"So yeah... I was like, 'what is this place?' at first because, well... this place wasn't supposed to really exist and stuff... ya know?"
"Yeah yeah details details Shouri, now get back to the story."
"Oh fine~ so anyways, you might be wondering if our parents are worried huh? Well... we're both orphans actually. Yeah, so at this point if we go missing, at most like 2 or 3 friends of ours will be the only ones to really miss us so its fine. But yeah, back to the story..."
-------------------------
"So... um... yeah... uh... " I stuttered slightly trying to find out exactly what to say at this point. We had already been at Mrs. Ketchum's place for two days "resting" as Mrs. Ketchum called it... or "doing absolutely nothing and completely wasting our time instead of trying to find our way back home" ... as i called it. -What the hell am I supposed to say here? God I hate talking to new people.-
Thankfully Professor Oak decided to pipe in, "Shouri, I take it you want to know why you both are here?" I nodded as he continued. "Well Shouri, it'll be a lot to take in, so please do go change and have breakfast first. Both of you should drop by my lab later where I'll fill you in on the rest of the details." -Rest of the details? Figures I got left out on the earlier details... -
"Uh, sure. We'll be over as soon as possible," -How annoying, just give me a pokemon or something already and an explanation of what's going on... I'm bored already!- "see you later Professor Oak." I finished with perhaps too wide a smile. Or at least that's what I figured since Jonathan gave me an "I know what you just thought" kind of look.
After waving goodbye, I decided to at least have a look around her place before we ate making mental notes to myself. -Clicheic red couch, almost as generic as clicheic TV, plain yet tacky wallpaper, and finally a small round carpet... wonderful... I guess you can't expect much out of the ordinary when you're somewhere you've seen who knows how many times already. I wonder if seeing all of this in the game just killed the excitement of actually coming here...- As I roamed the rest of the house I noticed a few pictures and muttered, "What the..." -This picture is...-
"He was my little boy..." Mrs. Ketchum started. -That scared the crap out of me... appearing out of no where...-
-Was...- That simple little word would normally have had little meaning... but her voice... -She's hiding that sadness behind her smile pretty dam well. God, that sadness in her voice made my spine twitch in a not so good way.-
-I wonder what she meant...- I turned back to the picture and pondered for a bit more before it struck me. "He... died?" I hadn't meant to say it but those words managed to just barely escape my mouth. I turned back to face Mrs. Ketchum who simply turned around before I could see her tears but still managed to tell me breakfast was ready without so much as a crack in her voice.
-Hmm, I guess I should ask Professor Oak about that.- I took a look down the hall as she continued to walk away. She still had a nice figure despite her age.-I really have to stop checking out other people's moms. And that hair fits her way too perfectly as well as that outfit.- But something was wrong, and it took me a while to actually figure it out. -Her walk is empty.- It had almost no life to it. And despite the fact that I could only see her back, I knew that she was smiling. It was beginning to annoy me. -You can go ahead and deal with your own problems on your own time, Mrs. Ketchum. I just wanna either do something interesting here or go home... actually strike that... what the hell have I been saying, home's boring... get me something fun to do around here already!-
"Here you go Shouri. Eat up." I was handed a plate of two sunny side eggs, some sausage, and a glass of orange juice. -Well at least there's some things I can count on in this world. Nice to know.- I wolfed down the food as she went back about doing who knows what. Jonathan sat across me looking as if he was in heaving contemplation. I decided to get his attention.
"Whatcha thinking about?"
"Huh? oh not much."
"Wha'da mean not much? You're thinking about something."
"Well, just wondering about what's going to happen next."
"Simple. We go see Professor Oak, we get our first Pokemon, and go on an adventure!" My sarcastic tone managed to get a smirk out of Jonathan.
"See there you go, now you aren't so serious."
"Heh, guess not Shouri. Will we even get one though? I mean... we're way past 10 years old."
"Oh that just means we're over our due date. Thus, let's go collect what's due to us! Perhaps with a bit of interest."
"Uh, if you say so... just remember, we're not from here and they don't know... or at least i think they don't know that this is a game world to us; they just know we're from somewhere else. So don't give away anything too obvious away. We can know some basic info at best. But that's it. And also, uh... you have a little something..." Jonathan gestured towards his own face.
"Oh... dammit."
"Heh, you always were a sloppy eater."
"Hey! I'm not that sloppy!"
"Yeah but you still manage to get your food somewhere on your face at least once every meal."
"Oh come on, even if that's true its still not that messy. It was barely a bit of ketchup."
"Still, doesn't mean I'm wrong."
"Whatever, lets just go."
Mrs. Ketchum was still no where to be seen so we cleaned up after ourselves in the kitchen and made our way towards the bedrooms to dismiss ourselves. -Ohh, I see stairs. In her room maybe?- We walked past the same boring living room I inspected earlier. I expected the same blandness from the rest of the house though I received a strange surprise as I walked up the stairs. Oh wow, upstairs actually has some decent color to it. There's even some nice white crown molding along where the wall meets the ceiling. -Mixes well with the red walls. Wait... what the hell am I doing? Back to business Shouri. Back to business! ... Note to self... I probably shouldn't randomly open her door. If this were a TV show or some poorly written fanfic I'd probably end up walking in on her while she's changing. ... Hmm, Ah! There's her door.-
"Oh! Leaving already you two?" -There goes my spine twitching again. How the hell does she keep appearing behind me?-
"YES!" I nervously blurted. -Why the hell did I yell that out.- "I mean um, yes. We're going to see Professor Oak now." Jonathan nodded behind me.
"All right then, I'll see you two off." She turned around and walked down the stairs gesturing us to follow her. "Please do be careful you two."
"So Jonathan... do please be a pal and share the details you've neglected to inform me of." My face formed a deceiving smile which along with my tone reeked of: "That statement might sound polite but I'm pissed off I got left out."
-------
-Note: When he begins the explanation there words should all be mashed together since he starts talking really fast. I've added dashes in between for your reading convenience. Imagine the explanation as if it had no spacing between words whatsoever.
-------
"Uh... fine but you're not gonna like it..."
"I already don't like it though since I got left out, even if it were good news."
"Temper temper," Jonathan wagged his finger towards me. " Anyways, the short version of it is this:
So-there's-this-thing-about-an-eevee-and-apparently-this-eevee-is-a-special-eevee-because-of-a-prophesy-and-whatnot-that-tells-about-a-destined-pokemon-traveling-to-another-dimension-to-bring-some-hero-back-to-the-pokemon-world-or-whatever-to-save-the-world;-wonderful-plotline-huh?... Anywho-apparently-the-chosen-pokemon-which-I'm-assuming-is-eevee-will-bring-with-him-a-warrior-to-fend-off-a-force-that-sides-with-neither-the-good-nor-bad-side. So-I'm-apparently-that-special-someone-and-you're-not-supposed-to-be-here-and-you're-only-here-cause-you-grabbed-onto-my-shoulder... and that's about it. Oh yeah, they know we're from a different world type of place but they don't know we see this as a video game/anime in our world. So like I said earlier, watch what you say."
"Ooookaaayyy. I vaguely followed that. So we're, uh.. you're now a part of a cheesy storyline about saving the world. I'll give em creativity points in that its at least not your typical good versus evil thing, after all they added in neutral." Jonathan quickly picked up on my sarcasm and gave me a light punch.
"I'm amazed you're not complaining about being a third wheel in this."
"Oh well that's simple. You go save the world. On the otherhand, I'll be here finding something fun to do." I grinned devilishly for a quick moment before a pole hurtfully decided it would cease my movement.
"And that would be called Karma for being lazy, Shouri."
"How are lazy and walking into a pole related? And what the hell's this pole doing here? It doesn't do anything..."
"Who cares? Anywho, according to the Pallet Town map Mrs. Ketchum gave us that's Professor Oak's house."
"Okay, let's do this." -Wait... town maps are nice and all, but we know this place inside out already... wait... woah, huge layout change... what the hell.... ... ... Town Map it is then...-
~~~~
"Well hello there you two. I'm glad to see you two look well rested." Professor Oak began walking around his office, with us in tow, showing us the various things in his lab and explaining a few of the pokemon world. -We KNOW these things already. Howsa 'bout you tell me why that useless pole was conveniently placed in the middle of the sidewalk.-
An hour of charts and explanations and short movie clips courtesy of the lab assistants, we officially knew what we would need to be able to survive in the pokemon world. The rest we'd be "picking up along the way" according to Professor Oak.
"And so with no further delay. Jonathan, here are your pokeballs and oh where is he? Oh there he is. Jonathan I'd like to introduce you to someone you might find familiar." I turned over to see what the professor was pointing at. -Gah, it's that eevee.- It walked towards the professor somewhat timidly and slowly. "Well now Jonathan, this, as you might remember, is the eevee that brought you here and also your very own pokemon." The eevee seemed all too happy though to rush to Jonathan's lap. -Likes him already. I'll wait for a few more seconds, and if not I'll ask...- I remained sitting staring towards Professor Oak.
"Unfortunately Shouri, we weren't... expecting you," -Huh, not expecting me, Nice save there.- "So we're not quite sure what to do. We'd like to leave you to make the choice here."
"Okay, so what are my options?"
"Well, you can choose to go back home."
"Or?"
"If that doesn't suit you then you can always choose one of two paths here. If you're not interested in Pokemon, you can always stay here under Delia's care and find a nice job, there are plenty around. Or if you are interested in Pokemon, then you can always become a trainer."
"I think I'll go with option C. What pokemon can I get?"
"Well, normally you'd choose from a starter. But that's usually done because trainers start at age of 10 so we give them a pokemon that's easy to work with. Since you're quite older," -Look who's talking.- "you can choose from amongst the pokemon I have back here." He gestured towards a door which I presumed to lead outside.
"Wow, that's a ton of pokemon!" We were now in Professor Oak's yard? farm? field? who knows what to call it. -Eh? What the hell's a mareep doing here?-
"Ah, I see you have your eyes on that mareep there."
"Yeah, it looks interesting. Are there many of those around here?"
"There are some, but not as many as in the Johto region. Would you like this mareep then Shouri?"
"Sure." -Ampharos would definitely be good to have after all.- "I'll do my best with it."
"Her actually. Will you name her now?"
"Um... I think I'll wait on that Professor Oak."
"Well then, lets get you two your starter packs shall we?"
~~~
A starter pack and thorough class on proper catching techniques later~
~~~
"So Jonathan, what now?"
"Apparently I've been brought here ahead of time to allow me to get used to this place."
"Ah, so basically its 'train and adventure until you're needed?' or what?"
"Yeah pretty much."
"Don't you think everyone seems pretty relaxed though? I mean, with this whole prophesy thing and you being the 'chosen one' there's hardly any commotion."
"True... maybe people just don't know about it?"
"It's very well possible that only the professor and his assistants know. But whatever, lets go!"Chapter End Notes:As always reviews are appreciated. I'll gladly accept any constructive criticism.
More pokemon to be included in the next chapter :3 That's when things start kicking up a notch. Also, since I've got quite a lot of ground to cover, I wont have the character spend any particularly long amount of time in any given place
