The next day, Frederick was walking around the town of Ironspike. He had already visited Ruko's parents and Matariel's parents. He was on his way into town to see the local blacksmiths, Sword and Shield. He found the blacksmiths and entered. Once inside, he saw Sword at the front. Sword was a human male with black hair and blue eyes.
"Ah, Frederick! You need one of those tools or weapons of yours fixed up again" Sword asked. "No thanks, Sword. I would like to see if Shield is interested in having my daughter Rukaria as an apprentice." Frederick said. Sword nodded and went to the back. After ten minutes, he came back and said, "Shield has agreed to have Rukaria be an apprentice. But we are pretty busy. In fact, I was just here to check if we missed any orders." Sword then quickly checked a slip of paper. "Ok. But can I ask one thing? How is Shield after the accident?" Frederick asked. "She's fine. And she's still working. Nothing can really get Shield away from her hearth for long. Unless it's the idea to train someone in the ways of being a blacksmith." Sword replied. "Okay. Tell her to come by my place next week. All right?" Frederick asked. "Yeah, I'll tell her that." Sword said with a nod. "Ok then. See you later, Sword." Frederick said as he walked out the building wondering if Rukaria would like being an apprentice for a blacksmith.
A week later. For the past week, Rukaria had been playing with her friends whenever she got the chance to. But she woke up one morning and saw her parents talking to a Lucario she had never seen before. This Lucario was female. She was a foot taller than most Lucario and her fur coloration was that of a 'shiny' Lucario. Her eyes were an odd color for a Lucario as they were a royal purple. And she was missing the spike on her chest.
"Rukaria, I would like you to meet Shield. She will be spending the day with you. Just to get to know you." Solaria said. "What happened to your chest spike?" Rukaria asked. Frederick and Solaria looked at each other, thinking that maybe Rukaria should of not said that. But to their surprise, Shield merely laughed. "I get asked that question quite a bit. I'll tell you later. But why don't we just go out and take a walk? I would like to get to know you." Shield said. Rukaria looked at the tall Lucario and said cheerfully, "Ok!" "Shield, just be careful. I think the bandits are after her the most now after what happened last week." Solaria said. "Don't worry. Last time those bandits attacked, I took a large number of them down. But I confess I would've been done for if it wasn't for that Suicune helping us." Shield replied. After that, Shield and Rukaria left to spend the day getting to know each other.
Shield and Rukaria walked around the city when Rukaria asked, "So how did you lose your chest spike?" "Well, I lost it in an accident. It happened when I was doing one of the things I love to do most in the world. And that is blacksmithing" Shield explained. "Blacksmithing? What's that?" Rukaria asked. Shield grinned, knowing they were going to talk about something she loved. "Me and my husband, Sword, are the local blacksmiths and we deal with making and repairing weapons and tools. Your parents are loyal customers to us. And your father even asked me if I would take you in as an apprentice. That's why I want to spend the day with you. To get to know you as master and pupil." Shield replied. "Does this mean you also want to be my friend?" Rukaria asked.
"Of course I will be your friend Rukaria" Shield said. "I heard you talking to my parents and you mentioned a Suicune. I have heard of them but why did one come here?" Rukaria asked. "We don't know the Suicune just came into town one day and helped us. We don't know much about her besides the fact she had a human mate 200 years ago and she had one child with him" Shield said. "Can I ask you something. My mum and dad said that our clan is different from others. Why is that?" Rukaria asked. "Well we Lucario of the Ironspike clan are different from other clans. One example Lucario finding human mates is quite common in our clan. My husband Sword is human. Altough Human/Lucario hybrids are also common me and Sword are too busy to have a child. Tough we always wanted one but we agreed that when the time comes we will have a child" Shield said. Rukara just looked confused at Shield. Shield chuckled and said "Don't worry you will know when are older" Rukaria and Shield spent the rest of the day talking and playing. But it was soon time for Rukaria to go home. But she was looking forward to when she can see Shield again.
"So did you have fun with Shield?" Frederick asked his daughter. "Yeah she is really nice. I hope I get to see her again real soon" Rukaria said. Solaria and Frederick turned to each and looked at their daughter before saying "Well you will be going to see Shield in her work place tomorrow. So you can learn a few things about blacksmithing" Frederick said. Rukaria then let out a shout of happiness. "Come Rukaria. Dinner is ready. Lets eat and then get you washed up and ready for bed" Solaria said. Rukaria sat at the table and began to eat the meat and the vegetables that both Frederick and Solaria work hard to grow on their farm. Once she had finished and had be washed Frederick took his daughter to her room and put the sleepy Riolu down on the bed. Rukaria fell asleep quickly and Frederick gave her a small kiss on the forehead before walking out of the room.
