Chapter 4: Viridian Forest

Chapter 4: Viridian Forest

"Green! I challenge you to a.... What the hell?!" At first glance it looked like the interior of the Viridian City Gym was built with Lego blocks, then at second glance, I could confirm that is was built with giant cement Lego blocks. "What the hell is with the Lego?"
"What?" A voice called from the other end of the gym, it was Green. "I had the interior planned out when I was young." Green looked a lot like Prof. Oak. Well, he would considering Green is Oak's nephew. He had the same kind of hair as Oak; just it was really poofy and spiky on the front. "Have you come to challenge me?" He asked.
"Um... Ya..." I walked toward Green.
When we finally were within fighting range, he said, "Let me see your badges."
"Badges? Um..."
"C'mon now, there are others who would like to challenge me today."
"I don't have any badges yet, this is the first gym I've come across."
Green moved his hair out of his face. "Really? I figured this was a weird spot for a gym. You see, this is for big boys. You know, people who have the other seven badges."
I let down my battle stance and stared at Green for a moment. "Wait... You mean this is where I can get the Earth Badge?"
"Well yes... Even though I use a diversity of Pokémon, not just ground types. Now, return when you have the other seven badges. Big boys only."
I turned around and before leaving said, "Big boys? Have fun with you Lego blocks." As I walked away, I could hear Green yelling profanity back at me.

So it turns out that one was a dud. I couldn't get a badge from there since I hadn't collected the other seven. That means that I would have to get to Pewter City and the fastest way is through Viridian Forest.
Viridian Forest was known for its bug and bird Pokémon and being a natural maze. The trees were too close together to go between making paths that you had to follow. However, they often split into different directions and you could easily get lost in there. Now, from word of mouth, I heard that it's not really all that hard to get lost in, though I wouldn't trust anyone's word about it.
When I got into Viridian Forest, all the rumors were true. It indeed was twisted and hard to follow. Miko was still walking beside me. She had recovered fully from her wounds and she was looking better than before. So I looked at my Pokedex to see if she had any stat changes.
Of course, her level had increased a few times. She was before level seven, but now she is level ten.

It seemed like forever, but it really was only ten minutes, and we had already gotten lost. No Pokémon were seen and it felt like someone had been following us. Just then, I heard a rustling in the bushes ahead. Miko and I hid behind a large rock and saw a man come out of the bushes. It was hard to see what he was doing because of the darkness. It looked like he was carrying one of those bags on a stick that homeless people carried in cartoons, except the bag was moving.
The man moved towards us and I could finally make out what the object he was carrying was. It was a net, with a Metapod inside. The man kept getting closer and I could see what he was wearing. Black coat, Black pants, Black Hat, White Belt, and White Gloves. The man lied the Metapod on the ground and took out a needle. I didn't know what he was going to do and I didn't want him to hurt the Metapod. I also didn't want him to hurt me, so I stayed put.
The man stuck the needle into the Metapod's tough exterior. A red liquid was injected. After a moment of nothing, the Metapod began to glow, and that lit up the man and I could see who he was. He had dark rings around his eyes making him look menacing and on his coat was something I was not expecting. A big red R.
I hid myself better behind the rock knowing that this guy was either an old member of Team Rocket or some enthusiast. The Metapod stopped glowing, except it wasn't a Metapod this time, it was a Caterpie. The Rocket Member shook his head and called out, "It didn't work again. This time it had the complete opposite effect."
Three more men came out from the darkness all looking almost exactly the same as the first and they were followed by one more man. He wore the same outfit, except with no hat and he had shoulder length red hair. "I see." Said the red haired man. "We have to get my father's serum working correctly..."
One of the Rocket Members looked around and then said, "Silv- I mean Commander! We should go to Cinnabar Island; perhaps some of his old documents would still be in the mansion there."
"Good idea!" The commander exclaimed. "We will go first thing tomorrow morning. For now, we will head back to Viridian City." All five of the Rocket Members walked by the rock me and Miko were hiding behind. They didn't notice us, even with Miko's tail fire making a small glowing light.
Oak had told me that all the trainers that were somehow connected to him got in trouble with Pokémon gangs. Though they didn't notice me, I knew this wouldn't be the only time I would see them.
Suddenly I heard someone making a noise. "Psst... Kado." I looked towards the sound but couldn't see who was making it. "It's me, Stan. Get over here." A hand came out of one of the bushes and pulled me in. "Did you see those people?"
"Yes." I replied.
"Team Rocket Members. I don't know who the red haired guy was though."
"Obviously one of the commanders."
Stan peeked outside of the bush then came back in and gave me an angry stare. "Where's my bike?"
I thought for a moment. "Shit! I left it locked up outside of the poke center."
Stan slapped his head and then gave me an even angrier look. "How could you forget a bike?" He then let his face relax, looked away then looked back. "Never mind, it's too dangerous to go back. We got to go to Pewter City and warn the police."
"How?" I asked. "I'm lost here."
"I know the way."
Me and Stan left the bush and Miko followed us. Sure enough the exit was just down the path. It was a small building with a sign beside it that read "To Pewter City"
"Aw! C'mon! That's weak!"
"SHHH!" Stan said to me. "Those Rocket fools might still be close enough to hear us."
We both went inside the building and saw Pewter City through a window on the other side. I knew that if I told the police anything about those Rocket guys, I would end up somehow getting involved, so I planned to ditch Stan and go directly to the gym.
