often uncomfortable process. "Need to shut up." He finally finished. Unlike Moeteiru Kinryoku was in no particular rush to evolve. The Torchic had another two stages to go before he could even begin to measure up to his father while the Ralts only needed to evolve once before Zyrook would use a stone to force him into his final form.

"Oh that is it, you're going down you albino bitch!" The Torchic took a deep breath and prepared to unleash one of the moves he had inherited from his father. A powerful jet of fire shot from his mouth as he unleashed his flamethrower attack. The roaring inferno extended all of five inches from his young beak. Sky Runner was a well rounded Pokemon who could take on foes regardless of their defenses. Moeteiru, on the other hand, was more of a specialist, focusing his training on pure physical attack. This meant most of the attacks he inherited from his father were utterly useless to him.

"Pathetic." Kinryoku replied with a smirk. The air around him became thick with energy as he focused his mind for a powerful psychic assault. The powerful psychic attack slammed into Moeteiru with enough force to mildly ruffle his feathers. Just like the Torchic Kinryoku was destined for physical combat, meaning he was absolutely useless until he hit his final form. The two stared each other down with angered glares, the two were destined to be among Zyrook's most powerful Pokemon, but for now the two were practically harmless. "We..." Kinryoku stared.
"Need arms." Moeteiru finished for the psychic. He was pissed and really didn't feel like sitting around and waiting for his teammate to finish his sentence.

Zurui, the team's Vulpix, had finally had his fill of the two's bickering. "For the love of Arceus would you two shut up!" The Vulpix demanded as loud as he could. The entire team stared at the little fox with mixed looks of pity and horror. The Vulpix hard broken one of the team's taboos and was about to be punished for it. Zyrook loomed menacingly behind the young fox, ready and eager to dispense the punishment for Zurui's crime. He couldn't understand the language of the Pokemon, but that didn't matter, he could still hear the emotion in their voices.

"You're so cute when you're angry!" The trainer cried as he scooped the adorable little fox up into his arms. He gave his little fox a great big hug as he twirled around the camp fire. Zyrook had a bit of a thing for cute, fox-like Pokemon, a niche members of the Vulpix species happened to fill perfectly. Zurui had no choice but to hang there and wait for his trainer to grow tired of his little display of affection. The Pokemon knew very well that should the Vulpix do much of anything he'd be immediately forced into this humiliating display. Zyrook had the fire stone needed to evolve the Pokemon, he just didn't want to exchange cute for beautiful just yet. Zurui really wished his trainer would hurry up and evolve him so he would have to deal with these stupid love dances all the time.

Chisei, the female half of the Ralts twins, watched the psychotic dance with growing levels of concern. "Um... do you guys think this is okay? I mean, should we stop them?" She looked to her companions for advice, that was a stupid move if she ever made one. Moeteiru and Kinryoku were gorging themselves on their meals, trying to drown their depression with food. Yukidaruma, a Snover and the final member of the team, was just sitting there, staring at everyone. None of the members understood the freakish ice grass type Pokemon. All he ever did was sit and watch everyone else, he didn't even eat his food. Chisei never looked at him for more than a few seconds, afraid he'd snap and attack her if she made eye contact with him.

"Don't worry little on," The elder member reassured. "he'll grow tired of this soon enough." Sky Runner, Zyrook's oldest and most trusted Pokemon. He had been with the crazed man for years now, faithfully traveling with him through four regions. After all of that unquestioning loyalty, all the blood, sweat, and tears, the Blaziken was ready to retire. However he was the leader of Zyrook's team, there was no way he could just retire. He needed a successor, someone to pass the torch to, someone strong enough to entrust the mantel of leadership onto. There was no way for him to retire until the next generation had been brought up to par. Considering the time they've spent together it comes as no surprise that no one knew Zyrook better than the wise fire bird. If he said the boss was going to stop soon then he was going to stop soon.

Chisei wondered if her elder had made a rare missed called. Zyrook was still spinning and twirling around with the poor, agitated Zurui still firmly secured in his arms. That was when a strange, burnt smell filled the camp. "Oh damn it! My ramen!" The trainer immediately dropped his precious little fox and scrambled over to his burning pot. He screamed and panicked as he danced around the fire, desperately trying to figure out what to do with the burning pot. "Yuki! Quick, use water gun!" The creepy Pokemon ignored his master's orders, partially because he didn't know that attack, but more so because he found staring at his master to be far more rewarding. "Right, that was stupid. Oh, what to do, what to do?" Sky Runner casually stood up, walked over to the flaming meal and blew it out. "Oh, um, thanks Sky." He looked at his chard dinner with a longing sigh. "Man, things would be so much cooler if Groudon had joined us." His voice was laced with nostalgia as his mind wandered back to the time he met the mighty master of the land. "Ah, I remember like it was yesterday..."

Several years ago, in Terra Cave: Maxie, the once proud leader of Team Magma, cringed as his final Pokemon crumpled under the unrelenting force of Sky Runner's attacks. His once imposing and well organized Team Magma was in shambles. How could all of this of happened, and at the hands of a single child? It was inconceivable, it was impossible, but it had happened. "Curses, this won't be the last you'll see of Team Magma! We'll be back and you'll be sorry you ever cross paths with out mighty team!" Maxie declared as he retreated with what was left of the evil team.

Zyrook didn't have time to deal with the broken team. Considering the damage he dealt to their ranks they wouldn't be bothering anyone for quite some time. Right now he was more concerned about Groudon, who had been injured by the diabolic machine they tried to use to control the mighty Pokemon. "Are you okay my friend?" Zyrook asked as he rushed to the injured legend's side.

"Fear not my young friend." The Groudon started. Even in his wounded state his voice was still deep, imposing, yet full of wisdom that only comes with living through many ages. "Those vile men were not given enough time to do me any permanent damage thanks to your intervention." The massive beast coughed. "Unfortunatly I must rest now and recover my strength."
"When will you wake up?" Zyrook asked, nearly on the verge of tears. The thought that his new friend was about to leave him was tugging at his heartstrings.
"I know not, but I promise you this young one; when I awaken next I shall find you and my power will be there to aid you. This is my gift to you, for restoring my faith in the human race. Now, I must leave you."

Zyrook let out a forlorn sigh as he stared into his cup of burnt noodles. "Man, I can't wait for him to wake up and join us. Things are going to be so awesome when he gets here." The gathered Pokemon, who had hung on his every word turned expectantly to Sky Runner. Since he had supposedly been there he could confirm their master was as cool as he claimed to be. The sigh he let out was more than enough to tell them Zyrook had pulled that little story out of his ass.
"Well, we did meet Groudon once, but it was nothing like that. Here, let me tell you how things really happened..." The Blaziken said as he began his story of the truth.

Several years ago, in Terra cave, in reality: Four shadowy figures quietly snuck through Terra cave. The place was practically swarming with members of Team Magma. If any members of the ground loving team were to spot any one of the four the alarm would be raised and their plan ruined. Zyrook had gotten it in whatever it was he called a mind that meeting Groudon would be a fun and possibility profitable experience and had decided to sneak past all the guards to pay him a little visit. By some miracle he managed to slip past every member of Team Magma and find the inner most chamber of Terra cave before anyone else. Now staring down the massive, slumbering Pokemon a few of the members were starting to have some second thoughts.

"Uh boss?" Kokoro, a Gardevoir and the father of the Ralts twins said to Zyrook via telepathy. "I don't think this is such a good idea." He was always the voice of reason for the group. Unfortunately so long as Ogui, the Mawile, was on the team such a voice was destined to fall on deaf ears.
"Nonsense, there is absolutely no way this can go wrong." Zyrook said reassuringly. "Now Ogui, hand me the stick." The a grand smile beaming from both his mouths the little steel type handed his trainer a large stick they had found outside the cave. Slowly the young trainer crept closer to the ancient force of nature. Careful not to make a sound he inched ever closer, closer and closer until he was close enough to do what he came to do. Without making even the slightest of sounds Zyrook carefully and quickly jammed the stick far up Groudon's nose.

A pair of massive, bloodshot eyes shot open, followed quickly by an earthshaking roar of pure, undiluted rage. The legend was awake and he was beyond pissed. How dare suck lowly creatures disturb his slumber, and in such a humiliating way? "Oh shit, run for it!" Zyrook screamed as he sprinted away from the now enraged legend. He looked over at his fleeing team, thankful that they were able to keep up with him. Kokoro was able to use his psychic powers to fly, easily keeping up with Zyrook, Sky Runner had his powerful legs to carry him through the caves. Ogui, being so small and slow, had opted to ride on Sky Runner's shoulders as they fled. "Who would of thought he'd get so pissed?" Zyrook huffed as he fled for his life.
"Well what did you expect?" Kokoro though, using the angry thoughts for this one. "You shoved a stick up his nose waking him for a century long slumber!"
Sky Runner ran between the two, attempting to break the two apart. "Look can we focus on staying alive please?" He pleaded.

Maxie had gathered his team together in front of the deepest chamber of Terra Cave. As he was about to deliver his motivating speech to his men a trio of strangers broke through his ranks, fleeing in the opposite direction. "For the love of Arcues run for your lives!" the strange boy screamed as sprinted past the confused team.
"What in the world was that?" Maxie wondered aloud as he watched the child fled. A deep, primordial roar echoed from the depths of the cave. Maxie slowly turned to face the deepest portion, his body nearly paralyzed with fear.

Sky Runner looked at the young Pokemon around the campfire as he brought his story to a close. "If it weren't for the fact Groudon thinks all humans look alike we'd all probably be dead by now." He said in closing. The younger Pokemon had mixed reactions to the tale. Moeteiru and Kinryoku were mortified that their trainer was such a raging incompetent. Chisei was disappointed that Zyrook's more romantic version of events were not true. Yukidaruma stared at everyone, apparently unconcerned with his trainer's idiotic past. Zurui on the other hand was pissed at his master.
"You moron! How dare you lie to us like that!" He demanded.

All Zyrook heard from his fox was a bunch of gibberish. "So cute!" The deranged trainer scooped up his adorable little fox Pokemon and resumed spinning around and around. Sky Runner chuckled as he watched the team and his crazed trainer. The kids had no idea how rough the road ahead was going to be for them. Oh well, they'd all find out soon enough.
