Chapter 4

The sky was already getting dark. The sun was already half-way beneath the horizon, causing a faint orange glow to cover the small town. Joe was too preocupied to notice this though, already walking back to the pokecenter to see if Shara, his zangoose, was still willing to talk to him after how he scared her earlier.

Joe was looking down at his feet, with a distraught look on his face, 'I wonder how I will explain this to her? I mean, I know that she is traveling with me now, and I do actually owe her an explanation of how I got my skills, but.....should I tell her everything? No, no, I think it would be best if I left that part out, but then she would bug me about that too. I guess I can just lie to her about it. Yeah, that'll work, oh but I got to get her to talk to me first. I hope she likes this ribbon I got her.' While Joe was lost in his thoughts, he came up to the sliding doors of the pokemon center, parting for him, making him jump a little because he didn't realize that he was already there.

He walked into the lobby and looked at nurse Joy, "Welcome back! Oh, watcha got there?" she said while curiosly staring at the items in his arms.

Joe takes his eyes off her, "Stuff." he said flatly, waliking past her and down the hallway, towards his room.

Nurse Joy gave him an irritated look, "Rude bastard." she mumbles under her breath.

Joe got to the door to his and Shara's room, and opened it slowly to see If Shara was sleeping or not. Joe peeks in and sees her, sitting on the bed faced away from him. 'Damn!' Joe thought to himself, he was hopeing she was asleep so he could put this conversation off a little while longer.

Joe walks in and shuts the door with a click, catching shara's attention, turning her head around to face him, "Oh, your back." she says depressingly.

Joe was still standing near the door, "Shara, I'm...." she cuts him off.

"No Joe, I'm sorry." she says in a apolgetical way.

Joe was caught off guard by this, "What? Your sorry? I'm the one that should apologize to you, I shouldn't have yelled at you like that. I mean, I was just....." she cuts him off again.

"It's alright Joe, I understand. I shouldn't have been poking my nose in your business like that anyway. I was being rude." she then looked away from him and looked down at her feet.

Joe, still a little surprised, walked up to the bed and sat next to her, wrapping his left arm around her shoulders, "Hey, come on now, you weren't being rude. You have every right to know everything about me, in fact, I would be willing to tell you if you except MY apology."

Shara looks at him in surpise, "Really? You will?" Joe nods, "Well, ok, I guess, apology accepted!" she then smiles at him and gives him a big hug, nuzzling his chest.

Joe looks down at her and gives her a peck on top of her head, "Thank you Shara. Oop! Almost forgot...." Joe turns around grabs a pink bow out of the pile of supplies he bought at the store earlier, "I got you little gift to help with my apology, do you like it?" he asks holding it out to her.

Shara brings her paws up to her mouth and gasps, "Joe, is this really for me? It's perfect!" she snatches it out of his hands and places it on top of her head, it was a little tricky with the claws, but she managed.

She got up off the bed and stood in front of Joe, putting one claw behind her head, and on claw on her waste, "So.....how do I look." she said giving him a wink.

"Your presence would put all other super models to shame." she giggles at this a little and blushes.

"Oh your just saying that!" she said shyly.

"Your right, I am." he said sarcastically, causing her to put her paws on her hips and give him an annoyed look.

"Calm down, I was only kidding!" he said laughing at the same time.

"I guess I can let it slip, this time." she said, suspiciously looking at him.

"Ok, ok, now that that's over, I guess I should tell you a little bit more about myself." he waited until Shara sat back down on the bed.

"Now, where should I begin...." he said scratching his chin, "Well, here is when my story starts. I had a mom and dad like everyone else, but sadly my mom died while she was giving birth to me in the hospital, and my dad was no where to be found, because no one even knew who my dad was. Unfortunately, that meant that I had to be raised in an orphanage because I had no living relatives who could take care of me. I stayed there until I was ten years old, it was at that time that I was adopted by a man named Chuck Kringer. I had no idea what was in store for me when he actually came and got me a few days later and brought me to his home, but you couldn't tell by looking at it, it looked more like a dojo. It turned out that I wasn't the only child there, there were at least ten other kids my age who lived there as well. I wasn't sure why he adopted so many kids, but I didn't care, I finally had a home, for a while atleast. I found out later that he was a martial arts master, specifically Tae-kwon-do, and, well, y'know, we all trained under him for years, living with him as master and student. We all grew him to love him very much, and in time my bond grew stronger with my brothers and sisters. I can still remember their names, Julia, Zach, Tommy, Al, Bill, Cathy, Horris, Greg, Nami, and Sam, but I had an especially strong bond with Zach, almost as if we were real brothers. We always trained together, even though I surpassed him easily, I always went easy with him."

Shara finally enters in the conversation,"I don't get it, if it was so great then how come your by yourself now?"

Joe frowns and faces the window and sighs, "When I turned fourteen, I decided to leave everyone behind."

Shara looks at him confused, "But why?"

Joe then looks at the floor, "Beacause he was killed." he said whispering.

Shara was shocked,"Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry!" Shara hesitates for a second to gather up the courage to ask him another question, "So, how was he killed?"

Joe hesitates for a second, "I...I don't know, none of us do." he then faced Shara again, "But after he died we all decided that we couldn't stay there, after all, he couldn't take care of us anymore, and that meant that we had to look after ourselves."

"But why are you alone and not with one of your siblings?" Shara asks.

"We just didn't about eachother anymore after that, and we went our seperate ways. I have been traveling around for two years just trying to get by, just trying to live, and then I eventually found you, and here we are now." he said smiling, reassuring her that he is fine.

Shara smiles at him, "But I wanna know, what exactly is Tae-kwon-do?"

"Well it's a martial arts style that focuses more on kicks than anything. It has some of the most powerfull kicks you can learn in martial arts. While there is punching involved, I just prefer to kick because I am better with those than my punches."

"Ok, I can understand that, but what does Tae-kwon-do mean exactly?"

"It means, 'The Way Of The Hand And Foot', it's a simple meaning really."

Shara thinks for a minute for anything else she should ask, but could't think of anything else, "So, is there anything else I should know?"

Joe thinks for a minute, "Um...nope, that's pretty much it." he said smiling at her.

Shara, satisfied with this, smiles at him and gives him a hug, "Thank you." she whispers.

Joe smiles, "Your welcome."

After the hug, they both realized how late it was, and how tired they were, " Well, *yawns* I guess we both better turn if for the night. I would take a shower, but I'm just to tired." Joe said with sleepiness in his voice.

Shara yawns as well, "I guess we can both take one next morining we get up" she said, Joe nodding in agreement.

Joe quickly disrobes himself, leaving on his boxers nad his T-shirt, and climbs into bed where Shara was already resting. When Joe gets under the sheets, Shara flips over to face him and drapes an arm over his chest and gives a sweet lick on the cheek, "Goodnight Joe" she says quickly falling asleep, "Goodnight Shara" Joe says, quickly falling asleep himself.

Little did they know, that strange man from earlier was listening in on them through their door, "Why you lying bastard, telling her you don't know what happened, when know better than anyone of us, but I'm not worried, she'll find out the truth....tomorrow! Ha Ha!" he said to himself quietly. He backed away from the door and went to the lobby up to Nurse Joy, "Thanks for letting me visit him, I really appreciate it." he said smiling at her, shaking her hand.

"Are you really related?" she asks. "Cause your nothing like him. I mean, he so rude, and your so pleasent."

The man laughs a little, "Don't mind him, he's always been like that." he said, anyway, i'll be going now if you don't mind." he said turning around and waving goodbye to her.

Nurse Joy remebered something she forgot to ask him, "Hold on, I didn't get your name."

He turns around and smiles at her, "Well if you must know, my name.....is Zach Kringer."
