War Breaks Out
CHANSON DU SOLITARE
XV.
As the vessel landed, Takeru and Listol jumped off, SCARs in hand. As well, Takeru swapped his M9 for a G18 machine pistol.
"I will be waiting for a signal to get you out of here!" Johannes yelled.
"Good. Find a safe place, then. And hurry!"
"Yes, my Lord."
Takeru surveyed the city. He was eager to join the fight. Suddenly, a Harberian soldier carrying an AK-47 ran up to him.
"King Takeru?" he yelled. "Thank God! We need help, sir. My squad's pinned down by the museum. These Koreans can fight!"
"Figures," Takeru muttered. "Who are you, anyway?"
"PFC Jones," the man replied.
OK. You know me, right...oh, this is Capt. Listol."
"Two war heroes? We've got this, then!"
"Damn straight!" Listol yelled.
"Let's help your squad, Jones," Takeru said. "Take point."
"Yes, sir!"
They progressed a few dozen meters, and then saw three Nyonians around the corner.
"Tangos at nine o' clock," Listol said.
"Then let's fix that," Takeru whispered.
The king ran up and fired lightning at them. Jones was amazed.
"D-d-damn!" he yelled.
"You get used to it," Takeru said. "C'mon, we're Oscar mike!"
The men ran towards the museum, gunning down any Nyonians or Koreans they saw there. Eventually, they saw the pinned soldiers firing desperately at the enemy.
"Jones!" a soldier yelled, "You brought King Takeru and Captain Listol?! Thank God!"
"Don't worry, Lieutenant," Takeru yelled, identifying the soldier by the symbol on his uniform, "just keep firing!"
"I'm not scared, sir, but OK!" the man replied.
Takeru, Jones, and Listol managed, with the assistance of the squad and the nearby Japanese soldiers, to clear the front of the museum. The squad then ran up to them.
"Lon'ien Takeru," the Lieutenant said, saluting.
"No need," Takeru laughed. "Thank you, though. Now, what's the situation?"
"Capt. Louis was killed," the officer reported, "and so I took command. We need to eliminate a Nyonian colonel at the Gym. I assume you're up for the job?"
"Of course. Just keep some Koreans alive. They're our guarantee that Pewter won't be the second Lilycove; although I've never known Nyonians to sacrifice efficiency for their allies' lives."
"As well," a private said, "there are some Rukario in the area; about three or so. They're freaking ice-cold killers. Iâ""
Suddenly, a bolt of aura energy struck the soldier in the back, killing him. The others then were extremely wary, preparing to attack, their weapons raised.
"Surrender," Jones said, shaking, "or we'll shoot! I swear to God, we'll shoot!"
There was a streak of blue energy, but no deaths, as if something were moving.
"Stay frosty," the Lieutenant said. "We're Harberians."
FLASH!
And he fell dead.
"That's it! Light 'em up!" Takeru yelled.
The remaining men formed a circle and relentlessly began to fire. A Lucario appeared out of nowhere, and, ridden with bullet holes, fell over, dead.
"OK," Takeru said, "we're fine. Stay cool; we're still Oscar mike."
The remaining men headed towards the Gym, and shot all enemies dead that they found. No Rukario had crossed their path there.
"OK," Listol said, "I swear there's a Rukario here."
Two Rukario appeared suddenly. Without warning, they attacked, killing the rest of Jones' squad. Takeru took out his G18 and fired. The bullets sprayed out relentlessly, killing them.
"There," Takeru said. "Three of us, one officer."
A human-like figure then appeared.
"You forget that number mean nothing, Takeru."
Takeru pointed the G18 at the officer.
"Hands up, Colonel," he said.
Fifty or so Japanese soldiers then appeared to assist Takeru, Listol and Jones.
The Colonel smirked.
"Very well," he said. "I suppose that I've no choice."
He then took out a remote, and pressed a single button. Suddenly, the Gym, Museum, and other buildings exploded. Most of the Japanese soldiers helping capture the officer died in the blast.
"Kill him!" Takeru yelled.
The raging bullets struck the unknown officer, killing him.
Takeru picked up the radio.
"Johannes, we're done here."
Crystal's loneliness knew no bounds when Takeru was away. She hadn't known love before Takeru, but now she had to endure the pain of him going into battle. She knew he was a master fighter, but the fear of hearing news of his death was constant. Her only solace was in the comfort of Nachtkrieger, who Takeru had (innocently enough) assigned to protect her. Although his job was to defend her, the two became close friends. It turned out Nachtkrieger had the same upbringing as Crystalâ"as an outcast of a colony. He told her that a now-deceased Major who was close to Takeru saved him and managed to get him into the military, having observed his fighting abilities.
Of course, another fear eventually presented itself; she feared she would fall in love with her bodyguard. The thought would surface often, but she would always rid herself of it. Sadly, it always would re-surface.
Meanwhile, Santiago's knowledge of the re-capture of Pewter enraged him. His realization that the war had spread to Earth, though, pleased him. Malakar, however, learned of the Rukarios' deaths, and the chieftain was furious. He demanded that Santiago and Viktor meet with him ASAP.
"Well," Malakar said, "your men were incompetent enough to fight them. Three of our greatest soldiers are dead now, thanks to your amateur soldiers."
"We need to kill Takeru," Santiago said. "If you get Crystal, it'll be easier."
"I feel need to warn you; we feel you aren't able to fight well enough. We want our men to actually survive. As well," the chieftain continued, "you neglected to mention that your enemy is an heir of the Tajirites."
"To whom is it a matter of importance?"
"I," Malakar said. "It is lawful to mate with a Tajirite, you see. He is technically a Tajirite by blood."
"Then our alliance exists no more?"
"Correct, Santiago."
"Very well, Malakar."
Santiago then pulled out his .44 magnum, pointed it at Malakar, and fired.
"Traitor," he muttered. "Viktor, let's go."
Meanwhile, Takeru and Listol were flying to Viridian. The war would be taken back homeâ"seeing Pewter was a shock. Nachtkrieger would still be Crystal's bodyguard, but in home territory...the advantage was a win-win situation. Meanwhile, Corey was older, and began showing an interest in battle. He feared his son's futureâ"as a soldier? A warrior king, like all others? Whatever it was, it would be tough to endure. The future kills, the past burns. Sadly, Takeru would realize this.
Suddenly, Takeru's comlink went off.
"This is General Ronald Smith of the US Army, contacting Yoshi Takeru of the Harberian Army, do you copy?"
"Gen. Smith, this is Yoshi Takeru, I read you loud and clear, over."
"Takeru, we've got 1,000 Nyonians besieging Los Angeles, and are requesting you send any available Harberian soldiers to our aid, over."
"All units on the planet are currently engaging Nyonian targets throughout Asia; however, I'm available for battle. Send me your co-ordinates and I will be there, over."
"Well, you'll be approaching at the angle that the enemy is approaching from. Try to get around them, and pray they don't gun you down."
Johannes' shuttle landed safely at the Marine Corps outpost, and Takeru and Listol disembarked. This time, the mission was to kill the Nyonian, Viktor. He was normally Santiago's bodyguard, but was an elite soldier at that. Thus, he led the LA Siege.
"Gen. Smith," Takeru said, seeing the general as he walked through the post, "I've got some Intel on the Nyonian officer leading the attack. He carries an AK-47 assault rifle and a Makarov PM. He's rather chummy with Santiago...so, I'll admit that's why I chose to help you out here. I want that man dead as well."
"Viktor's an old enemy of mine," Listol said. "Back at Point Firebird, he was the only one of them to escape."
"Anyway," Smith said. "There's another problem. They're using Mobile Artillery to fire incendiaries all over the place. They've set fire to twenty-five percent of the city already. We need you guys to head to Alcatraz, where they're keeping all the main stuff. SAM sites, artillery, terminals...and Viktor. We need you guys to plant an EMP charge on the island. That'll render most, if not all of their defenses useless. You'll still have guns, though. We'll then unload hell on them from the air."
"Too easy," Takeru said. "They'll figure something out to counter it. Believe me, EMP pulses are old-school."
"This one's a new type of charge," Smith replied. "It has ionic particles made to cause the devices affected to explode."
"You sure our guns aren't going down?" Listol asked.
"Yeah," Smith said.
The soldiers snuck past the Nyonians, and managed to swim onto Alcatraz. There, Takeru planted the EMP. It did not explode as one would think a bomb would, but it emitted a large, screeching noise. The SAM sites, tanks, other armored vehicles, and all other electronic devices exploded. Viktor then looked at them, and began firing, but the US had deployed attack choppers to rescue them. They returned to the outpost, and there, Johannes picked them up and took them to Viridian.
Crystal, however, had a secret that a quick battle in LA would soon give Takeru a return in which the timing was hellish.
