Fate's Left Curve by iespeon

Story Notes:

This came to me as an idea when I was browsing DeviantArt and found that some of the TF's were... less than impressive, to be frank. So, I did this. It was fun! =D

Fate's Curve

Fate's Gift

"Hnn!" I grunted, as I sat up and stretched. After a quick, but big, yawn, I stood and looked out the window of my bedroom, into the sunrise. "Wow... I wonder how hot it is outside. I guess I'll be staying inside today! No, wait... ah, crap. We're going to the beach today... better pack plenty of sunscreen, I guess... damn. I wanted to log onto Nsider2."

So, after some quick packing, and making sure that there was enough sun screen for the trip, my mom and I went to our church to meet with the youth group; the entire group was going to the beach! I know that at first I didn't want to go, but I've changed my mind. With these guys, I definitely want to go! Besides, I had my DS with me, so it wasn't going to be so bad... and to be honest, it wasn't. By the time we'd gotten to the beach, my friend and I had talked as I'd played my DS, so the time had gone by pretty fast. Now that we were actually on the beach, I decided to put on my swim trunks and take a dip – after watching my friends do so first.

"Come on, Tom!" My friend, Ben, exclaimed, waving me in. "It's fun!"

"Alright!" I exclaimed excitedly, jumping in quickly. I shortly found that I had, somehow, made a mistake. God knows how. "Whoa!"

As I jumped in, I landed on a particularly slippery rock or something, slipped, and painfully bashed my head on it. In an instant, pain flashed through my skull, and for a moment, I could've sworn someone changed the color channels on me. Then – everything was black...

Wake.

Unn... huh...?

Wake. Your friends worry for you.

Wha – who are you?

Someone you will meet very soon.

Why doesn't anybody ever give straight answers – including me?

Once you have recovered, we will meet again. I assure you of that. I cannot disclose my identity to you at this time, but I can assure you that your friends worry for you; now wake!

The moment that strange voice had commanded for my consciousness to return to me, it did; I found myself staring into the big blue yonder far above me, with my back on a towel or something. My head hurt like hell, but that was a good thing; proved that I was awake and alive. It felt like I had slammed my head into a brick wall or something. Not a very pleasant feeling, what with the huge-ass headache that I felt directly behind my eyes and near my temples. At first, I just lay there, blinking at the sky, and wondering what I should do. Around me, my friends were still playing the ocean, albeit a bit more carefully because of my little slip. The parents in the youth group were keeping a close watch over me, especially my mother. I decided that it was best not to fake being unconscious any longer, and gently forced myself to sit up.

"Are you alright?" My mom, whom was a nurse, asked quickly. "You had quite a fall there."

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said, wincing at how much it hurt to talk. "Although my head hurts - a LOT."

"I'm not surprised, with how big of a rock you hit. Well, just relax for a while, before you do anything else, okay?"

"...Okay."

I didn't mind doing that. My head still hurt like hell. Despite the fact that it proved that I was alive and well, it didn't feel all that nice; but, despite the GIANT headache that was there, I frowned slightly, and returned my attention to that... voice, I guess... that I'd heard. It had been telepathic, that much I knew; problem was, I didn't know who it belonged to. All I could tell was that it belonged to a being of power and respect... and female. Something just told me that the owner of the voice was female. After a while of just sitting around and relaxing, I stood up, and found that my headache had faded away. I carefully walked over to the water, where I just stood at the edge, and let the cool water splash on my feet. Instantly, the voice from before came to me, speaking directly into my mind. As it did so, I jumped a little, then calmed down, forcing myself to not show that anything was happening.

So, you have woken, It said, suddenly clicking in my mind that the voice belonged to a female.

Err... yeah, I responded, assuming that I could do so with a mental conversation.

Good, It said, confirming my suspicions that it was female. I would like to talk to you.

Huh? What for?

You have woken, and I have something that I... need to talk to you about.

...Alright, what is it?

My apologies, but... I cannot talk about it right now,
The voice said, with it sounding as strong as before... but the edges of the voice seemed to show embarrassment.

Why not? You seemed to interested in talking about it...

Yes, I know, but I cannot talk to you about it in this manner. We must meet in person.

What? Why? I don't understand...

Do not worry. You will in a short time. Until then... take this gift.

Gift? How am I supposed to take it when... eh?
I paused, and looked into my soaked pocket of my swim trunks. Inside was a very familiar silver wing-like pendant... one I recognized almost instantly. No... is this...?

"Thomas! The hot dogs are ready!" Ben called to me from our area near the sand dunes.

"Okay!" I called to him, quickly coming over for the food. Once there, I was quick to grab one, put it in the appropiate bun, and cover it in nothing but ketchup. "Hurray for ketchup!"

With that, I sat down on the tarp that was covering the sand – even though, somehow, sand still got on it – and ate my delicious morsel of meat. Along with it, I sipped a cup of soda. In my case, it was Pepsi. There was also Mountain Dew available, but I didn't like the taste of it; I preferred the one I had in my hand. Sooner than I liked, though, the Pepsi was gone, so I had to resort to the other soda. I didn't like the taste as much as I liked the taste of Pepsi, but I liked it enough to drink it.

Shortly after having lunch, the people in the youth group decided to wander about the nearby town. My friend, Ben, and I decided to stick together as a part of the group's rule of the buddy system. Everyone had to stick with at least one other person the entire time. While we were wandering around the arcade, there was another mild accident involving me – the kind of incident that has to do with bumping into someone and, while I stumble back, they get knocked onto their butt. Ben was on the other side of the arcade, playing some obscure game that I've never heard of.

"Sorry!" I said, looking down to see that I'd bumped into a girl that looked to be about my age. I offered my hand to help her up.

"That's okay," She said, taking my offer, and standing up quickly with my help. She took a moment to wipe the dust off her clothes. "Well... I've gotta go, so see ya."

"Alright, see ya," I said, waving quickly as I went over to another arcade game.

It was then that, by putting my hand in my pocket, I finally realized how that silver wing I'd gotten earlier had reacted to the girl. It had gone from kinda cold to fairly warm, and it was glowing a bit as well. For a moment, I was clueless as to why it was reacting in such a strange way; she was just a girl, wasn't she? At last, it clicked.

No... that means...! I just stood there for a few moments, staring at the wing, as it calmed down. After a moment of staring at its calmed form, I glanced around for Ben. It was time to leave. This is getting weird. It's time for us to leave, anyway.

"Ready to go?" Ben asked me, as soon as he was done with playing his game.

"Yup," I said, nodding.

Soon afterwards, the people in the group had met up again, and decided that it was time to head home. After a long, and kinda boring two-hour drive, we finally made it back. Only a few minutes passed before my mom and I were at our house, and then another few were gone and so was my mother. She was at a barn where she rented a space for the horse she'd bought a few months ago. In case you didn't know, his name was Bandit. While I was surfing the web – more specifically, Nsider2 – I suddenly felt the wing in my pocket vibrate, kind of like a cell phone does. It also began to glow quite a bit. I raised an eyebrow, closed my laptop and put it on the couch, and pulled out the little thing. The very moment it was in my hand, something in my mind told me to go outside onto my front lawn – so I did. The very moment I felt the blades of grass crunch under my shoe sole, I looked up from the glowing silver wing, and found a small, white dot in the sky. Thank the gods that nobody else was around at the moment; at least, nobody paying attention.

Hello, Said a voice in my head, the same one that I'd heard on the beach. As I heard it, the wing in my hand resonated quietly in my mind as well, as if it were happy to be near its owner or something.

Er... hello, I replied, as I looked at the wing. Suddenly, it paused in its glow, before I felt a sting in my hand, but I ignored it as I looked up at the sky again – until a sharp pain exploded from my right-hand palm. "Ow!"

When I looked, I felt my eyes nearly pop out of my skull; the wing had merged with my skin. In other words, it was now a part of me. The moment it finished melting into me, the pain ended – thankfully – and I could now hear the telepathic voice even clearer now. It was practically in HD.

It seems that I have chosen correctly, The voice said.

Chosen? For what? I asked, confused, as I furrowed my brow. And I still don't know who you are...

I am Lugia,
The voice said.

Even though I had suspected this, I couldn't hold back my surprise and shock. The Lugia simply giggled quietly – although she let it go a few moments later.

You look rather silly the way you hold your mouth open like that, She pointed out. With a blush of embarrassment, I forced my jaw shut. Now then... please move out of the way. I am coming to land.

What?! But won't people notice you?!
I exclaimed, broken out of my stupor with those words.

No; they are not paying attention, and they cannot hear what is quiet. Now, please, move out of the way. I do not want to hurt you.

...Fine.

Despite my warnings, I moved out of the way, and watched in silent awe as this magnificent creature landed on my front lawn, quietly folding her beautiful wings away. After a few moments, she gently held her face close to mine, and I saw how amazingly beautiful her eyes were; mind you, I think I saw her as beautiful because she was one of my favorite Pokemon, but not for any other reason. Then, with a bit of a smirk, she drew her head away from me, and I started to breathe again, having held my breath without even thinking of doing so.

Come, get on my back, Lugia said, lowering one wing toward me, so that I could climb up onto her back with ease.

What? Are you taking me somewhere? I asked, suddenly reluctant to leave; sure, I would have absolutely LOVED to go with her, but my mom would be home any second now!

Of course. Do not worry, you will be back within the hour.

Well... one moment,
I said. I ran inside my house, grabbed my LG cell phone, and with it in my pocket, and a sweat shirt on, I quickly got onto the back of one of my favorite legendary Pokemon of all time. Within moments, I had my arms held tightly around her neck as we flew through the air, but much sooner than I'd have liked, I could feel that we were descending. Moments later, her feet touched soft grass in the public park near my house. It was currently deserted. As I slipped off her back, I asked naught but one question. Why did you bring me here?

So that I may speak with you in private, Lugia said, lying down on the grass, and looking up at the full moon with a gentle smile. I am certain that you have many questions.

Definitely, I said, and after a moment, I asked my first question. Why did you speak to me on the beach?

Simple. When you hit your head on the rock, I helped to heal the wound that was caused. Thus, I helped in waking you up.

Alright... then, why did you give me the silver wing?

It... was a test. I apologize, but I cannot explain any further than that.

...That's fine. One last question... why did the wing decide to suddenly become a part of me?

I'm afraid... that I cannot tell you the answer to that question either. However, you will soon find out... within the next few hours, in fact. Now then, would you like to return to your home? I am certain that your mother will return there soon.

Er... alright,
I said, getting onto her back quickly, a bit disappointed at how fast the talk had gone. That went by really fast, though...

Do not worry... you will see me again soon, and in a very different way...

Huh? What do you mean?
I asked, surprised and a little worried – not to mention nervous – about what she'd said. Yet, no matter how many times I asked, she refused to elaborate.

Soon enough, however, I was in bed, fast asleep. My mind wandered aimlessly as I slept, silently recalling all that had happened today; the bashing of my head on a rock, the silver wing, bumping into that strange girl, meeting Lugia herself, talking to said Pokemon, and, strangest of all, having the silver wing become a part of me... of course, said object was now sending strange messages to my brain. It took a couple of minutes, but the neurological signal coming from it forced me to wake up, right as pain erupted along my arm. As quickly as I could, I turned on a nearby light, and felt my eyes widen as I gasped. The hand that had absorbed that wing had begun to flatten into one similar to Lugia's wings!

"Oh my God..." I whispered. At last, it dawned on me. "This is what she meant when she said that the wing had chosen me! I... I need to write a note for my mom or something!"

Then, as quickly as I could, I grabbed a small pad of paper and a pen, and with my left hand – with which I could barely write. Once I realized how poorly my writing was, I ditched that, and opened up my computer instead. Opening up a new document, I wrote in size 40 letters the following message:

I'm sorry, Mom, but I have to go.
I will contact you soon to explain.
Just remember that...
I'll always love and remember you.

With that typed up, I bit my lip with tears in my eyes, as I quickly slipped on my shoes and, as quietly as possible, slipped outside. At this point, my entire right arm looked like a smaller version of Lugia's wing. However... it was only moments later, as I reached the end of the driveway, that I fell to my knees.

"Ugh..." I groaned, gritting my teeth with the pain. Even though I wanted to close my eyes, I couldn't – it was next to impossible to take my eyes off such a spectacle as me changing into a Lugia.

As I watched, my left arm quickly caught up to match with my right arm, thus giving me two wings. The white flesh that was there didn't waste any time in covering the rest of my body – well, most of it. My stomach was colored blue instead. It was at that moment that I heard the quiet flapping of wings, and looked up in time to see the real Lugia land in front of me. She quietly picked me up by my clothes, and soon enough, we landed in the park once more, where she let go of me and gave me some space. At this time, my shoes tore themselves apart. My feet were growing, as the two middle toes, and the two smallest merged to make it so that I had a total of three toes per foot.

It didn't take long for my pajama pants to also be torn to shreds; the girth that was Lugia's midsection was what I was currently gaining, as well as the girth of the legs. The size of the belly forced my pajama shirt to soon have the same fate as my pants. Within a mere 10 minutes, my arms had become wings, my skin was pure white, and my entire lower half was exactly like the real deal. At this point, my body simply grew for a bit, so that I was as big as the Lugia standing next to me. Moments later, pain shot up and down my spine as it lengthened itself... and very quickly created quite a long tail, with two blue spikes coming out of the sides on the end.

The back of my head stretched out into a sharp point, as did the front of my face, although the latter did not stretch out nearly as far. It forced my eyes apart a bit more than they had been, and as soon as my head was shaped like Lugia's, the flesh around my eyes bulged a smidgen, and stretched out towards the point that was the back of my head. Thus, my entire head looked like Lugia's. As all this had happened, my neck had lengthened considerably.

It was then that I realized that there was one final step, and it was the least painful, to be honest. The part of my head changing shape hurt the most, and during those excruciating moments, I had almost wanted to die from the pain. Now, there was a bit of a tingling sensation on my back as the little blue things appeared in my back, forming two neat lines going down from my shoulders to the area near my tail. At last... at long last, the transformation was over. My clothes – which consisted of my shoes and pajamas – were left in nothing but shreds around me. I looked over myself quietly and slowly, taking it all in as I felt hot tears well up in my eyes.

"Why..." I asked myself quietly, as soon as I realized that I was most certainly NOT dreaming. When I heard my voice, I found that it, too, had changed. It was a bit deeper, and, well... a bit more majestic, I guess would be the right word. "Why did this happen?"

"I chose you," Lugia said, catching my attention enough for me to look her in the eyes. There, on her face, I saw a solemn look as she glanced me over and gave a slight nod of approval. Then, she gave a smooth smile.

"What do you mean?" I asked, confused, as silent tears rolled down my cheeks. When I noticed that my hands... er, wings, were still held in front of my face awkwardly, I folded them away, where they were much more comfortable.

"That silver wing I gave you... it is what caused this," Lugia said. "Before I continue, I must ask... what is your name?"

"...Thomas," I answered softly, looking down and at my transformed feet, still confused and unsure if I should be ecstatic about escaping the human life I hated, or if I should be angry about this abrupt change that didn't have my approval. I didn't need to ask about why we could speak aloud and understand each other; it was the way Pokemon speech worked, after all.

"Well, Thomas," Lugia said, gently coming over to me and placing a wing on my shoulder in order to comfort me as she gave me a kind smile. At this, I looked up and felt the tears in my eyes melt away almost immediantly from the way she was treating me. "I'm sorry for doing to this you, but... I had to."

"Why?"

"It is a part of my... genetic code, I guess you could say. It is written in my blood that after so many years, I was to search the world for a specific human, to... well..."

"...You're kidding," I said incredulously. It couldn't be... could it? I mean, why would the incredibly powerful Lugia, of all Pokemon, feel that way for me?

"No, I am not," She said softly. "The fact that you have transformed is proof. Should you have not been the right one, then the silver wing would have vanished from your hand an hour after you touched it and came in contact with me."

"Wait... then that girl in the arcade..."

"Yes, that was me. All legendary Pokemon have a human disguise, so that we can go into human cities undisturbed. Now do you understand?"

"...Yeah, but that doesn't make it any easier to accept, you know?"

"I know. I put a message in your mother's mind for when she wakes up and reads your message. Once she sees it, she will know to come to the beach where I first talked to you. There you will be able to talk to her personally."

"Alright, well... since I'm like this, where will I live?" I asked, although I had an idea of what she'd say in response to that. "And what should I call you? I don't want to keep calling you Lugia, seeing as we both are that very same Pokemon."

"First and foremost, you may call me Lucia," She said. Then, to answer the other question, her eyes quickly gained a mischievous sparkle. "Second, you will be living with me, of course!"

"I thought so," I said, rolling my eyes with a soft smile to the second part of her statement. "Alright, but how am I supposed to get to the beach with you? I know that you can fly, but I don't know how..."

"Yes, you do. The wing that imbedded into you and turned you into this form gave you the innate ability to fly."

With that, she quickly and quietly took off into the dark night sky by raising her large wings, and bringing them down with force to lift off. Soon after, I looked through my mind on how to do the same, and to my surprise, I soon found myself flying near Lucia. Indeed, the silver wing that had become a part of me had given me the ability to fly without having to spend hours learning and practicing. Within a few minutes, we had landed at the beach, where Lucia pointed out to me that the wing also imbedded in me the skills for swimming unhindered. Since I was now a Lugia, I didn't need to surface in order to breathe any more; I could breathe underwater just like a fish. I decided then and there that, in the morning, when my mother arrived, I would tell her everything. However, right now, something else was on Lucia's mind, and it showed when she lead me to a cave that, once I was inside it, she gently put her wings around me, causing a blush to appear on my cheeks when I realized what she had in mind. It showed on her face with the blush that was on her cheeks. So, as she gently drew me close and kissed me, I finally let my human life go totally and completely...
