Darkness.
I open my eyes to darkness. No, there is light. There are millions of lights. Too small, but still there. Stars. I'm outside.
I sit up. I remember now the horrible predicament that put me here.
(Flashback) (This will be going on for a few chapters)
"Hey, Den! Wake up!"
I jolt awake from a co-worker's summons. "Wha, what's the matter?" I said, somewhat groggy.
"Hey, did you hit your head? We're supposed to be presenting a big case today! Don't you remember?"
I remembered. It was the big case I was staying up all night preparing for. "I didn't forget." I merely said.
"Well, we have to be there in like 5 minutes!"
"WHAT!? Five minutes? How the hell are we supposed to get there in 5 minutes?" I jolted out of bed and got ready as fast as I could. I brushed my teeth, I combed my hair, got my suit on that I had steamed the previous day to get rid of the wrinkles, and I still didn't feel ready. "Okay, we need a fast transpo."
"Or a working alarm clock." My co-worker started to snicker. I wondered why.
I looked at the clock. It said 5:43. Our meeting wasn't until 7:00. "YOU GODDAMN JERK! WHAT THE HELL?!" I screamed at him. I didn't really like being woken up at the butt crack of dawn when I didn't need to be.
My co-worker just sighed. "I was hoping to go out for a bite to eat. Sorry if I'm hungry and want to pay for you as well, but if you want, I can have you go back to that mush you call breakfast."
At that, my stomach rumbled. "Eheheh. Sorry, it seems to like to do that every now and then." I was referring to my stomach.
"Of course it does. Only when you're hungry. C'mon. Let's go." He pulled me out of my bedroom and into the outside.
He pulled me right out of my bedroom window. It was spacious enough that a full grown Nidoking and Nidoqueen could have moved through together.
Mercury City. Bustling town of advancement. Cars that run off of the light of the sun and moon, walkways that moved, fingerprint scanners, retinal, anything you can think of, this city more than likely has.
And at the heart of this gigantic city, surrounded by swirling roads that circle around it, was MAC. Miracle Advancement Corporation. The biggest building this side of the Kionz Region.
"Well, what are we waiting for?" My co-worker asked. "We'll carpool. Take my car." He snapped his fingers and whistled. There, just now materializing as if out of thin air, as the cloak surrounding it disappeared, was a brand new Diki 2013.
I just whistled.
"She's a beaut, eh? Just filled out the paperwork on her last night." He walked up to the car and passed his hand next to where the door handle should have gone. The door slid noiselessly open.
I only had to ask. "How much are you paying for this?"
"Well, I already put a hefty down payment on it, so I'm only paying 243 Roes a month!"
"243 Roes?! That's amazing! What's the Solar Charge?"
"12 hours! This baby will even pop out an extra 2 if you need it, but it's highly recommended that you don't."
"Why not?"
"Kaboom. That's why not."
I didn't even argue with him. Instead I asked "Okay, you have all this, now how big of a down payment did you put on her?"
He then looked kinda nervous. "Well, you gotta promise not to tell the boss, but I kinda used about 32 Kros."
"32 KROS!? Ohh, if the boss finds out, you're steam-dried for sure!"
"Well, it was a good investment. Maybe if I use that line, maybe he'll back off!"
"Yeah. And maybe a Jigglypuff's song won't put everyone in the vicinity to sleep."
"Har, har, har. Are ya gonna get in, or what?"
I walked over to the passenger side and saw no handle. "Uhh, do I just do what you did before?"
"Oh!" He clamored in his side for a minute and then I heard a beep. "Slide your hand."
I did, and felt a warm substance stick to it, if only a little bit. "What's this stuff?"
"Bio Reader. It'll seep in your skin in a few seconds."
At that, it seemed he was right. I didn't even feel it at all. "Okay, now what?"
"Scan it again."
I moved my hand across the door, and it opened like his side did. I sat down in the leather-backed seats. There were many buttons and even more levers. I didn't even move, for fear of accidentally pressing a button not meant to be pressed.
My co-worker then placed his thumb where the key would usually go. "Voice confirm?" Said a computerized voice.
"Stan Deeks."
Beeping, then "Welcome Stan Deeks. Off to work early?" This voice was feminine in nature. It was his smart car plugin that he had for every one of his vehicles.
"No, Marsha. I'm taking Den out to breakfast." Stan said.
"Welcome, Denzel Roka." Marsha said.
"I told you, Marsha. I'm called Den." I didn't really like Denzel. It made me feel old. My grandfather was named Denzel. That's where I got my name.
"I am terribly sorry, but it seems my memory database isn't equipped to understand your nickname." Marsha said with a humor-ish kind of attitude.
"Then why don't you download some updated drivers?"
"Why don't you make some?"
It was a good question. No one in the VAI department wanted to make anything else anymore unless they got a pay raise. "Well, I already told you, I can't make new software for you. I'm not a Vehicle Artificial Intelligence specialist."
"My apologies."
It bored me, but Marsha and I always played this when I got in the car.
"Well, ready to go?" Stan asked.
"Yeah. Let's go." I said.
"Marsha, can you find a good place that's open currently for breakfast?"
"Searching." There was some beeping, then "3 restaurants in your area. Ruks, Jackrabbits, Round Mound Steak House. Round Mound is currently having a breakfast spectacular today. All you can eat for 83 Roes per person. Jackrabbits is not having any specials today, and is serving breakfast as normal. Ruks is currently having a 2 for 1 special. Buy one plate of food, and get the second plate of equal or lesser value free."
At the sound of two-for-one, my dear friend Stan's mouth began to water. "Ruks please, Marsha, and step on it."
"Seat belts!" The safety belts pulled over our heads and clicked into safety positions. "Hang on to your boxers, boys!"
With that, there was an almighty lurch, and the vehicle began it's trek halfway across the city.
We entered the Highway and let it take us to our destination.
Stan looked at me and said "Okay. Before we stuff our faces, let's go over what we're presenting."
I sighed. I had gone over this a few times with him already, but I guess practice is always good. "Okay, we figured out a way to expand the human genome to uncharted heights. We have found that breeding with certain Pokemon that share a common characteristic with you will increase the likelihood that there will be offspring. In this case, the offspring will be mostly human, with Pokemon traits, such as attacks, strength, speed, and countless others. We propose that we test this theory with one of our Pokemon."
Stan nodded. "Great. Now we just have to hope that the boss will like the idea." We soon reached Ruks, and there was no more noise to be heard from either of our mouths.
As we were about to enter, there was a commotion around the corner. I, being the curious one, peeked around the corner to see a group of thugs kicking on a poor defenseless Combusken. It looked hurt severely.
"Hey!" I shouted. "What're you doin to this Pokemon?"
One of the guys stopped kicking, while the rest continued the pummeling. "Well, we're trying to teach this thing what it means to step on our turf."
No, I didn't just walk away, like I know I should have. I punched this guy full blown in the face. He fell to the ground, and all the others looked over, as they stopped kicking the Combusken.
"If ya want, I can take you all on at once!" I looked over at the Combusken and jerked my head in one way to get it to run. It got the message, and disappeared without a trace.
When I arrived in the diner, I was covered from head to toe in bruises. "What happened to you? It looks like you got in a fight with a group of Machamps!"
"It feels like I did." I responded.
Just then, the waitress came over to the table. "What can I get for you boys today?"
"I'll have the Douglas Dunka, and a large order of Sausages." Mark said.
"Okay! And you know it's a special day today. 2-for-1 day."
"Yep!"
"Okay. And you, hon?" She directed her attention to me.
"I'll have the Mariose Molasses and a Kerden Roll Platter."
She jotted the info down. "Okay! I'll be right back with your order."
She left, and Mark asked. "So, where did you get those bruises from?"
I told him what I saw, and what happened to me. I told him what I did, and he seemed more amused than shocked.
"Well, it's not the first time you've stuck your nose where it doesn't belong." He started laughing.
"Oh, har, har, har. That Combusken was being hurt! I couldn't just stand idly while that was happening!"
"Yeah, I hear you. It's just there would have been easier ways to deal with it."
Yeah, you're probably right."
The rest of the wait was spent in total silence. After what seemed like hours, the food arrived. "Yum!" was all Stan said before he dug in to his waffle sticks and cheese Eggs, scrambled.
I looked down at my current plate. The Mariose Molasses. Greatest pancake platter in the world. I looked at my watch. It was already a quarter after six. "We'd better hurry up and eat so we can get to work on time."
"Yeah, yeah." was all Stan said, his mouth full to bursting.
After we finished our food, we headed to work, owing to the fact that we were gonna be late, Marsha got us there double time. When we arrived there, the coffee that we had spilled over our clothes. Marsha cleaned us up as best as she could, but the smell was still there.
"Oh well, maybe they won't notice!" Stan said, with a bit of hopefulness.
And luckily, all the other executives actually didn't notice a thing, owing to the fact that they were in the same predicament.
"Lucky us." I said under my breath.
"Now!" The CEO of MAC, Mac Radoka, called to us. "Let's hear this proposition you two have."
I presented my side of the presentation, and Mark gave his side. After we were done, Mac just simply said "No."
I started, surprised that he would give a blatant answer right there in the open. "What? Why not?"
"It is forbidden to have any kind of relations with Pokemon. You know that as well as I do!"
"Well, we can get the law changed, and then it won't have much of an impact on-" Mark began.
"NO! I don't want to hear it. Now, if you don't want to be thrown out of this building, I suggest you drop the subject, and never speak of it again."
"Mac." I said in a friendly tone. Mac and I always got along great. Mark and him? Not so much. "Listen. I'm offering you gold. We could tweak the rules just a bit and-"
"I already gave my answer, Den. I am sorry, but you're just gonna have to find something more suitable. I'll give you two another 3 weeks to come up with something. Til then, I'll see you later." He left without another word.
I turned to Mark. "Oh well. Back to the drawing board."
"Yeah. Oh well." It was lucky for them that they also had a day off for the rest of the today after the meeting.
Mark walked to his car and said "Are ya coming?"
"Nah. I'll get a ride somewhere else. I'll see you later."
He looked at me funny, but just got in his car and rode off.
I took a walk around the area. I looked out over the railing and saw a lush forest, untouched by humans, as per the law of Mercury. If these forests were to be destroyed, then Pokemon wouldn't have a habitat to go to. That forest was the focal point of all the Pokemon in the area. If a Pokemon was hurt, it'd come here if it was close enough.
I enjoyed the forest's beauty for a little while longer, and then started to turn around when I saw a flash of fire. And another. And another. It looked as if someone were destroying the forest.
I rushed to a company car and touched the door with my thumb. The door slid open and said "Welcome, Denzel Roka."
"Yeah, yeah." I took a hold of the manual controls and punched it to the forest. It didn't take me long, and I got to the area where the fire was. All I saw was a Blaziken fighting quite a few Nuzleafs. I mean it was quite a few. So many, that even a fire-type would have trouble with them all.
The Blaziken was throwing Flamethrower after Flamethrower, but it didn't seem to have any effect, as every time she destroyed one, another took it's place. They all were firing Bullet Seeds at every chance they got.
This was almost as bad as when those guys were fighting that Combusken. I went into the car and pulled out a flash grenade. Don't ask me why they come standard in these things, they just do.
I called out "Blaziken, shield your eyes!"
The Blaziken saw me and smiled. It then shielded it's eyes and I threw the grenade. As soon as it went to the center, it flashed, and all of the Nuzleaf were stunned. I went in and grabbed Blaziken and brought it to the car and put her in the passenger seat. I then drove as fast as I could to the city.
As I was driving, I heard something that almost made me crash. "Thank you. That's twice you've saved my neck."
I screeched to a halt, and turned to see the Blaziken, it was definitely female now, as to the voice, and said "Did you just speak human?"
"Well, it's not that hard. It just takes practice." She said.
"Oh." I started back and then said "Wait. Are you that Combusken that I saved before?"
"Yeah. Which is why I said that was twice you saved my neck."
"Well, I couldn't just stand by and watch a beautiful thing like you get hurt, whether by Pokemon, or humans."
She then kissed me on the cheek. "Thank you."
I didn't know why, but I blushed. The first time in my life, I blushed. After that, I drove the car all the way to my house and sent it back to the office. It roared off, and I showed Blaziken to my house.
"I just realized. What's your name?" the Blaziken asked.
"Me?" I was still a bit shocked from her talking, but I regained my composure and said "I'm Den. Den Roka."
I pushed my thumb on the house door and it opened and a voice said "Welcome, Denzel Roka."
"Denzel? You're real name is Denzel?"
I kinda grimaced. "I don't really like the name Denzel. It makes me seem old. So, Den." I then thought for a minute. "I just realized as well. What's your name?"
She took a while to answer. "I don't really have a name."
"You don't have a name?"
"No. I never really received one."
I stared at her for a minute. "Well, can I name you?"
"Well, you brought me all this way, took me to your home, and are you planning to keep me?"
I was dumbfounded by the question, but answered as appropriately as I could "Not if you don't want to stay with me."
She smiled. "Well, I guess it beats getting attacked every which way I turn. I'll stay here with you." I smiled, and she said "So, I guess I can let you name me."
"Okay. How about Blaze?"
"Eww. My father's name was Blaze."
"Okay, okay. How about Neura?"
"That sounds even uglier than Blaze! Where in the world did you come up with that?"
'Damn thought of Neurons. I've gotta stop thinking geek.' "Well, then, how about Taiyala?"
"Hmm? Where'd that name come from?" She asked, but it didn't sound like she disagreed with it.
"Well, it's a Geran word that means 'Fire Princess' and I can't think of another name that fits."
She smiled. "Well, you have my attention, so I guess Taiyala it is."
I smiled. Then, I looked at the clock. It was 11:32 at night. I didn't realized I'd been out so late. Then again, I rarely ever noticed. I then went to the bathroom and said "So, how do you sleep?"
"Come again?" Taiyala asked.
"Well, I wonder do you sleep against something, so you just lay down wherever you wanna, or do you have some kind of sleeping arrangements? I'm wondering what I should do about how you sleep here."
She raised one of her eyebrows and said "Well, I had some sleeping arrangements when I was a Combusken, but when I evolved, I destroyed my bed. I had kind of a leaf bed, and it was somewhat comfortable."
"Well then, do you want to sleep on my bed with me?" I asked. I didn't know why, but I did.
'
She then smiled very brightly. "I'd be glad to! Thank you!"
I just smiled. "Well, it's getting late. We'd better turn in for the night."
She then jumped on the bed, and laid down on one side, as I got in on the other side. I said "House, lights."
The lights instantly went off. "Goodnight, Taiyala."
"Mmhmm." She was already out.
I then said "House, Alarm."
There was a chirp, and the alarm was set. I don't know why it didn't alert me when Mark opened my window this morning, but then again, maybe I just stayed up to late and forgot to turn on the alarm.
I turned in my side, and slept, thinking how gorgeous this 'Fire Princess' next to me was.Chapter End Notes:Tell me what you think. Here comes the second chapter as well
Enjoy, Archer!

Also, not sure if it was you, or the site's formatting, but do try to space out the 'end chapter notes' so it doesn't seem like part of the story.
