The Adventures of Hogosha by fushichou_no_jigoku

Chapter One- Blood and Tear

Hogosha silently stood up, drawing one of the nine throwing knives he had sheathed on his belt, preparing to throw it and impale a large dragonfly that was on a tree ten feet away. He'd always relished the challenge that hunting with a mid-range weapon, such as a throwing knife, brought, but he had quickly found that his conscience forbade hunting even the smallest bug-type pokemon, so he was reduced to tracking insects.

So, anyway, he drew the slender-bladed, dual-edged throwing knife from its sheath and took aim. Before he could throw it, however, he heard the roar of an engine, and a blue blur shot past him. Almost as soon as it was out of his grasp, he heard a gunshot, and felt the searing wind as the bullet went just over his right shoulder. Instantly, the blue blur rolled to a stop, trailing a red fluid.

Before he could think, Hogosha spun around, sheathing his throwing knife and drawing a different type of blade. This one had a nine inch long, by one and a half inch wide blade, with two inches of serrations at the base of the single sharpened edge, a talon-style guard, and a cloth-wrapped, steel hilt.

As he stopped, facing the way his back had been, he damn near panicked. In front of him was a pickup truck with five men (one driving, another in the passenger seat, and the rest in the bed) and all of them were holding what appeared to be single-shot, single-barreled, twelve-gauge shotguns, all of which seemed to be pointed right at him. at once, he instinctively took a defensive stance (weight centered so that he could go any direction instantly, legs spread to a forty-five degree wedge, pommel of the knife by his thumb, his upper arm slightly raised with his forearm at a diagonal to his chest with the blade of the knife covering his chest, edge facing away from him) even though he knew it would do him little good.

Upon seeing his reaction, the man in the passenger seat got out of the truck and said "Lower your weapon son, we're only after the suicune, over there. There's no need for violence," which both pissed Hogosha off and gave him an idea.

He stepped back as the man came forward, sheathing his knife, and hiding his rage behind a polite expression and thinking "This is gonna require a shit-load of luck."

As the poacher came up next to him, he swiftly drew his blade and leaped forward. When he reached the man, he back flipped and sent his gun skywards with a kick to the barrel, and, landing on his feet, he lunged forward, shoving his blade through the poacher's sternum, and severing his aorta. Before the man could even register what was happening, he was dead. Before he could crumple to the ground, however, Hogosha grabbed him in a stranglehold, spinning to face the rest of the poachers.

By the time he had spun around with his new shield to face the remaining poachers, two things were happening. First and foremost, the rest of the poachers had begun to realize what was happening, and second, the dead man's shotgun was beginning to fall. As soon as the shotgun was within reach, Hogosha plucked it out of the air and aimed it at the nearest poacher (the one in the driver's seat), pulling the trigger and firing the slug at the same time as the poachers. The difference was that his slug went right through the windshield and nailed the driver right between the eyes, but of the four slugs fired at him, only one made it past his shield. Unfortunately, that one hit an artery in his left shoulder, and he knew that he would die if he didn't get medical assistance soon.

"Well, I guess all those years spent in marital arts and at the shooting range with dad had some use after all," thought Hogosha, then "that and sheer luck...Oh, great, here I am, laughing at a life or death situation. That is so typical of me."

While the men were reloading, Hogosha dropped the corpse and drew a throwing knife in either hand. He threw them at the exact moment they finished reloading, and two of the poachers dropped like rocks, blood pouring from where the blades were sticking out of their throats.

Unfortunately, the final poacher was already aiming at him by the time he started to go for another knife. In the instant before he fired, the world seemed to stop. As the trigger was pulled, a blue blur shot past him and ripped the man's throat out at almost the exact moment the slug penetrated Hogosha's lung before coming out his back.

As he fell to the ground, he saw the suicune walk over to him, and stayed conscious just long enough to say "Sorry I couldn't stop them before they wounded you," and with that, he passed out.

Seeing the human who had risked his life for it slowly fading from life, the suicune knew it had to do something, but they were miles from the nearest settlement, so what...wait! There was one possible way, but...the more the suicune thought about it, the more it realized that the human would most likely hate it if it did that.

This internal conflict went on for some uncounted number of seconds, but what finally convinced the pokemon was the gradually growing pool of blood that was forming around the human. "He saved my life without hesitation, so now I'll do everything in my power to save him, I owe him that much, at least," it thought, and with that, it reached down and bit its own upper leg, letting the blood run down to its paw and mix with the tears that had fallen there. The concoction then moved down and coated the claws, seemingly of its own accord. When it was all there, the suicune swiftly opened four shallow gashes on the human's chest, and he cried out in pain.

However, when this ritual was complete, all of his wounds began to steam for no apparent reason, and then they began to heal, fluids that were still in his body going back to where they belong, holes closing, and lost blood regenerating.

When his wounds had healed, the suicune picked the human up and put him on her back, beginning the long walk back to her den whilst the changes began.
