Never Winter: Chapter 2: Back to Jubilife
Gabriel's eyes opened weakly, his first sight was the white ceiling of a Poké centre, and he could hear Pokémon making sounds. He opened his eyes completely and sat up in his bed, he look past the end of his bed and saw Laura sitting on the floor playing with her Piplup and Gabriel's Riolu, Renu. Piplup was dancing around Renu, who was spinning in circles. Renu fell over, with a dizzy look on her face, both she and Piplup laughed and Laura joined in with a little giggle, before noticing Gabriel sitting in his bed. Laura smiled, "Good morning." She slowly stood up and walked over to the bed, she sat on the edge with her hand on his leg, "Feeling better?"
"Yes... thanks, and thank you again for letting me have this room"
"Oh, no sweat." Laura pet Gabriel's leg. "Do you know what time it is?" Gabriel yawned, not bothering to cover his mouth, Laura giggled. She looked at her watch, "It's eleven twenty-five... yeah you kinda slept for a long time, I came in here at about eight, I thought I would look after... Ren...?"
"Renu."
"Renu... yeah... I thought I'd play with it and keep it company..." Piplup was jumping on Laura's foot, Laura looked down to see Piplup and Renu looking up at her with wide hopeful eyes, she bent down and picked them both up and plopped them on the bed, Renu ran over to Gabriel and dove on his chest, "Oh yeah, and Piplup here wanted to play with her, he was begging to get into your room when I got up... I hope you don't mind."
"No of course not... thanks for having fun with her and keeping her company..." Gabriel stroked Renu's head, "I'm glad she made friends with Piplup."
'Laura teaching me to talk' Renu's small feminine voice echoed in the ears of both Laura and Gabriel. Gabriel looked down and smiled, "Has she now... well that's nice of her." he looked up and now smiled at Laura, who was cuddling Piplup, "You know, I was going to choose a Piplup for my starter. But I've got Renu now; she's all I need.
"Well I think that Renu is great for you and Nurse Joy told me that Riolu can understand us, and that they can talk by using an aura or something."
"Knock, knock--" Nurse Joy entered the room, "--It's time to change your bandages Gabriel, then after that you can go home!" Gabriel smiled, and Renu jumped off his chest onto the bed. Nurse Joy unravelled the bandages on his arms, revealing white bite and claw marks, surrounding dry crimson lines of blood, scaring his skin.
With fresh bandages and dry clothes on, Gabriel stood at the Poké centre counter. Laura was standing beside him holding Piplup in her arms, while Renu was perched on Gabriel's shoulder. "Here you are, Renu's Poké ball." Nurse joy handed over a red and white Poké ball to Gabriel. Laura placed Piplup on the ground and pulled out his Poké ball, "Here, Renu, see what happens." She recalled Piplup into his Poké ball with a bright red beam of light. Renu was terrified; she cringed and clung onto Gabriel's shoulder harder. "Ow!" Gabriel lowered his shoulder trying to escape Renu's claws, "Renu let go please... now!" Gabriel pulled Renu off his shoulder and held her in his hand; she cowered into his hand, clinging onto him for dear life. "You know... I'm not going to tempt fate... I'll just let Renu stay out here with me--"
"With us!" Laura cut in correcting Gabriel, "Huh?" Gabriel raised his eyebrow. "What... you're going to become a trainer right?" Gabriel nodded. "Well then let's go together, two trainers are better then one, what happens if you run into trouble and no one's there to save you huh, me and Piplup might come in handy... and plus you still owe me for the room!" Laura made continuous points trying to convince Gabriel to go with her. "Umm... ok... I would have said yes anyway." Gabriel smiled and Laura smiled back. "Anyway--" Gabriel turned to Nurse Joy once again, "â�"I think that I'll just let Renu stay out here with..." he turned and smiled at Laura, "With us... sound good Renu?"
'Yeah!" Renu's voice echoed in everyone's head again. "Cool." Nurse Joy was greatly thanked by both Gabriel and Laura, and both of them left the Poké centre only to find Professor Rowan awaiting them. "Ah, Gabriel! It's nice to see that you're back on your feet."
"Thanks Professor... so what are you doing out here?"
"Oh well I was just coming to see you, I wanted to give you this." Professor Rowan held out his hand with a Poké ball in it. "What's that for, I've already decided to let Renu stay out here" Gabriel seemed confused by the offer of another Poké ball for his Riolu. "No, no, no... this isn't for Renu... this is your starter Pokémon... this is a Chimchar." Gabriel looked at Renu clinging to his shoulder. "You know--" Gabriel smiled at Renu "--I've already got my partner! I don't think I need another, you can save Chimchar for another trainer!" professor Rowan raised his eyebrows, "Are you sure now?"
"Definitely!"
"All right then... so it seems that you two have decided to go together? Am I right?" Laura stepped forward and answered for both Gabriel and herself, "Yep, we sure have and we're gonna kick everyone's butt!"
"Haha, I'm sure you will my dear. Well I must be off again, I wish you both good luck, come see me if you ever feel the need."
"We sure will. Seeya Professor!" both Gabriel and Laura waved as Professor Rowan walked away, before they headed off in their own direction.
They walked only a short distance before they came to their destination. The Sandgem beach. Laura plopped herself down on the soft sand, letting her bag fall behind her. Gabriel gently sat down beside her, still a little sore from his injuries. Renu jumped off of Gabriel's shoulder and onto the sand, she was fascinated by it, she flung handfuls of it into the air and let it fall on her, she ran around the pair of trainers and dove onto the sand in between them, 'This is fun! Hey another Pokémon!' Renu stood up and pointed off into the distance, Laura was the first to see it. "Hey that's a Shinx." Laura rose to her feet and pulled out a Poké ball. "Go Piplup!" Laura threw the Poké ball and in a beam of light Piplup came forth and a strong stance ready to fight. "Piplup. Bubble!" Piplup took a deep breath, held it and then blew as hard as he could; a large stream of bright blue bubbles came from piplup's beak. But Piplup held his attack for to long. The Shinx saw the attack coming and jumped out of the way before the bubbles hit the ground where it was standing. The Shinx started to run. "Oh no it's getting away!" the Shinx ran fast, to fast for Piplup to catch up with it, it looked over its shoulder, then looked back. Its eyes widened. An open palm landed on the Shinx's forehead, hard. The Shinx was stopped dead in its tracks; it stood perfectly still, staring up the arm of a black Pokémon with a white mask, Renu.
Laura came running up just as the Shinx fell to the ground. "All right let's do this!" she threw a Poké ball at the Shinx, Renu dove away fearing that the Poké ball was coming for her, the Shinx was sucked into the ball by a beam of light, the ball wriggled only once before the light went out, indicating that the Pokémon was caught. Laura threw her fist into the air "YEAH!" Laura had caught the Shinx. Renu went running back to Gabriel, who bent down, picked her up and placed her on his shoulder, "Nice work Renu!"
'Nice work, nice work!' Renu repeated what Gabriel said which made him smile. Laura picked up the Poké ball, shrunk it down and placed it the pouch she kept Piplup's Poké ball in. Piplup slowly walked up to Laura, with his head down, he stopped in front of her. "Naww it's ok Piplup, it was your first battle, you'll do lots better next time!" Piplup perked up after his reinsurance, and he was recalled into his Poké ball. Laura walked over to Gabriel, "Wow, I've never seen such a small Pokémon be so strong!"
"I know." Gabriel smiled at Renu, "Was that force palm Renu?"
'Force palm! Yeah!'
"Hehe, she's so cute Gabriel" Gabriel smiled at Laura's comment.
After a few moments spent on the beach, letting Renu and Piplup play in the sand some more, Gabriel and Laura left for Jubilife. They arrived at the Jubilife entrance, "So where do live Laura?"
"I live in the apartments over near the Poké centre, why'd you want to know?"
"Oh, I just wanted to know where to pick you up later. I thought it would give us a chance to rest and stuff."
"Yeah, I think I need a shower after that storm last night... so where do you live?"
"I live in the trainer's school, my family owns it." Gabriel smiled. "Wow, you own the trainer's school? That's awesome!"
"So when do you want to leave?" Gabriel pulled a device that resembled a Pokédex out of his pocket, "It's twelve twenty now..."
"Well I reckon we should get going at like one thirty."
"Ok then, I'll come to your house at one thirty then." Gabriel and Laura parted ways, but not before giving each other a hug, it only took a few steps for Gabriel to remember something he forgot. "Hey, Laura!" Laura stopped and turned around. "What number do you live in, so I can find you!?"
"I live in number twenty-six" Laura shouted back to Gabriel. They both smiled and returned to walking themselves home.

A single light fell upon a computer console in the centre of a pitch black room. A man in dark clothes stood in front of the console, staring at the screen silently, slowly pressing keys on the keyboard.
Good morning.
Enter password:
The man pressed his fingers against the keyboard.
Good morning.

The screen began to flicker.
468211. Operation's Commander.

A single key was pressed. Y.

Inspect Operation Entities Y/N
The Y key was pressed again. The computer screen flickered and the room lit up with hundreds of bright white lights. The room was large, incredibly large and filled with thousands of capsules filled with dull purple liquid. The man pulled a cigarette out of a silver case, placed it in his mouth and lit it. He walked over to the closest capsule, which stood slightly taller then himself. He ran his hand across the capsule, clearing the condensation from the glass. The man sucked on the end of the cigarette, took it out of his mouth and took a deep breath in, filling his lungs with the smoke. He looked into the capsule, at the dark shadow of a Pokémon, before exhaling the smoke onto the glass. "Excellent..."
The man in dark clothes walked back to the computer console. He once again inhaled smoke from his cigarette. A blue Pokémon slowly walked up beside the man in black, they exchanged looks and the man passed his cigarette to the Pokémon, "Well Golduck... what do you think?" the Golduck inhaled from the cigarette and passed it back to the man. 'Goll...' The man nodded and returned his gaze to the console. "Team Rocket isn't dead yet!" The man pressed hard on the Y key one last time before turning around and walking out of the room, followed by his Golduck.
Execute Operation: 'Never Winter'
The room went pitch black again as the light switched off, and the computer began to shut down, as the sound of liquid being drained away echoed in the room.Chapter End Notes:Sorry for the long wait, I was busy with school and what not. Please enjoy
