Book 2: The Adventure of Private Colin Wright by mechsrule

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 The Village

"Are you okay?" Came a voice disrupting Private Wright's dreams. It was like the sweet sound of the nurses back at base. Someone must have found him and saved him from is cave at the battle field! "Hello?" came the voice again. He stretched a little, trying to open his eyes despite his weariness. He opened his eyes but the world was still a blur; the cave was just a grey blob and standing over him was and improbable bluish blob. As his vision cleared his would have given a small jump but his training took over for the blue figure was a bipedal wolf. He knew instantly it was an enemy, though he never cared much to learn their names other then the most dangerous. He slowly reached for his gun, but felt a pang of fear when he found his holster empty. The wolf started speaking "You should know I took your weapon. No human weapons are allowed in this valley. You can have them back when you leave but no sooner."
This was absurd. Pokémon did not talk! Everything he knew about pokémon was inborn instinct and a little from school. From the day he was born, it was drilled into his mind that pokémon were: violent, in capable of peace for extended periods even amongst themselves, brutal, merciless, cruel, uncaring for the unwritten rules of war, but most of all stupid. Pokémon don't talk. This was something he knew all his life. Sure they had their own language but it was indecipherable and they still shouldn't be speaking human tongues.
"Can you not talk or hear me or something? Is my English that bad?" the wolf asked.
"Er uh" he stammered before managing to get out "I can hear you." He felt stupid for saying something like that but this was a simple barbaric animal. He was also confused by this supposedly stupid creature who was speaking perfect English to him. He finally worked up the nerve to ask is one burning question. "What are you going to do to me?"
"I thought about that for some time." The wolf said stepping back. "Most humans are killed on sight in pokémon lands, and with good reason. Especially you. You must be from that army that attacked last night. I should kill you right now for that. However I won't here. You do know where you are right?" she (for he could tell by her voice) asked. He shook his head nervously. This thing could and would kill him without a thought. They were violent. Though this one was thinking about it which rattled him. "You don't huh? This is known as 'Healing Valley' at least to humans."
"Healing Valley!" he thought flabbergasted. No wonder this place looked familiar; it was the famous Healing Valley.
"So, what do you humans think you were doing attacking this place?" the wolf said leaning in and barring her teeth a bit.
"We didn't know what this place was" he said shamefully and rightfully so. "We were simply told there was as weakened enemy force here and we were ordered to attack. We aren't told why; we're just soldiers nothing more."
"Well I won't kill you. Violence is forbidden in the Valley and even though we are technically outside it, I suppose its morals have me. I will take you in to the village to be treated for your injury. Then I will lead you out of the Valley, return your murder weapon, and watch you leave. If you return baring arms, I will not hesitate to kill you, nor will any pokémon you see on your way out of our lands so I suggest you do not stop to smell the roses to quote the human term." She said growling a bit to emphasize points.
"Well I don't have much to lose at this point. Fine, I think I can limp my way." He said trying to get up. He must have been stiffer then he thought, or had been there for a while; he couldn't pick himself off the floor."
"Need a hand?" the wolf asked him smirking.
"I can do it just fine myself!" he shouted. Finally he rolled over and picked himself that way. He stood trying to find his balance with only one good leg. He stumbled and the blue wolf caught him. Under normal circumstances he would have been disgusted and pushed here away, but he was too weak and tired to care. She hooked his arm around her shoulder and helped him limp out on his good leg into the valley. The valley itself was beautiful even Colin had to admit. It was small with trees on the surrounding slopes. In the center was a wide open area with a couple dozen crude huts. The village itself was abuzz with activity. Pokémon of all shapes and sizes were like ants running around with so much to do. As he and the wolf pokémon helping him walk came within sight of the village eyes turned to stare. He felt very strangely, very out of place like a circus side show but the ones around him were the show to him.
"They probably don't feel that way." He thought. He was surprised by this thought and focused on the thought "Pokémon are just ignorant violent animals." Before adding "for the most part anyway." Sure the ones he had seen were savage and aggressive but the one leading him into the village seemed educated.
As she followed some path through the village she occasionally said something in pokémon to the watchers. The village was very simple; some crude huts that were very small. Finally their destination came into view, a large but still crude building with a large red cross over the door; the universal sign for hospital. Private Wright's guide helped him inside and said something to the nurse a large round pink pokémon with and egg in a pouch on its front. He was glad that none of the pokémon in the village were considered very dangerous as he didn't recognize any. The exchange continued and he ignored it.
*"I know he's human but you know the rules of the valley. Just fix up his leg and we can get him out of here"* said the blue anthro wolf.
*"That is true it is our law despite the war. Fine, I will fix him up in a splint and give him some crutches. That is all I will do."* The nurse replied.
*"Thanks."* She said bowing *"Will any cot do?"*
*"That one there would work best."* The nurse answered rummaging around for the supplies.
"Alright come on she's just going to set you up with a splint and crutches. Just relax and you'll be fine." The wolf said leading him over to a small cot. The nurse said something while bringing over the wooden splints and some bandages. The wolf nodded and translated "She's going to give you some medicine that should numb the pain though it will make you sleepy."
"Er" he started "Thank you uh.."
"Nabooru." The wolf said after he trailed off. With that she turned and left the building. Private Wright took the bowl the pink nurse handed him. It smelled awful but he drank it anyway. It was very effective and stopped the throbbing in his leg before he fell asleep.
