Chapter 1 Tarra and Charm

Chapter 1 Tarra and Charm
Tarra walked down the shore of the beach nervously, hoping that no wild Pokémon would attack her. She was a Mudkip that was quite concerned about the situation of treasure town. After the Guild was abandoned, disasters started happening more and more, and with no Guild they were becoming dangerous. No one even dared to go into Beach Cave any more, fearing that they might become lost or be defeated.
Tarra sighed, looking out at the beautiful sight of the sea. She wondered what happened to the Guild. The elderly citizens of Treasure town never talked about it.
Tarra felt the wind on her skin. "Help..."
"What was that?" Tarra asked herself. It sounded like someone was whispering for help. She looked around but saw no one.
"I guess it's just my imagination." Tarra sighed.
"Someone... Please..."
"There it is again!" Tarra began walking cautiously toward the direction she thought she heard it come from. In the distance she thought she saw a little red dot. She ran toward it, not caring that it was in the entrance of Beach Cave.
As she got closer she saw it was a Charmander.
"Hello?" Tarra approached a bit more shyly. The scales of the Pokémon were scratched and cut in places.
The Charmander groaned. "Help please!"
"I-It's okay!" Tarra stuttered, not believing her own words. "I d-don't know w-what to do!" she stuttered to herself. She tried grabbing onto the Pokémon's leg with her teeth and pulling but that only injured the Charmander further.
"I'll be r-right back!" Tarra ran out of the cave and into the bushes, looking for a stray Oran berry, a rare treat now that Pokémon were too afraid to harvest them in Oran Forest. She ruffled through the bushes, not concerned about her own safety. Luckily she found one without running into any trouble. If she had run into a Pokémon, she would have been toast. She ran back to the injured Pokémon with the berry in her mouth.
"H-here! Eat th-this!" she muttered after placing the fruit by the Charmander's mouth.
The Pokémon weakly reached out and pushed the berry into its mouth. the Charmander chewed, swallowed, and soon the scratches and injuries disappeared from its skin.
"Thank you!" The Charmander sat up. "You saved my life!"
"Can we talk elsewhere?" Tarra said nervously, looking around the cave.
They hurried out of the cave and ran down the beach shore, stopping on the beach path.
As they huffed the Charmander said, "My name's Charm."
"I'm Tarra." Tarra replied. "I'm a girl."
"Well I'm a boy."
"I know, I saw." Tarra blushed, her face turning a little purple. Charm's scales turned a little redder, signaling that he was blushing, too.
"What happened to you?" Tarra asked as they caught their breath.
"I was attacked by water type Pokémon. I'm a fire type, I don't do well against water. I can't remember what happened other than I went into the cave and was attacked."
"Can you remember why you were in the cave."
"Not really."
"Well you need to rest. Come to my house." Tarra led Charm through the beach path and came to the cross roads. A rust bell hung from an old sign near a dry well. Directly in front of them was the ruins of the stairs leading to Wigglytuff's Guild. They turned left.
"What was that way?" Charm asked Tarra.
"Wigglytuff's Guild. It was a place where a team of explorers help the Pokémon in need. It was once a glorious place I'd imagine."
"I'd love to work there."
"Too bad. It was run down years before either of us were born." Tarra had never thought about something like that. Now that she did she saw that she too would have loved to work there.
"Here we are at Treasure Town." Tarra announced as they passed the ruins of the Duskull bank. Now that no one went into dungeons, their was no goods to buy other than berries grown at home. No goods to buy means no money circulating. Their was no need to store money because no one had a very large amount.
Pokémon scurried about in the town square past the bank. Past the square was the run down Electrivire Link Shop that no one seemed to remember what went on there.
A rather large building was also run down that was titled Marowak Dojo. No one felt the need to train, thinking it would be useless because only the Guild kept them safe.
It seemed that the only working shop was Chansey's Daycare.
"Who's your friend, Tarra?" a Turtwig asked before tripping the water type. He laughed at her.
Tarra got up off the ground and yelled at him. "It's none of your business, Jackie!"
Another Turtwig was behind Jackie. He stepped in between the two glaring Pokémon. "Stop it both of you." He ordered. He turned to Jackie. "I told you to leave her alone at the very least."
"Who are they?" Charm asked Tarra.
"Jackie is the little one and Tyler is his big brother." She still had some hatred on her tongue as she spoke.
"Sorry Tarra." Tyler said to her. "Who is your friend anyway?"
"I'm Charm." Charm introduced.
"I'm Tyler. Sorry for my brother's rudeness. He's a pawful. We don't see many strangers in town. The social system of this town is a vast web where everyone knows everyone else."
"Why don't you see many strangers?"
The three of them gawked at him. "are you serious?" Jackie shouted sarcastically. "no one wants to brave the wild Pokémon outside town."
"Jackie!" Tyler warned. Jackie just turned around and walked off.
"Well isn't he charming." Charm said sarcastically. Tarra giggled a bit.
"Hi Tarra!" Charm heard a Shinx greet his friend.
"Hi Kip." She replied. "Charm this is Kip. Kip this is Charm."
"Hiya!" Kip greeted. "I'm Kip as Tarra said. You must be brave to travel through the wild."
"thanks. I don't know whether you're right or not though." Charm said.
"What do you mean?" Tarra asked.
"Before I said to you that I couldn't remember much about how I was defeat in Beach Cave, but I didn't realize at the time that I can't remember anything about my life." Charm's voice cracked a bit as he said it. It seemed to make the reality of his memory loss much worse when he said it out loud.
"H-how is that possible!" Kip gasped.
"Nothing... you can't remember a single thing?" Tarra was shocked as well.
"Nothing." Charm said. "I can remember things like what a berry tastes like or how many toes I have but nothing else."
"that's so sad!" a new voice behind him cried. They whipped around to see a sorrowful Pikachu. "I was coming to happily welcome a visitor or new citizen of Treasure Town, but now I'm so sad!" She cried.
"This is Ginger." Tarra said.
"Will you be staying long? Do you need a place to stay?" Ginger asked him.
"I'll stay as long as I need. And I'm staying with Tarra." Charm said.
"Well you can ask me for help if you need it." Ginger offered. "I'll be around town."
"Thanks for your consideration. Before you go, though, can I ask you not to spread the word of my loss of memory." Charm pleaded.
"If you insist." Ginger headed off through town after the sentence was spoken.
"do you think she'll keep her word?" He asked his friends.
"Ginger's trustworthy." Kip smiled. "Why do you want her not to spread the word?"
"I'd rather not be the center of attention right now. Can I ask you two to do the same?"
"Of course." Tarra smiled at him.
"How would our friendship last if we couldn't trust each other?" Kip smiled as well. "Has he seen the west side of town yet?" he asked Tarra.
"Not yet. C'mon Charm. Let's go."
Charm followed Tarra and Kip across a bridge to the western side of town. Shelters were built on both sides of the river.
In the western side of town was another town square. this one wasn't as busy as the first and it had only one working shop called Kangaskhan Storage.
Next to it was the Kecleon Shop. It was run down, but a Kecleon still lived there.
On the other side of the square was the ruins of a shop that had a sign so old that no one could read.
"this is the west side of town." Tarra announced.
"Why is it so..." Charm trailed off.
"so what?" Tarra asked.
"Why is it so ruined?" Charm finished.
"It is not ruined!" Tarra yelped.
"It's okay Tarra." Kip cut her off before she could continue. "Tarra look at this place. It's dying."
Charm, fearing that a fight would break out, decided to interrupt. "Okay I'm sorry Tarra."
Tarra sighed and hung her head low. "No... don't be sorry... I know this place is dying... I just don't want to admit it."
Charm was feeling a little awkward now and the silence wasn't helping. "Uhh... maybe we could go see your place now."
Tarra's spirits lightened. "Okay!"
"I'll stay here." Kip stated as the two of them left.
Charm followed the Mudkip as they walked along the river. They passed a couple small houses when Tarra suddenly went to the front door of one. Charm assumed it was hers. It had a disproportionately low roof. They went through a small opening, presumably the door, and saw that the inside was cut into the ground which would explain the low roof. A bed of straw was all that was in the first room except for a table in the corner with a couple of berries on top of it.
"This is my home." Tarra said excitedly. "I've lived here since I was a kid."
"Impressive." Charm complimented as he walked down the stairs to the floor. He meant it, too.
"There's only one bed, though so we'll have to share." She smiled widely. "Think you can stand sleeping with me?"
"You have no idea how wrong that sounded." Charm commented.
Tarra leaned in toward him and said, "I meant it to sound like that." She giggled at Charm's surprised expression. "You won't mind will you?"
"Of course not." Charm said, wondering whether or not Tarra was joking about what she said or not.
