Assault on Darts prt 2
As we had expected, the Pidgey were just the first of our worries, we had trekked through several levels of the forest and were now rather hungry as we had sat down to eat the apples that Aroma had bought. Along the way, we had gained a few levels, thus making us even stronger for the battle ahead.
As I sat and ate the apple with my new bite attack, I watched as Aroma was cooking hers with a newly acquired Ember move while Aroma was healing herself with Synthesis to absorb the sunlight we were enjoying.
"If I understand correctly, Nidorino is a second evolution poison type, isn't it?" I asked as I took out nearly half the apple with a single bite! I'd have to work on getting used to my powerful jaws, but I knew that if I evolved some day, they'd become even more dangerous... If it was even possible for someone like me to evolve due to being human originally...
"Yes, and he's covered in poisonous barbs, which means we need range to take him down. Something which Brimstone and I both have..." said Aroma indicating her Razor Leaf and Brimstone's Ember. "That means that unless you're willing to suffer a bit of poisonous pricks, you're going to want to stay out of the fight..." she added as her leaf drooped at the statement.
"No, no. It's okay. If he's actually powerful, then we'll need everybody to help out. Especially if he's controlling all these wilds in the area!" I replied as I finished off the rest of my apple and tossed the core away. Although I said it honestly, I wasn't very confident about it.
"He doesn't actually control the pokemon, but as ruler over this territory, it's possible for him to recruit members from it." said Brimstone as she was finishing her own apple, "There are still wild pokemon in controlled territory, but they choose not to attack the territory's rulers. Some even ask to serve directly under them. This is how Dungeon Teams grow in numbers is by recruiting wild and sometimes civil Pokemon..." she added
We waited for Aroma to finish off her apple and then we began to head out for the last level of the Woodland Meadow to confront it's current ruler. We had faced Pidgey, Ratata, and Ekans in this place, the most dangerous of which were the poisonous Ekans while the Ratata kept running away after a good smack down, and the Pidgey attacked in flocks. But Darts was apparently the only Nidorino even remotely popular in this area as we hadn't even seen a Nidoran or Nidorina this whole time.
The last level wasn't even part of the forest, but was more along the meadow for which it was named, due to there being a huge circle of trees with a grassy plain in the middle of it, and there in the center was our target, the Nidorino responsible for attacking Dungeon Teams and kicking them out of Woodland Meadow. He was experienced in fighting off groups, this would not at all be easy...
We had intended to sneak up on him, but he was standing down wind and he perked up at our presence the very moment we saw him! Without even so much as a word, he came charging at us with a battle roar, scarring the three of us as we had not expected such a rushed assault.
As me and Brimstone dove to the side, I noticed that Darts was charging straight for Aroma with his horn which I could see was dripping a murky purple color at the tip, a Poison Sting attack! And due to being a grass type, Aroma was weak against it's power, yet she didn't have enough time to dodge it.
"Aroma, look out!" I shouted as I rushed at Darts who simply laughed as he turned in mid charge and came running straight at me with it's poisonous horn. I lept forward as the horn stung into my stomach and clamped down on his back with my bite attack! It was a mistake because not only did his poison sting make a direct hit on me, but I had bitten into his back which was covered in at least four more poisonous barbs!
The Nidorino bucked hard and threw me off it's back as I slammed into Aroma and we both went sprawling across the grass as I felt the effects of the poison kicking in and began to cringe in pain as my stomach felt like I was about to vomit. Aroma quickly got to her feet and saw how bad I was doing as I kept clutching my stomach while struggling to stand and she unleashed a razor leaf on Darts as he turned his sights back on her.
The grass attack struck him dead on, but due to being a poison type, it didn't have any major effects besides ticking him off and knocking him back a few steps, but that changed when he toppled over from behind while smoke erupted from his back to reveal that Brimstone had blasted him with an Ember attack!
Darts whirled around on her and swiftly planted a double kick to her face and chest, sending her rolling back across the ground as Aroma charged him and unleashed a tackle attack to his left flank which caused the Nidorino to stumble briefly before using yet another double kick to swat her away as well!
"I expected a decent team of Dungeon Explorers and I get mere children!" laughed Darts as we were trying to pick ourselves up, me having an especially difficult time due to the poison flowing through me. When I finally did get to my feet, I became angry that this one pokemon was single-handedly mopping the floor with us after we had taken on nearly the whole forest just to get to him! No wonder he was in charge of the place...
As I continued to get angry, I felt my power increasing as I no longer acknowledged the poison and I just rushed him while yelling loudly. As Darts turned to me, I delivered a powerful Scratch attack to his face, leaving three red marks across his snout as he rammed me with a horn attack to the stomach. This time I was lucky he wasn't using his venom. But as he rammed me, I grew angrier and my power grew even more!
"Brimstone, Derek's using his Rage ability, now is our chance!" shouted Aroma as she and her fire counterpart had gotten up from their attacks and were now preparing for both a Razor Leaf and an Ember combo. I realized that the reason my power was growing with my anger was due to Rage, a technique in which a Pokemon could increase their strength simply by being injured!
Well, I always did have a bit of pent up anger, and it was pretty nice knowing that it could fuel my powers as a Pokemon when I needed it! I used another Leer attack as I had become quite skilled in it during our forest adventure, and combined with the furious expression on my face, Darts faltered when he was struck by my attack. That fault gave Aroma and Brimstone the chance they needed to hit him dead on with their combo attack!
Darts pitched forward at me from the impact where I proceeded to smack him face first into the ground with another Scratch attack. Darts gave a loud grunt as he slammed into the dirt hard enough to make a thudding noise and then passed out from the damage we had done. I felt my anger subside and with it, my increased power which caused me to suddenly feel the effects of the venom and my wounds in full force as I collapsed from total exhaustion right next to the Nidorino. The last thing I saw before passing out was the four of us being caught in a brilliant flash of light...
I awoke later to find myself on a bed of straw with Aroma and Brimstone standing over me. Upon my awakening, they both cheered and hugged me tightly, causing me to flinch from the pain which was surprisingly dull considering how much damage I had taken during the fight!
"Derek, we did it!" cheered Brimstone, "We captured Darts and claimed ownership of Woodland Meadow!" she added. I smiled and gave a slight chuckle as Aroma pulled a bag out from under the straw I was laying on and showed it to me. It had the insignia for Grass, Water, and Fire type pokemon and looked big enough to fit quite a few items inside it.
"We surprised that Raichu by capturing Darts and now he's being more respectful towards us! We even got this treasure bag as well as team badges to show us as an official team!" said Aroma cheerfully as she handed me a badge with the same insignia as the bag. I noticed that she and Brimstone were also wearing the same badges next to their heads due to their body type not being designed to wear it on their chests or stomachs, being four legged creatures. I placed my own badge on my chest and was surprised to see it simply stick there while I climbed out of bed to notice I didn't have any bandages on me, and only a few mild bruises that would heal in a few hours.
"How long have I been out? Those injuries should have taken weeks to heal!" I exclaimed while looking at my body to notice how truly amazingly I had healed in such a short time. Aroma and Brimstone giggled at the sight before Brimstone explained to me that Pokemon were so often used to combat, that their natural healing abilities were far beyond that of a human, plus the fact that they had medical Pokemon like Chancy using healing moves to speed recovery. I smiled at this as it meant I was much tougher than my original self, but that brought me back to wondering exactly how I had gotten into this situation to begin with. I was certain I was a human, I could feel it with my very core, and yet I looked and felt like a Totodile in every possible way!
"By the way, what happened to Darts?" I asked as I shook away the thoughts and turned back to my friends. If it had taken the three of us to bring him down, what did the organization do to him, and where would he go, is what I wanted to know.
"Oh, well since it was a bounty mission, he's gone to jail for a while. The warden is watching over him, but he'll be released anywhere from a few weeks, to a few months depending on how long it takes him to come to his senses..." said Brimstone as we left the hospital ward to head back to the main entrance of the Dungeon Team Association.
I also noticed that Brimstone and Aroma were leaning close to me as we continued to walk, and it caused my scales to blush red a few shades as I thought back to how nice it felt being hugged by the two females, despite being partially injured at the time...
"Raichu assigned us our own team quarters here in the association. We all get to sleep with each other!" said Brimstone in a tone that almost sounded like she was intentionally making it to give me perverted thoughts which was actually working! Aroma giggled as we just kept walking and decided to turn in for the day, after having captured the pokemon.
Meanwhile (Nobody's Point of View)
"Well now, that's a bust... Seems Darts got captured by a rescue team when he was just one Dungeon Team victory away from being accepted into our ranks..." said the Ivysaur as he and his partners were standing in the meadow that Darts had just been captured at. It was none other than the same team which Brimstone and Aroma had attempted to hire for their grocery list as the Combusken and Marshtomp stood beside him.
"Too bad, I kind of liked him, but he failed the 10 straight victory test so it's not our problem. Right Phoenix?" said the Marshtomp as the Combusken nodded in agreement. "Anyways, Mandragora, This place is beneath Lust's notice. He's likely to beat us to a pulp if we even bother trying to inform him about losing Woodland Meadow. Lets just go..."added the Marshtomp while speaking to the Ivysaur.
"Alright then," said the Ivysaur, "Phoenix and Swamp, you guys head back to Lust. I'm going to the Association to see if there are any jobs for us to take..." He added while activating his team badge and vanishing in a flash of light while his team members dashed off into the woods again to meet with their leader.
